Calendar eating the battery. - Desire HD General

Hey guys wondering if its just me...
My battery is only lasting about 5 hours. And when I check the usage it turns out the calendar has used 62 % of my battery.
Does anyone know why this might be? I have a logcat which shows it tries to connect and fails but I don't know what the logcat means.
Any help?

Calendar ? Thats strange . The only thing that drains these beasts is the 4.3" display.

You could try disabling automatic syncing?

actually the only thing draining these things is the 3g. switch it back to gsm only mode and you will get nearly double the usage out of the battery.
pity we cant use the 2g toggle yet that is only available with the cyoagen mode

We can
Cyanogen for the DHD is now in beta.

I had this problem a couple of days ago. Noticed that battery was draining much quicker than normal, checked battery status, and calendar had used over 50% of the battery and had over 4 hours of CPU time when normally it is only a few seconds. Rebooted the phone and it went away. No idea what caused it though.

My 3g is no problem. I guess cus I get very good 3g and hardly drops it doesn't drain my phone searching for 3g signals. It's the display on mine even tho I adjusted the brightness
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

Same here. Asked HTC with no success. They advised a hardresed... After hard reset my calender problem was gone...

I recommend installing Juice Defender. Cuts off data connections when phone is asleep, then opens for a moment every 15 mins to sync. Saves me TONS of battery.

I had exaclty same problem. All you need to do to fix this is clear data and cache for calendar, calendar storage and calendar widget.
Since I did that (4 days ago) my calendar app works great

Just cleared my calendar cache and stuff, having the same problem as you can see:

Though it does not always happen with my DHD, I have seen similiar results to the screenshot posted by muppet0000.

My calendar is constantly draining 20% of the battery. I really dont think this should be the case. No more suggestions though I'm afraid.

I have the same, but my battery life is good
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

Interestingly, it uses 20% of the battery if I ever use the calendar.

i seem to have found a solution. i have taken off the facebook sync to calender. this seems to have stopped the problem. my calender is again 1% of my battery consumption.

The HTC sense. I left the googlemail calendar only. However it has turned all back on at reboot and is doing it again...
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

I think mine's related to Facebook syncing contacts.
It seems to start syncing them, but just keeps going...
I've just cleared data on both Facebook apps. We'll see if it helps.

Hello, mine does the same, I am using SeePU and CPU is 100% usage from time to time for about 1-2 hours (I check it once in a while). Installed SystemPanel to check the process activity and it's com.htc.bgp which is using about 50% of the battery (16h25m of CPU usage).
When going to the Settings-->About phone-->Battery-->Battery Use, for a flash of a second the process com.htc.bgp appears on top, but then changes to "Calendar" and uses 40-50% of the battery.
I use as calendars the exchange e-mail and facebook (used only for birthday reminder sync). The problem appears also when I remove the exchange server so it seems this is caused by Facebook. Unfortunately, I can't find a solution for removing only the calendar (I can live without birthdays...) but still I need the contacts synced....
Any solution found so far?

Google Chrome - suspend_backoff kernel wakelock

Just a quick warning, since installing Google Chrome on my S3 I'm constantly having a suspend_backoff kernel wakelock. This wakelock isn't in BetterBatteryStats untill you launch Google Chrome and exit it. Turn of your screen for half an hour or so and check back in BetterBatteryStats, you now will see the suspend_backoff kernel wakelock for the whole screen off time. Taken me a whole Saturday to find out it was Google Chrome causing this issue, so just a quick warning. I don't know if you guys have the same issue, but it's worth a check because it kills your battery.
Yes agreed...
I too got this bug n after removing Google Chrome everything seems back to normal...
Thanks for sharing this information..
I had this exact same problem with Chrome Beta, but the latest version (the first non-beta) seems to be fixed. No more wakelock issues and battery drain.
I have the same issue with my SGS2.
Currently I'm on the latest google chrome, the non-beta one, and I still have this issue. Completely drained my battery overnight.
How do you guys know suspend_backoff is related to chrome?

A day of testing and deleting every app to exclude every possibility. Running Chrome results in the wakelock, deleted Chrome, ran every other app on my S3 and still no wakelock. Installed Chrome again, ran it and tada wakelock again.
Same here, battery starts reported suspend_backoff to have kept the device awake for 5h. Drained my battery overnight. In Samsung's taskmanager google chrome was the only active application. As soon as i killed it the wakelock was released.
Shouldn't Chrome automatically close itself?
No issues here. Still losing 4-5% overnight (wifi on)...
Oh I hope this is the source of my battery drain. So stoked on this phone except fo r the battery life!
Google Chrome is kind of crap now, the final version is pretty bad, not smooth and often fake hanging your phone.
Abandon it now...
Glad I found this thread. I was having the exact same issue on my galaxy s2. I could not figure it out until I found this thread. Thanks!
Yep I have now uninstalled Chrome to only leave the stock browser.
Battery was kind of fine but would be happier with extra juice now !
I will retry Chrome after it has been updated ...
Yep that was it!
Went from losing 30% overnight to 4% last night.
Thanks man!
Has anyone opened a bug report on this issue? I would but I can't find any actual proof that chrome is causing the wakelock (other than it goes away when it's uninstalled). Better battery stats doesn't show much other than "suspend_backoff".
not happen to me..with chrome installed

Plus it's happening with some and not with many.. However, I'm not installing Chrome again when there are so many other options available.. Never been a Chrome fan on Desktop too..

I think I have found the problem with chrome. If I don't set up book mark sync then I don't get the wakelock.
UPDATE:
After running tcpdump on my router I can see that my phone is contacting google every 4 minutes with chrome sync enabled. This is probably frequent enough that it causes suspend_backoff from preventing the phone from sleeping.

I don't have bookmark sync and still managed to get it. Once on my SGS2 and once on my Note.
Hasn't happened since on either device after I stopped running Chrome (still installed though).

Android system eating battery!

Hey guys, i got my Samsung S3 yesterday after having my S2x for 8 months. Really happy with the phone except for the battery life. My phone dropped 15% in 1 hour with screen on for 15 minute in Wi-Fi. This is the screen shot of my battery...

Can you explain why rooting eliminates the need for the functions "sync" provides?
Do a factory reset. Syncing has nothing to do with this issue. I sync three emails, facebook and twitter. I am easily getting 15-20 hours with over 2 hours of screen-on time.

Because you can use titanium back up for everything, I still use Google sync tho, the first days is the ones the takes the biggest hits after that I think is fine unless you keep updating contact and what not

If there was a way to sync Google contacts only when a contact has been added on the device or from the web, I'd turn off autosync. The random syncs seem to be my problem, but I'd be up the creek without them.
Don't think sync is the culprit - I have had android phones for quite some time now and they all been sync'ing same amount of data - no such drain. This is something SGS3 specific. There's a lot of modules listed under Android System. One thing I suspect is that I switched network to EvDo/CDMA/Something/WCDMA, which might be not a particular good idea. Turned back to CDMA only, since LTE is not available here just yet (waiting for this damn Sunday!) and will see if that improves the stats.

I had GPS toggled on the past 2 days and got horrible battery life and high Android System use.
Toggled it off today and it has been much better.
The weather app likes to use it. And I also noticed it firing on randomly. Just turn it off. Maybe it's the GLONASS support, but it sucks down battery particularly well.
I wish Google would separate out Location permissions from GPS permissions. Then in CM9/10 we could just uncheck GPS permissions.
Some apps I like general location, but they have no business using GPS.

Android OS using loads of battery.

Have noticed that android OS seems to be using loads of my battery, even more than the screen this morning which is a bit odd I think. Why is this? Have only had about 25 min screen on this morning so far.

Is your sync on? If yes, then that's what is causing the high drain of Android OS. I personally just choose which Google Services are allowed to sync to minimize the drain of syncing of the Android OS.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Yes sync is on but only gmail, contacts, chrome and calendar. And gmail is the only thing that's synced in last 4 hours... Surely that can't be responsible?? Gnow is off too.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
It's very likely caused by some app applying wake lock. I had a music player which was monitoring accelerometer for shake to change song feature. Then Android system started to drain a lot of battery. Battery life returned to normal after disabling that feature.
OK then. So is there a way I can see what process or app is causing that wake lock then, so I can disable it??

I had a similar problem with gmail a few days ago. I tried to send some pictures via gmail, but the content was to big to be sent. There wasn't a warning about this as it is in the web version. I deleted the drafts from the gmail app, while they tried to be sent. After this I left the phone on the desk and after a hour I noticed the bttery was about 20% down. So I force stoped gmail and cleared all data, after a restart all was on the right way.
I had some problems with the calender sync too, since I didn't use it I disabled the calender sync and so far no problems.
Don't worry about Android OS
Dianne Hackborn said:
Prior to 4.0, there were no wake locks computed for Android OS. It is now just the dumping ground for all of the time the device was awake that wasn't otherwise blamed on someone. So it is (total awake time) - (total app/system wake lock time) - (total screen on time).

If you are actually noticing tremendous battery drain and not just concerned with the high overall % of Android OS (which is NOT a problem) then get an app like Better Battery Stats and begin watching it.
Android OS = Apps running constantly in the background
When your phone is in deep sleep it shouldn't be draining any power, but it won't go to sleep if there's a app running even when the phone is not in use. If you're using the Facebook app, then that could be the main culprit for your battery power loss.

[Q] LG G2 Battery Drain

Hi,
I have had my G2 for a few months now and have taken all the usual battery saving measures. On a normal work day, I can leave work with approx 60% battery left. No sync and no apps running in the background. I use task manager regularly and Clean Master to keep my battery lasting as long as possible. However, for no discernible reason, my battery has started running down at an alarming rate today. When i look at my running apps the list covers almost every app i have whereas normally it might have just a couple. I haven't downloaded any new apps or updated anyand my OS is up to date. Am i the only one experiencing this?
Thanks
Assuming you've already tried setting Location Mode to Battery Saving instead of High Accuracy, check to see what's consuming most of the battery (Settings--> Battery; tap on the battery icon).

If the problem is not to do with wakelocks, then it is probably due to a badly calibrated battery. Download two apps: advanced battery calibrator and batterycalibration. Follow the instructions of batterycalibration first. Then the next day, charge your phone to 100 percent, then follow the instructions on advanced battery calibrator.
That should fix the battery life.
However, if it is wakelocks, download wakelock detector from the play store and screenshot the cpu wakelocks page please. Then, post the results on here.
Hi, I have location turned off completely. Battery use says my screen display but that is set either to auto or 50% today, I normally have it on full and last the day easily. It's been great up until today, for some reason all the apps are running in the background within seconds of killing them all off.

Hi, I'm going to look into wake locks, not heard of them before. What would cause my battery to go from being great yesterday to badly calibrated today?
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Free mobile app
Maybe some apps you started toda are draining lots of battery since there is always google/whatsapp or facebook and many other apps keeping synchronizing in the background. I dont know or you have facebook but i had that app and that drained alot of battery on my nexus 4.
Uninstall clean master and task manager, this apps draining a lot of energy. Make a hard reset after this.

Battery draining apps?

Hi all,
Like all of you i am conscious of my battery on the S10+.
Considering it is a 4,100mah battery you would think it would last a minimum a day and a half however with me i only get a days use out of the phone (by merely doing some browsing, youtube and whatsapping, nothing intensive). I've noticed that even if i use the phone considerable less in one day vs a heavy intensive day, i still get the same usage - around 24 hours.
I have turned off AOD, Location, have Sync on, FHD display.
In theory if im not using my phone, my phones battery should be depleting very slowly however this does not seem to be the case.
So to me it looks like something is draining my phone (i've had the S7, S9, with the same problem). I've reset my phone, not restored a back up and still the problem persists.
Looking at my battery usage recently i have seen Google maps being the highest used app (however i have location off and don't use the app and even have forced closed it).
Has anyone else noticed this? anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks for this - I have been following this thread quite closely but the reason why i made this separate thread is because i believe after all my personal testing it seems to be app related - Im thinking specific to google apps with all their background services.
Just thought if anyone had isolated this like me and if they had any fixes for this.

Wow that is actually amazing results - which google apps have you disabled and how (i.e. just uninstalled them?).
Also the only google app i only would like to keep is google maps - as i use this when driving here and there.
Last question - you basically have 10hours SoT over 2 days. If you used your phone less, do you believe your phone battery life would extend to 3/4 days even?
