As we all know after getting the new OTA we wont be able to root until we get an updated unrevoked.. but i was playing with the 2.2 ota..
these is what i did!!
1- Downloaded the ota version out of that link
2- Followed the intructions and upgraded
3- After its done choose your language and skip all the steps (dont connect to
wifi and as soon as you get to the home screen cancel the 3g connection so
you dont get the new update notification..)
4- Install the android drivers and download unrevoked and open it.. (and follow intructions..)
And that should work.. you get the 2.2 OTA and ROOT...
Note: I did this and got root back.. now I just need to see if I get the notification for the new update and find out how to cancel it...

Nice work.

Hi and thanks for reading and answering.
I've got an HTC Magic vodafone (google branded) and have yet to receive the OTA donut update (I live in Portugal). When I tried the manual install it fails saying that there's no signature blah blah blah. The phone isn't rooted and there's a CRC1 code (don't know what that means)
I've tried to search for answer but every post reffers to cooked roms and I just want to make the official update.
So if someone could please tell me (in the most noobish way possible) how to do it I would be very much gratefull.
Also please don't use letter codes (like OTA for over the air) because most of them are unknown to me.
i dont believe your going to be able to update your phone manually without having root access
root would be like... say how if your on windows you have your "administrator" which can install and change things on your computer but a normal user wouldnt be able too?
thats pretty much what it is... just on linux the admin is "root" and because your not root(the admin) on your phone (your just a user) I dont believe you can do updates even though it is a release from android without having root access other than that you might have to wait for the update
Well as I said before, I'm really noob when it comes to android, so in case of your solution, is there a really big noob guide for rooting and updating (preferably without deleting my stuff)
I updated mine manually and i havent rooted my phone. So you should be able to do it, try downloading the file from another source
Them I happily accept suggestions to where to download the update
If you want a non-rooted phone and for your carrier to supply Donut, there's something wrong with the software on your phone, though it could be as small as a failed download and next Over The Air update will work again. Try erasing all your data with Reset To Factory (it's in the settings menu somewhere) and wait for OTA again.
(Are Vodafone even pushing Donut updates out OTA yet? I didn't think they were.)
If you want to root your phone and install a Donut ROM yourself, read around the FAQs in this forum. Essentially you need to get the Android SDK, fastboot Amon_RA's Recovery, perform a nandroid backup and install a ROM. nk02's Donut is just plain Donut with root, there are other options out there.
please close and delete this thread as I already receive my OTA update. everything is fine except Voice Search (it's not even there )
I rejected the OTA update for my Hero and I needed to use the phone there and then... how do I get it to come through again??
Firstly, make sure you really want it back.
If you flash it you will potentially lose the ability to root (and have custom roms). This means you will never have features like livewallpapers etc etc or be able to try android 2.2
So after my warning if you really do want to use the ota again then just go to menu > settings > about > and there should be an option for ota or something like that.
Its been confirmed that you can downgrade from the 2.1 ota so don't worry about that.
BUT why not just spend 20 extra minutes and root? you'll still get the same official rom but with wifi tether + more

Confirmed. OTA YES, downgrade available.
RRU no... you can't root, downgrade or nothing (YET).
Assuming you have 1.5 now I could not find away to force the update other than setting the clock forward a week or a month. That worked fine. Just remember to set the clock after the upgrade otherwise it will say 1980 and the Market wont work
just do a factory reset. u'll get the OTA msg. but make a backup first because u'll lose ur things on ur phone, e.g apps, sms, call logs
Hey guys,
I just downgraded my phone to 2.1 and went into system settings but my phone is telling me it is up to date. What gives? Why can't it find the OTA? I was getting pestered by it constantly before I downgraded. Is there a way that I can force my phone to go look for the update?
Try dialing *#*#checkin#*#*
Or just download the official OTA from Google, rename it to update.zip, and apply from recovery, as shown here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770091
RUU
I ultimately just ran out of patience and ran the Froyo RUU:
http://www.shipped-roms.com/shipped/Incredible/
If you downgraded to the out of the box software version you will need to manually apply the first OTA from back in May before your phone will see the new 2.2 OTA. Check Settings>About Phone>Software Information: If the software version is listed as 1.22.605.0 then you need to install the May OTA (If you already have the May OTA installed it will list version 1.22.605.2)
See this post for how to install the May OTA Manually: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7933281#post7933281
Once that is installed you should get the OTA pop up to update to 2.2 (Took approx 3 hours for me after installing the may OTA). Or you can allways manually install the 2.2 update as well with the directions found at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770091
Tried the link

says it requires a username/password

You also need the stock recovery (not clockwork) to get it.
This worked great.
Went back to stock 2.1
Followed the directions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7933281#post7933281
did a *#*#checkin#*#*
waited about 20 minutes and there was the update
is there a 1 click eris unroot app like the 1 click rooting app? i looked for an easy way to unroot my eris but cant find it... and the thread i did fidn that walked through how to unroot said that the files where deleted?
Personally, I have not had to do anything "fancy" to get my phone back to stock. I just flash using the RUU and I'm good to go. I just plug in the phone, power it on and let it go through the boot sequence as the RUU detects the current version of the software on my phone. I agree to let it flash the update to my phone and I'm back to stock.
flash the RUU? can you suply a link an where to get this and how to do it? thanks!
do a forum search for unroot
Here you go: HowTo: Flash Any Ruu
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726885
is there a way to unroot without SDK? thats what i need to use in order to make it so i can run any RUU correct? cuz the link i found for an RUU gave me an error i think cuz the fesion on my phone is higher then that of the RUU? i only have acces to my work comp for a while and cant put SDK on it...
I never had to do anything fancy through the SDK to go back from root. I just ran the RUU and was "good to go". Your mileage may vary.
Again, from my post I just managed to get my device recognized and rebooted properly by running the RUU while my phone was booting. It was able to detect my phone once it was at the boot animation past the Androids on skateboards.

using the the ruu from searching... i plug my phone in and run the .exe from my computer and it sees my phone and goes through the steps telling me what version im on and what im going to and then strats to update and then tell me that the update is not suported?
this is what im using...

This will work I promise..
If you have s=off your good if your not s=off and you are s=on pm me and I will give you the file to convert your bootloader to s=off... So considering you are s=off all you need to do is flash the PB00IMG.zip file leaked version 3. You can easily find it by searching google or by going to grdlocks android file manager webpage. What it does is flashes through your bootloader like the old root method and it completely downgrades your phone, your kernel, your radio, puts you back to s=on, everything. As soon as the phone boots log in to google as normal and as soon as the phone connects to the server and your are signed in where your contacts start to sync you will instantly get an "OTA" over the air update notification to update your phone. You used to not be able to successfully update with the ota because the leaked version 3 matched the ota perfectly. Since then there has been radio updates etc. so now it is possible to actually update the phone. Once completed with the over the air you will have all the most recent software/firmware out right now for the Droid Eris and that's pretty much it, your good to go!!!!! Let me know if you have any questions!!!!! Good luck bro...
If someone has already asked this and I missed it, please point me in the right direction.
I have the HTC U Ultra, unlocked, Rooted with TWRP and SuperSU already installed. I am being prompted to install Software Update 1.15.617.12.
Should I allow it to update, and if so will I loose root access and have to re-root the device, or is there a better way?
(sorry about repost, still learning where to properly post in the forums)
it won't allow you to update. Will download the update and give you an error after that. You can only update a non modified system
How do I stop the phone from prompting me every ten minutes to install it then?
