Not sure why but my phone ever since I permanent rooted it has been stuck on sync unless I turn off background data. Anybody else have this problem?
Just for more detail I did remove some blaotware from my phone. I removed the peep app, friebdstream, all demo games and some themes.

I turned off sync for news, stock, tmobile, etc.... I left google, twitter, etc.... on and sync rarely comes on for me.

The only one that keeps syncing for me is the facebook account. I set it to synching once a day but it still syncs every time I reboot the phone. Happened to me before rooting too, don't think that's the problem.

hey guys - I'm also having this problem. Have you found a fix for it at all? My Facebook is the one constantly syncing as well. I usually just go in and hit "cancel sync" under Accounts.
I'm insane when it comes to what's running on my phone, what's syncing, etc. So if anyone was going to see "constant syncing" when it isn't supposed to be, it would be me.
What is your sync interval set to?

I don't need Facebook updates that often and I really only use the sync to have Facebook contact info (for contact pics/avatars). I keep mine at 8 hours and I haven't noticed it "syncing all the time."
Do you have any "splats" on your Accounts & Sync? You know, like when it's unable to sync and says, "Unable to sync since xx/xx/xxxx"?
I would check for any red indicators that are trying to let you know sync is unavailable. That should only be a temporary issue, if it's happening, but there are times when Google or Facebook can't and won't sync and deleting the cache/app data usually clears things up.
Hey guys I am having the same problem. I already unchcked all data and automatic sync... For some reason it continues to sync. I went into every single one of my accounts and nothing shows that it is syncing. Even unchecking every box doesnt help. It still syncs.
Thoughts?

Can you post a screen shot of your Accounts & Sync screen showing that each account is still syncing, even though you have either Auto-sync un-checked...
Or any of the sync options un-checked...
My schedule is set to once a day. Once it starts syncing, it never finishes. I don't have any issues with it saying it can't sync though. I also noticed it tends to kick off Google's contact sync. The weird thing is the google one just shows the sync icon, but it isn't spinning. What does that mean?

Well.. I would rather try taking a vifeo for you. It doesn't actually show that anything is syncing with the little circle next to it. Even going through all my accounts turning off data etc... It will remain syncing at the top. When I go into Settings, applications, running, all, and force stop the calendar.. THe sync in notification bar goes right away. That is how I know it has to be the calendar. It eventually comes back.
I have already master reset 3 times. Tried different gmail accounts and everything.
I think I'm having the same problem as vom - nothing is syncing under those menus.

Can you go into each one of the accounts at that time and take a screen shot? You might want to obfuscate your email addresses and such, but I think in order to verify what we're talking about, we should see the sync up top, while NOT seeing a sync within each account. That's what I'd really like to see.
I know that you have Background and Auto un-checked, but I'd like to see the "detail" within each account, as it might point to an error or a reason why those accounts are trying to sync.
Also, is anyone else who's experiencing this "issue" using Exchange ActiveSync? Just trying to spot trends.
It's not doing the sync thing right now, but I can tell you there are no syncing icons under each account. I'll try to nab some shots when it goes into sync mode again
mine is doing this....it's the facebook contacts that seems to be constantly syncing
it never really stops, but never gives an error

Just tried this one.
It works but it adds the contacts 2-3 times and no pictures...
It sais to me: Sync is currently expecting problems. It will be back soon.
However, it does not look like it will be any soon
If I use Market FB application for sync, it adds friends but without pictures.
I saw this problem mentioned in czech android forum, they are having the same problem since friday. So I think its some server related problem which will be fixed soon.

Sweet... better try to have some patience then. Not my strong side
i synchronized yesterday with the stock app and everything is OK, all contacts with pictures....
I am having the same problem.
Calender sync. seems to work.
contacts not worked for several days.
However, it is strange that not everyone has these problems.
I can also synchronize everything but contacts (History and Activities are working)
Maybe its depending on the ROM you have installed. The European Version seems to have the problem, that syncing Facebook contacts is not possible, without installing the facebook app. But if you cync with the app, you have the problem, that the number of linked people is rising with the reboots you are doing....
Have a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742229
So for me, with JF3 Rom and kernel-version 2.6.29 its not possible to sync with facebook...
Very sad!
Worked until yesterday on JM5 with Samset 1.9b.
But after I reflashed it i can't sync. Same ROM and all.. strange.
I remember on my old HTC Magic, i could sync my contacts to their facebook pages, i cant seem to do this on my SGS although i can sync my facebook contacts to my phonebook...
Any idea's?
The problem suddenly arose for me too just the other day. Then I had JM2, no root or other fixes.
Now I'm sitting on JM5 + SamSet 1.9b + lag fix and the problem is still there. I'm just assuming that there are some sever issues atm. I'm from sweden so the theory that it is european-related still holds.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Yeah must be something server related.
Tried removing the Samsung Mobile app from facebook and letting it install again. But did´t help either.
Same problem for me, even with the stock JF3 firmware. Now I'm on JM5 and still the same. I hope either FB or Samsung are aware of the issue and are trying to fix it.
I'm from France by the way.
Hi Guys, I'm on XWJM5, I got my issue resolved, posted at another thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747106
the issue begin after Facebook release version 1.3.1 for Android.
Check the following thing
1. At your Facebook sync (under "More account" setting), select "Don't sync"
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2. Add new Facebook Account under "Integrated Contact Account" (in red box) for contact sync. (please continue to do your own setup after the selection is done)
please share with us if that solve your issue.
This does not solve the problem.
I still get: Sync is not available at the moment. It will be back soon.
I had the same issue and fixed it two or three days ago.
It seems the sync in the new 1.3.1 app from the market has issues (probably just with SGS) but can sync contacts (sometimes repeatedly) without any other data like pics. I tried to resolve this several times using the new 1.3.1 version and failed. To resolve my problem I had to:
1. Remove the Facebook account sync entries in Settings > Accounts and Sync > section
2. Uninstall Facebook app 1.3.1
3. Manually add the SGS inbuilt Facebook sync and resync contacts (getting pics etc back)
4. Reinstall Facebook app 1.3.1 from the market, and go through the sign-in wizard, saying 'don't sync' at when questioned.
Now using downloaded app, with inbuilt sync client and it seems to be fine.
PS: The older inbuilt client uses a brighter blue icon with rounder edges and graduated colour - this way you can tell which is which in the account sync area.
Anyone else want to try?
Anyone know how to remove the T-Mobile Sync option? When ever I add a new contact it adds it to T-Mobile sync and not to google.
You are talking about two different things:
1. saving new contacts to t-mobile account is default, you cannot change that. But before you save your contact you can choose from a pull down menu to save it in your google account. Next time you add another contact it defaults to t-mobile again. It sucks and is the only things that really bothers me.
2.syncing with t-mobile account...your t-mobile contacts are synced with the t-mobile server....you can stop the syncing by going to the account and sync menu. you can stop the syncing but you cannot remove the t-mobile account completely.
ahh I was hoping to uninstall it but that will do... thank you!

as am i, hopefully someone finds the service or .apk name for that because if someone who rooted the phone and wants to use it on a diff carrier doesnt need that sync account in there.
###As usual backup all your data and I'm in no way responsible if you brick your phone. It shouldn't because I just finished this on mine and it works fine.###
Now I found a way and just did it on my MT4G. Grab root explorer or similar if you don't have it. Open it and use the search for "nab" anything that comes up I.E. that says tmobile.nabservice blah blah blah. There was like 4-5 files for me one zip, obex, and a few others delete em all then your done. The Tmobile sync account is gone and the default contact save is the first account you set up for in sync.
How do you know it automatically saves it to your "tmobile" account? because i have auto sync unchecked for tmobile, and when i go into the settings for my contacts i have everything unchecked except google contacts...but under tmobile contacts it says ZERO

This is true regardless of if you have T-Mobile syncing or not (I have mine disabled 'cause who the heck needs T-Mobile contacts?)
I posted in the thread that led me here, but I wanted to ask Keldarr or anyone who has done the removal of all-things-Nab - does Phone show up as the default Contact Type? Instead of deleting anything to do with Nab, I just froze the NabService via Titanium...
This gets T-Mobile out of the list of Contact Types, but now Phone is the default - not the Google account I wish to be the default. I wanted to see if those who have deleted all traces of Nab, have Phone as a Contact Type and if it is the default.
How strange, in my case it saves by default to my Google account every time I create a new contact. Check your display settings.

Slow reply sorry for me my default contact save is the first gmail account i added. not sure what it would be if u didn't have a sync account besides t-mobiles sync but id assume it would be phone until u add a google account.
ok, so we've had push notifications for quite some time now, since 2.2
does anyone know the reason why SO many apps(big ones, too) seem to refuse to implement push notifications?
facebook says they have them, but they've never worked for me ever. and there's no settings for them. only for polling
official twitter app still polls
words with friends polls
etc
do these devs just not want to add in support for 2 sets of phones? 2.2+ and everyone below 2.2?
i can't think of any reason why this happens, but its a huge issue in my eyes. android phones get bad enough battery life as is.
if you go into facebook and enable notifications but set poll time to never you get push notifications
Tried it. It's never worked on my n1, and I know I'm not the only one.
My gf gets them on her sensation though
Don't use Facebook as an example. Their app is pure garbage. Lots of apps use Push. Trillian, Skype, Talk, eBuddy, etc...
Yes but my point is lots of apps also don't use push still. Apps that are updated regularly. It makes no sense to me that devs are seemingly ignoring it.
My thoughts exactly. Does it cost more to implement push notification?
Twitter app is updated. Says they added push, yet, just like the facebook app, there are 0 settings for push and only options for polling
I don't ****ing get it. These companies must put their A and B teams on iphone apps and their H teams on android

There are options for Twitter. They're just buried under each account.
http://techcrunch.com/2011/07/13/tw...upports-multiple-profiles-push-notifications/
Also, you must be running your own H team since the term is pull, not poll.

Google search must be incredibly wrong then
The only options under the profile are for polling (the correct term. it periodically polls the server for updates). Just like the facebook one there's no sign of any push options anywhere

ok, so apparently "automatic refresh" means push notifications? thats so misleading. it's not refreshing anything, then
yet there is still an option to set how often it polls the server, with no option for never
ugh
either way, this still backs up my point that they have ****ty devs making these apps
I'm pretty sure this is a feature for people who follow hundreds, if not thousands, of people who don't want to be pushed a notification every second of every day. They must figure that people with a lot of followers would rather see a big chunk of updates at once rather than being notified to death.
And yes, "Automatic Refresh" doesn't sound like push notification at all but that's just part of the crummy UI of the official twitter app.

Trust me i've tryed and it works for me and a lot of my friends, to enable Facebook push notifications:
1 kill the application in "application manager" and erase data and cache.
2 Go to facebook.com with pc and deactivate your account (don't worry you won't lose anything)
3 after a minute log in again with the pc
4 and now log in with you phone
Now it should work.
Try and tell me if it works. i've set the update period to 4 hours.

Dang... I was really, really hoping this would work. I deleted the data for the app on my phone and deactivated my facebook account. I then reactivated my account and then logged in in my phone. I have since had 2 facebook notifications show on the web browser, but I have yet to have any sort of notification on my phone.
This has been especially bad since the gmail app no longer allows other apps to see the email, which knocked out my "push" notifications for facebook from Friendcaster Pro. Grr... I just want push notifications.

I hoped it would work to. No such luck. I did the deactivate thing and don't see any change.
Let's start with te facts:
I live in the Netherlands and haven't modified my N9005 in any way. No root, no custom roms. Everything is stock.
Last friday I got an OTA for the KitKat update. Installing went fine.
After a while, troubles were starting.
First thing that went wrong was an error "android.process.acore stopped". This message started an couldn't be stopped anymore. Even after a reboot I still got the same error over and over again. I tried all fixes I could find on the internet, but ended up with resetting my phone to factory setting
After soms hours of reinstalling my phone, my phone keeps crashing. Out of the blue my phone freezes and then reboots. This happens about 5 times a day.
I also got an error when I opened my SViewCover (com.sec.android.sviewcover stopped).
And now I discovered that Samsung made a change in the email app. Normally I only received the last 50 mails. This way I could reduce my data usage a lot. I have a mailbox where I receive more then 1000 emails a day. Now Samsung removed this option and stared downloading up to 5000 messages. Also the default is to load max 50kb per email. Because of this I used 600MB in this weekend alone!
Does anybody else have the same issues and maybe found a solution?

Yeah im not too happy with the changes made as well. The thing I dislike the most is that now you have to have the sync toggle on to manual sync. In 4.3 I would use the sync toggle for push emails and manual when its off.
EDIT: I can see now you said you get 1000 emails a day! What I wrote below won't help, sorry.
To get to your issue: the only solution I can think of (without looking for another email app) is to change the "Period to sync email" to the shortest setting*, which would be a day. This is how I've got my spammed email set up, so when it does sync it doesn't use up loads of battery or data.
Email (app)/settings/accountsettings/"your email username"/syncsettings/period to sync emails:
I wish Samsung in future wouldn't try fixing something that isn't broken.
* the shortest sync setting will sync more than a day if you need it to, by that I mean you just get a day at a time when you sync. Sync twice and you'll get two days worth of emails.

Tnx for your response. Unfortunately your suggestion won't fix my problem indeed.
I really liked the default email client because of the good integration and PGP support. But alternatives as K-9 are also quite good.
My biggest worries are the continues crashes. I really get frustrated by that. At this moment I can't use my phone for the wake-up alarm. After a reboot my phone asks for my pincode (what I really don't want to turn off). I really hope Samsung will come up with a solution. That's why I "hope" that more people have this issue so Samsung will take it seriously.
Gmail has been killing my battery for almost 2 days, I haven't changed a single setting in the Gmail app or any account info, but it seems that with the new update Google messed up the Gmail app.
I charged the phone before going to sleep, and then went to bed to see the drain overnight (I usually do this to see if something is wrong), and when I woke up, I had a drain of about 15% overnight when usually I have around 5%.

Besides this, it seems that the app itself is behaving real bad, I usually turn off sync when I'm not on my home or work, and today I received a mail when sync off.
Have any of you guys have a similar experience?.

Solution
It seems that there are some problems with no Gmail accounts and sync, so I deleted manually all the accounts, deleted the cache and the data of the Gmail app and re added everything. It has been a day and it seems that the problems is gone.

It seems weird this update, everyday is the same, and although battery life in Maxx is really good, this still is a big problem.

You likely have an account that is stuck in the syncing/refreshing phase. I'd suspect its a non-gmail account.
Clear data from Gmail and then force stop it. Then open it up and let it resync.

I already tried to do that since the last update, also rebooting the phone and more over, to force the stop in the app and cleared the cache also.
Besides, this shouldn't be happening, I mean, the only change in the last few days was the update, so it's likely that the problem is that.
I have also researched on internet, and it seems that couple of people is also reporting it.

I use Gmail and no problem so far. I always leave sync off and swipe down to refresh. Here's a screen shot from this morning.

Problem is that even with sync off, I'm still receiving mail; that's why I think that the update is messed up.

I have the update but I have HD voice turned off, don't know why that would matter. I almost forgot, I also removed most of the apps listed in the "Apps to Remove for Pure Android" thread.
Try uninstalling gmail reboot then install gmail once back booted up.

How many other accounts do you have synced with Gmail? Maybe try removing the accounts one by one until your battery drain goes away.

I also disabled many apps that I don´t use, but I don´t think this matters for the problem I have.

I have 1 Gmail, 1 Outlook and 1 Yahoo account, I will try to see if this could fix the problem.

You do know gmail now allows to link other emails right? u can use hotmail, outlook, and yahoo via gmail app.
What I have done, is install a third party app (cloud magic) and use it for all my email accounts.
I actually have both my email and gmail apps disabled.

I prefer to use the stock apps, just to feel the stock Android experience.

I tried to delete cache and the data, re added the accounts again and it seems that it solved the drain.
