I have a Galaxy S from Three (Ireland) and I want to unbrand this sucker. I'm sick of waiting for Froyo to be released (Three will not confirm nor will they give a release date) and even when it is updated, Im sure it will slow my phone down like it has done with the 2.1 Eclair. Im fairly new to this and don't know where to start. Help would be much appreciated
what do you want to remove from the phone?
unless it shows a 3 logo at boot up, and uses a 3 custom user interface theme
i don't think it is branded at all
Hi AllGamer,
This is more or less what I want to do. I has loads of 3 crap on it. I have played with Galaxys that arent branded (dont have operator crap loaded on) and they seem to run a lot smoother. If I unbrand this, will it make it easier to upgrade to the stock froyo 2.2 released by samsung? any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Yeah I have the same problem, my phone is on 3 as well. I had a nokia n95 about 3 years ago ago and 3 never released an update where vodaphone had around 6 or 7. I'm looking to debrand mine as well for same reasons. You can't surf the net using wireless as you have you go through the 3 network and this is the same for most apps. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Well I've read the three update is coming very soon to the UK, so never fear. Its Ireland thats the problem. They emailed a lad on an irish forum and told him they dont know when it will be ready in Ireland anyone able to help?
I 'unbranded' my phone from Optus in Australia, I rooted it and downloaded Titanium Backup, from there you can choose to freeze and eventually unfreeze programs. Freezing the program removes it from your Applications, unfreezing it returns it.
Not sure if that's what you were asking!
If you want to completely debrand it I suggest you just flash a new firmware.
Using Odin3, flash XWJM8 and then if you want Froyo right away flash JPO. You will see how smooth that is

Which should I go for Ireland?
OXA *Multi CSC* (for France, Germany, Italy, Poland, UK, UK & Ireland)
OXX *Multi CSC* (for Austria, Baltic, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Switzerland)
I am not sure there. Don't think you can go either way though..

I would not do that, TMN versions are heavly branded...
I would bet that most TMN users in the forum have installed an unofficial ROM just to clean all the branding.

Well, when I updated my firmware to DDJG4 here in India via kies, all my data on the phone memory was wiped clean, without any prior information. Yeah, IMO, having a backup ready would be wise irrespective of whether this happens to you or not..
is there a froyo release available for TMN now? my phone is not TMN and I'm not from Portugal, but somehow, my phone upgraded from JM1 to TMN JM8
Hi folks,
Please let us know it the froyo update appears in your kies and nobody reported it from ypour country so far to make it possible for other (less and less patiently) waiting fellow SGSers to follow the progress of the update country by country. It would be a nice extra to also report your Product code (can be found by searching the registry starting at HKCU/Software/Samsung/Kies/DeviceDB for ProductCode)
Thanks in advance for everyone who cares enough to make easier the already too long waiting process for us.
Positive feedback(s) so far:
Sweden
Norway
Denmark
Finland
Iceland
UK O2 (?)
Germany
Netherlands
Please try to avoid "no update here" post if it's possible as they are only noise an make updating first post to reflect the current status a lot harder. Thanks.
Here you can find the info about how to fool your KIES to dowload the scandinavian update (thanks dakine)
I would also like to know this. I just wrote a post at Androinica about the update, so please feel free to share your comments there as well
Android 2.2 Froyo for Samsung Galaxy S has finally arrived
According to this post, it is Denmark, Norway, and Sweden confirmed so far.
Is there a way for us to manipulate Kies into downloading the update?
Ok I have found that Kies will now let me upgrade using the following:
ProductCode: XEE
HIDSWVER: I9000XXJF3/I9000SWC/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3
That's fine, but what your product code will be after the upgrade?
Not sure, that code is for Sweden.
I just realised I still have voodoo lagfix installed. Anyone know if this will cause problems?
Still nothing for Germany, checked few minutes ago.

You HAVE to disable it, the new firmware will not be able to recognize the EXT4 partitioning system! follow this guide on voodoo lagfix webpage:
http://project-voodoo.org/documentation
In this way you will revert back to RFS. As soon as voodoo lagfix will be ready for Froyo (not yet) you'll be able to install over the previous one that is still disabled.
I have just disabled it now.

Excuse me. If I update Kies with i9000, must I uninstall Lag Fix?
Hey folks, let me start by saying that I have searched and read threads on this subject, but alas I just did not understand them.
So please, if somone wouldn't mind answering my questions with simple answers, I'd really appreciate it.
Firstly, a while back I 'rooted' my phone with the 'Exploid One Click .apk Root (Latest v.1.08 30 Aug. 2010)' method and all was well.
However I ran the update service on my pc recently (looking for 2.1 DOH!) and it gave me an update...which left my phone unrooted but with the latest 'RBA026' build number. I panicked and just did the exploid root method again and restored my phone with titanium backup.
So my first question is, is the firmware I have now unbranded/generic or does the root effect the firmware?
If it is not unbranded/generic, which is the easiest method to achieve this?
And, lastly if I have an unbranded/generic firmware..can I still get the 2.1 update with SEUS? (if not how would I get it)
I understand this will probably frustrate some people as all the information is probably already contained in the forum..but like I said I just couldn't get my head round it.
I'd really appreciate any help that anyone could give.
Regards
TD

WOW ddn't even know I could do that...lol
The screen shows the following:
Model - x10i
Country - UK
Brand - Customized
Thats what I have and yes its generic. In theory our handsets will be one of the first to get the 2.1 update
We'll need to re-root obviously though.
Oh and updating through SEUS will work fine also!

Since the topic is already here.. I just wanna know if my phone is branded or not (didn't find a SINGLE topic explaining what means what)
So:
Model: x10i
Country: Central Europe 3
Brand: Customized CE3
IMO that shouldn't be branded, should it?
Are you on R2BA026? I would expect that to be generic yes.
I debranded mine some time back, this is what mine is showing
(FW version is R2BA026 GENERIC)
Model: x10i
Country: Generic GLOBAL
Brand: Generic

Country uk
Brand 3

Grrr. I have had my ATT X10a rooted for a while, and SEUS/PC Companion/Update always says I have the latest firmware.
It's been 30 days for me, I want to put in generic X10a NAM firmware so I don't have to deal with any changes SE/ATT may have made to make it harder to root/debrand.
I've dealt with Davinci in the past to debrand my SE Java based phones, just never with an android phone. I've gone over the threads here, but 99% deal with X10i and X10a Rogers and X10a AT&T firmware seems to be a bit different and forced the SEUS update that prevents the substitute files exploit.
Even the substitute files exploit seems to require that you actually update date twice, once with the 'current' firmware that you got, and then again with the swapped two files.
The Rooting scheme that is often pointed to, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=717949 is confusing for X10a. I've downloaded the files mentioned, and the extra x10a files. But to me, the flash rom is in the X10i download and there is what looks like a partial flash in the step4cmd in the the fixes something and makes it a x10a? Is this correct? The only X10a/i difference is the 10K file?
I wish someone would rewrite the directions specifically for the "I" and "A" versions so there is no confusing language like, '#5 do Step 4' and there was only a single flash required. (I particularly find this funny since step 4 and 5 were eliminated for the "I" version.)
Whatever happened to the "update" file on the SD card method? There was a CRC error problem? I wish I could find a NAM rom that just had to wrapped/renamed to Update and put on the SD card. Reboot, wait a bit and you're gold.
yeah. i just did. i posted because i followed that guide, and now on 026. it's pretty easy. just make sure to look thru the troubleshooting threads listed in that post for help.
Is the gingerbread update available yet, on Orange? I tried checking on kies a few days ago and it said I have the latest version, but I have froyo 2.2.1
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
In a word, no. Samsung withdrew the Gingerbread updates due to some fault or whatever so the only ones available are the JV1, JVK, JVB and JVA Roms which are floating around at the moment but these are primarily for unlocked devices so I don't know what effect they may have on your phone if its locked to Orange
So when will we get it?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Why don't you ask Orange?
So when will we get it?
Very simple answer
After Samsung release it and Orange customise or sodomize it and Orange upload it to the Kies server .
More complicated answer Ask Samsung .
jje
It will be weeks after the stock unmolested firmware is re-released. Im on orange too and debranded mine because I got bored waiting for Oranges 2.2. It is still sim locked though (hasnt caused any problems)If you decide to try this make sure youre 3 button download/recovery is working though-mine wasnt originally-but is now thanks to the good peeps here.
If you look in the forums you will find a free network unlock solution too.
After flashing all the Gingerbread roms though I find I keep returning to Darky's 9.5 (Froyo based).
If you do decide to de-brand & network unlock you should also consider changing you CSC to XEU too that way kies will check for the official European i9000 rom instead of a network branded version.
You can always re-flash back to a carrier rom should you want to though.
You can always re-flash back to a carrier rom should you want to though
But where would you get one from ?.
That seems to be a problem 99% do not save carrier rom and few are available elsewhere .

Just like me I to hunt around for "t-mobile galaxy s odin" and sure enough google provided me with a link to a t-mobile 2.2.1 rom flashable via odin, failing that you could always use fwspoof to emulate a older carrier from and have kies re-install the carrier update.
Just thought you might have a secret stock .

Orange delayed and delayed 2.2 for the SGS, it was supposed to come out in November last year and ended up being January for the official release. This was months and months after the official unlocked versions came out, so I wouldn't hold your breath on it being a quick release.
That said 2.2.1 seemed to come out relatively quickly compared to 2.2
Fingers crossed they get bored modding all these releases with their own crap and have it as downloads from the market...as it should be.
I may have missed it in the Orange Terms and conditions, but a while a go when I read through them, I couldn't spot anything about modding phones making warranties being void (although I'd double check), so you could always try a custom ROM if you can't wait.
Logicalstep
I hooked up my galaxy S to Kies yesterday morning and was offered 2.3.3 from Orange, Installed it and all went well ... until I tried using the 3G instead of wireless, I cant access 3G at all. anyone else having this issue?

its not a re rolout - they use old builds with some branding and new modems

Well from my limited knowledge, the carrier takes the update and adds their own stuff to the update. The unbranded updates from samsung come out pretty fast.
If it's your carrier you're waiting on, maybe theyre just taking their time
While I did get my phone from the carrier it's not branded. I have put other carrier sims in it and it worked fine. Think they forgot to brand my on.
Anyway with that in mind, it must be unbranded.
