With Froyo, bootscreen has change location. Now it's system/customize/resources. The problem is that you can't overwrite it, it's protected...... If anyone knows how to fix it .....
If your rooted download Root Explorer (£2.50) from the market, copy bootanimation.zip to SD card then move it to the correct folder using Root Explorer. (mine's is in /data/local) I'm using Pinky Desire v1.3 ROM

works once but cant change the one i push now lol
Have a look inside the file, some bootimages are flashable, some have to be pushed. And if the folder structure is wrong/old in the ones to flash it won't work - extract bootanimation.zip and push it.
Sent from my DeVillain with BIOS bootanimation
yea and how we know its pushable or flashable bootscreens ...
anyway it has stuck my desire in the HTC bootscreen
will keep the actual bootscreen till someone can tell me how to
thanxs
Open the zip, if it has a folder structure eg, /data/local it is flashable

Installed Modules copied over at 0k??

So i have upgraded to the new r11 zimage and tried to install the latest modules but only some have copied over as others have copied but at 0k??
there are nine that will not copy over
Any ideas?
Enough free space?
Did you copy it using Android's USB mode? That tends to corrupt files, for installing modules I use Android Commander.
Yea plenty of free space others have copied fine. It's copying the file over but its empty 0k I'm using a root explorer to copy over as there are a few files to copy with this update

I shall take a look at that

android is working still so ill just wait for a build with the latest kernal
your trying to copy the files without root privileges.
in the term the first thing you need to do is type su
that will change the $ to a #
then copy the files.
cp /sdcard/*.ko /system/lib/modules
I shall try that but I wonder why some went over then but others did not
Thank you

[Q] how to install ad blocker on nand?

Has anyone been able to install adblocker?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I installed Ad free by "bigtincan" from the market...as far as I can tell, everything is working just fine
I can install it but it won't let me update the dns
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
If Adfree isn't working for you, Go here: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
Download the hosts.zip file, extract it, and copy it via adb to /system/etc (or) /etc .
Or, copy it to your sdcard, then use root explorer or something to copy it there, then reboot.

Isn't the DNS cache cleared during a reboot? That's what the app says after updating...

Mac
when i tried to download new host it says fail system is read only

Is your build rooted? Some of them aren't really rooted by default, which case you can use z4root. I'm using tytung's FRG83D v1.9a NAND-build, which is rooted and I just installed AdFree by BigTinCan without problems.
Sincerely,
Mac
I use Gauner Desire HD NAND ROM
and rooted it with Z4root. Now the Add blocker from market works fine.

Get root access if you don't already have it
Using root explorer go to root dir.
Then check permissions and go to system/etc mount as r/w and paste host file.
The host file I use I git if darkstone @ gamesquare.co.UK. or. Com
It works in all the nand builds
If you don't have root access use z4root to do so

Question. Deleting system files

I can't delete my gmail.API out of the system files it just respawns. And ideas?
apk?
Make sure the system is rw. Otherwise it just "pretends" to delete.
Yeah apk sorry. Switched keyboarding. root explorer says r/w at the top
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Don't trust root explorer. It doesnt always correctly mount as rw.
How do I fix that sir?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
You can use terminal commands, but for a fairly simple way to do it, I use "Remount /system (ro/rw)". It's a free app on the market, easily remounts system as rw at the touch of a button.
Well my idea didn't work but thanks guys

Help installing CM9 music player

I really like the CM9 player but I'm having trouble installing it. I followed a guide that said back up music.apk then delete it with root browser, then install CM9 music player. It worked, it successfully installed but I just used it and halfway thru one song my phone froze. I did a battery pull, when it rebooted, it said "sorry, music has stopped working" and it says that every time. Someone help?

Could I just use Titanium Backup to force remove, without backing it up, and then installing CM9??

Cm9 is an entire ROM. If you want that, boot into recovery and format system and data, and then wipe cache and dalvik cache. Then you'll have a clean slate to install the ROM onto.
If you want just the music player, yes you can use titanium to uninstall then try putting the music player in system/app changing the permissions to rw, r, r, installing and rebooting.

How can I change the permissions after deleting the stock app and installing cm9?

I use root explorer, but you can use terminal emulator as well. If you can't afford Root Explorer, I'd suggest you hook, steal or kill to get the money. Totally worth it.
Anyway, using Terminal Emulator, type in these lines and hit "return" between each:
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
cd /system/app
chmod 644 Music.apk
There are alternate, shorter methods, but this one is fun.
I used jrummy root explorer lite and I just replaced the file with the cm one and renamed it to music.apk after that I set permissions rebooted and set permission on cwm and it was working perfectly though I don't use it (stock ics player is awesome) it works just fine.

So you didn't force remove the stock music app? you just replaced it and renamed it? then set permissions like the reply above and then again on cwm?

Setting permissions on both seems a little redundant one or the other should suffice.

True, but I wanted to be sure so I did both. It never hurts to do both now does it?
