Unlock For Root?

Is it possible to Unlock a Rooted G1 and if so, how? I have a rooted G1 and I want to Unlock it and sell it to one of my friends so that I could buy the iPhone 3G. Also, does anybody know how much G1's go for? I don't want to rip him off but I don't want to get ripped back. I'm thinking $300-$400. The current G1 has a few scratches on it from being dropped but runs PERFECTLY and is all up-to-date... it even has CyanogenMOD 4.1.11.1 soo? Thanks...

i say sell it for double so that way when you buy the iphone, and regret selling your G1 you can have enough money to buy another G1... just my 2 pennies

Good idea... but I have to find out how to Unlock because he's on Sprint. And why would I regret selling the G1?

There's no way you could do that. Sprint doesn't use sim cards. But hey sell it to him for $763,987.99.

to unlock, call t-mobile if you have a plan through them. here's a better question, why wouldn't you regret selling your G1

It's pointless to waste your time or money unlocking it because sprint doesn't use sims and they are CDMA where the G1 HAS TO HAVE a sim and is GSM. You prolly will prefer a iphone though it is less work.

just sell your g1 on ebay for like 300 and get a refurb 3g 16gb from att for 99, just gotta get a 2yr contract (maybe u have a family member who needs a cell plan or a good friend/gf. except if they ship it with 3.1 firmware your ****ed cuz it cant be unlocked for another carrier unless you get one of those special sim cards on ebay.

Im on a SWAC account and the SWAC people told me via email that i would be able to activate the Epic 4g you buy one at full retail price ($500). Now i just need to find a store to sell one to me off contract.

Well at least this answers my question regarding whether I can buy it at launch day as well via the new ERP. So good news for me. It may not be much of a discount but any discount is better then none.

I would try and stay local man, if you can't drive to get it don't do it. No offense to anyone but I don't trust anyone on the internet and they shouldn't trust you.
As for activation, I was told that having CM on the phone can sometimes cause issues updating the PRL for the switch so you might have to odin it back to stock or flash a different ROM. I went to stock because I was worried about having it on a leaked build. However, with that said, the Evo I got was running a rom with a very custom boot animation (Fresh) and the rep mentioned how cool it looked and asked how he could get that.

or you can do it online.. by creating an account with sprint.
from what I know.. I dont see why it would matter what ROM you might have on an EVO. the ESN is all that the carrier needs.

I live 2hrs south, I could buy it or trade my daughters curve and throw in some money. PM if your interested.
Posting on Craigslist probably will give you some results also.

Ah, I wish you were in this Dallas area...I just paid for an Epic recently but I would've rather done a trade.

I have an add there as well, no traffic though

If u still have ur epic I'd drive 2/3 of the trip to trade u my Evo plus my extended seidio battery & the stock battery w/original box & cables. I'd be coming from OK but I was gonna be in Kansas in a couple weeks anyway.

I appreciate it, but I dont think I want a trade bad enough to drive a few hrs.

Hi,
I have a samsung vibrant which i like very much, but i am on a family plan, and we are upgrading all phones for a special plan discount, so I too have to upgrade (I bought my vibrant out of contract).
Would getting a vibrant 4g or one of the other new androids and selling this one be a good choice, or should i just get a wp7 and keep both?
edit: or maybe a defy?

Should I get a DZ?

I currently have a HTC Hero (GSM) and still have a more than 1.5 yrs on my contract and was wanting to get a newer phone since my Hero is getting annoying with random reboots and lag. I can potentially get a DZ for ~$200 and was wondering if it was still a good choice and can/will last the remainder of my contract without getting laggy/unreliable. I want a physical keyboard so it is either a DZ or BB Bold =\

Just thought i'd point that out ;D..
on topic, GO FOR IT! i was in the EXACT situation as you but 6 months ago. Given the same situation now, i'd still go for the DZ. I NEED a hardware keyboard and we don't have the mt4g up in the north. Though you probably could just order one in from the states, but the DZ is much better than the mt4g IMO. There is no other phone out there IMO that beats the DZ in terms of capability, design and inclusion of a hardware keyboard.. that is.. until the G3 comes out =p
side note: DO NOT get a BB.. ANY sort of BB.. NONE of their batteries last past a year and they tend to crap out just outside of the mfger's warranty period. All my friends who have BBs love it for BBM for the first 6 months, then it starts crapping out and i laugh in their faces because android is king.

if its DZ vs. BB Bold its not even a question to get the DZ. Definitely wouldn't pay over $200 for one this late in the game though, make sure you get a good deal.

Thank you all for the feedback I really appreciate it and now I really want this phone once again (I wanted it really badly when it first came out)

Well $200 is the best deal I've found so far (on Kijiji) the person says it is brand new since they got it from a warranty claim.

Yes, do it! I did the exact same thing as you in late June. I had my Hero (from TELUS) for about 14 months at that point, and picked up a DZ locally for just under $200, unlocked. Rooting it is a bit hairy compared to the Hero, but a good exercise to go through. My DZ was originally purchased from Bell, the guy I bought it from had it on his Rogers account, and now I'm using it with my TELUS SIM. I sold my Hero and accessories for $150, so net upgrade cost was $50 and I avoid having to renew my contract.

Funny, I upgraded to Desire Z also after having a HTC Hero for 1,5y
I would recommend DZ, I use it over a month now and i'm satisfied.
The only thing is of course the battery life, but it depends on how intensive usage you plan.
The keyboard is OK, only thing I miss is directional arrows (pretty uncomfortable to use the d-pad when you have hands on keyboard). Don't worry about the dedicated number row, it's not needed. You can write numbers with Fn key on with no problem.

Most of the private sellers on eBay/CL/Kijiji are pricing their secondhand DZs around $250 to $300 or so. I lucked out with an eBay seller who setup an auction with no reserve and no BIN, and not many people bidding on it, so I managed to get it for just under $200. Local pickup too, so I could verify it worked with my SIM.
There are a few DZs up for auction right now from Canadian sellers, sitting at around $100. Make sure you're not bidding on an "as-is" phone.
