Anyone with questions of available ram please read this. - Galaxy S I9000 General

k this has been posted on many threads by me and others yet users still whine about the available ram i'm tired of it, so i thought of opening a new thread for your queries regarding only the ram.
now to your ram questions lets take a look at the other popular android phone,
HTC desire, it was advertised as 576 mb ram and but on using this phone i found only 398 mb available.
So,
HTC Desire-576mb ram(398 useable)
Sgs-512mb ram(304 useable)
I also believe samsung did no falsely advertise their product. All android phones have this. Even my htc hd2 which is windows mobile did not show 448 mb of ram.

visit this link if u have more doubts. So lets leave samsung at peace here instead of nagging them for no fault of their own.

Question 576Mb Patch

hi everybody!
i saw some chefs cooks their roms with 576Mb patch in and some without it
some people say the patch is real and some say it is fake and it only reads some wrong information from hd2 and displays it but without realy releasing some extra ram
my question is how can we check if ram is really 576Mb? there is any method for that?
if it is already answered please point me into right direction
thank you!
check this thread out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=622964
it's confirmed
you could use this little app to test it yourself
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=627404
thank your for your fast replies
i will read on because the suggested app doesn't clarify for me
regards
sorry to bring that back, but i saw some of the most respected chefs here still don't include this patch in their roms
if the patch realy works, why they wouldn't use it?
what would be the reason?
could some of the chefs please answer?
thank you!
regards
well unless you really push your hd2, you don't really need the extra ram. and having the extra ram available limits what radio you can use. (just my thoughts)
Exact, because the extra RAM introduces some limitations, and isn't really useful.
what is the difference between diffrent radio's?
what do they change\ fix?

Advantages of HIMEM/Unlocking additional RAM on N1

Firstly, apologies if this has been posted or answered elsewhere. Please close/lock/destroy/dispose of this thread!
What advantages does unlocking the additional RAM give to the N1? I'm assuming the RAM works in the same was a PC (i.e it's working memory) so would summise that the additional 300 or so MB would make for smoother multi-tasking if the phone is memory starved?
Thanks in advance!
<edit> nvm, thought about it some more/found a random thread and have pretty much answered my own questions
Mods feel free to close if required!
Cheers

[Q] I was thinking of getting an hd2

whats the diffrence between this (T-Mobile USA HD2) and the "HTC Leo: HD2"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_HD2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=776175
thanks
as far as I can tell from the first link, they're both the same thing.
but then whey are to 2 separate forums for them both here on XDA?
the second link was a link to this topic (was that a mistake?)
The difference is that the T-Mo US version has 1024MB ROM and the others have 512MB ROM

To separate links cuz out peeps from across the pond got it first then several months later we got it. They have more traffic on their thread cuz it's not just one country posting there (like the USA threads). I would suggest you look at their thread for answers aswell. Most question asked here have been asked on their thread aswell. Oh, just don't be flashing any .51. radios. Like the poster above stated the whole 512mb RAM and 1024mb RAM and the EU version is slightly thinner I think.

thanks I think I understand now.
tmobile version has more rom so that ones better, however the leo has more traffic and I should use that forum for dev info, although I should use only the Tmo radio for obvious reasons.
thanks.

What exactly is a data.img and what's the advantage of switching between them?

Hi all,
Here comes my most newbie-esque of questions. All searches yield results of people asking how to switch them or import them but none have actually explained the technical stuff behind them and why switching to a larger one is sometimes considered an advantage?!
If 1GB is better than 256mb for example, why don't all chefs ship their builds with a 1GB image?
I'm currently on DarkStone1337's latest SuperRAM 1.5 and have seen plenty of people talking about custom/other data.imgs in the thread. I don't want to clutter that up so figure a new thread could help people like myself who are wondering about data.img's on Android!
Cheers!
DATA IMG is the Internal memory of android running off SD cards,
so the bigger the more space, thats all,
Best regds

PLEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASE do something for most of 100 000 000 users. You are the best.
P.S: Only way to read because in his thread nobody reply. 15 000 questions. 10 answers.
How hard is it to understand where the right place to post new threads? Take it to general
Flame on! lol jk Guess a mod should be let known to move it.
Try projection's build. Some stuff removed, some squashing, final space free 180mb after apps are installed, about 120mb internal memory free.
Sent from my HD2 NANDroid using XDA App
