Hi folks.
A lotta people damage it´s Motorola TN20 and TN30 GPS by trying to put maps and software inside of it.
I am trying to make these unit to reborn.
I tried to reload firmware but at the process looks like it need to have it´s flash fully formatted and empty because the first part (load WinCE) seems to work, but the second on (load Application) fails.
Can someone give me a tip?

I want to fix this myself -- I'm a Linux-savvy Comp Sci grad student -- but I'm having trouble figuring out this phone. Wireless connects fine at home (WPA) but won't connect at school (open network.) In the process of trying to figure this out for myself, I've discovered I'm pretty clueless about this phone.
Phone is unlocked and rooted, I'm in "adb shell" as root, and I can't find any log files. In the gui I can find my university wireless and try to connect. It starts connecting, then says disconnected, and I get no indication of what the problem was.
Where are the log files? Or are there any, even in a ramdisk? I couldn't find anything resembling a syslogd to start if I really want the device to start filling up valuable memory with log file spam, briefly so I can identify the problem. Or is there a way to attempt to connect to wifi via command line, in a way that will spit out error messages instead of failing silently?
I know you guys are super helpful and you can probably guide me through a solution, but I really want to figure this out for myself. Unless it's a known problem with a quick-to-explain solution.
Thanks in advance for all your help.
Edit: ooh ooh I forgot to ask . . . before I start digging into making a mountable 1 or 2 GB loopback-mountable e2fs filesystem on my SD card and putting proper Linux tools on there (full-sized system tools, none of this busybox crap -- plus system libraries and GCC) . . . has anyone already started working on that? (Yes I'm going to be one of these insane folks who wants to compile software on his cell phone. Specifically, SWI-Prolog would be handy and practical for me right now.)
Ok so I picked up my Droid X about a month ago and haven't been able to put this thing down, I never thought about rooting it because it did everything I needed/wanted it to do, then one day I log into my car forum and all the OT guys are posting cool print screen's of their phones. I was intrigued, so I rooted my phone and have been trying to figure out a few things but I'm not really up on the terminology and/or logic behind doing certain things. I would greatly appreciate any help in regards to explaining the following:
1) Rooting - Takes off restrictions on the phone so that developer apps can be installed... Is there more to this or is that pretty much it?
2) Flashing - I see this term often but I'm not sure what it is exactly, I tried installing a theme once and the directions said to flash something somewhere and looked at it the same way my dog looks at me while I'm working out at home.. lol
3) ROM - !?
4) apk's - What are they, what do they do, and how do you install them!?
5) Installing themes - I'm thinking has to do with all of the above...
6) Locating and moving downloaded content...
7) How do all of these things tie together? I'm completely clueless as to what does what on the phone and would like to become as knowledgeable as I was when the iPhone first came out and I figured out how to jailbreak/unlock it...
As a reward for your time and effort I leave you Final Fantasy VII fan's with a cool wallpaper I found at work today.. Thanks for any/all input and again, your time is most appreciated!!

First off- that is a lot to bite off as an opener. lol. I have to get in a minute- plus I am a newb as well but here a couple of things...
1) You sound pretty on track. Root gives you access to more options with your phone. It also voids your warranty.
2) Flashing. A term used loosely. Normally it is used in conjunction with "flashing a rom". It simply means to install something (basically).
3) Rom. It is the image (not in the photo-graphical sense) that is embedded/burned on your phones hard drive with all the information of your operating system. For instance: you are on the stock 2.2 ota "rom". But you could "flash" the new "AOSP rom" that was just released. That means you would be removing the factory image that came on your phone and replacing it with a modified image. Theme's and .apk's -those are not "burned" into the phone. If you do a factory reset- those will be wiped. The rom image stays put. If you flash from 2.2 ota to AOSP and then did a factory reset- you would not return to the original state your phone came from Motorola bc that image is completely removed and replaced by the new image you flash. Instead you would return to a clean AOSP.
4) .apk's - .apk is simply the name of the file extension used for android applications. I came from Windows Mobile and they were called .cabs. So any app can be referred to as an .apk. You can download an apk from XDA, place it on your sdcard, tap the file, and i think you will be prompted with "do you want to install" (some where along those lines). There is a setting in the "Settings" that allows you to install 3rd party (non-market) .apk's.
5)Installing themes. This refers to modifying the images (and this time I do mean in the graphic sense) of certain .apk's and other whatchamajiggies. You can install a simple theme that just changes your lockscreen, or you can install a huge theme that changes almost every part of every image so the entire phone looks similar. Here is the tricky part about using themes- your phone has to be deodexed.
deodexed. When you get your phone all of the system files come with a few different parts to them. One of those parts is an odexed file. Apparently the theme building types do not like working with these files so they run this process called de-odexing in which all of the system files are somehow manipulated in a way where they no longer need their odex file. So you end up "de-odexed". There is a program called "xultimate 2.2" that enables regular folk like you and me to deodex our phones. I tried running it yesterday and it errored out on me. So I used another method that worked fine. There are some threads on here about deodexing- if you want themes you will have to do it.
6) locating and moving downloaded content. When you have root you can get Root Explorer from the market. I am sure there are other good file exploreres- but I can't speak to them- I use Root Explorer. As far as locating downloaded content- whenever I download something from my phone, it always (normally) goes to /sdcard/downloads. If it is not there, I guess you just do a search for it. If you want to move it- long press the item, copy, move.
And you will need to google "ADB" (android device bridge). Many of these activities will require the use of ADB. You plug in your phone through USB (make sure phone settings are set to "USB debugging") and... well there is just way to much on this one. Google this one and you will find a lot of stuff- or search it here on XDA
have a great weekend. got to go.
Hello,
I'm new to the forums and I'd like to introduce myself. I am a Web Developer, 19 years old and I'm from Greece. Right now I own a Sony Ericsson Xperia x10 mini and I rooted it. I had this program installed from Android Marketplace that allows you to delete applications.
So guess what... I deleted several applications for testing purposes and I knew that if I uninstall Android System it would break everything.
I did that epic "mistake" for testing purposes (don't try this).
The thing is how do I fix this? I have spent some time reading through the forums here and installed Flashtool and downloaded the ftf file (X10a_v2.1.update-1_2.1.A.0.435_Generic.ftf) in C:\Flashtool\firmwares directory.
What I have to deal with right now:
- My mobile phone switched off when deleted Android System so I decided to boot it to see if any error messages comes up.
- Now my phone won't power off due to the lack of Android System. So I have to use a torx screwdriver to remove the screws and take off the battery (because Flashtool requires the phone to be switched off) but unfortunately the torx I have is one size bigger than the required one for xperia's screws.
- I guess I have to wait until the battery is dead or I should just get a proper torx screwdriver.
The thing is that I have another Xperia x10 mini as well (works for now - didn't try any uninstall) and connected it to FlashTool and followed the instructions to flash it but I keep getting this error message:
ERROR - ERR_SEVERITY="MAJOR";ERR_CLASS="SECURITY_CLASS";ERR_DYNAMIC="SIN header verification failed"
I tried to figure out what's causing this and I end up with the "locked bootloader solution". I tried the instructions read here: unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions but when I typed *#*#7378423#*#* no service menu was available...
That happened to the working xperia phone. How would I possible do that on a broken xperia?
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!
We're all learning through our mistakes after all.
Warmest Regards,
George Girtsou
first of all this is a "google translate" cant spell english. sorry
problems (large) rooting, backup.
I think is crazy. began a few days ago would put a backup made of CWM. made it 10-20 times before, but now the fun starts all goes as normal until the "sys" folder should be written as saying "telefonhel ** tet" is not possible to write "sys" folder .... then freezes the whole phone. going to start but stops at the first botbilden. must then put the phone in download mode, the drive into new ics via odin. Unless otherwise works to move up. do I add something else I'll just when to choose the Language for which locks up the phone. Does anyone know what happened, there may have been something wrong with your memory card or what??????
(when I've added new ics and rooted it, put in tx new rocketrom so the phone works as normal. tried to make a backup of CMW is Axa excellent. but cure me and trying to put it back so obvious the same thing happens.)
hope I have made myself a little understood in all cases.
Hello all, i have tryied to update my headunit to android 8 using PhoenixSuit, the upgrade process had gone right, but the headunit locks on the android start screen. And i am struggling with it for some months now.
I am unable to make it be recognized by phoenix suit again, nor make it boot to an USB or Mem card made by phoenixcard.
the only thing i could get was it to start in recovery mode, so it read files like:
51eb6df0-cad7-11e8-bf31-afdca4ac0826
52c7b3fa-cad7-11e8-8188-57adc8d05072.0
52c7b3fa-cad7-11e8-8188-57adc8d05072.1
etc.. the name of the files vary according to the "uboot" file i load on the headunit.
I have tryied lots of files gotten from russian foruns, etc to no sucess, even the original files that i got from the maker fails to start the unit.
If i had to guess the problem that make me unable to restore the original android 7.1 i got from the makers, it would be the partitions number and size, i think phoenixsuit had recreated the partitions in the upgrade process and that recovery mode does not change it... so any android that is not the version 8 (that seens to not work on my unit) does not get even to the start screen.
If someone can give me some tips on how to solve this, i had alread tried anything i could understand from the russian foruns and from here to no sucess
Thanks in advance.
So nobody knows how i can get into a "command prompt" mod where i can remake the system partitions or how i can get the headunit to boot from a phoenixcard created USB?
