Kernel question - Fascinate General

I've been testing a few kernels lately and have had a mixed bag of results. My question is this- what's everyone using to achieve decent battery life with no music playback interference? Thanks.

Try setting SetCPU to minimum 200 and see if that helps.

are you using setcpu? if you are, see what happens without setcpu.
also, why not try another kernel? hydra's or adrynalyn's? they both have undervolted kernels.
battery stats are also welcome... up time? awake time?
I also recommend SystemPanel, you can trouble shoot yourself and monitor what app is killing your battery.
I'm at about 7 hours off the charger and I'm at about 7 percent. That's pretty sad haha. Ill stop usin setcpu and try a dif kernal I guess. Wonder if any of the sense.roms do better on battery causs this is killin me haha. I'm gonna try syspanel

downloading the donate version is a must though... i promise you will get your moneys worth! it's a invaluable tool...enable it to monitor your activity and let it run for a day or so. After you find out your problem app(s) you can troubleshoot from there. just don't forget to disable monitoring when you are done finding your problem. SystemPanel with monitoring enabled does use battery as well (not that much but still).
good luck!

Overclocking

Im running CM7 with HighLeakage Glitch kernel.
When I'm plugged in to the charger, and Overclocked to 1.4GHz, my phone gets very hot. Should I lower the volts or the frequency?
And overclocking, if done right, wont damage the hardware? Like if their was not alot of heat?
Could I run 1.4ghz without so much heat? I have undervolted it -50mV volts.
Is it the high leakage?
What should I do?
Any input would be appreciated.

My phone runs really hot when using I heart radio and charging it at the same time...i'm also clocked to 1.4...since you are running overclock anything is possible but Samsung put code in their latest release for 1200mhz so I would say that is safe...also high leakage does emit the most heat since it is the least efficient..try running medium and low with the same overclock...it may help with heat

Yea your right. Low didn't work also. So I'm just going to stick with high.

Wait, does medium and low leakage require lower volts too?

its too late this time, but remember that you can use the command 'reboot recovery' in adb to avoid having to do a full odin in most cases. I made a guide about getting adb up and running for noobs. You can find it in my created thread history.

there should be an entire explanation on what the different leakages mean. it'd be nice to read rather than guessing

Just a heads up, if you ask in our threads, then a developer can actually answer your question, as opposed to the users trying to help you. Especially since this is the third thread you've started with questions like this, almost all of which are answerable in my thread.

Glacier_One_v2.0 has been pretty great for me so far....
Well you have to remember that it's not just the rom, the kernel the rom uses also plays a big role in battery life. Also using apps like Juice Defender, etc. can affect battery life statistics being reported by other users.

IMO Juice defender sucks and so does most of those battery saver apps. They cause more problems than they are worth get a good battery like an anker and don't run a ****load of apps and try official cm7 or try applying governors like smartassv2 or similar that adjust itself while sleeping or maybe an app like setcpu and setup some profiles thats like i said IMO...Good Day!!!

Faux123 kernel affecting wireless charging?

Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone knows a setting in the latest kernel (008-tbm) that affects wireless charging. I am on stock ROM with only this kernel installed. Wireless charging worked fine until I installed this kernel, so I know something is goofed up with my kernel settings. I'm UV -12.5 mV global

he doesnt have enough posts to post in the development sections.
Thank you for clearing that up for him. I hate posting stuff because everyone has to be an @$$ about helping out. If you don't want to help just move on, I don't want to hear how stupid I am just what I can do that I haven't thought of. Thanks

try raising your voltages, undervolting can have create such issues. every device is different in what it likes and dislikes.
OK thanks for the help guys. I'll try that right away. Right now it'll show as charging for about five minutes and then for some reason will stop.

OK I tried that and it didn't work, I'm using the intellidemand governor and all of the rest of faux123's recommended settings. My CPU bin is nominal if that helps any.

Why do you even care? It mean that much to you?
Posts like yours are more annoying than the original threads.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
you should try a different kernel, just to make sure. it takes seconds to flash a kernel, so that shouldnt be an issue. if it works fine with another kernel, then the issue is the kernel. if the same issue persists, then its your rom or device.

Yeah I'm on faux's kernel as well with no wireless charging problems. There's a good chance that it might be stopping because your battery is getting too hot. Do you have daydream enabled? Does your phone feel hot when charging?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah I just got it working for about 30 minutes and my phone is super hot. It's never been this hot before so I'm gonna try a new kernel and see what happens like someone said earlier to narrow it down if it's the kernel for sure
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
What charger are you using? Some do not work well with the N4.
I have used several different kernels and none have affected the wireless charging. My phone gets up to 41°C while charging wirelessly so getting hot is not unusual.
I'm using the official nexus charging orb from Google play. I just flashed a new kernel and wireless charging seems to be back working. I'm gonna give it another hour just to make sure before I make any assumptions
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
One weird thing I did notice though is that on faux kernel I could not UV past -50mV without my phone rebooting, making my lowest clock of 384Mhz at 850mV. However I'm on harsh kernel right now and it shows that my lowest clock is at 800mV stock without any adjustments and is working fine. Would that make any sense? I know the governors could possibly be more or less harsh on the battery but shouldn't the failure value resulting in rebooting be the same no matter what governor or kernel you use? I'm by no means an expert as to why I'm asking
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Is not unheard of to not be stable at the same voltages with different kernels. Also if you were using one of the kernels with turbo boost your chip may have needed a higher voltage for the higher frequencies. Or not, I don't know lol.
Glad your charger is working now. I like Harshes kernel.

Kernel refer

Can you refer me to a kernel that's out of the box ready to go? To be honest I am pleased with the stock kernel, which i am using, but I want a mod to make the in ear headset volume louder and supposedly I can't do that on stock kernel. So I need something close.
When I look through faux and Franco threads I get overwhelmed with all the settings and interfaces talked about.
Another thing is I like stock Google colors, not the darker ones a lot of the devs have been updating to.
Thanks
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Go with Faux To the best of my knowledge if you flash Faux's kernel you retain stock Google color presets until you choose to tweak them via Faux's kernel management apps (you can also revert to Google presets via his app after experimenting with colors yourself). He does have an enhanced stock kernel if you want to keep as close to stock as possible.
As for volume or speaker settings he's got you covered there as well--check out his apps on GPlay. You don't have to feel overwhelmed because he does provide you with "recommended" settings on the various sliders & knobs within the app interface. And the enhanced performance & battery life you'll get is just gravy. Good luck!

With either Franco or Faux's kernel, no need to be overwhelmed by all the settings. They work just fine using the default settings out-of-the-box, and you can just change the settings that interest you.
Use Franco kernel. It's been amazing so far. Everyone is impressed with battery life and all. You don't need to mess with the settings. Just run as is.
