Wondering if anyone has heard of this before...Just upgraded my Hero to a Desire HD, so thought I'd get my Hero unlocked. It's currently locked to Orange UK.
I contacted someone on Ebay to buy a code, but they have said that my 'IMEI isn't in the database'. How would this be and is it possible to still get it unlocked?
Cheers
Did you get the phone from Orange? If so and if you have been with them for more than a year or so they will sell you an unlock code for not much more than you would pay on the net. They should have a record of your IMEI.
Turned out it was available on another IMEI database...

Ditto please. Unlocking is 100% legal anyway as you can ask Orange for one, but they will probably charge you a small fortune for the unlock code.
You can unlock the device by using the IMEI code, look for "IMEI service unlock" providers.
I've tried a few websites and currently none of the one's I've been to will support the Blackstone/Touch HD.
http://www.totalgsm.org/unlock2.html
It doesnt say the touch HD is supported, but it does work. The original site i found linked here when i clicked to buy an unlock code.
how much does it cost at orange to unlock the HD?
I just did mines here www.htccode.com got tired of waiting, cost me aboy £15
I used this site http://www.htcunlock.net/
Entered my imei and got code within 10 mins. £15. Brilliant!
Hello,
Probably will buy this device tomorrow, used, dont sure ifs its unbranded or Vodafone (Portugal) branded.
I have a question ...
- If it's unbranded (and so on unlocked), there's anything I need to know (something in the firmware), so I can install "anything" I want?
- If its branded and sim locked... it's easy to unbrand and unlock? Should I take a look of something on the firmware?
Really appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Tiago
There is no good way yet to unlock the htc tattoo locked to orange uk except from using the ismart sim 2008. Besides the simlock problem, you have a smaller screen than other android devices. So some apps or games might not work properly.. but most of them do. Also you have limited access to the market, that is, you can access products that have been specified htc tattoo compliant only unless you root the device and install the cracked market app. Besides that everything is ok.

I never said it's tattoo orange uk... I said maybe its vodafone portugal tattoo...
smaller screen? what's the normal screen for tattoo ?
he ment its small screen, compared to other HTC phones, most phones got 3+ inches screen, tattoo is 2.8.
about unlocking - its ur rights to try put ur sim card in the phone before u buy it. Myn was unlocked, thought they sayd its locked to they network. At same time - they use same phones for selling as locked to they network with a contract, as same phones for selling it for full price...

I dont want to count with simcard... always had problems with it.
So its not easily possible to unlock and unbrand a tattoo ?
Dude, if I had the chance I would have bought a device which is easily upgradeable to another Android OS or other ROMS (maybe with different OS').
But returning to your issue:
Unbranding shouldn't be a problem (I removed Vodafone Germany branding), but with unlocking there are problems with certain providers. Just put your SIM in first and see if it boots, otherwise I would take another device if the tattoo should be locked.

But if I put my TMN sim card on Vodafone Tattoo, it's suppose to work ?
Not understood what you explained, sorry.
Some carriers sell phones that are locked to them, others sell unlocked phones.
Here in the UK for instance, vodafone phones are not locked and an HTC Tattoo bought from them can be used with any SIM. Ones sold by Orange are locked to them and can only be used with an Orange SIM.
I do not know if Vodafone in Portugal lock their phones or not, the simple way of checking is by trying your non vodafone SIM and seeing if it works.
Unlocking the Tattoo can be done but costs $15 or so I believe (although with the Desire they then charge you another $20 - a very dodgy practice), far better to buy one that's not locked in the first place unless you want to use it on the carrier it's locked to.
You posted a couple of days ago - have you already bought the phone? Was it unlocked? Or have you not bought it yet?

Now I understood.
Here in Portugal, ALL phones are SIM Locked. Unlock goes from 50$ to 150$.
That's why I asked if it's easy to do it by us.
HTCCode.com say on the front page that it costs $15 but people in the Desire forum are saying they are being told that their device costs more - but only after they've paid the $15.
calling anyone who can help out a windows mobile returnee. i just got a t-mobile wing from my cousin from the US as a gift but it's still sim locked to t-mobile. this is my 2nd windows mobile phone after my o2 XDA IIs got stolen way back 3yrs ago. i love these kinds of phones coz i can do lots of stuff like install apps. but of course, i want to use the phone on my home network also. so, can i ask anybody on the site, who has free time, to call t-mobile and help me out to get an unlock code? i am from the philippines and i have no other way of calling t-mobile to get an unlock code. i tried my cousins but apparently, they're too busy to do such things at the moment. anyway, i just wanted to post this hoping somebody here, who is a t-mobile subscriber, would be kind enough to call t-mobile up for me. thanks to whoever wants to help. my t-mo wing's IMEI is 35286201606649701. my email address, by the way, is [email protected]. thanks guys!
no one wants to help...tsk tsk...
please help....
how long should the unlock code be? i got a 15-digit code? is that correct? and how do i type it in? the unlock code dialog box let's me type only 8 digits? anyone care to help?
HTC-P4351 from Unicel
I have an old HTC P-4351 (assume it's the same as the T-Mobile 4350 "Wing") that I bought from a local carrier (Unicel) that went out of business a year and a half ago. I replaced it with an AT&T Tilt2 which I'm very happy with and have found a ton of neat tricks for here. Thanks for that.
I'd like to put the 4351 on eBay but it's locked, the company is out of business and can't provide an unlock code. I attempted to get one from HTC but they replied that only the carrier could provide that information. From what I see on eBay, the thing could fetch about $80 if it wasn't a locked brick sitting in my drawer.
IMEI: 35286201072742502
Instructions on how to unlock would be greatly appreciated.
I just had a nice, long, "LiveChat" with AT&T, who purchased the original carrier (Unicell) the phone was sold by. They seemed eager to help, knew exactly what I was asking for and why, asked all the right questions including the IMEI... and then told me no unlock code was available in their system after looking it up.
hi all, ive been lurking this site for ages, and thought this would be a good place to start my first thread.
basically, i bought a second hand htc hero that is locked to 3 UK. its running android 2.1update1. basically, i would like it unlocked and a bonus would be to put another rom on there. i dont see why i should pay £20 odd to get it unlocked if i can do it free.
any advice/tutorials on how to do it? bearing in mind its 3 UK? i didnt know if different unlocks work on different networks on this phone. im a noob with android, i have this and my hd7 (which i love, just wish it werent so restricted lol)
any help would be great, i know this device is getting on a bit but i still think its a great phone and would love to be able to use on o2 uk and tesco uk.
thanks a bunch!

Hi, a friend of mine just bought a sim-locked Lumia 820 from a guy in the UK (we're from Italy, he knows that it was sim-locked, don't ask me why he did it). It's locked by O2 and, as far as I know, it's impossible to unlock it without being the original owner with the O2 SIM and then asking the support to unlock it. However, he went to a tech store and they said that they can unlock it (by paying money obviously)... I told him that I don't think they can do it, but I'm not sure now... what do you think? Are there any other methods to unlock it, maybe free?
Not impossible to unlock, I have done it before many times and use http://www.mobileunlocked.com/
They can be expensive but their service is very good, Best of luck
really? how can they do that? Is there a keygen in which you put the IMEI or something like that?
You can get free unlock code for handset locked on uk O2 from us, Just login using facebook and writedown model and IMEI number (put in HIDE as key icon in editor for security reason) and thats all.
Just wait when thread is open again because is only one on time
