-------------------
My G Sensor on my Tab is really bad..
and i can't play games like Doodle jump..
How can i fix this?
- Maybe with Terninal Emulator?
I talk with Samsung, and they just say that i shall send it to service..
Sorry for poor english.

Hi
I have exaclty same problem, sensor are badly calibrated.
Can t play doodle jump... (I know, life is difficult)
Any idea to calibrate it?
Thank and regards
Matt

Hi,
Try Google Sky in landscape position ;-)
Poor or bad calibration !

Have the same issue. 2 Degrees x, 6 in y direction.
No feedback from Samsung service up to now.
BR
Peter

There is a sensor self test - dialpad *#0*#

Thx, but a selfetest does not solve the problem
Calibration would help....
Anyone any idea, someone knows how Samsung would repair this, via Software or do they have to change ´some hardware?!
BR
Peter

My tab also has the g-sensor problem. I tried two tab and both of them has different degree of G-sensor problem, I think the G-sensor problem caused by samsung's inaccurated calibration. I would also want to know the way to calibrate the sensor by myself, anyone can help?

This is the first thing I noticed when I buyed the tab. The gsensor is off, it often changes to landscape or portrait when only a little inclination is given.

Yeah I just download that free 'level bubble' app.
Pitch off by 2 degrees
Tilt off by 4 degrees

Noticed the same on mine. Not a big issue for me. Hopefully it will be addressed

Dicussion today with Samsung Service Hotline,
try full hardware reset, if that does not help send it to repair it.
Tomorrow ill have the chance to talk to a technical guy.
Keep u update.
Peter

Today discussion result.
1.) Wait for software upgrade, known issue, no info for release of new
Software
2.) Exchange Hardware. If lucky new ist ok, if unlucky change again.

Wasn't there a method to calibrate on the galaxy s? Would it work

Means if u dont want to do unofficial Firmware update, not to loose ur warranty, there is no solution.
Anyhow good info, means no hardware defect.
Peter

You can calibrate it with 3d compass apply in the market. It has a calibration option that should work fine.
P.d Samsung service has to be amongst the worst in the world. Will they ever solve anything?

Hey which developer is 3d compass by?
Sent from my SGH-T849

Its probably to calibrate the compass (magnetic North)
I use spirit level plus (by Androidika) which has calibration but only within the app itself which means you place the tab on a level surface and hit the calibration button and it 'zeros' everything out. I doubt it calibrates the internal sensors.

Tried both, but calibration only works inside the app.
Try to get any statement from t-mobile our Samsung on monday
If someone has a solution....
Br
Peter

Ok,
finaly T Mobile sent me mail.
Software Update to come, no but no idea when...
In the meantime use "official" Firmware from Samsung and flash it (even if not offered via Kies).
Anyone can tell me what is the latest "official" firmware for European device?
Got already feedback from other user, that with a flashed ??6? version there is a botton to calibrate..
thx

Save power and feel better (for people with cases)

Hello guys. As promised, im releasing a closed beta of Killswitch on XDA. Its a utility designed for tablet devices that will give you a more intuitive user experience by sending the device to sleep when certain sensor conditions have been met.
In effect it means that you can put your device into standby by shutting the case or turning the device over if youre already in a dark room.
For more details, check out the thread HERE.
The app thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988126
We accept anyone, but reserve the right to choose based on post count, join date and general XDA experience.
Posted in Galaxy Tab forums because this is where we come from
Bump - we need more testers!
Count me in. This is a great initiative. I have a Galaxy Tab with a Zenus flip portfolio style case.
Please by definition of 'xda-pro' user I hope you are not measuring this based on the amount of spam they spread in these forums, as this could potentially exclude your best testers. It's constructive feedback your after, not persistent noise or complaining, right?

No we are not... but we will be looking through peoples post history because of recent security issues with XDA betas. Its not enough, but we need testers.
In any case, we have tested it on the tab extensively in the last couple of weeks (we have 4 at the office), and there are almost no issues.
Hi. I'd also be happy to test something like this. I have many different cases: one of the ones that covers just the back and sides (so no trigger there), a cheap red leather book type, a white plastic one that forms a shell or a stand, the Samsung leather easel with D30 and the Otterbox Defender.
Thanks for the beta. Here's my feedback. Worked very well. Especially, my screen timeout being 10 minutes (because of e-reader) it seemed like a useful app. Also, it always gives the option of locking or not locking, which is useful. Now, the bad part. Noticed that my tab was unusually warm, battery was draining fast, checked consumption: 13%. Uninstalled. Hope you can fix this.
Hi everyone! A big thanks to all the beta testers! Just to let you know that the app will be avaliable in the android market from around 4PM GMT today.
n2s2k2india - regarding your power consumption issue, we have not experienced this on any of our devices. In fact, Killswitch does not even register on both my Xoom and Galaxy Tab. Looking at the spare parts battery use on both devices its 0.1 to 0.15 of total battery consumption...
by the way, the app is now on the market
Well done on getting this app released. Promise I'm not sour grapes for not being chosen as a beta tester! I've just installed from the market and unfortunately, it's not looking too good so far. So far, I have the following issue.
Both light and proximity sensor is flakey. Light sensor has worked once and not again. Can't get proximity to register. Accelerometer works though.
And just a question, is this app supposed to disable screen shutoff due to inactivity?
I'm using Roto JMIv2 if that helps.

Hello!
Im sorry youre having trouble with Killswich... lets see if we can do something about that!
Please update to the latest version if you havent already.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab does not have a proximity sensor (although the system reports it, this is just a glitch from the Galaxy S phones). This means you should be using the light sensor and the accelerometer. Your settings for the Tab should something be like this:
Enable Killswitch: tick
Admin Permissions: tick
Confirmation time: 10sec
Activation delay: 6sec
No-lock: Disable screen lock
Use proximity: no tick
Use light sensor: tick
Sensitivity: 10%
Use accelerometer: no tick
These are the settings Im using right now and they work perfectly.
The point of the app is also to avoid accidental sleep mode in a dark room through the popup dialog. Do not choose "Use accelerometer" unless you plan on using both light sensor and facedown at the same time. Instead, choose "Enable facedown mode only" if you see the popup dialog while using the tab in a dark room - this will disable the light sensor but enable facedown until you next swich on/ off.
Please dont hesitate to write again, or provide a logcat if the light sensor continues to malfunction.
I recommend to disable light sensor usage in killswitch, if your device provides proximity sensor, for better results.
Could we have a add supported version for free as well. If you need more testing i would be happy to test it on my wildfire

Hello everyone! Could those using the app on their Tabs provide us some feedback regarding its compatibility with roms that are floating about?
Also, Im sorry but we will not be providing an ad-supported version. For one thing, there is nowhere to put the ads without wrecking the general aesthetic, and for another ad support is not economically viable. Android programmers have obscene salaries
Its only $1.99 - if you own an android device you can most certainly afford it.
Same issue

I just purchased and installed the app on my Sprint Tab with similar results. Accelerometer works great but the light sensor doesn't register. I have adjusted the sensitivity from 10% -> 0% -> 100% with no affect. I even thought that maybe I needed to have the brightness set to auto but that too did not work.
When I tried to move over into direct light (12 inches from a bulb) the sensor worked right away at 10%. As I walked back over to my desk in a dim corner, the device went to sleep again. Once in the dim corner, the sensor could not differentiate between dim and closed case. I'm using the official Samsung case FYI.
I don't know if this helps you any but thought I would post my experiences. For the price I love the app if nothing more than for the Accelerometer and No Lock features. Keep up the good work!
Hi. Please read the help and tips section carefully. Killswitch is not a solution, its a hack. If you want it to work well, you have to understand how it works. Sprint tabs are exactly the same as any euro model, and we have had nothing but positive reviews from everyone with galaxy tabs in europe.
I made this app for myself. I have a gsm tab running overcome and everything works flawlessly.
+1 on the lightsensor problem, working one out of ten times i close the lid....

that's not true is it? i beta tested this app and i couldn't get the light sensor to work either with stock roms or modded one's and I wasn't the only one.
it was very hit and miss and per the feedback provided with logs!
Seems to me the light sensor method just isnt enough on the tab all credit for other devices, but the tab just doesn't work correctly with it.
Never mind, looks like my gt has problems with the light sensor...... I'm using richardtrips kernel with the sensor fix but......

Im not sure where these problems youre having stem from. We have 3 tabs at the office, two stock and one overcome, and they all work flawlessly!
And of course those who beta tested but never sent us logcats, we would at least have tried to fix your problems...

Nexus Compass failing

Compass is not working (model 9023 Dutch). I'am not the only one reporting this. Apps like streetview are not working in compass mode.
When running GPS status the needle is pointing everywhere but the right direction. Callibrate does not work.
Anybody an idea if this a hardware or software issue?
there have been reports that the nfc chip affects the compass. try removing the back to see if it helps. though the back plate is only one part of the nfc system i think.
I tried it without the backcover with no results. Nfc is turned of btw because its of no use in holland.
me too..my i9023 have the bug..
who is same too?
You should star this issue so Google is urged to fix it!

compass needs calibration
Hi,
I have the same problem on i9023, the compass needs calibration after each boot... without calibration the compass is stuck...
In which file calibration results are stored ? because those results seem lost when the phone is turned off
I gave up. The compass is a failing in every way. I could sent it back, but there are reports that a replacement has the same issues. The sensors are a piece of crapp or the software can not handle them properly. Either way this sucks.

Compass not working
Hey,
I've tried calibrating the compass on my Nexus S numerous times.
We have 4 Nexus S' in the house, each with the same problem.
Compass never calibrates.
Google SkyMap doesn't work because of this issue.
Does anyone know if there is a fix?
I've noticed some links to report it to google so that's what I'll do but does anyone know why this is happening? I tried the backplate removal, nothing.
On all 4 phones I am running : I9020, KD1, GRJ22. Android 2.3.4
Hi, you can return your phone(s) because its a design failure. But I didn't because the nexux S is still a great phone. There a threads about this issue, but amazingly enough not that many that samsung or google feel the urge to take action. I would expect massive complaints, but probally a compass is not a first requirement for many people. Strange because even Maps is not working good if you navigate during walking.

Compass issue question

Hey all.
I did some searching but couldn't find if a resolution has occurred. Has anyone made a fix for the compass being off its axes? I use 3d compass. When I tilt right, the on-screen compass points up. Etc.
I know this was once discussed. Would exchanging it solve that issue?

I believed this issue is with the developer of the software...
software that were made for phone should be updated for tablet & especially Honeycomb ... as the accelerometer/compass is reverse..etc
some appz can run on tablet properly... but it also need to support HC ( not just froyo/Gingerbread only )
there were some games that were like this ( opposite/upside down... ).... dev updated their software and it works fine in tablet
Oh that's great. Is there a good app to test the tablets compass?
It is strange that vendetta online wasn't an app that was playable due to the compass. Seems like that was all the hype for this tablet.

Try gps status in the market! It's free, does good stuff!
GPS status works ok, but remember to calibrate the compass (wave it around in a figure 8) each time you try to use it. GPS essentials does NOT work, the compass is off by 90 degrees.

Accelerometer calibration on Honeycomb?

Ever since i've had my Iconia the accelerometer has been off by miles. I'm unable to find a way to calibrate it, does anyone know of one?

Acer put out a calibration tool. But, I would not advise using it. It also calibrates a few other things, and had been known to brick a couple of tabs.

I am not trying to be rude but did you try calibrating it correctly, i say that because a friend of mine had the same issue with a galaxy s2 on multiple roms and after a complete calibration everything was fine, and i realy mean g sensor not giro

yes, calibration has done several times, there is no signal from mems g-sensor....
I have a strong feeling it's soldered onto the mainboard by machine with very precise and small leads, I doubt it is doable for humans to be able to do it.
progress?
Anyone found the position of the G-sensor?
Mine isn't working, also the compass is not working. I tried all possible callibration options i found searching with google.
