Streak or Galaxy tab?! - Streak 5 General

Hey guys,
I am currently using a nexus one and love it, however i long for a bigger screen. being on Bell in canada there really isn't any options in the 4.3" range and i would love the 5" of the streak. However with the tab launching tomorrow I'm torn between the two.
How is the screen quality? The resolution doesn't compare with the tab however it is smaller. How does it compare to a typical 3.7-4" phone such as my nexus?
I love the fact that i can still pocket the streak and use it as a phone. The tab is definetly no longer in the pocket range.
Has anyone bought the streak and wished they waited a bit longer to get a bigger screen? I imagine its quite an improvement over my nexus, but the tab might be the same improvement over the streak!
Say something to sway me to the streak please! its cheaper lol.

They're two totally different devices. One is a phone that you're meant to carry around, the other is a tablet that's meant to stay in your bag or at home. Which one to gets really depends on what you want to do with it.

It's good, not as vibrant as an OLED screen but quite similar to the Streak. There's no annoying OLED pentile matrix though, which is great.

I have a streak, and bought a Tab anyway. They're for different purposes. Surfing and typing is definitely easier on a tab as it's larger but not too large, but I don't carry it everywhere I go - the streak does that job well for a mobile device.
Reading newspapers and magazines is definitely easier on a Tab as the screen is larger. At the moment the tab is a lot more responsive than the streak too... the official 2.2 that's coming out shortly should fix that.
This is the two next to each other:
http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/2546/tabstreak.jpg

I have both a Nexus One and now recently got a Streak. Like the previous poster said its really about your intended purpose. I absolutely love the Streak because the screen is huge but it can easily handle the occasional phone call I may get. I still love my nexus one but I honestly don't know if I could ever go back to such a small screen.
As for the Tab I don't own one but have played with one extensivley and will stick with my Streak for the indefinite future because its truly a mobile option. One of my requirements for a mobile device is that it fits in my pocket which cuts out the Tab. Honestly the Streak is at the max end of the size spectrum for a phone while maintaining the mobility I require.

Dell Streak's battery life is weak with 3G & wifi usage. I passed by a Sprint show booth today, and from they told me, the Galaxy Tab battery life is wonderful...

Thanks for the reply. I guess i need to decide if im looking to replace my nexus one, or have a tablet to compliment it!

Yeah, especially so in the price, you can buy two streaks for one ridiculously overpriced tab

I have to agree about the cost, they've priced it only slightly lower than the equivalent iPad. I also understood that the U.S. version has no 3g support?

I would buy the Streak to test it, you will probably know very soon if the size is ok for you.
I went from the Desire to the Streak, and it still seems like a big enough screen for me, but I tend to use it for more pleasure then business. Although with swype it's not a big hassle to write emails anyways...
If you don't like the streak size, and want to go bigger, Ii would wait until Galaxy Tab 2 comes in the new year, with the AMOLED screen it will be a gorgeous screen. And if thats not important to you, the original Tab will probably plummet in price when the new one comes out..

The US Tab has 3g but no voice. Some have had luck flashing the TMo tab with the Euro firmware to allow for voice, but then they are stuck with Edge because the Euro Tab uses different 3g bands than TMo. Might have more luck with the ATT version when that comes out because ATT uses one of the Euro bands in many locations.
It's probably just a matter of time until the perfect a TMo firmware too, but either way i have a hard time replacing my phone with the Tab if voice is not officially supported by the carrier...

galaxy tab probably but im a bit biased lol

Wow checkbox111 I think you should know what your talking about before posting. Here in Canada the streak off contract goes for 550 from rogers or 675 unlocked so 550 + 550 come to 1100 and the tab off contract from bell is 650 which is a fair bit below 1100.

I used to have a nexus one which i still love but i always longed for a larger screen to comfortably make use of the browser. So the streak was it, It doesn't make sense for me to have two devices when i can compromise and get the something in between. Plus its a phone, something the tab isn't....

Really you don't think him calling everyone who is thinking about buying one dumb is more of an insult then me saying he must not be very good at math lol.He is basically saying the guy who started this post and me and millions of others are dumb.
Anyway I won't post about this again I just thought I'd explain why I came of a little snotty. Sorry
I think if you have a phone your happy with but would like a little more screen on occasion then the tab is the way to go. The streak is easier to carry around but i can't see taking it to a night club where you have to check your coat I already have enough stuff I carry in my pockets.
The other option is if there both on the same carrier then just switch the sim to the phone that you want to use. I know thats what i was thinking about doing but I think I might just buy the tab instead because my galaxy s already has a 4" screen so jumping up to a 5" screen doesn't seem like a big jump for the money.
What are the prices in the US anyway and yes Canada is always a rip off but you get used to it and actually think your getting a good deal.

My Streak is data only, no voice calls which suits me fine and I'm paranoid about breaking it so I'd never take it into a situation like a nightclub. I have a 'normal' unlocked phone for making phone calls.

I agree the streak is a mobile option the galaxy won't fit most pockets however I will get a tablet once I can afford one. Fit for purpose. I certainly think I will struggle with a smaller screen

Dell Streak not available in the US...

...buy why?
I've been following the Streak for as long as its been rumored, and I haven't seen this brought up.
Why do you guys think that Dell decided to go to the UK first, and so much earlier, than in the US? Seems weird for a US-based tech company to release what looks to be a very high-profile device outside of the US, so much earlier, and not even in a comparably-sized market (if they released in "Europe" first that might make SOME sense...but in the UK only?)
The ONLY thing I could come up with is that they are using the UK as a test market, either for the hardware itself, or for their incarnation of Android. Perhaps an update to 2.1 on the US launch? Though that is rumored to be coming in January 2011, not on launch date.
Any other theories/facts out there?
I have a Streak and it is very good! I don't know why they released in the UK first, but I am pleased it did.
When it gets to the US it'll only increase the follwoing and developments will rocket. So I for one am looking forward to it too.

Only if they come out with a T-mobile 3g version
2 GB per month isnt enough and Att sucks!
2Gb per month? On O2 (and Vodafone - dunno about the rest) we get 500mb a month for the £5 a month data plan. Then another £5 per 500mb thereafter.

I personally think that Dell is just way behind with their mobile phone department, being completely new to the game. 02 was probably the first real and successful partner that decided to pair up with Dell. Considering they are so hush-hush about the US release it makes me think the only reason for such a delayed launch is a delay in partnership. Or it could be because whoever their US partnership is has to wait until a previous contract is up. Or it could possibly be that nobody in the US wanted to partner with Dell so they decided to release it in the UK, to see potential interest/outcome around the world. Rumor has been going around that the US maybe released with 2.2, which wouldn't matter. Software is always upgradeable, hardware (which I think will be the exact same as the UK models and beta models) is not.
As for the Beta Streak's (from Texas), what an absolute joke. Dell has done a terrible terrible job at keeping their US customer's happy or in the 'know' thus far. And then once they decide to give it some publicity, it is to such a wide ranged age group that is mostly physically active. Now I am not saying most competent high-end phone owners are not active, I am just saying that most do not run races. (I would for a free Streak!)
Considering they have a page on their store for the coming-soon 'Aero', why not do the same for the Streak?
And if it is due to none of the above, then maybe the US is in for a big surprise with their model. But I highly doubt that. Everyone else currently with a Streak would be extremely upset (I know I would).
.
dell streak i have had for 2week now its the most awesome device i have ever had the chance to get my mutty paws on and i have had alot of devices with froyo 2.2 this will be unstopable and did you know there is a micro sd card x 2 in this device yes the other one is hdden inside to instal apps on 2gb and can be chnged to a 32gb if pleased plusa another 32gb external how about that then.
I think you should change your plan my friend, I get 3gb per month and unlimited wifi at the cloud with o2 for £15 per month although this is the data only plan.

That statement is damning. Six months ago (late 2009/early 2010), the hardware in the "Dell Mini 5" (Streak) was cutting-edge, top-of-the-line. If they'd released then, they'd have had the fastest smartphone in the world. Now, we have the EVO, Nexus One, Incredible, DroidX, Captivate (in a week), iPhone 4, etc. The Dell Streak will be nothing more than your average high-end smartphone in a controversial form-factor, with an antiquated operating system.
I dunno, we'll see what I do. I was all-in for the Streak, because I really want the form-factor (larger screen, HDMI-out on the side for docking) and for Dell selling it unlocked (I don't want to buy through a carrier, or even have a contract, other than a month-to-month with T-Mobile or something), but the Streak is already looking pretty long in the tooth, and it hasn't even been released yet.
I think Dell really messed up on this one.
I think the worst of all is that you have this VERY passionate base of hardcore tech enthusiasts who really want this phone in the US, then Dell turns around, releases this phone in the UK, and is absolute silent about the plan for the US.
If they had any brains (which I really question at this point), they'd go to GDGT.com or something like that, find every person who has the Streak listed as a device they want, and ship them out. As of this moment, that is only 208 people. At $500 retail (though probably more like $300 at-cost), that's only about $100,000. I think Dell can afford that, and the good-will that it would build, from these extremely passionate users who will then go out and convince all of their friends, families, and others to buy this device, would more than recoup the cost.
Oh well. Over at StreakSmart, a LOT of people are looking at getting the Captivate now (or something else), and I have to say, while I was locked in for the Dell Streak, I'm going to be keeping my options open now. Every week that passes by, that 1GHz Snapdragon hardware set is getting older, more cool phones come out, and they have better versions of Android. It's going to be hard to seriously say "Dude...I'm gettin' a Dell!" too much longer...

Aye, I need the talk plan as much as I do the data. In any case, I took the Streak back - very little media codec support, shoddy audio quality, and lackluster graphics power eventually won over the 5in screen... I'm off to get a Galaxy S from either T-Mobile (coverage dependent) or Three, if Three get their fingers out of their ar$es and make the Galaxy S available.

Crap, you better move over to the Captivate forum ASAP! For some reason, making any decision to go against the Streak here will get you flamed big time! I haven't seen that type of behavior on this board before so I was left scratching my head when I made the same decision.
As long as you take a balanced look at it the I don't think it should be flame worthy, but I know what you mean.
Apologies for the thread hijack as well - but it's not like there's a specific question being asked here.
Anyhow, I did really like the Streak for what it was, it's just that it didn't live up to the expectations of what I needed from it. FLAC support and decent audio quality is very important to me; the click and low level hiss in the background when the Streak played any audio was something I just couldn't live with.
I'll miss 5in of screen space, it must be said. Browsing on the Streak was a great experience, but seeing Quake 3 and the newer games coming out on the Galaxy, as well as integrated HW decoding of the major codecs (decoding 1080p on the fly? crikey!) are just another nail in the coffin.
Oh, and £54 for a dock so I can have HDMI out, and £25 for a USB charging cable? That's just rude.
Unfortunately those are things we haven't been able to compare here in the US. We have to rely on reviews until we can get them in hand. I'm sure that if I get both units in hand and the Dell strikes me as more usable, I'll buy it. I'm definitely going to be more critical of the Streak now that the Captivate will be out at the same time.

For better or worse people are emotionally invested in their purchases so they take it personally when you say "F#ck Dell and their stupid Streak" like you did in the other thread, hence the flaming.

Looking to buy a dell streak need some advice.

I've been around android since android first came out and plan on sticking with android for a long time. I currently own a rooted nexus one and I'm thinking about switching to a dell streak. I don't mind the big size of the phone for I'm the type that figures the bigger the better. Here's a few questions that I have. (I'm also aware that the streak only as of right now runs froyo 2.2)
1. Is it worth the switch from a nexus one to the streak?
2. Is the streak capable to handle a 3.0 honeycomb upgrade?
3. What a some major cons about the streak that you experienced user's feel are worth sharing?
4. Is the streak worth rooting? And why?
I'll google that and get back to you.

Nice one MOD EDIT. Keep your comments to yourself.
I can't help you with #1 or #2 - I simply don't know the answers. (I've never used a Nexus One.)
Strictly considering it as a phone, it's a big hunk of glass and a little unwieldy to use. The ergonomics are clunky (try holding a PopTart up to your ear) and the proximity sensor on mine is hit or miss. (e.g. when I take the phone off of my ear to delete a voice mail, the screen often stays dark.)
Whatever issues I have with it as a phone are more than made up for everywhere else. The 5" screen is the perfect portable, pocketable tablet size. Beautiful screen, easy to be productive on in terms of email, reviewing documents, etc. It's replaced my Tab as my portable/couch-surfing tablet and my Garmin as an in-car GPS - I think it's as versatile a gadget as I've ever had.
As for rooting the Streak, I guess it depends on what you'd like to do with it. I rooted mine, but just to enable tethering.
Just asking a question, no meed to be MOD EDIT about it.

I have an unlocked version, but I use it on AT&T - I have the unlimited data plan they used to sell with the iPhone.
I'm not completely current with their data plans, but I think they are relatively reasonable.
The streak is great, i almost don't use my netbook anymore. The camera is not great, and the speaker is not great for media (but wait till you see the video). Also, I'm getting the impression that its pretty delicate, so don't drop it!
Its very thin and about the size of your pocket, you you almost don't know its in there.
Of course you will want to root it, why not? You will need to upgrade the ROM if it comes with 1.6, which is just horrible. I'm using DJ_Steve's custom ROM, almost as much of an upgrade as coming from 1.6. Just fantastic...

I second that one. I didn't own Nexus One, but during last two years I used G1, iPhone, n900 and now Dell Streak. When I look at G1 it just looks so tiny now. Dell Streak definitely catches attention
I cant say much about phone function, I just don't use phone any more, but as all-around internet device I'm very happy with it. For browsing net, news, IM, apps large screen does big difference in my opinion, and you can still fit it into jeans pocket, if you don't have these tiny-tiny pockets.
I personally don't see any major drawbacks of this device. Maybe docking station is little expensive.
I have both and use them both regularly. Mostly I use the nexus for when I need something great and small. I use he Streak for mostly everything else. I have yet to be throttled by att and have had some huge months. I use them both as the internet connection for my OQO model 02 at work so I can complete my college assignments. If you have any questions pertaining to either or both just pm me and I will get you what I can. Its worth it, I even got my wife the white one from best buy. I think it will be able to handle honeycomb but can't be sure. Also it will be weather or not someone is willing to make a rom.

1. Used both and like streak better. faster and love the screen estate
2.I think so , but wouldnt want to go there until it offers something that is substantially bigger. Going from 1.6 to 2.2 was huge and was needed . However from 2.2 to 3. dont know
3.Very little support from developers. Except for steve( and fards) and his company , none...
I wish more developers come here( however must add that steve and fards is doing a great job. this is a great device.
4.Absolutely.. any android device for that matter.
Must add that : This device is larger than a normal smartphone and u will love it if u have a big hand... I have had many of my friends who had difficulty with size.
I had a rooted nexus one on tmo. The streak offers practically everything the n1 does. The only benefits n1 has over streak that is worth mentioning is more baked roms, and it gets first dibs on updates.
Btw att cap is 2gb. Its a joke if youre a heavy user or plan on tethering.

I've owned both, nexus was fun until it decided to blow up on a brotha. The streak is everything one would ever ask for in a phone. And the wow factor is insane. Most people don't believe its a phone until u prove it lol. The only problems for me are the lack of development from attention and a few hardware incapatabilities with a few apps(chase). So of course u must root and Dj steve and creek are amazing. Been running 1.6.1 since release with no problems. LOVE THIS PHONE!!!

Yes, att does NOT offer unlimited data anymore. Honestly tho, I had unlimited data on tmo, att, and sprint and Im a pretty heavy user, but I dont think I ever broke the 2gb point (came close to it). However I SHOULD add that I dont really youtube or pandora on the go, and also im straight wifi as soon as I get home from school or work.
I was worried when I jumped back to att with the cap, but when I started monitoring my usages, most of em were at home so I dont worry anymore. But if youre the type that has to stream music or movies regularly on the go, or dont have wifi access, then stay away from these data cap plans.

I've hit my 5GB limit last month with T-Mobile and fear that 2GB might not be enough for me lol. By reading all these posts I see that there are more pros then cons with this device and that more people are happy with it. I called at&t and asked them about getting more then 2GB from them and they told me its going to cost $10 per gigabyte a month. Here's my other question. What are your monthly bills looking like? Are you guys paying more then $100 a month with your plans? And which plan is more worth going with? I've been with T-Mobile for 6 years and don't wanna regret switching to at&t.

If you are switching from T-mobile then you will miss the customer service and the billing with t-mobile is very consistent. I had switch to at&t because the signal with t-mobile was non existent in rural cities and highways in mississippi. I will say i miss my old t-mobile plan. $94 dollars for unlimited everything and that included tax. My bill is like $115 with taxes with AT&T. I say if you are trying to switch to AT&T you must follow my checklist:
1.Bring in your own device so you are not binded to a contract.
2.Browse the ebay or other sites for people trying to transfer their service that have the unlimited data.
3.Make sure you prepare to see a higher bill by budgeting.

Atrix popularity on question

Hello folks,
On paper, the atrix is very similar to the Samsung Galaxy s2.
I do acknowledge the GS2 is better than the atrix on most scenarios, but I don't think the GS2 should be 700+ bucks or on the other hand the atrix shouldn't be as cheap as 300+ bucks.
I've been checking on the motorola atrix pricing around ebay and I actually made a decent deal. Which brings me to the question. Why is the atrix so cheap and unpopular, when it brings real life performance similar to the GS2 and even more functionality than the GS2 (Atrix docks), all this at half the price of the GS2
What are your thoughts?
It seems that due to the radio frequency only supporting ATT 3G, and also the fact that Galaxy S has a better following than "Atrix" this would support the cheaper price.
If you look up Samsung Focus for instance, you can get one for around $100 and it has a 1ghz processor and 4"amoled screen. (no slouch) but because its WP7 and because it wasnt that popular, you can get it cheap.
it is called free market pricing. Prices are set at point where supply and demand meet. The SGSII is a great phone, and lots of people want it (high demand). It is also very new, and never before released in the US on a major carrier, which means that supply is very low. Both of these two factors push the price of the phone up.
The atrix is a great phone, however there is tons of supply since it has been out for quite a while. This drives the price down.
Another reason, compare the predecessors... Droid X vs Galaxy S. They are both great phones, but in my book the Galaxy S wins 95 out of 100 times. Samsung just makes very refined and desirable phones.
I have an atrix, and anticipate loving it once I get CM7x, but for the past 4 months that I have had it, it has been a lot of frustration.

Mostly agree (not sure about the GS processor winning 95% of the time, but OK). Just wanted to fix a glaring little error, in bold

I agree that it's the supply and demand thing.
When I bought mine, almost no official retailer would sell it to me without an activation on Bell. And, it was full price (over $600). Now it's $100 on a 3-year term. I didn't want to wait so I paid the price...
uhm, I think that brings the reason why the atrix is so cheap. I'm not complaining, just wondering.
Anyways, it's better for me and any atrix potential buyer hehehe. I wanted to buy the GS2 but then i realized that the similarly specd atrix was almost half the price. so I went for the atrix, plus the hd dock and the remote control are some nice features.
Have a portable entertainment system that makes calls? that's priceless. And if you are watching a movie on your home teather and have to go, you can just pick up your phone and keep watching in the subway...
Another unmentioned (at least on this thread) factor of the Atrix unpopularity was the fact that it came bootloader locked, which meant that no custom ROM could be installed.
But that has changed now that we have an unlocked bootloader!
Get ready to start seeing more and more custom roms for the Atrix that basically will unleash its true potential.
Stay tuned...
P.S.- For me, more than Atrix specs, Lapdock addon alone blows the SGS2 out of the water easily.
I see them selling for around $550 used here in Canada.

That was the selling point for me also. Otherwise I probably would have gone with an iThingy. Once you root the phone to where you can tweak the lapdock packages and add lxterminal, etc, it is a great tool. j
The lapdock/Atrix combo has pretty much replaced my much heavier laptop for everything but astrophotography - and that's only because my astro camera is a firewire CCD which I don't think is ever going to be supported on the Atrix.
I am happy as hell with the Atrix (I like the fingerprint scanner) I was stuck with the captivate and it was horrible because the GPS just didn't work (which i needed). Bottom line buy the phone for the features you need and work well. If you don't need widgets get an iphone, if you don't mind crappy GPS get a Samsung.
with all electronics since the beginning of time new=expensive and not being subsidized by a major US carrier like at&t has a lot to do with it also. i remember back in the day when i bought the HTC Kaiser for $800 before it was release as the att tilt when this happened the price dropped quite a bit, the same will happened with the GS2 when it hits an north american carrier. european phones are generally more expensive since they are not usually subsidized by their carrier and come unlocked.
Higher price doesn't mean if a product is better than its rivals. ip4 is still more expensive than atrix, is it better ?

For the average person? Probably. Better pictures, better screen, better battery life, very simplistic GUI. The average person will play casual games on their phone, browse the web, text, and use facebook. That's it. There's a reason why it's still the highest single selling phone on verizon and AT&T even though it's a year old and still costs $200 on contract.
Dont forget the LG Optimus 2x, its a fantastic phone with a fantastic screen, i liked it more than my Atrix but it doesnt support my new network (850mhz)

I purchased an Atrix when I finally bricked my Captivate. This is a really nice phone but I miss my Captivate. I'm going to send it off soon and probably go back to it. If you select the right ROM, there are zero GPS issues. I won't lie though, the GPS is amazing on this phone. I really just miss my AMOLED.

Ex Dell Streak er

I'm surprise no one started a thread just yet on this so let me be the first. I'm a former Dells streak user and one of those who can't rid myself of the 5 inch display, use it up to the latest rom by Djsteve on streakdroid 2.4. got myself a Gnote for couple of weeks now and is currently on Cassie's literom KL3.
here is my like and dislike with Galaxy note as compare to Streak:
Like:
Super Amoled HD makes streak pixel looks so rough in comparison
For factor, lighter and easier to hold even though screen is 0.2 inch bigger than streak.
GPS lock is blazing fast
Superb Battery life -consider this if you need more juice-http://www.obostore.com/5000mah-extended-battery-for-samsung-galaxy-note-p-3925-c-198.html
Picture and movie quality!
Dislike:
ROM for Note at infancy stage, can't even get launcher to work flawlessly
Can't run many games due to compatibility(screen not maximize or apps cant run)
Physical button location. Streak button is all at the right place for one hand thumb usage and correctly position when use horizontally. (streaker who had migrate will know what i mean)
this is what i can think of and this is not a review, i know its not fair to compare both hardware as both are from a different time and in gadget time, one year means 1 decade in human time
Ex streaker, please share your thoughts.
Streakers, post question if you have any.
I am an ex Streaker who was "forced" to go to a Samsung Infuse when my precious Streak's screen cracked... I have been drooling over the Note for months - only thing holding me back is fear of being shut off by AT&T (I am on an "unlimited" smartphone plan and I do not want to lose that). Great thread - I am curious what the ex streakers think of the Note!
Just waiting for the white Note to be released in the UK then I'll add to this thread ... Hurry up Samsung !!

Streak
Im an ex streak owner forced to the Note after suprise suprise, breaking the lcd on the streak.
Comparison wise, the streak was good, but im sorry to say the streak is an amateurs toy compared to the note, th Gnote is a real beast humming along, the streak could never compare, as for roms, people can talk Dj Steve all day long, there isnt a single rom on that forum that actually worked as it should have, especially streakdroid.
Whats all this talk of people being cut off their data plans for having a streak, Im on an unlimited data plan in the uk with 3 and no ones ever said anything to me about my data usage, ive heard this a few times on this forum now, is this only an AT&T issue or something??
This device is basically eveything everyone who had the 5" had hoped the opus one would be. Rooting and roming seems to be easier than on the streak too somehow. I only lament it not having nfc or lte or hsdpa2 or 4g connectivity as was stated months back. There will probably be an updated version somewhere along the road too. Rumors already fart in the general direction of 6" too. Which, btw, is basically the maximum i am willing to carry, as long as the bezel ain't too big anyway. The pentile matrix samoled display is a bit of a cheat because it only uses 8 instead of 12 subpixels too. BUT the display is both capacitive AND induktive and the s-pen is basically a wacom stylus pen.

Also an ex Streak user here. I loved the streak at first, but after a few months I got really fed up with its temperamental nature. It was very slow at times and became just a hindrance. I couldn't wait to get rid of it and upgraded to a galaxy s2 as soon as I could. Then a few months after that I saw that the Note had been announced and began drooling over that. Had a few problems with pink spots on S2 camera so I used that as an excuse to complain to Orange UK, got out of the contract early, started a new one and got the Galaxy Note free.
Its just such a different experience to using the Streak. Much faster (although I do think some of the 3rd party launchers were smoother on the streak), much better screen, nicer to hold, s pen is fantastic, and as some others have said...the s2 now feels like a little toy.

Graemeg, don't worry that wont happen on UK networks. Its only US networks that do that for some reason.....it seems absolutely crazy that in this day and age, and in such supposedly free country that that should be allowed to happen.. .what the hell is this world coming to. Come on all you AT &T users, get together and do something about it.

It looks like AT&T had the wrong IMEIs in its database, and it was incorrectly identifying the Note as a tablet. Apparently it's been fixed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402835
what is the deal on LTE for AT&T? Should I wait for the AT&T LTE version - or just go ahead and buy the UK version from Amazon?
I'm an ex-Streaker and have had my Note for about 2 days now (Euro/UK version) I love it. I was about to get a Galaxy Nexus but went into VZW on launch day, held up my Streak to it, and realized I can't go back to a smaller screen (4.65" in ICS is about 4.4" or so due to soft buttons).
I am a former Dell Streak owner / early adopter.
I chase new technology and when I heard of the Note I became consumed with interest.
My Streak was great. I used it a lot. Thankfully, I was able to sell it.
But... the Note is SO MUCH further beyond the Streak. The screen. The feel in hand. The speed. The camera. The OS. Leaps and bounds ahead of the Streak and it's not even close.
But... if I had a small complaint; the Note's side buttons are easy to hit in the gripping process. Sometimes the easy press is good. Sometimes not. But I'm learning to avoid them.
I used to own a streak, and now own a note. This phone really is what the streak should have been. All the djsteve roms couldn't make the streak a frustrationless phone, the note is without modding it.
Everybody thinking about jumping ship, do it!
AT&T
Sorry for all you guys having those issues, thats just awful the way this company has behaved.
Im on the 3 network in the uk, and i know 3 and vodafone allow complete tethering over here, so there never seems to be an issue over it, although 3 are the only network that give TRUE unlimited data to their subscribers.
I do not have home broadband, i do not see the need, my friends are on 21mbps Broadband and even at good times only achieve DL rates of 5mbps, i tether my NOTE via usb tethering and achieve between 6-10mbps DL rates.
Some months ive downloaded about 10 to 20 gig, so, i see no need to ever invest in broadband that will never match what i have now.
I did read that the AT&T issue is now resolved, fingers crossed for you all, the note is probably in the category of a HYBRID as the streak very much was, but this does not give AT&T the right to spoil your enjoyment of the digital age, i hope you guys across the pond have no further issues, its a shambolic statement of corporate America based on greed, but then ive never heard anyone say anything good about them.
Dont get me wrong guys, i dont mean to DIS the streak, for what it was it was nifty, in its day, but it didnt help that the makers were DELL, and the amount of flaws in the item straight from the box in the uk were awful, my friend had 4 on the trot replaced, upon turning it on straight from the box, BOOTLOOPS, lmao, she soon ditched it and demanded a blackberry, i dunno which is worse LOL, then theres the terrible screen issue made of FEATHER glass, drop it from more that 3 inches from the ground and thats ya screen done for..........
What i did love, was how easy it was to customise, flash, reflash, revert to stock, flash, Wow, it really was childs play, this phone really was unbrickable, and i think that was its best feature, but still were very lucky, if Dell had never made and failed with the streak we may never have seen the GNote, SAMSUNG YOU ROCK......GOD BLESS AMERICA, AT&T you suuucccckkkk mannnnn.
I still have my Streak but I really enjoy and like my Note.
Mine should be here Dec 23
Ordered it from Amazon, should be here Friday.
I was also one of those that emailed at&t, and got the same "we screwed up" calls from them saying that it was a computer issue, so after seeing others get the same response, fingers crossed...I ordered it.
One way or another, it WILL work, or at&t will get another call back (lady gave me a number to call back if I had issues)...
Bought my Streak Oct 2010, rooted it to install 2.2 after waiting for at&t to do something, Dell to do something and just did it myself. After various tweaks...it's about as far as I can go. It's been a pretty good device, never really had any issues other than pretty much zero carrier interest or manufacturer interest...when Michael Dell pretty much said screw Android, that was it for me.

Do they have LTE in your area? If that is a benefit to you, then hold off and hope at&t actually gets it here in the 1st quarter of 2012. Me personally, H+ is about all we'll have for a while, I don't see the market I'm in getting LTE until 2014, if their slow rollout of H then H+ was any indication. Most of the time, other than checking a few emails, maybe a webpage or weather radar, I use wi-fi or hot spots, so the LTE version wasn't a consideration. Also, the branded at&t version won't have the home button, but the 4 capacitive buttons like the streak does, that is if you believe the leaks on the net, plus, I don't think at&t has a branded android device with a home button? or maybe it has something to do with some goofy patent that Apple has LOL.

I considered the same thing, and got my Note just 2 weeks ago. (I'm in Baltimore)
We do have LTE here(baltimore city), though not where I live(though since I have wifi at home, that point is mute)
I decided to jump on the unlocked deal since I'm out of contract already, and wanted to use a iPad SIM for data only use. I use google voice for text/talk.
It's almost for sure that when ATT gets the Note it will have the snapdragon processor and NOT for exynos. It will possibly loose the physical home button. It will have horrible battery life(or at least worse then H+ version), just as Verizon LTE phones do.
I'm not willing to give those things up for ATT/locked down phone. H+ is very satisfying when browsing and watching netflix. Besides downloading files, I don't see where I need that kind of speed on the go. In Baltimore I get 6-7 down and 1.5-2 up. Not to shabby when I am just loading a few megabytes at a time to check gizmodo or watch a flick.
"Me too" - or rather I will be once the Note arrives. I have had a Streak since Autumn 2010 and it's been "ok" and I love the screen size - being large and fat fingered myself
I finally ordered the Note after seeing the official confirmation of support for ICS earlier this week. I bought from Amazon Germany on Tuesday and it's already showing it's with my local Citylink ("****tylink") this morning. About £100 cheaper from Germany than Amazon in the UK - or at least Amazon UK fulfilled.
I am looking forward to my Note as my Xmas present even if I was expecting it next week.
It arrived after some issue (Xmas I guess) where it lived in their depot in MK for 36 hours. First impressions: The screen is stunning. Same WxH as the Streak but thinner - once it's in it's cheapo case, it's still thinner.
Merry Xmas all

Upgrade to Note??? LOL!

Hey guys. Thread title is a pun on the other thread...
Anyway, looking for advice/opinions for my UPGRADE from SGS Epic on Sprint.
1. Is Int'l Note similiar hardware performance to galaxy SII. Kinda confusing with different specs on US and int'l models. Compare lag/performance to ATT Note? I played with one at Bestbuy. Kina laggy compared to Epic Touch. How much better is int'l Note. Do u like the home button??
2. Want to break subsidized phone and buy this from New egg for $500 and put on ST $45 plan. Wish it had 1700 band for T Mobile options. Like that GNexus pentaband! Hope the devs can get it going. Any probs with ST? Seems like the speeds I hear about blow away Sprint 3G speeds and are even better than Sprint 4G (if it worked and didn't sap battery). Just a little worried about service in SC, but I travel a lot (pilot) so I spend a lot of time in major cities. Sure I can live w/o LTE.
3. Is T mobile variant gonna have similar hardware, or be more like Att model?
4. Love to hear all comparisons/opinions to other options: GNex or SII. I read/browse a lot so love the screen concept. Also value battery, performance, SD card, camera, speaker and earpiece volumes. Any input/comparissons on these features.... APPRECIATED!!!

i cant live without the net
i am always on the move
i just cant carry a laptop or even a 7-10 inch tablet on the go
i love my phones
when i saw the hd2 i fell in love with 4.3 inch screen instantly
and the hd2 has been my great partner
from wm to froyo to gingerbread to ics and now ics with hwa
i could not have ever asked for more
and yet again when i saw the 5.3 inch note my heart again mised a beat
i was in love all over again the screen was gorgeous
and i am a very satisfied and proud owner of both my phones
and talking of girls my daughter -23 swooned when she saw the note
she said dad i want one too and dont you tell me its too big as i carry a big bag.
I moved from GS2 to Note and I'm very happy with the Note. The big screen and bigger keyboard means I can use it for longer without any discomfort. The Pen is useful too. I just couldn't go back to a smaller screen now. Sold my Motorolla Xoom as the Note doubles so well as a smaller tablet. It's a great device.
