Im trying to figure out how to categorize my stock browser bookmarks and appscreen to be alphabetical. I think I have tried everything known to man. Im not that familiar with Android. My first android was an EVO. Being that the device was just released on Sprint there is not much to search on it. If someone could help me out that would be much appreciated.

Hello everyone!
Just recently I got the 2.2 OTA for my Droid (rooted) and I'm absolutely loving it, except for one thing: the new MMS app. I strongly dislike the new look; I don't want to see my own profile icon and I definitely don't want to see several of each icon. I really liked the way the Eclair MMS app looked, and I really liked seeing my friends' facebook statuses next to their contact icon.
I've tried replacing the Froyo Mms.apk with the Eclair Mms.apk, which could display everything and worked perfectly fine except for when I actually went to send a message. It would force close and never show that the message actually sent, even though I got replies back, so I know they sent. Also, in order to get this to work, I had to remove Mms.odex. Once I saw that the Eclair app displayed everything and seemed to work fine, I (foolishly) erased my backup of Mms.odex and now I can't run the standard Froyo Mms.apk. Luckily, I did find a modified app that I can use in the meantime, so I'm not totally out of luck right now.
Is there any way to get the old Eclair MMS app/look back? I would REALLY love it! And please don't just suggest Handcent or Chomp. I've tried them and I just don't like them. I went through all the styling and customization options and I just couldn't get it to look like I want. All I want is the old Eclair app back, not alternatives (unless they look almost identical to Eclair's). If it's impossible, I guess I'll deal with it, but "impossible" and "Android" don't really go together...
Thanks in advance!
edit:
I attached two screenshots taken out of an emulator, just in case anyone isn't familiar (why you'd need to see them, I dunno, but I figure more info is better).
Bump. This is a good question. I hadn't really even though about how much better the 2.1 vs 2.2 SMS/MMS app. I knew there was something different but thank you for laying it out. I'm having a problem where the app isn't posting my icon. It is synced with my Facebook contacts so I don't see why it doesn't show my avatar, and if it isn't supposed to then why even change it? No sir, I don't like it. If there is any way to downgrade to the earlier messaging app I would very much be interested in knowing.

if its the problerm im thinking of, you need to make a Me contact, and put your picture there
Shameless bump. Still driving me crazy. Hoping there's an alternative by now?
Hi Guys
Long time reader of these forums and have used the guides provided here numerous times. This is my first time post and it's a bit of a noob question but after looking around the forums, I haven't been able to provide a concrete answer.
I remember reading about Facebook integration with Android 2.0+ but could someone clarify how vanilla android interacts with Facebook? I am a huge fan of HTC Sense being able to pull down my friends info into my contacts. Also is there a way by which I can back up all my apps and contacts so that when I've flashed a new ROM I can just restore the data?
Again I apologise for the basic questions, but I couldn't seem to find any solid answer through my searches and I'm itching to put 2.2 on my legend.
Much appreciated
Linking Facebook and Google-Contacts works in 2.* as far as the names are the same. Ihaven't found a function like in sense where you can directly point to a specific FB-contact and link it to a google or phone-contact as you want. Regarding your second question, your contacts will be saved @google if you use a googleaccount, for backing up your settings and programs go with TitaniumBackup but your handset has to be rooted for this.
Thanks ^_^ I realised what I'd asked about the contacts only after I'd posted it >.< but all the same thanks for the info
Just btw, which fb app are you using (this goes to everyone) ?
Not a single one I tried so far was good enough.
I have the official fb for android but it doesn't display message whole threads when they are too long and when i click on a notification, it opens up in the browser.
Then i tried fb browser, but that one can't open youtube vids. It tries to open them itself instead of opening them in the yt app, but I'm unable to click on the play button.
the rest is either a copy of these 2, or comletely useless.
Sent from my Legend
I just stick with the default android one...the lesser of the evils out there. But I agree with you in that the apps aren't as good as they could be. Who knows, maybe Facebook will announce some android related news at their mobile event today
I'm using the official one. There is an update, just installed it today. There is now finaly places and when clicking in the notification, no more webbrowser with touch.facebook.com is opened.
Ok guys and gals. Is anyone else tired of having to reload all your widgets every time you change a theme or rom update. By the way Fission Rom and TeamDefuse deserve a round of drinks. And yes I donate before any ask. Ok back to the problem.
Can one of the talented devs out there develop an app to back up widgets and homescreens? NOT just widget locations but the entire widget with functionality.
or
Maybe someone knows if this app already exist and they could point me in that direction.
Thanks
I second this! would love to have this. hell i have more widgets than shortcuts lol so this would def help me out.
As far as I know it isn't possible at all, unless Gingerbread changed something in some of the API's or something like that.
Really not possible. I have faith that someone can figure it out. I have seen the impossible made possible. Just takes enough folks to be annoyed long enough. If they made it possible to run Android on WinMo phone from the SD card this should be easy, I would guess...
I've had the S2 for a week or two now and I'm finding my main gripe with it is selecting text in the browser.
If you've written a block of text, or several sentences (whatever), I find tapping your sentence to place the cursor at a specific point utterly hit and miss. It's really, really hard to get it where you want it.
I mostly use the stock browser as it's way faster than any other I've tried (Dolphin and Firefox), but this is driving me insane. It's not quite as bad in Dolphin, but it's still pretty bad.
I have to say, the iPhone is way ahead when it comes to placing the cursor where you want it. I'm hanging for a mod that uses the little magnifying glass thing that the iPhone has.
Is anyone else bothered by this and found a solution?
Thanks
Simon
Ah ha!
Tried Opera Mini just now and it worked perfectly! The problem, then, appears to be the browsers.
Whatever, I'm just glad one of them works as it should

Yep...i had the same grief..... its a pain in the arse.
Same so used to iphone browser. Ill try opera mini
One of the few things I wish they would nick from the iPhone. HTC have done it with their new versions of Sense, why can't Google do it with Android in general or Samsung with their devices?
Love em or hate em but I really miss the trackball on the N1. Both for this reason and being able to quicly nab closely spaced link without zooming.
You could download the Gingerbread Keyboard App in the market and use the included D-Pad. I can't live without it.
Regards.
I use gingerbread keyboard and I don't think it has a d-pad..!

Isn't this a generic Android issue as I have encountered it on all the Android phones I have owned as far as I can remember?
Keep in mind the stock browser uses hardware acceleration. I'd guess that anything else is going to be slower.
It's annoying as hell! Anyone else getting this? Every time I open a new window it opens all the way, then reloads... If I open a link in a new tab the original window also reloads. This is on the stock browser and had been doing this from day 1 on the phone before root or anything. I like stock and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and knows of a fix besides using a different browser apk. Thanks!

yeah...its annoying to me. I quit chrome because of it.
If youre rooted...try the AOSP browser with bookmarks sync I posted in the themes section. Its a better browser than sammys or chrome anyway. Its faster...and the double tap zoom is perfect. Thats why I prefer it over the other browsers.
