Problem rooting :( - Fascinate General

Ok, I've rooted my phone before but had to reset the phone to all stock because I downloaded an impaled version of angry birds to get the ads off and make the game run smoother....never doin that again lol. Anyway, I tried using the one click root like I did the 1st time but its not findin my phone. I think it says something like it does not recognize adf internally or externally. I downloaded the right samsung driver, put the debugging on, and used the usb cord that came wit the phone and it still doesn't work. I already have CWM (I pushed it on the phone wit odin) and have the stock kernel. now I just need root again

You would have to root and have CWrecovery. It won't install the packages any other way.
I dont really wanna root cux then i wont have insurance, plus the possibility of bricking
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
It's virtually impossible to brick the phone. The only real way to brick it is if you flash something from ODIN with the Phone button instead of PDA. Rooting it shouldn't affect your insurance at all either, because as long as the phone boots, you can restore it completely to stock with ODIN.
Is odin the computer software? Cuz i cant get the software to download to my laptop

[Q] Questions on themes and deodexing

Ok I've managed to get my device rooted and overclocked, I have Bootstrapper and Clockwork Mod. My question is am I deodexed and am I ready for themes now
No, you have three options:
1) Manually deodex your phone
2) Install a Rom that's already been deodexed
3) Download and flash your stock files for deodexed ones
Ok how do I know which themes have been deodexed already and how do I know what apex I have

If you browse the droid x themes and apps section of xda, the theme creator will tell you what has been deodexed or not. I know the 928 blackglass theme is deodexed already but I do not know of many themes that come deodexed. Of you wish to deodex your phone, search google for "xUltimate 2.2 Manually deodex your phone".
As for apex...this is a custom ROM, so this will not be running on yout phone yet, you would have to install it of this is the ROM you wish to run.

I have a feeling that after I deodex I'm still not done ...lol I actually tried loading the DXred theme the other day and it worked ..then I noticed that the dialer button didn't work then it killed my service ...ya think that happened because I was not properly deodexed?

Probably. After you deodex you should be ready for loading up a custom theme. Be sure to read any instructions specific to the theme you apply.

Ah, ok. Xultimate is an application that runs on your computer, not your phone.
If you have your phone rooted, and know how to use the Droid X bootstrap to install .zip files, then download this file:
http://www.mediafire.com/?gvvgnum0uma2huk
Run this with Droid X bootstrap and you will be deodexed, and not need xultimate.
Ok after a lot of research I finally understand the whole thing.....most if the themes I see on line you need a custom ROM to run them which of course I'm running stock therefore I have to choose from the stock ones which is cool. I found a pretty cool one called Executive Red and it's working perfect. Thank you very much for all of your help

No problem. Glad to hear you got where you want to be. I would recommend just doing some research, and when you feel like you're comfortable, try out one of the custom ROMs. I regret not jumping into one a little sooner. They really have a great advantage many times.
Look into themes from Bignadad. He does themes for liberty, rubix, and did one for the original 2.3.15 OTA. Check him out on twitter as well, and you can keep up on what he is working on. I would recommend Bignadad by far, he is in my opinion the most thorough with his themes, and they always look amazing.
I know you didn't think I was finished ....lol ok here we go...since i've rooted seems that I have access to the 3G hot spot I tried connecting to my lap top it appeared to connect but did not work ....any idea?

You have to pay for the hotspot app to work unless you perform another modification such as the one that team black hat released to use it for free.

Ok so even though my lap top sees it and says it's connected they (Verizon )can still block you? And how do I get this mod from team black hat

Yes, it will say its there, but you cannot use it without paying (kinda). There is another mod, where you start the program, then put the plane in airplane mode, then disable airplane mode and it works as if you had subscribed to the service...
or there is the tbh hack.. which they say is unethical, and they don't condone, so please read the whole page before using this... just a disclaimer.

You basically download a .zip and flash it in clockworkmod recovery.

Are you on di18 or are you on dk28? cuz if your on di18 z4root should work. If your on dk28 than yeah you need a pc with the one click root is so simple. Its just that you do 1 click and it does it thing really fast.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Yeah, Z4Root worked for me on stock Eclair. It just took a couple attempts for it to finally work. The first time it just sat there forever, so I pulled the battery, booted back up, tried again then it worked.

Ok I just got a new vibrant from tmo since mine gave out a few days ago. Its fresh out the box and im trying to get the CW rom manager app back so I can proceed to flash ICS passion on this bad boy,but the free version is not in tge market, the only one I can find is tge paid "key" version which I have purchased but cant use without the free one.can someone send me the .apk or explain why it isnt in the market pretty please?

Problem parsing package :/ thanks though
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Just pm'd you with advice and the reason they pulled it from the market is cuz eclair 2.1 is not supported anymore. I used to use odin to go back to stock 2.1 and then i had a Overstock kernel that I used though odin and it would give me cmw .The only thing is that u need to dl to ypur phone the rom u want first, odin overstock kernel .tar (i think)
Download this update.zip file to flash CWR.
Exel, your everywhere man. Ok I have been spoiled by this app in the past, how do I flash it lol ? I went to recovery, but there are only like 3options and flashing a zip is not one of them... I felt like I knew my way around the vibrant until today. I feel like a total noob
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I think it's called reinstall packages in the recovery and it might take a few tries for it to stick
Ill try it a few more times, place the file in DCIM correct?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
No onto SD..
Edit have u tried rom toolbox...
Also I pm d u with more advice
That may have been the problem on my 1st try. But SD seems to be the external
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
No u have internal and external sds.unless u have a Vib 4g which only has external. Internal is where u have all ur files e.g. dcim, android ,data, download, etc.paste it onto that so u have a file called update.zip along with all those before mentioned files
---------- Post added at 02:33 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:31 AM ----------
Did you dl kernel flasher yet from the market. Make sure you're rooted 1st
Just got the kernel flasher, use it to flash the update.zip?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Now dl cm7 build #182 completely on ur phone after that seach for" Overstock kernel zip"preferably on xda and dl that yhen open k.f. app and flash kernel, wait until it completes the ext4 partition (like 5 min) ,pull battery go into recovery which should be now green letters and install cm7
And then once I have cm7 I should be able to find cw manager on market... Wise sir, good workaround.

Make sure you're rooted.Yes.After you flash cm7 then you're good to flash sum ICS goodness . Use one cosmic fyi..Just be prepared if something goes wrong on K.F.(Odin)
MAKE SURE u have a 3g not a 4g Vibrant cuz T-Mobile has discontinued the 3g.Is the back of the phone black or grey?
Ok yes I rooted using an old version of the ryan za oclf app that still has tge root option, has always worked on previous phones and yeah its a 3g the back is black.

Samsung continuum update problems

So I recently got a Samsung continuum from a flea market, and I am using it without activating it through Verizon. It is currently running android 2.1. When I try and update it, it gets stuck on the loading screen. Does it need to have cell service to update? Can I manually update it by flashing a rom, ext? Thanks.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Yes, it would need to be activated to get any Over The Air updates. There are some roms that you can flash, but won't guarantee that any of the links will work. Verizon never updated past Froyo, but there was a Gingerbread leak that worked well, I'm using it on my unactivated Continuum.

All still saved on my computer since I didn't bother erasing them. o: So if anything PM me or I'll just upload what you need to here.
