[Q] G2 teardown... LCD replacement - G2 and Desire Z General

Any chance anyone knows of a youtube video or teardown guide for the G2 yet? My LCD screen cracked this last weekend, and I should have my replacement screen tomorrow. I have already popped off the back cover, but now it is time to undo the hinges and circuits, and was hoping someone could show me the light!
I replaced the digitizer screen on my G1, so I have successfully done this kinda thing before, but had a great video and directions. The G1 service manual also had teardown instructions, where as I cant seem to find the same thing for the G2.

There are very detailed teardown pics of a DZ (same as G2) at http://tjworld.net/blog/htc-desire-z-tear-down , hope that helps.

Replacing Digitizer[The ''Touch Screen'']

So my screen is totally scratched up and I've seen some digitizers on ebay for around 40 bux, which is within my power.
But...I can't find a manual/video that shows one how to install the digitizer, the leaked service manual: http://mikechannon.net/PDF Manuals/HTC_Blackstone_Service_Manual.pdf doesn't mention this either.
So anybody tried this or has some more info about this matter?
You can't. You'll have to replace the whole thing. The digitizer is hot glued to the lcd. UNLESS you can somehow detach it by melting the glue somehow, you can't (and if you try that way, I guarantee it'll go horrible lol). So you'll have to swing for the lcd + digitizer kit. Just the digitizer is for those that want to buy it and the lcd screen seperately.

Hardware repair, cracked lcd and grass screen...

I figured its a long shot, but you guys are a tremendous resource. I've scoured google trying to find a forum dedicated to hardware repair, but to no avail. I have a mt3g that my dog got a hold of. The phone turns on and works properly, but the glass screen is shattered as is the inside LCD. The entire front casing is chewed and needs to be replaced. I have access to a lot of phone parts and may be able to get myself a water damaged mt3g with a working front screen. Assuming I can do this, can anyone give me insight into replacing the front casing/screen. Any particular problems I might run into? Things to look out for? Just advice in general would be awesome. If anyone has experience doing this it'd be a great help. Thanks!

[Q] Tmo G2 No video issue (Self-replaced parts)

So i've read through the stickies and havnt come across anything really substantial, tho I have seen a few other user posts about their G2 suddenly losing video.
That's the issue I'm having.
Here's a little history for you:
Customer brought this phone in to me, said it had water damage. Bought it off them to tinker with myself. I opened it up, and sure enough there were some water stains on the flex cable and the back of the LCD. I replaced both with brand new parts, and now the phone boots, but has only a black screen. It receives calls, touchscreen works, makes clicking noises, all that jazz.... just no video
I've pulled all the rf shields off the logic board to take a peek under them, and there is no water damage at all on any part of the logic board that I can see. LCD and flex cable (and midframe) are all brand new, and I'd really like to get it working!
Somehow I dont think HTC will be willing to warranty this for me (tho I have replaced everything that had water damage, so it should be undetectable as there weren't any water stickers in the phone for some reason)
Thanks in advance!
well, after taking a long google walk, I decided to contact the manufacturer of the LCD I bought and try having them replace it for me. hopefully that is the issue and not one of the chips on the main board or some other cable i missed.
If it IS a chip on the board, I'd love for someone to point it out for me so I can try a reflow. Dont wanna reflow the whole board cus it's still got the internal stickers and I dont wanna damage them in case I can finagle a warranty replacement out of HTC
so does anyone have any other ideas what may be behind this issue other than the LCD? I dont want to have to wait to send this LCD back and get a new one, especially if the LCD isnt the problem
I'm not 100% sure about HTC phones as I have not opened one up yet, so i'll speak with my experience with BB phones instead.
When I was in the process of replacing the LCD screen of a BB Storm, there were 2 different types of LCD screen for one device. Perhaps this could be the case? In the BB case, there was a part number followed by either a 001 or 002, neither of which were compatible with each other. My assumption is a driver issue with the main board.
It's a small and simple thing to overlook, especially if you have prior experience in doing things like this, but I thought it would be worth noting. I would compare the old damaged part with the replacement part and make sure the part numbers match up. If the replacement LCD is from China or Hong Kong, I would be weary about their quality.
Regards.
well I got it on ebay, but it was a California seller. as far as I've been able to determine from looking at listings, the LCD's for HTC Desire Z and G2 are identical. All the clips match up right, and all the ribbon cables looked identical to the one I pulled. I'll look into checking on this a little more in-depth tho so thanks for the info!
Hey Bro,
did you managed to fix your phone? I just changed LCD twice, but still the same it boots and all but no video on it... You can even call it, answer everything else works but the screen... Im thinking to change the FLEX RIBBON CABLE, but after reading your thread not sure if thats going to fix my problem. With my original screen I had no backlight on the LCD with the replacement I got backlight on the LCD again...
Any suggestions, ideas welcome!

[Q] [Help] Cracked glass screen!

Hello XDAers!
Managed to drop my O7 onto a lovely concrete floor and very successfully cracked all the glass. It still works fine, the LCD works fine and there's no dead pixels or anything so I think I'm rather lucky.
I've found replacement glass screen digitizers for the O7, and can pick up a generic phone tool kit easy enough. I was just wondering if anyone on here has any experience of changing the glass or could point me to any good sites with useful and concise instructions? My search so far has come up with nothing relevant..
Thanks in advance chaps.

I'm waiting for my replacement screen to arrive. I have absolutely no experience installing lcds and I'm as scared as hell.
The only guide I could find is here http://www.mobile-master.net/2764-samsung-i8700-service-manual-new.html
File number 7 seems useful.
I hope it helps you. But I suggest you take your phone to a repair center along with that manual because you can't risk messing it up yourself.
Good luck and tell me how it goes, I will too
That service guide is very good. I wouldn't say you need to go to a service center neccessarily however I would say to buy the digitizer + lcd + metal chassis as a ready made part to get a good finish. I had to replace the lcd and digitizer and because glueing the unit to the chassis was a little difficult, the top right corner of my screen hasn't stuck so well and juts out a little compared to the rest of the corners, this is now causing me problems with my proximity sensor, which I cannot fix.
aftr the fall my devie facing a strange problm mesgs r nt gong is tat becoz of the fall?

Samsung Galaxy S6 Teardown

Doesn't quite show if the Modem is a separate chip or onboard the 7420.
my 2 cents
Was just about to post this. Thanks!
The battery seems cumbersome to replace. I hate heating things up and removing the glass in fear of cracking it. However, once past that, it looks pretty standard. I'm glad there's no more glue underneath that all.
Being careful, it can be "easy" to change the battery
There is a YouTube video about The Galaxy S6 teardown

they also uploaded to ifixit

Removed some teardown pictures because risk of being reported to sammy.

I wish it was a little easier to repair, ala the Nexus 4, which was rather simple to take apart. But really, anyone who has taken apart phones before shouldn't find it too difficult to repair this device. But it looks like most everything is soldered to the motherboard. What will happen if the usb port breaks?
Hi. I just broke my S6 display, just the protection glass ,the touch is working flawlessly even where the display is cracked. I was wondering what do you suggest, to change only the glass (Oca glue /gel ?) or to replace the whole display meaning glass and touch? Please help guys. Later today I will post a picture with the display. Thank you.

I only had mine for 5 days, dropped it, and cracked the glass.... a week later, dropped it again, and cracked it even more! I can't believe how slippery the G6 is. Anyhow, I ordered a good case the same day I got the phone, but it's stuck at friggen customs for over a month now... Soon as I get it, going to get er fixed. It's $210 locally rite now to get the glass replaced, or $150 for an insurance replacement. Regardless, going to stick with the messed up screen til I get the case, still works great.
Hi. I found to replace the glass and touch together with 150 . Replacing just the screen I think it's cheaper but I didn't hear good things about this procedure (high possibility to crack the touch or the gluing of the touch and glass it's very hard to get like new). Where are you from? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00...y+s6+parts&dpPl=1&dpID=51nFR7qIK9L&ref=plSrch
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S6. The other day, I happened to break the front glass. The LCD is still fine and the phone works, but the glass is all cracked and a little sharp. So I got a Samsung Galaxy S6 replacement and then followed the video guide to fix it. Now the phone just like a brand new phone.
