[Q]Advice on X2 - XPERIA X2 General

Hi, I am an Android user(HTC Desire that is) and my cousin is selling her Xperia X2.
I played a bit with it and damn it is so slow so much that i got tired playing with it. But one thing i want it from it, the front camera(damn Desire dont have this, why!!!!).
So i have a few questions regarding this cuz i might buy it from her just for that video call function.
1) the video call is really functioning right? cuz my main point of getting it cuz of that, so i dont want to waste my money if it is not going to work properly.
2) can i have the windows phone 7 on this? if yes, whats the procedure of it?
3) How do i know if her X2 have MR1 or MR2?
3a) How do i get to MR2 if she have MR1?
4) Any other issues i should worry about? and is there any fixes, patches to overcome it?
5) Most importantly, I will mainly use it for messages, and calls and most priority goes for video call. and thats it. cuz i have my android phone for everything else.
Thanks!

=)
as far as i knw..u cant have wm7 on x2...just update using sony ericson update service..

thanks for the reply. any clue on other questions above? i dont mind if no wp7, just that it'll be great if its possible.

For video calls you need the latest firmware upgrade.
2) can i have the windows phone 7 on this? if yes, whats the procedure of it?
Windows Phone 7 will no run on any existing Windows Mobile devices.
3) How do i know if her X2 have MR1 or MR2?
Start > Settings > System > Device information?
The official way is to use the Update Service software regularly to check for new firmware regularly.
3a) How do i get to MR2 if she have MR1?
sonyericsson.com/update
4) Any other issues i should worry about? and is there any fixes, patches to overcome it?
Memory card corruption .etc - more can be found on the forum

It should be OK.

THanks for the reply mate!

You will cry after buying this phone. As I already changeto x10 after sell my x2. Sometimes it will restart by itself while making call. And receiving text too.

Actually I have X2 and recently got X10.
And I think I will sell my X10.
Mainly because of keyboard and need of logging in to Google to use Calendar.
Some things on WM 6.5.3 are still better like C & P.
And Android 2.1 does not support Flash, X2 does!

i wont cry. i have my htc desire with me. this one is mainly for video call only. strictly for that.

Hello doministry, still stuck with x2? firstly I missed the keyboard and video call too. But now not anymore. I have other alternative. Actually I just bought x2 again from my friend just for experimenting uninstall the slideview (read from x2 thread) can improve the stability. But for me just the same. Always freeze and slow. Oh yes. And no push email.
But I have to spend more money for my phone bill because of the internet connection of my x10. So sad.
Now my x2 is only for my nicest collection.
For me, wm 6.1 is better. Any idea to downgrade to wm 6.1 like x1? Thanks senior.

Just to set things straight ... the X2 (at least with MR2 -- not sure about MR1) has push mail ... used at my last job and it worked well. When you use an exchange server for the email and turn on Microsoft Push Mail (in the manage connections screen) it works ... uses more battery though ...
Also, I disabled Slideview -- much better battery life -- and I never used it.
I also use the overclocking ... been using it since September without any problems ... and the phone is very stable (only problem that I have is that is will freeze up when playing certain mp4 videos -- CorePalyer plays them but without video).
I am very happy with the X2 ...

Did you set the notifications for MMS and text messages? There are under the sounds and notifications ... notifications tab ...
I have mine set for a sound / visual / and vibration ... and it works and notifies me when messages come in ... but I have seen on the forums that some have the notifications go away after some time ... but mine seem to work ...

It rings just part of the music and stop.it resume after we turn on the screen.

Is X10 stable in you opinion?

Sure stable. Never freeze, smooth. Browsing, chatting, messeging, calling, everything is so stable and smooth. And fast too.

Vogue-HTC build, based on Cupcake, pulled..

I've pulled this build. I stand behind google's request to not distribute builds including closed source applications.
what is advanced launcher?
it allows you to hide apps you don't use from your launcher drawer by dragging them to the trash.
Hey mssmison,
Your post says 320x240 res, but the decription on Vogue android says 320x480
Booted up using usual 320x480 fine, data and market works, able to place a call.
nice theme and pretty damn fast so far also.

actually, try 320x427 with lcd.density=160 for a correct aspect ratio while allowing the usage of all the apps.
very, very nice release indeed.
- using 320x427 with lcd.density=160 for correct aspect ratio while not breaking any apps (such as keyboard).
- very fast call notification (within 1st ringtone)
- wifi working
- data working
- market working
- very fast
- left some extra stuff, such as the rogers stuff (my account, ringback, ringtones), teeter, :-/
I set to 320x427 with lcd 160 but some apps like the music app is still getting cut off.
Also on the market I am only seein a few apps and games, not the full market.
I had this same issue with the 1.6 donut also.

it works with basefiles-20090919-v2
delete/rename any current data.img
1st boot takes a little longer (5 minutes?) displaying only a black screen in the process. just wait...

On the google Code page you will find a new bundle for the newly updated HTC cupcake build.
Includes advanced launcher, latest messaging app as well as many others.
You must make sure your res is 320x240 to boot. again the old rootfs won't work, this one is updated. I'll update the bundle later.

Hi
What a wonderfull build.. Thanks a lot to all who have developed this. Andriod definetly is far better than WM (for me atleast)
Was able to install the rogers build. It took sometime. I used the rootfs.img that came with the zip but didnt work on my tilt. So i used the one from the basefiles-v2 and that did the trick. It took sometime to load initially but did work.
Things that worked
1. Wifi and Market. Was able to download applications
2. Browser working
3. Calling and SMS worked (though with slight issues)
4. GPS working (recoginzed in google maps and Sportyhal)
5. Import contacts worked
6. Music with good clear sound
7. Great speed
Things that didnt work or had issues
1. You tube connect and i can listen to music but can only see the first image that it download and not the whole video
2. For some reason I cannot confirm at this time the calling was going thru but wasnt able to hear the call answer
3. All new icons for shopping, Home, My account give errors
4. Standard things not working - Camera, bluetooth, speakerphone on call, the calibaration application always force closes.
Not tried data connection as I dont use it
Can anyone help me out with anyof the above issue or is this something everyone is facing.....
I will continue to use this version instead of WM ...
Thanks

May be tilt related with the calling. I use this as my daily build and haven't experieinced these issue. The rogers apps that are there are only for rogers network users. I had a request to leave them so I did. You can always hide them with the advanced launcher, just drag them to the trash.

Microsft Myphone Sync

Hi All,
I am going to be getting my new HD2 tomorrow (CANT WAIT) at the moment I have a TP2 and need something faster thing drives me mad sometimes.. Anyway back to the point I am going to be using Microsoft Myphone to sync everything up and then back down to my HD2 and basically wanted to know if this will work well, any problems experienced from other users etc.
Thanks in advance,
Charles Hurst.
I moved from a diamond to an hd2. the process was slow because I moved all my photos that way - but all my contacts, messages etc got moved. Apps and settings won't go though.

Yes mate - I literally could not recommend it more!
I went from a Touch HD to the HD2 and I'd already been using MyPhone as an automated backup service for a couple of months, so I was confident it would work.
It's also handy for when I flash new ROMs onto the phone. I have it backup everything except the storage card, and it works a treat.
I assume you'll still have the TP2 in case you do anything wrong, so you won't actually lose anything. It's real easy anyway, so I doubt that.
As mentioned above though, it obviously doesn't do apps. Also, if you can, connect to Wifi before doing it, as it can take a while 1st time.
Other than that, welcome to the fun that is HD2
Yes, I second the "use wifi". You may also find it time out now and again, I did. But it picks up where it left off.
If you're near a PC though I recommend that for pictures and such like, and using MyPhone for contacts, messages, notes blah de blah
Great
Great many thanks guys, only worry I have is that it does not put my text back correctly with each contact as I had this before with SBS backup (I think its called) all the text were just everywhere. Guess I will wait and see, cant wait to show off my HD2 to mates who have Iphones LOL
Thanks again,
Charles Hurst.
I showed my HD2 to a mate who has an iPhone, and his exact words were:
"Jesus, I thought MY phone was big!"
It's a lovely weighty size
Anyway, MyPhone shouldn't garble your contacts at all - same format in both phones!
Just syncing as we speak *fingers crossed* looks good so far though, the phone seems amazing and so fast its f**king incredible compared to using the TP2...
One thing thats odd it never come with facebook app on Vodafone but cant be hard to find.

Depending on what you want to do with facebook, you may not need it. Using the default integration with Sense, you can link your contacts to facebook so you can see their status updates (you have to actually go to the page where these are shown though - there's no notifications), set your own status, upload photos, browse friends' albums.
If you want more, there's always the facebook app, and http://m.facebook.com which is a nice lite version of the site.

Google Talk on TMOUS HD2.

I have a question to all HD2 TMOUS owners.
It's been stated on the HTC web site that this version of phone will have Google Talk™ software. Can anybody confirm that this is true. And the second thing I would like to know if this software works similar like on Nokia N900. I have friend of mine who has N900 and we just checked that Nokia IM soft can use front cam and you can make a video call. So attractive feature. I was calling him from my home pc via GTalk web, he was using his mobile phone on WIFI and I could see him. Can we perform that on HD2 as well?

And I think it uses your SMS quota, so sucks if you don't have a plan.
And the application is horrible. I started it, and the status of the people on my list never changed, I never got IMs unless I initiated them myself, and it seemed like the application would never reboot itself, even with a cold reboot of the phone. So it always said I had 2 conversations going and the people were offline, when they were clearly online on my PC. So far I've been pretty unimpressed with the software on the HD2 and have called TMobile about returning the phone. It's such a shame too, its a damn sexy phone and so fast... I'd just rather have android.

I'm with you on this one, but don't have an equivalent android phone to upgrade to. I don't want what t-mobile considers to be the top of the line, and I can't afford the nexus one.
All I need is fully functioning GMAIL and GTALK and windows mobile can't supply either out the box. I don't want to have to pay for apps to do something everyone else gets for free. I'd be happy with GTALK if it just told me when I get an IM. That's right, I don't get any notifications from it at all . If I'm on the phone I'll hear a beep but don't get anything on the status bar. I looked at it today and noticed I had 2 new chats that I missed. And don't even attempt to switch between 2 chat windows...the first window is never selectable

You can't. Need to wait for root
If you can handle it I found a Factory reset seemed to stop Moxier being active and I got almost instant results.
See the Power Use thread for more.
You can't uninstall from the phone - not sure if you can just delete the thing from the SD card though - it may cause it to fall over...
Hi all, thought I'd ask SE for help on this one.. and this was the response.. I'm going to try it and see...
Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson support centre regarding your Sony Ericsson X10 handset.
We can confirm that you can not remove any application that came preinstalled on the Sony Ericsson X10 handset. Therefore Moxier mail can not be removed. We have however included some steps which should enable Moxier from starting up when not in use.
1. Go into your menu and select settings.
2. Select Applications
3. Select manage applications
4. Select Moxier mail
5. Select clear data then select Ok
6. Then go down to Coontrols and select Force stop
This should disable the Moxier mail.
Kind Regards,
Emma Anderson
Sony Ericsson UK Customer Services
I click on Force Stop and nothing happens ...
@ SE...
I don't think anything will visibly happen.. it's more about what shouldn't happen!! ie Moxier starting up on its own!!
Ok, then SE needs an UI (or is UX) guy there to tell them about the feedback the user should receive after taking an action ...
SE support really are hopeless... I've just tried this (with startup auditor switched off.) and guess what.... moxier started up when I switched the wifi off... and so I killed it.. and it started again when I switched the wifi on.. back to startup auditor I think!
Startup Auditor won't help with that because Moxier Mail starts up when Data Connection Change event fires (ie whenever you switch from 3G to WiFi or vice versa), and that's an event SA doesn't autokill apps at.
I've alerted the developer and he's going to add it back in so long as it doesn't cause issues.
Hi guys,
New poster here but have been lurking for a while. I too have been having the same issues as others with Moxier Mail so got on to SE Support to help. My first email was greeted with the same response as one of the posters above so I responded with the following:
Me said:
Hi Emma,
Thank you for your prompt response but I regret to inform you that the method you suggested for disabling the moxier application only works for 5-10 seconds until another data connection is made or another call is received. This ridiculous piece of software is ruining what should be an amazing phone. Whoever thought it a good idea to let it run the way it does should be given a stern talking to at the very least.
If you or anyone else in your technical department have any suggestions on how to get rid of moxier to make my phone last longer than 8 hours without needing a charge, even though I haven't used it, then I would be greatly appreciative.
Kind regards

I should have said in my last email, but I don't have moxier set up at all. I have entered no settings in to it to activate it, nor do I intend to.
It seems to start up as soon as any data connection is initiated. Be it turning on wi-fi or turning it off and going back to GSM or 3G. It will initiate on resuming from sleep mode and when a normal phone call is made. I know that I am not the only person with this problem. It is literally happening the world over according to the numerous fora dedicated to the x10 that I have found.
Kind regards,

Now we shall see what the techs supposedly have to say. I will keep you informed if there is anything useful in their next email.
Apologies for the long post but I figured it might help and also might be an idea if we all get onto the SE Support on this issue.
Thanks.
Thanks DBSS - I've replied with a similar comment when I got their first hopeless response!.. No reply yet.. We should compare solutions as they arrive!

I am having to use android task killer to periodically kill moxier. I have never done anything with it either and my battery was down to 50% within an hour or so after it had been on charge overnight. Since using task killer its been much better.
Only had X10 about 3 days and impressed with most things but very annoyed for the general consumer who would never use an exchange server but forced to not be able to uninstall moxier stuff on an other wise Flagship phone. maybe Sony can supply a firmware update which allows us to remove or disable it.

Most definitely im_iceman.
For what it's worth by the way I am on O2 Ireland with this phone, locked to them.
Seems we all are having these issues with the freaking Moxier. My solution is Task Panel all the way and adding moxier to the Kill section.
Cant wait to root and forget about this little thingys that are screwing up the total enjoyment of this expensive device!

Looks like this is going to be the only way. I just called Sony Ericsson's help desk and got put through to a vegetable. He advised that there was no way to shut it off, even though i didn't activate it, Sony wouldn't come up with anything to alter it as it's part of the phone and it does that to make switching easier (after i told him i hadn't used it and never planned on using it), and there was nothing they could do.
Gotta love customer service lol
Does anyone know if it can be updated to the latest version at least? Everytime I do the update, it says I have the latest version which is not true. Thanks in advance.
Why do you need to uninstall Moxier ? Just because it is in the kernel stack does not mean it's using any resources...
I use Moxier daily and it has little effect on my battery.....

That's a good point.. I was wondering about it myself today.. I don't use moxier, but there seems to have been a wave of mistrust developing about the app...I've currently got Startup auditor and task manager keeping it off.. but actually not run any tests to see if it's a problem... tell you what.. right now at.. 2217.. I'll take it out of Startup auditor and task manager and see what happens.. will report back later!

any success?
ooh.. do you know what.. I can't remember exactly what happened now.. but I've got startup auditor and task manager both trying to keep moxier off.. so it must have seemed like it got worse!!.. I'll run another test... see what happens.

ROM 3.14

I read in another forum that the official release will be another week or so due to some tweaking they want to do to the ROM.
I don't know if this is accurate or not (and I do not have alink to the forum where I read this...I read too many forums), but I think I may wait for the official release.

when 2.13 was leaked it was exactly the same as the one that was released. I'm guessing this will be the same deal. Doesn't hurt to wait though.
3.14 is amazingly stable in my opinion...loads faster than 2.13 to boot!
I didn't wait.
I've been pleasantly surprised by how stable it's been. I've had maybe one or two freezes since the install and that was on day one. Since then it's been rock solid. Even the HTC messaging has been lag free.
It will be some time before I think about switching back to custom ROMs. Although I do miss all those nice features that nrgz has in his builds...
I'll probably install the official release if they've made any tweaks.
I love reading this and am not a patient man, but on the tmo forum (I finally figured out where I read it) they note puling it back for a few more tweaks.
probably bs, but who knows.
I know I should just dicer in with a link from here as I did last time, but I just did a fresh wipe and reinstall a few weeks back due to exchange server policy enforcement and subsequent lock out and thought maybe to wait...just in case.
thanks for the kind responses though!
There is a major flaw. my head phones do not work with this rom. i tested it twice and then had to go back to retail to confirm that my head phone did not become defective. im sure they will review and fix this issue. the speed is the same i can confirm. it needs some more tweaks none the less.
3.14 has been working fine so far. However, my lock screen picture is now stretched. It's driving me insane!!
Has anyone else had this problem? Could it be happening because of something other than the new rom update?
Does anyone know how to adjust lock screen pictures? I can't seem to find any options.
How do you install the .exe file?
What .exe file? The ROM itself? You connect your phone via USB to your computer, let it sync, then run the .exe from your computer to install the ROM on your phone. Read the stickies for exact instructions.

maybe something was wrong apart from the rom, because both stock and my custom roms worked fine... i listen to audi via headphones twice a day every single day... and my headphones work
the rom is a little faster and there are new GUI designs
when i used it as a custom rom, i had no issues. but the moment i used xmoo version of 3.14 i would always get the same issue. i connect head phones and i dont hear anyone talking via phone calls. also for some reason, they are always on speaker phone even if the option is not enable.
can you please link me the version of rom you are using?

ok, i dont know, but i didnt use xmoo version... maybe his version is an early leak
God what a huge improvement everything is. I unplugged it from power last night around midnight and left it next to my bed while I slept. With WiFi on. It's now 10 hours later, I've toyed with it for about an hour, and the battery is at 90%.
Unfortunately, HTC Messaging + Swype doesn't appear to be a lot better. Maybe a little, in terms of the initial lag when replying to a msg. Also, when a new msg comes in and you hit the message tab, the thumbnail isn't always the current msg.
Emails look a TON different. Much smaller text = YAY!
Knucklehead noobie here... Where do I get the updated ROM from? Thanks.
Does flashing a new ROM delete all your text messages and stuff?
ranestari, yes it does.
However, just sign up for the Microsoft MyPhone thing (free, and if you already have a live account, you're good to go.) The MyPhone app is in your start menu.
It will back up (sync) all of your texts and pics to their online space, only accessible by you (http://myphone.microsoft.com)
When you flash the rom, just launch the MyPhone app again, log in etc... and it will sync all your texts back to your phone.
There are third party sync options out there, but I've never seen the point.
After flashing 3.14 to my HTC HD2, Microsoft My Phone no longer can synchronize with my computer. It just gets stuck at Authenticating User.
Anybody else have this problem?
Microsoft MyPhone doesn't sync with your computer. It syncs to the cloud (internet). Just put in your live, msn, hotmail or whatever account you configured it with before you flashed, and it should resync.

Can you elaborate on this? My main frustration with the current rom is the stupid HTC messaging client with swype. I absolutely despise this thing and I tried disabling it and going back to the old windows messaging but that didn't go too well (unread counter never resets.. OMFG so frustrating!). My only hope is that they fix this crap in the new rom.
Is the lag when loading texts still ridiculous? Is it at least somewhat better? Why haven't they figured this out, this is just pure crazy in my opinion. A company of that magnitude can't figure out how to fix one of the most basic applications in the phone. this is absurd.
I personally HATE Swype and disable it evertime I flash to a new ROM or come in contact with someone thats got an HD2 with it enabled, but what I can say is that while HTC Messageing in the new ROM is "faster" its also just as slow. What I mean is that (for me anyways) it no longer lags when I get a new text, but its just as slow to load a thread if it has any ammount of messages in it. Personally I don't find HTC Messageing to be all that bad if you just delete your threads every now and then, but thats just me.
