I was wondering if there is a way to code against the soft keys so that they (or any combination of them) would wake the phone from sleep.
First off they would need to be active for input during sleep. Not sure if they are or not.
Second I would actually need to be able to code for the events.....is that something in the Android SDK or would it be part of some proprietary Samsung code?
Sorry for the newbness, and I know new threads arent highly tolerated in this forum, but it *is* a development question after all.
Thanks.

They are not, at least not with stock drivers / firmware. Just checked it for you on my device.
Try them and see. ;-P

Hi everybody:
I installed this RoM a few days ago, and I noticed the following two issues.
First: when I have the screen on, but the screen is locked, Im able to display the notification area. As the phone is locked, I think this shouldnt happen.
Second: when I access to a photo or a item from internet (a facebook photo or a doc previewed in gmail) if I want to turn the phone and change the orientation, the phone tries to load the item or the document again.
Thankyou for the ROM, great work guys!
Regards, Jorge!
PS: I tried to post these issues on the Development forum, but I have no rights to post there.

1) This is an ICS feature. Unless you have a PIN or some other type of security feature to access the phone, the notification area can be opened from the lockscreen.
2) New to me. No idea.
Always good to get a discussion rolling. I've found the test builds to work well

Indeed the first one is a feature built in, apps like WidgetLocker let you configure that so you can disable it, but on stock lockscreen that's just how it goes..
As for the other part, that just basic stuff, this is taken from developer.android.com, the activities section:
Handling configuration changes
Some device configurations can change during runtime (such as screen orientation, keyboard availability, and language). When such a change occurs, Android recreates the running activity (the system calls onDestroy(), then immediately calls onCreate()). This behavior is designed to help your application adapt to new configurations by automatically reloading your application with alternative resources that you've provided (such as different layouts for different screen orientations and sizes).
If you properly design your activity to handle a restart due to a screen orientation change and restore the activity state as described above, your application will be more resilient to other unexpected events in the activity lifecycle.

It is a bit annoying, but every app on all Android versions does this, or is atleast supposed to. Also, that doesn't really have anything to do with the ROM as such, more with the design of applications.
are there any new bugs with beta 4? or should i wait for the "not beta" ROMS?
Hello guys, Skelly here, completely new guy on xda-dev. I've only been flashing ROMs since last week so pardon me if my Q's seem a bit noobish or if they have already been answered. First of all, i just want to say that 0.0's JB CM10 port is pretty amazing. I guess credit would also go to nk111. I have had it installed since early this night so i may have just missed these somewhere.
ROM link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784629
But #1: When i lock my phone and the screen is off, pressing my trackpad does not wake it anymore. Only pressing the power button would wake it. I cant really find any kind of option anywhere in the settings to fix this (or like i said, maybe i just missed it), so if anyone can help me out with this that would be great.
#2: Is there any way to get the default mail app from garleest's Glacier One ROM found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852410 and make it work on the JB ROM i mentioned earlier?
#3: I'm sure I missed this in the ROM thread but is there any other kernel I can use to get around the issue where the battery tends to get really hot?
2. No, this is Sense app and it won't work without Sense framework.
1) There is no way to get trackpad to wake the device, this is a sense only feature
3) Nope.
Flash this fix for trackpad wake and let us know. Remember to back up before flashing.

Have you tried googling it?
Hint hint "how to enable developer options in 4.2"
Also next time post questions in the questions and answers. Better yet SEARCH before you post, that is after all part of the forum rules.

have you tried posting your question in q&a since you arent developing anything? this is a development forum. anyways, go to about tablet, tap the build number 7 times in a row. your developer options will reappear. you could have saved yourself some trouble factory resetting if you just searched.

Hilarious but some people come here for informed help mid panic. I am of the mindset to find the answer myself first and then ask like most but I also know the panic feeling.
Sent from my Nexus 7 usi...oh god! What happened? All I did was root!!
I had the same problem and almost panicked myself. All you have to do is open settings and push "about phone". Then hit the "build version" button 7 times and you will have developer status. I saw it on this site but can't remember where. Good luck and happy hacking!
hi to all, it's my first time to be here! me and a friend of mine have joined a small competition that require for participating -of cours- to develop an android app! also we are a newbies in java developement and it's our first experience in android world, so my question is: is there a java or linux or c++ code that can power on an android device at a specific time? I googled a lot of time and i didn't got an answer. Please any suggestion or help? And sorry foy my bad english.
No definitely not!*
Because, you're app is only running if android has booted, so there is now way for your app.
The build-in Clock-App can't do it, too!
The only think you can do is, to unlock a booted phone.
Regards

*There could maybe a way, for a specific phone, which has the hardware, which is needed and a SDK for developers for that hardware. But I don't know anyone.
Thanks for the replay. You speaked about the build-in clock app can't do it? it's indeed a reality! But why? unlike the android phone, when you set the alarm clock app in a Nokia phone and you shutdown the device.. the app is able to power on and boot the os!! So why it's not possible on android! is it something related to android architectur (layers)? maybe the hardware? can someone give me an explanation please.
Yes, I suppose you'll need specific hardware support. If the phone is really off, there needs to be some kind of timer that is still running, which can turn the phone on, so it can boot again, and then run some app for the alarm or whatnot.
Apparently Blackberry phones support it too, perhaps others as well, but it's not a common feature on Android phones.
Thanks you for the info.

there are many apps available on play store search and get it all working ....
Have a nice day
I dont know how to but its possible in Android because if you got to Settings --> Accessibility --> There is an option to turn on and off the device... So there must be a turn around for the same...
I also have a similar kind of Idea for my next app but dont know how to run my app when the phone is off or how to switch it on...
Maybe in rooted devices...Please let me know if you get anything similar.
Thanks
Hi... I've searched the internet and forums for this and came up with nothing... My frustration is that it seems every time I pick up my phone to use it, it starts updating apps... I know I can turn off automatic updates but I know I will rarely manually update... I also have it set over wifi only... my question is: is there a way, or a third party app, to control the time when updates can occur? I would prefer them to occur while I'm asleep and not using my phone. I have a rooted phone on a custom rom. I've read theories about using a tasker and greenify but there were no details. Thanks in advance.
