mytouch 4g development question... - Desire HD General

hey guys first off sorry i have asked questions like this in the mytouch forum but its very quiet over there...
first off does any of the things being worked on over here pertain to the mytouch? i know there almost identical inside so im surprised there is SO much work being done over here and almost NOTHING on the mt4g thread... granted i know the source has not been released yet but there were tons of things we could do to the g2 before we had its source and i just dont see the enthusiasm over on the mytouch thread.
reason i ask is i want a mytouch over the g2 because im worried about the hinge in the future. (to be honest i prefer the desires looks and big screen but i have to have the 4g and t-mobile discount so its not much of an option :/) anyway im just wondering if any of this can be easily ported to the mytouch because as busy as you guys are then atleast i would know alot of it will come over to the mytouch in time....

anyone? sorry if its a dumb question but im just curious.

Recommendationz???

iight, Friday is gonna be a sad day... I'm sellin' my MyTouch cause i needs some moniez... But obviously i'm not gonna go wit out an Android phone... So, here is the reason for this post... I had a G1 about a year ago but was to chicken sh** to Root it, i have rooted my MyTouch and its pretty smooth and not havin any issues... The question i have, is which out of my fellow xda'erz would you recommend for me??? G1 or Cliq??? i cant afford a nexus or Cliq XT, but i think i want that lovely physical keyboard back... and if you recommend one over the other, was the rooting and flashing ROM's pretty easy???
thanx for your opinions.
i would say if you have a g1 already, use it. i dont personally know, but all the specs for the cliq seem to mirror the g1. roots easy! i recommend the 1 click method. as far as roms, pick one. they all seem to be a dying breed. i have ran cyan, dwang, super d, and some 2.0 breed. i liked dwang a lot, but had some problems with mms. i really didnt have super d long enough to comment on it. as far as the 2.0 breeds, i dont recommend them if you rely on your phone as a phone. the g1 just isnt capable of handling them like the bigger brothers. im back on cyan 4.2.15.1 right now. i still like it, but cyan isnt messing with it too much these days. someone said he's going to release a 4.4 version. i think if he does, it will probably be his last.

G1 without a doubt.
As far as I know the cliq isnt able to be rooted and there is way more development for g1 as well.
Ive also heard many complaints about the cliq's physical keybaord.
Lastly, if it isnt rootable then it isnt good in my book.
And for the record, Super D is a must.
Nothing else can touch it especially since the latest release (yesterday).

G2 ROMs

Ok obviously we don't have any now, but I wanted to get the ball rolling.
The only rom I personally would like is a vanilla one with all the google stuff not pre installed!
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I want the Desire Z rom, never played with sense, would like to try it out
I want a Gingerbread ROM. What's the hold up guys?? Come on already! hehe
Seriously, though. Vanilla, pre-rooted 2.2.1 with tethering/hot-spot would be sweet.
Cyanogen Rom pls
Desire Z ROM please, rooted!
Just Got My Phone And Its A Really Smooth Phone.
I have have The G1, MT3G Slide, and now the Android G2.
The G2 is way smoother then all of the rest.
I would just like all the google crap removed.
I want CyanogenMod and be able to tether
Vanilla is fine with me, I just want root to run Wireless Tether
Usb tether(not pdanet) would make me happy, that's the only reason I root.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
Just got my phone yay. But I don't care to much for roms just want root for now. And I love how the phone feels not to heavy not 2 light
Sent from my T-Mobile G1 using XDA App
All if you guys think like me
@tubaking
Usb tether is cool, but why not wireless tether like the one that's available on the google codes page?
@PolishDude @SuperDave81 @RaffieKol
If I could try the Desire rom with all the bloatware removed, I'm game because I absolutely love sense. I went and downloaded Beautiful Widgets along with Beautiful Live Weather just so I can somewhat emulate the HTC Sense Weather/Clock
@f231f
I am definitely feeling a vanilla rom, no google stuff unless I want to install it and root so I can install Wireless Tether from google

I don't think this will please the devs... first off posting this here in the development section wasn't the best choice. second you'll get whatever ROM the Dev decides to make.. stop asking for this and that... right know the focus shouldn't be on what you want in a ROM but to get the phone rooted first.
I would really like the sence rom on this baby IMO sence works better for me. But tethering is a must

If this was the wrong place to post this then I apologize and would greatly appreciate it if a mod would move it to the correct section. As far as the developers not liking what is being said here, they don't have to do it. This forum isn't one dictating what they should do, but merely what we would like to see done. Regardless of what they put out, people will flash their roms. I seriously don't think that they would get offended over what was said here.

I never said they would be offended. These Dev's do this on their free time and starting a thread asking for what people want in a ROM for a phone thats yet to be rooted is not to bright. Focus on rooting the phone first, because with out root devs cant make roms for it. From what Ive seen some Dev's start to feel unappreciated when people ask for so much, some people don't understand that this isn't the Dev's day job. its a past time activity for them.

I never said it was their day job nor did I say it was something that is owed to us. If developers have issues with us saying what we want in a rom, they wouldn't ask us for our suggestions and heed them when we make them. So you, who aren't the mouth piece for developers, should let them speak for themselves concerning their feelings about their roms. And for you to say that me creating this post about what people would like to see in a rom isn't "bright", well that remark wasn't bright seeing as this is an open forum and I can create topic(s) about anything I want so long as it fall under the sites guidelines. If you have an issue with what's being said here, then don't post here. If you have absolutely no desire of anything specific in a rom, then why waste your time coming to a post pertaining to that? If your a mod, then delete the post, if not, then I am going ask that you stop posting comments that don't pertain to the topic at hand.

well how about that sexy desire z 10second boot time, on a modified stock g2 rom with the usual cyanogen speed increases that we always get and tethering.. anything else can be done with an app or home replacement, this phones plenty fast.. once we get rooted, overclock to 1ghz and just wait for faster roms lol this threads pointless as we dont even have a root right now.
I second this. T-Mobile over did it with it seems EVERY Google app pre-installed.

CM7 talk..

Hey all, I just thought I'd make this thread in the general talk as it wouldn't fit in the dev section... if it belongs elsewhere please do move.
when do you all think CM7 will come? if so will you be flashing it right away when it is released to us? best of all... do you have high hopes to it being stable over time? post away what you expect from it and when =]

There's a beta for the legend
http://derhofbauer.at/android/
It could be ported to slide but I think it's better to wait for actual espresso build instead. I think legend/aria roms will work on slide since it goes the other way around too, but that's possible by flashing a kernel on top of the rom. Not sure if that will work with CM7.
ahhhh, i see ha.. I wasn't even aware of such ROM for the legend.. yeah I'd to rather wait for an actual build for us slide users, It would save us time of porting it, etc.... I hope we at least will have stable wifi.
I have a build ready.. ported from the legend only thing is no menu/back/genius button or keyboard everything else works. I talked too cheifz reloaded and we cant figure it out so Im going back to compiling it from source, but if you guys wanna play with it ill upload it
Don't you need to reformat your recovery to ext3 for GB? I'm S-Off so it might be easier for me, but idk how'd they'd work this with temp. CW

You cant make a recovery ext3, that a linux file format. Ext3 is for disk space like sd,hdd only.Recovery is .img file.
Thanks for clearing that up for me, I heard a lot of talked of the Nexus S using ext3/4 instead of YAFFS so assumed we needed to do some reformatting to be able to run GB

Ext 4 will be used for INT memory only, so the speed of the phone is better than current phones like Galaxy S or desire hd,etc..
Can't wait till we get Gingerbread. It's already available for many devices. But it seems that we can only rely on Cyanogen some time later.
I hope it comes out with Gingerbread, now that would be awesome!

I'm glad this thread has somewhat started a talk lol... to many flame battles recently, anyways back on topic, Cyanogen said nightly builds will be out in a few days hopefully according to his twitter as a respond to someone. I hope this means us as well in a few days! I plan on using my mytouch with cm7 until T-Mobile releases a true top phone with dual core processor.
"we'll have nightly builds of CM7 going in a few days"
I saw a tweet from Wes Garner today that said he was working on GB for the Slide. Hopefully that means the CM team has a clear idea of how to make it fly with what HTC/TMO has released, source wise, for this phone.
My buddy is giving me his Nexus One in a couple of days ... I'm very excited to upgrade. I will keep this phone as a rock solid back-up so I hope development continues. I love my Slide and it's keyboard; it's going to be odd adjusting to a device w/out a keyboard.

Cant wait to get rid of this phone

Well i love the hardware this phone came with, and I didn't think I was going to at first. But to be honest, the lack of custom sense roms is driving me away from this phone, virtuous has too many bugs, and even vanilla android roms are in short supply. The G1 had more things to try, and for obvious reasons, yet if there is no more support for the G2 in the near future to compare to the G1 I'll be getting rid of this thing asap.
Aww man that's sad to hear. I hear you though.
I am using the VillainROM Sense+Rosie. I also tried Virtuous and CM7 (I know not Sense, but the latest/greatest). I love the ROM I have. If you have not tried it, I recommend it. There is almost no support for it, the thread for it is all but dead. But I have had no problems.
same here
yeah i dont like that theres no actually fully working sense rom/s i got this as an upgrade and i like it but i use my vibrant more just because the vibrant has so much dev support and here on the g2 forums theres hardly any updates, where over at the vib forums theres updates every if not every other day. im thinking of trading the g2 for a mytouch 4g
Check the dev section rmk40 just posted a new orange sense 1.85 rom.

Sense roms
Huh? The sense roms for the G2/Desire Z are pretty good. The best sense roms i have tried are from Virtuous and VillianRoms.
That's too bad.. The G2 ROCKS!
Give a go for VillainROMZ. I would use it my self, if there was no such a beautiful thing as CyanogenMod ;-)

Damn. People. Give some credit to the devs. The G2 came with special protection which made it hard to root. Now that we finally achieved permaroot the roms should start flowing in the next few weeks.

God only knows how much time/effort/money HTC put into locking down this device and ensuring that it wouldn't be rooted and hacked away by the development community.
Despite all of that, we have root, S-OFF AND very good developer support behind one of the best Android devices on the market.
If you want more developer support, maybe go for a Motorola Droid, or maybe a Motorola Cliq. Those devices have GREAT developer support behind them... =P
Stop cryin people. Go try meXdroid ExtraHotSauce. Time to manup

Tmobile G2 is done but lets keep this going!

Honestly guys. Lets keep this support going regardless! Too many awesome developers giving us great things. donate. do anything possible for them. It's sad that T-Mobile decided after 7 months.. to just end a device that actually was a GREAT device. And honestly should be kept around for longer than that. (I'm sure a lot of us paid 250.00 for it with 2 year contract) I hope as a loving XDA Developer member and many others we can keep this going. I'm rather concerned what will happen in the future with this device on the development side of things. It's a good device and I know in the world of technology things to age very very fast. but maybe we can keep this around for longer than t mobile wants..
Much respect.. XDA guy dude of sorts.
This belongs in general.
Yes it does. But why not let the developers see this? I'd like to hear most of the developers opinions..
Because this is not what the developer forum is for and I really doubt devs are going to pack up and ship out because T-Mo isn't retailing the phone anymore.

I agree and hope this is the case. There are already a ton of us with the G2/DZ and it isn't a big deal if they take it off the shelves. All of you who have it now can just keep it going. I realize the concern with warranty replacement and such, but other than that I see no reason why this is such a big deal. We all know it's a fantastic device, who cares if T-mo doesn't realize that and discontinues it. Our DZ's still will most likely get the software updates you G2 owners won't get, and the DZ version can just be rooted and put on your G2's. There's no reason to freak out and buy a new phone if you have the G2.
