Hi all
First post here, read alot though.
I have a magic which was running a 2.1 rom and now running cyanogen 2.2 rom.
Both were slow and now its got to the point where i avoid txting cause the keyboard disappears and doing stuff on my phone as its so slow.
Im looking for solutions to this.. they may come in either a form of recommendation from a magic user with a fast older rom.. but preferably i would like to go back to stock and then maybe sell it.
I lost my original nandroid backup when shifting computers.
But i have another identical magic from my workmate that is untouched that i could make a copy of and place on the slow one if its possible and someone could tell me how.
Semi new to android rom'ing but been in IT for years and now work for Vodafone. So will be able to follow any instructions.
NZ Vodafone HTC Magic 32b
Thanks in advance

Anyone able to help me with this?
Thanks
Wolfsta
That phone is just slow in general
On my magic I have amen ra's latest recovery and a rooted version of the official tmobile ota froyo update its somewhere in the androind development part for mytouch. Amen ras new recovery alows you to partition the sd card so you can you can put more swap memory I put 92 and 512. And it also helps if you overclock and manage your running programs.
Sometimes if you don't flash the rom right it makes it run slow too

Just got my MT3g - rooted with 1 click mthd. Got a 8GB 6 card. Tried the Qtek Hero - all fuzzy! Tried the Jac Hero - liked how it looked, but was choppy, and slow (especially when browsing) I switched to CyanMod 4.3.2.1 with 2.629.6-cm42 (Kernel Version) I like its speed, the 1.6 firmwware but I would really want the Hero look plus Outlook. Any suggestions? What's a smooth fast HERO ROM (if such a thing exists) or what can I do to make my CyanM better?
Thx
You have a couple of options, but you didn't give us much information. When you tried the Hero ROMs, how was your SD card partitioned? Did you have it partitioned at all? If you did, what was the size of the swap partition? I recommend at least 96MB of swap for a Hero ROM. Also, did you have an ext partition? Was it ext2, ext3, or ext4?
I have found ALL of the Hero ROMs to be too laggy for my liking or there are just bugs I can't live with. CyanogenMod 4.2.3.1 does have Exchange support via the Work Email application, so I'm not quite sure what you meant by having Outlook. There are a TON of themes for CyanogenMod which will make it look like a Hero ROM. You will find most of those in the Dream Themes section here on XDA.
If you liked the speed/look of the Hero that was fuzzy, there's a fix for that. Just search this forum for "fix blurries" and you'll find the patch.
ya tell us what size partition you used and if you get the fuzzies its cause the build prop and the kernel arent mytouch 3g compatible... you can flash this on top of the hero rom after it completely installs you flash this over the rom no wiping at all just apply update through the recovery image(http://twistedumbrella.slackdev.com/Deport-1.0.zip
) and you tried two hero roms that are old!!!!!!! I suggest Herver Had that on my old mytouch beofre it got stolen now I finally tried cyanogen gonna stick with it for like 3 days til I get super bored with it lol but Herver is awesome
MyTouch 3G is probably the 32B with less ram, but I'm not sure, you need to check it out yourself in fastboot. So it'll be not wise to install a Hero rom as it's just not fast enough. Just get 1.6 or 2.0 and flash a Hero like theme with nice widgets.
Greetings.
I've been reading around the internet about all those ROMs floating around, and all i've found is it that the HERO ROM for the Magic should be great. Yet i can't see what the advantages of upgrading is. Could anybody please enlighten me?
The only advantage I see from upgrading to a hero rom is that you get the sense ui, and the ui runs faster on the magic than the g1.
Just a word of warning that bluetooth does not work on Hero roms, if you have a 32B Magic.
There are a lot of advantages though, root access being the main one which will allow you to do wifi tethering and access areas you would not normally be able to access, which is useful for taking backups and screenshots among other things. Custom roms here will (usually) also give you better performance than stock roms through compcache or using a swap file or swap partition on your sd card. Probably the biggest advantage IMO is getting to try out the latest available stuff for Android months before it gets pushed to you by your mobile carrier. There is no hint of a release date for Android 2.0 for HTC Magic yet but you can download a rom from here and try it out today if you wanted to.
I've read that the HERO ROM brings Flash to the Magic as well, is that correct?
And yet another question, i've got a danish Magic, 32A with HTC written on the backside, what HERO ROM should i use?
Im sort of new to android and dont really know much about these things but I want to upgrade my phone from crappy 1.5 to like Eclair or Sense UI or anything other than 1.5 (I hate it)
P.S.
I had a dream before and I tried to flash a rom and it bricked so is there like a Rom for the magic for rogers that is safe, like for sure?
Thanks

Yes, you can root your phone. Try to include detailed information about your phone so people can give you specific information regarding your phone and even give you some links.
For example, use a signature such as:
Sapphire HTC Magic 32A
RADIO-3.22.20.17
ROM-CyanogenMod 4.2.13
RECOVERY-Amon RA v1.5.2H
THEME-n/a
LOCK SCREEN-default
SD CARD-8GB 512mb:EXT3 / 32mb LinuxSwap / Remainder Fat32
Okay thnx, so can u tell me any roms for the htc magic that are safe
All are safe. How exactly did you brick you're Dream...?
I flashed a htc hero rom and then i couldnt turn it on anymore or go to recovery, but I have another question do I need a special SPL to be able to flash roms or is any fine
Sense Ui for Rogers Magic
Hello Everyone,
Well since you want to know when your Magic will get the sense ui or hasn't gotten it yet is that they still are working on it. Check this link out: http://simflecks.com/?tag=rogers
The post is quite recent and even right now they still are going to release it. Things got delayed to the device problem of 911 not working with gps feature on.
Hmm.. this topic somehow doesn't seem to belong in the "Themes & Wallpapers" forum.
Better go to the General forum, or if you want support for a specific upgrade/rom you can go here and post in the desired update/rom thread.
Now, since you posted your question: if you want SenseUI running on 2.1 you'll have to wait a bit because the source or rom image is not available yet. There are some experimental roms available, but I doubt they are for everyday use (some things are still not working). You can however run vanilla 1.6 if you want a higher and stable Android version, but it won't come with SenseUI. Vanilla Eclair is also an option, but currently not as stable as 1.6 (same reason, no 2.1 source/rom image/drivers made available yet), but they are getting there.
u can have a sense ui running on 1.5, if you are only concerned with how it looks. Just flash the cursorsence rom, if u have 32a phone. ensure u dont have a perfect spl. If you did the rogers dream->magic switch, likely you have a 32a phone with 1.33.0010 perfect spl. you must get rid of this first.
here's some links to help you out as i did this process yesterday. took me a helluva long time.
Goldcard Method
Fix perfected spl using this goldcard
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT RADIO AND SPL!!!!!.
Radio and spl upgrade
Cursorsence
I have a Rogers HTC Magic. I haven't upgraded the SPL or the Radio. I'm currently running "[ROM] [32A] Android 1.6 Super Stable & Super Fast... [FEB 10th] Old Radio" for everyday use and it works great.
If your are really new at this, go to theunlockr dot com. Scroll down a little and you'll see a drop box called "Select a Category" select HTC MyTouch 3G/Magic, scroll down again. You'll see 2 video links for "How To: Root the HTC Magic in One Click!" and "How To: Load a Custom ROM on Your HTC Magic".
Good Luck

Agreed. Moved to General.
Hi,
I've taken the plunge and finally moved from Windows Mobile to Andriod - picked up a HTC Magic (UK - Vodafone) its already sim unlocked... Having a play with it before i decide whether the HTC Supersonic is worth splashing out on when it comes out..
I know that you cant get the sense upgrade for the UK Vodafone HTC Magic - but i've seen some buzz words like rooting / flashing on here which suggests its still possible.
There are so many threads on here - its difficult to just find what i need - so if anyone could help i'd really appreciate
- Need a simple, idiot proof guide on how to get my HTC Magic with a sense rom on it (I have a 16gb memory card if it requires)
I just want a nice stable ROM which everythings works on - and a foolproof guide on how to install. So both pointing towards the guide, and pointed towards what the best ROM is.
Thanks for the help fellas
Since i don't have a clue what kind of magic the (UK - Vodafone) is i wont be able to guide you unless i start to search for info myself. So please provide me/us with more info about your phone and you probably have better luck getting help. What there will be useful to know is which Hardware revision and SPL you have. To figure that out you should check out the wiki there you should find more than enough info to get started. I will look back in this thread again tomorrow to see if you got further but still need some guidance.
Good luck with this, its not to hard as long as you care to read and read carefully before jumping into doing something there could brick your mobile. Bricks is often made when people does something without fully understanding what they are doing and what it does to the phone. But first of all figure out if you got a 32A or 32B board and what is the SPL. When you know this its easier to figure out what method you need to use to flash a cooked rom into the phone and what rom that will be suitable for the phone you got.
My guess is that since you write that the mobile wont get any sense update it will be a 32B board you got, but again this should not be a guessing game cause it can brick your mobile
You'll have to do some research on your own first. Get some ideas on what SPL's are, how to root, etc. etc. I did a month of research before I did root my phone and flashed different ROMs.
You need to provide your information about your phone like what SPL (although I would guess 1.33.0004 since I do have vodafone Magic as well), running on cupcake or donut, etc. That being said, I have a couple of sites that might be able to help you. Read/watch these thoroughly and understand them before you do root your phone.
http://theunlockr.com/category/howto/android_how_tos/htc-mytouch-3g-magic/ (a lot of video guides that you might find useful)
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_MT3G/Magic_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod *****I rooted my phone by using cyanogenmod's method for "Non T-mobile 32B Magics". In the last step, you can flash a different ROM instead of cyanogen's if you really want sense, but I highly recommened cyanogenmod as your first choice of ROM since it is so awesome.

Has other newbie links.
Don't be in a hurry rooting your phone as you might do something wrong (although it's hard to with all the wonderful guides out there) and deeply regret it. Do your research before you root it. And also try out different ROMs out there for Sense. People have different opinions on each ROM.
Thanks both of you
Love this site - ever need a hand.. Always people around more than willing to throw you some advise.
I haven't gotten the phone yet - arrives tomorrow. So was pre researching for when i get it..
Thanks for all the tips, i'm definitely going to research this as much as possible before attempting it.. As you say, don't want to end up breaking the phone.
I will post back here tomorrow with the motherboard / firmware details it has etc. Then see what direction you guys can point me towards .
Thanks again

Where do i go from here . - "Non T-mobile 32B Magics" guide? and instead of cyanogenmod ROM use one i want?
Also any of u know what the most stable - fast Sense UI ROM is for the HTC Magic 32B is? - just want one like that with everything working.
From reading - looks like this is the best HTC Sense UI ROM to use:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=644275
Question i got - what is Death SPL - and do i need it.. And where in the guide im using, should i do this ext 4 stuff and how
Thanks
Righty -
I decided to just follow the "Non T-mobile 32B Magics" guide you suggested - and do the Sense UI ROM later..
All done . Everything went smoothly.
Now i do wanna try and Sense UI ROM - but do i need the Death SPL? - as searching.. It seems some say thats more for the G1. Not entirely sure..
Also it requires latest radio? u guys got a guide and where i should get the latest radio.. Or is my radio fine..
Ah is ok i managed to flash it
Decided to go back to cyanogenmod stable ROM - the Sense UI ROM is almost there, but not quite yet.
Your radio is fine as it is, it won't hurt to flash the newest radio though.
Haykuro/Danger/Death SPL are the same, 1.33.2005, and again do your research before you ask questions because just asking questions and getting specific answers won't get you much.
Same thing with partitioning your SD card. I recommend checking out theunlockr.com or watch videos from youtube (lots of guides there, I recommened ItsAndroidsWorld

When you've rooted your phone the Recover Image will provide you with the options you need to partition your card.
I've personally used this ROM and it is the fastest Sense port I've tried though not something I use every day as it's not as fast as the 1.6 (Donut) based ROMs.
My personal favourite is SuperFast made by HTCClay. He also has a FastTest ROM which has links on this site but you can grab the SuperFast ROM from here the Android Spin forums. I'd post a link but it won't let me yet.
It's fast and stable and I love it.
If you want the DroidEris ROM then your phone should be able to handle it without resorting to a Death/Danger/Whatever SPL. I have the UK Vodafone Magic and I've not had to flash any new radios or SPLs to use those ROMs.
Be careful though. Once you flash one ROM you can't stop!!!
I'm a SERIAL FLASHER!!! AAAAHHH!!!

Hi guys, I'm pretty much a newbie to this all and was wondering if anyone could help me get my HD2 back to its original settings of being on WM6.5.
I recently upgraded it to 2.2 by NAND ( no idea what that means) but I was successful on getting it up and running on android.
Im now trying to be more adventurous and see if I can boot the rom to 4.4 but just for safe measures, I'd like to know how I can get the system back. Also if anyone can post the links of what Id need to download to get it to 4.4 and how I need to do that from 2.2 would be great. I don't know if I could just upload another android version on top of the 2.2 or if I would have to remove that first.
Thank you in advance

In future search before posting. To flash a higher version of Android (although 4.4 doesn't exist yet and probably never will) check out the guide in my sig. To flash a stock ROM just download one from the HTC website and flash the RUU in the bootloader.
I tried looking for previous posts that would hep, but this stuff is completely going over my head and I am still determined to get my HTC on an upgraded android version. What android version would you recommend? anything more up-to-date than 2.2 would be great (with everything working, I have read posts where some people have had problems with the camera not working)
I have had a look on the HTC website and they no longer support HD2 :-/ How can I restore it? *confused* I'm a complete newbie and a noob, yup both, but I will not be giving up
Further guidance would be great.
I think a JB ROM would be good if you want functionality and the latest version. If you want stability then 2.3 is probably best. The only real solution is to try a few ROMs out and see what you like best.
