Hi all,
I just recently rooted and installed SetCPU to improve battery life. I created a profile for ScreenOff and set min to 100mhz and max to 400mhz. Last night while charging the phone overnight, when I woke up the phone was scorching hot, and the battery had no fully charged. SetCPU read Battery Temp at 120 F and Battery at 79%.
Has anyone else experienced this or know of a reason why it occurs? I've disabled the profile to see if it makes a difference.
Thanks in advance.

Don't use profiles on the Fascinate. Someone else can explain why, I've just been told it's bad.
Simple enough. Thanks for the quick reply.
After 2 days of not using profiles, my phone battery is still heating up to 110 F +. Anyone have any ideas?

My next guess is defective battery. I am NOT an expert, you may want to wait for a second opinion.

Hi,
I unplugged my phone this morning around 9 A.M, and sent about 50-100 texts today, and right now at 5:35 my phone is at 33%. The only thing that is running, is ADW.Launcher, and I've done LIGHT Twitter/Facebook checking throughout the day, maybe about 2-3 times each. I have Beautiful Widgets, but it's set to update every hour. I haven't talked on the phone at all, and my brightness is set to auto. My wifi is off, and I made sure I don't have GPS or anything on. What's killing my battery? My BB's battery life was 1000x better, I shouldn't have to baby this phone to have it make it through the day.
I'm running JT's Clean D101 rom, and that's it.
Edit - 32% now.
Get "OSMonitor" from the market (its free) and it will give you a real time display of all running processes and cpu % for each process. To make it easier to watch list open options in OSMonitor and sort by load and make sure order is checked as well. And watch the list for a couple of minutes to see the offender that is hogging the cpu. I've had problems with the xda app and I seem to be the only one that has it hammer the cpu after closing it so I always have to kill the xda app in task manager after using it or else it will ride the cpu between 8-20%.
My typical idle cpu usage is about 2-5% not including the cpu usage of OSMonitor itself.
good day.

Thats about normal time for a Smartphone. If you average that you used 66% of your battery in 8.5 hours, then its safe to say your battery is averaging 12 hours a day. Also, most of your battery will go to your display, and if you texting all morning, your display is going to be on all morning.
It also could be that your in an area with bad signal. Your phone is going to pump juice to try and keep signal.
As far as BlackBerry gos, its not nearly as smooth and capable. I could argue my flip phone from high school lasted four days without needing to be charged. Android is in an entirely different class than BlackBerry.
Is there a definitive process for conditioning or reconditioning the stock battery? I'm on my second fascinate(vzw replaced first one basically because of my frustration with the local vzw store) & I've noticed a big difference in battery life between the 2. First one was completely stock with adw launcher only & it got 16-20 hrs between charges. This one is rooted, some bloat removed, and I only get 8-10 hrs. Using os monitor to look for cpu hogs & so far no improvement. Put all my bloat file extensions back to stock in sys/app hoping to impact erratic charging cause it all started after root. Any ideas?

I'm no expert (standard disclaimer) but I don't think it's a matter of calibrating the battery as much as calibrating the software.
Power the phone down
Charge to 100%
Boot into CWM
Wipe Cache
Go into Advanced, and Wipe Battery Stats
Pull the battery, reinsert, and again charge until have 100%
Unplug, reboot, and run the phone in whatever your normal use is until you get as close as you can to a full discharge
Again power down and charge to full
As I understand it, this process allows the software to correctly read the true charge on the battery. if anyone sees any flaws with this, or anything incorrect in my information, please advise.
Are you using a Live wallpaper? I noticed an increase in my battery life after I turned it off, which is kind of stupid because it should only use CPU cycles when the screen is turned on.

Yep, just the stock n1 style that came with the phone. I liked it since I first saw it & have used it the whole time, even before battery issue.

This could be a big offender right here. Use the power control widget and keep it on the lowest brightness except for when you're in areas that make the screen too dim to make out (read: outside).
Thanks to Daswolven. Recalibrating the battery did the trick. The only thing I can link the issue to is having to charge from my laptop for 3 days last week due to a massive power outage in my area. Anyone else see this?

First off, tried search but its temp down for 30min or so, so please dont say use search.
Got my TF from a previous owner and noticed the battery life isnt all that great. Talked to a co-worker who has one and they get about 8 days before a charge needed. That is what 20min-60min use of browsing and email a day.
Mine is rooted and underclocked while in sleep and with browsing and email, I can get about 3-4 days before charge is needed. Without use, in 24 hours it dropped 13%. BT is disabled, wifi is on and connected and I have very little installed and only widget is the ASUS weather one.
Is this typical? Or did I get a unit with crappy batt life? Thanks in advance.
Mine is overclocked to 1.6ghz and I get 4+ hours of dungeon defenders and never noticed (or really checked for honestly) significant battery drain while inactive.
Edit: I think what I said was all useless info now that I reread your post. I haven't had mine long enough to confirm as I am always messing with it.

No, it kind of helped. Thank you. What settings do you have the cpu set at? And do you have a profile for screen off?
Not rooted, no over/underclocking. I get a lot of battery life--under heavy to moderate use it goes on for at least 20 - 26 hours. When inactive, battery basically doesn't ever drop; I put it aside when it was at 96%, went to bed, woke up to find it still at 96%.
try resetting your battery stats.
you might want to do more research on how: but basically
charge to 100%
go to clockworkmod, and reset your battery stats (advanced > reset battery stats)
let your device use up your battery completely. (or as far as it will let you)
if your battery stays at 5% for a long time, then your battery stats are screwy and reset should help you out.
once that's all done, just charged it up again, and see what happens
Ok I lied, it's not one hour backup, it's 50 min battery backup. I charged my phone to 100% 4163mv and played about 2 songs, battery dropped to 47 and then suddenly 0%. It all happened in less than 50 min. Just when I was thinking, it can't be more worse. I charged and battery was 99% :O. Another time, phone shut down at 40%, when charged moved up to 70% and number started increasing every 3 seconds. I did calibrated it many times so that's out of question. I bought this phone in May so I will be surprised if battery is defective. I'm confused. Please help!!

Download from market app called Battery Calibration.
Open it and connect your phone to the charger. When you have 100% status, and ~4200mV click Calibrate and unplug your charger.
Then set the LCD Brightness to max, set timeout to never sleep or just use your phone to fast discharge it(that doesn't need to be fast and doesn't need to be slow it just need drop to 0%).
Let it automatically die because of low power, and then charge it to 100%(you can use battery calibration app to see the voltage, around 4.2V it's max).
After that your phone should have a much better battery life.

It sound like you have a faulty battery if it only lasts three hours, I think you would have to be gaming to flatten a good battery in that time.
John.
Mine is the same. If I'm browsing the web, using instagram, Facebook and receiving email my battery will go from full to empt in easily 3 to 4 hours.
Backup, factory reset, reinstall apps from market (try to install only the ones you use a lot at first), restore the data you need. If you're still seeing the same things happening, install a battery logger / system logger. Use this guide to see if there's a rogue app that's causing the trouble: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937080
If it's still acting up and you cannot identify any unusual drain, I'd ask for a replacement.
After you get things sorted, you can use apps like Juice Defender from the Market to prolong your battery life even more.

thanks guys for the sincere contribution.... i hope your advices help me...
my top battery consuming activities are:
temple run
google play
msging
go launcher
and nothing else
gaming and browsing certainly make the battery drain almost visibly..
things above and beyond the above to try include..
1. reduce screen brightness
2. reduce frequency of or disable background updates by apps
3. no vibrate notifications
4. work more, play less!..lol
the battery life of the Note is great, unless you use it .. a battery monitor will allow you to see the battery drain over time..this will help when you address item #2 above.. if you accept default refresh times, and have lots of social apps your battery can die in 6-7 hrs without even using the Note at all!..
I really love when people give the tip to not use your phone as a battery saving tip

some hints for better battery life
Got mine the other day. First charge battery was fine. Second charge went down 7% in about 5-10 mins. Then it restarted :/ Came back on, down to 88%. Turned the phone off as was frustrating me as it restarted 3 times yesterday. But when I turned it back on I was at 83%?
Hasn't last me the day, it's on charge now. When it pops up telling me to charge it tells me to shut all apps and that using while charging may effect it charging. Is this correct? I didn't think it would have anything to do with it?
3 to the 4 hours continuous use is normal... Only if your phone is standby and then depletes in that time You should be worried. I recommend researching wakelocks in that case.
There are many variables that can atribute to batterylife depletion. Eliminate those first and you will have your answer.
I had best results on stunner version 19. To bad it has the death kernel (leaked ics)

Battery drain, that was none on LA4 became very strong!
Installed Better Battery Stats and discovered that the CPU was always running.
Factory reset solved it...

Im using CM10 and Trinity Kernel, both latest versions.
As of now these are my stats.
Screen on 3 hours
20 Hours on battery, with 16% left.
Anyone any advice or tips?

IMO not good at all. How long since you flashed the rom/kernel?
I usually give it a few charging cycles before judging a rom/kernel to be good or bad
Obviously everything depends on your bightness levels, clock speed and undervolting.
What clock speed are you running at? I am on AOKP and using faux's kernel at 1.2GHz and battery is double yours. My brightness is quite low though
Also depends on what you're doing on it
Auto brightness.
TKT App, limiting it to 1150Mhz. UV by 25mv.
Basic browsing, facebook, twitter etc. Odd game for 5-10 mins.
Flashed the ROM & Kernel Yesterday, but its being acting like this for a while on previous ROMs tbh.
Consider using BetterBatteryStats: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15869868 to find what could be the cause.
Sent from my Nexus 7
yeah going to look into that.
For now, ive changed my kernel to Faux, and undervolted by 75mv. Also changed the limit to 1.1Ghz, using System tuner.
Going to charge to 100%, calibrate, and then install betterbatterystats to see what causes it. Noticed my unit seems a little warm, well, System tuner reporting it at about 45C, but then that could be because ive been using it for a good 10-15 mins installing and setting things up. (Also using a Gel case, guessing that wot help heat escaping!)
Well that's not too bad mines at 12 hrs and 37% but Im constantly on mine all day
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Okay.... have an issue!
Have been using the Nexus 7 happily today, got it down to 6% and it switched off by itself. I don't mean powered down, it simply died.
1. Plugged in the mains lead and tried to boot up but it wouldn't.
2. Tried again 5mins later and this time it showed the white battery charging icon so I left it.
3. Came back 2 hours later and with it still charging I powered it back up, only after it had loaded the battery percentage has only increased to 8%
So, anyone care to help me out here...... has anyone else experienced this?
Just had another peek (it's now been another 30mins which means 2hrs 30mins on charge) and it's only increased by 1%.
So from 6% when it died to 2hrs 30mins later on charge it's only risen 3%
It's a stock 16GB device.
