Does anyone know if this works with the HTC Legend, I haven't come across any half decent themes for the HTC Legend but a lot of other phones/roms have an abundance of creativity in terms of themes, is it possible to use themes from other phones and use them with the HTC Legend.
Simply because we cannot theme our Legend. And no, you cannot use those themes on your Legend.
You can theme the Legend, it's just a little more difficult than it is with other phones. If you use themes from other phones, which you'll have to, I'd advise having a quick poke around in whatever theme package you want to use, check out if it changes anything phone specific.
MDPI/HVGA themes should at least half work, they *might* need modfication to work properly. Flashable .zip files would be best, but if you find metamorph themes you're gonna have to use a /system overlay for it to work.
Make sure you do a nandroid backup before you try anything, and let the community know what works and what doesn't! (Themes and apps section).

I was trying to tort Minimal Matte to our Legends with Cyanogenmod 6.1 RC1 but when i was pushing the framework-res.apk to phone, nothing was changing.
So I pulled the framework-res.apk back to my computer using adb. The changes were not applied Even if i was trying to replace an app in system/app/ . Are these folders secured or something so we can't apply themes ? What am I doing wrong ?
We have NAND protection, we can't write anything in /system without being in recovery mode

Woww Thanks Just searched for that answer one week. So I only have to boot into recovery mode and I am good to go ?
Edit: if I am pushing it in Recovery mode (the thing with the red signal sign ! ) Nothing is changing in System. If I am flashing it while system is running, it changes the wallpaper to default_wallpaper.jpg from framework-res.apk but in Recovery mode nothing is changing. Any Ideas ? Thank you!
Try mounting /system before pushing

I have tried to do:
Adb shell
Mount /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
But i got error.

You need to be in clockworkmod recovery - then use the menus in that to mount /system

Care to write a step-by-step guide from start to end so that many more Legend owners can enjoy Minimal Matte on their device?
Ok I will make a guide for all themes using theme porter for Legend. I will update this post as soon as I have the Link.

Go to shell?
Kind of a newbie when it comes to codes and commands, just need a push in the right direction

I´ve editet the first post. you have to push in adb while the desire must be in recovery mode.
"adb push "directoryof the file u loaded"/com.htc.resource.apk /system/framework"
Don't you mean com.htc.resources.apk?
Works great here.
yeah it's working, very beautiful, big thanks,

I don't see the little green trackbar that's on the original phone and programs button.
Meh that's a minor detail though isn't it.
Well, yeah it is. But I just got my desire and I'm planning on designing some themes for it. Just trying to work out what can be skinned and what can't.
Have some ideas on what I would change the green trackbar to but none yet as to how to change it!
would it be possible to edit the right shortcut? instead of add widget a internet link would be nice

i have been asking this question since day 1..and no honest reply
I'd love to know how to skin android full stop I cant even get my hd2 to connect in usb mode
well...the only way to apply some themes is to replace framework-res.apk into system/framework/framework-res.apk...doing this with root explorer has no succes even if you ADB it..this will brick your build and u have to install again the whole system.ext2...!!everywhere is explaining that first phone must go into recovery mode to apply it..!!so,till now cant have any solution but only wait to make a function to have the possibility to run the phone into recovery mode..!!Be patient..soon we'll have it!

It's possible to change framework-res.apk through the terminal, can't say this will work for everyone and it may completely screw your android build, so a titanium backup couldn't hurt. This was done on shubcraft 1.4d to theme back to stock android (if your looking for the framework, it's somewhere in the shubcraft thread).
1. Place your new framework-res.apk in the root of /sdcard.
2. Run terminal.
3. su
4. mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
5. cd /sdcard
6. cp framework-res.apk /system/framework
Reboot and hopefully success.

are for phones that can be rooted and flashed with recovery..for us on the hd2 we HAVE to adb every file 1 by 1...sucks..and even the terminal method..you will see errors on your phone..i wish darkstone would just say how he put the espresso on his rom.
Go to market and Download ROM Manager from Clockworkmod it's free.
Put the theme on the root of the SD
open ROM Manager
click install from SD
pick out the theme you just put it.
Reboot
themes are ROM/framework specific which is why certain themes are only available for certain ROMs. shu8i builds are based off of cyanogen and are therefore the easiest to theme IMO. I have done a theme thread for that particular set of builds and have had great feedback from users.
So FWIW, a theme cannot be applied to just any ROM. If you want to get into it, you will need to find and extract the .PNG files from the framework-res.apk , pull the framework-res.apk from the build you are currently running, replace the images, and replace the framework-res.apk in your build with the patched one with the new .PNG's
there are plenty of TUTs on XDA explaining how to theme, only difference is us HD2 users have to manually push the files instead of using the convenience of an update.zip that is flashable in recovery.
Moved you guys over to general.. Best of luck!

I understand that this thread is old, but I just found it. Trying to install a new framework-res.apk to my device using this method. I have it in a zip file (which is the format that would be used on a normal device to flash it from recovery mode).
Well I tried this; it lets me choose the theme (zip file) that I want, and it then prompts me to choose OK to reboot in recovery mode and continue the installation. Nothing happens when I choose OK.
Any further info on how to do this? What am I doing wrong?
Watching the same transition animations over and over is boring. You can speed them up with Spare Parts or you can just shut them off entirely within settings. There is, though, a third road: change 'em.
These are videos of most of the transition animations packs (Drod's rubiX animations, Fab's animation mix, and Android Stock have no videos at present).
Flip
YouTube - Android Screen Transitions
Bounce
YouTube - Samsung moment animations, bounce
Fold
YouTube - Sbtwca
FlyIn
YouTube - Samsung moment animations, fly in
There are two preferred ways to use these animations:
1. Add Animations Using Metamorph: should work for most roms. Thanks Haxzamatic!
Transition Animation MetaMorph Files - http://bit.ly/gwEB5F
Note: there is no current MetaMorph file for either Android Stock or Fab's mix (see below).
2. Manually Add Animations: should work for most roms
This process will be helpful for those wanting to mix and match animations from the folders. In fact, why don't you create your own mix and post it here so everyone else can appreciate your awesomeness. I'll add new mixes below if they come in.
1. Simply get ahold of the anim folder with the animations you want to use and the framework-res.apk from the rom you're interested in modifying (/system/framework/framework-res.apk).
2. Open up the framework-res.apk in 7zip (right click on it, and select "open archive").
3. Drag the anim folder with the animations (which you can download below) into /res folder in your framework-res.apk. This will replace the files currently in /res/anim.
4. Exit out of 7zip.
5. You now need to push the modified framework-res.apk onto the phone. You can do this by placing the modified framework-res.apk in the root sdcard folder, and entering the following into terminal emulator on your phone or using ADB when the sdcard is mounted:
su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework
mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
reboot
If you're using terminal emulator, your phone will probably reboot before you finish re-mounting and/or typing reboot.
NOTE: This is taken almost wholesale from MagnusRagnarok (initial post) and ronhova (detailed instructions) on XDA; they deserve the credit. Link To Original Post.
Since this process modifies your rom's framework-res.apk, it obviously won't work with other roms. Translation: don't take the framework you've just modified and try to put it on other roms. IF YOU DO THIS, YOU WILL DIE.
Animation Files: for manual addition
Bounce
Flip
Fly In
Fold
Drop In (from Drod's rubiX focused series)
Fly In and Flip Mix (from Fab's Apex)
Android Stock
Nice!!
But credit should really go to MagnusRagnarock. I just like it so much that I had to have it for my droid x.
Oh by the way, some of you might not get pass the second line of code. After you push the framework-res.apk back to your phone, the phone will do a soft reboot inside terminal. Applying all your changes. Don't freak out!
I recomend mixing and matching the transitions. Looks even better!
I'm using the fold transition for my lock screen and the fly transition for everything else.

Hey there, thanks for the instructions, by the way. You should post /anim folder so we can all enjoy your custom set. If I had more time I'd be experimenting like crazy to get the perfect mix.
I made some morphs so there easy to apply. Sadly I don't have a X to try on. They worked great with CM6. As long as the framework is in /system/framework
it should work. Great find

I just tried flip on my D1 via metamorph, it didn't work...
Hi all - I tried it too - worst than no luck - it make my phone unusable.
1) it wrote there are no space for frameworl.apk - unfortunately original framework was deleted or changed
- then nearly all app and android does not respond
only one way is power off, but phone hangs at samsung logo. There are no samsung small blinking word and android will not start
- luckily reflash firmware with ODIN via download mode works
2) same step, but first I deleted Layar.apk from system folder to be sure I ahve enough space like author of flying animation JPF ROM at this forum.
I repeated then again copy framework with same space result and phone unusable, again flash over ODIN - I give up :-(
I tried mount as ro as at step 3rd, but it wrote busy message like someone else alraedy posted here.
- updated - I manually removed Layar.apk and Maps.apk from /system folder
then I had enough space for copy framework-res.apk
but still command mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
wrote cannot unmount, system busy
I rebooted phone normally and I am testing if framework changed or what happened
I already successfully enabled LiveWallpapers and now only framework is what I am missing from ROM with flying animation JPF ROM at this forum.
Any tips ?

DISCLAIMER: These scripts have worked for me without issue. It would behoove you to ensure you have a solid back up to recover from in the event that something goes horribly wrong. These scripts should be considered a WIP. I will edit them and provide information as needed if something does not work as it should. Please feel free to post here or PM me if you have issues and bear with me if they do not work properly for you. END DISCLAIMER
To be honest, I am lazy. I flash CM nightlies and sometimes themes, and I didn't like having to navigate through recovery over and over again to wipe cache and dalvik-cache. So, I decided to write a script that would just do it for me. Then I got even lazier. I found that I had written several scripts and now I was tired of having to flash them all in a certain order. Which is why I wrote one all inclusive script.
Here I will provide you with two separate scripts. The first does just enough and the second does that much and a few more personal tweaks.
The first script is a rather simple one. It formats your /cache partition and deletes /data/dalvik-cache.
Wipe_Cache_Dalvik.zip
Edify version to work with Clockword Mod Recovery
1. Back up your current rom
2. Flash Wipe_Cache_Dalvik.zip
3. Flash your nightly/theme of choice
4. Reboot
The second script is where my personal preferences come into play. This script is meant to be flashed after you install your nightly rom. This script will format /cache, delete /data/davlik-cache, delete certain system apps that I do not personally use, and then copy an edited build.prop into /system so that the DPI is set to 190 immediately after you reboot from installing the nightly rom. This script will more than likely have to be changed to suit your needs. I understand that people will want different DPI settings and would like to retain the use of apps that I do not use.
Wipe_Delete_Copy.zip
1. Edit the script if you so choose. (Directions will be given in the second post)
2. Back up your current rom
3. Flash your nightly
4. Flash Wipe_Delete_Copy.zip
5. Reboot
Many thanks to Omegasun and his BareBone App and Sense Removal Plus Community Tools Thread.
This was the thread that got me started writing scripts. I learned a lot from him. My script would not have been possibl without his.
Many thanks to unCoRrUpTeD and his unCoRrUpTeD Dual Boot V1 Thread. I did a lot of testing for unCoRrUpTeD on his dualboot setup. I learned a lot from him in regard to using updater-scripts and updater-binaries. Without him I would not have been able to write the second script.
A thank you also to Calkulin for his format_all.zip which was another source of inspiration for the first wipe script.
As always a giant thanks to Cyanogen, Team Douche, TeamWin, and the Snap Team. The information and aid that they have provided to me is second to none. Without them I wouldn't know half of what I do now. Their contributions are what make this community great.
Any gratitude that you may feel towards me for these scripts should be directed towards those mentioned above. I wrote these to benefit myself and now feel that I should give them back to you all. I hope they work as described and make flashing a little bit easier on you.
These are rudimentary directions for the time being. I will edit and make them more precise later tonight. Also included a few things for reference. Like I said, it is basic info for now and it will become more detailed and informative.
You will need a text editor to edit any of these scripts. I primarily use Notepad++ on Windows. If you are on a *nix box then I am sure you are more than able to find a text editor that suits your needs.
1. Unzip Wipe_Delete_Copy.zip
2. Navigate to *\META-INF\com\google\android\
3. You will see two files: updater-script and update-binary
4. Open updater-script with your favorite text editor. (In my case, I right click and choose "Edit with Notepad++")
5. Edit Away
6. Save
7. Rezip
For reference, these are the files deleted from /system/app:
ADW Launcher
Browser
Car Home Google
CM Wallpapers
Development
DSP Manager
Email
FM
File Manager
Google Quick Search Box
Genie Widget (News and Weather)
Live Wallpapers
Live Wallpaper Picker
Pro Tips (The CM Widget that appears after a clean install)
Sound Recorder
VoiceDialer
Notice "ADW Launcher." This means you will need Launcher Pro/ADW EX/etc before you flash this. Or you will need to remove this line from the script.
If you don't want to change your DPI settings:
1. Open up the script in your text editor
2. Delete
Code:
ui_print("");
ui_print("");
ui_print("");
ui_print("Copying build.prop to retain proper dpi");
show_progress(0.200000, 5);
package_extract_dir("system", "/system");
3. Save
4. Delete the "system" folder found in the original zip
5. Rezip
This will be very handy. Thank you, sir.
+1 for this when I get to mess around with it after work tomorrow. Great job

I appreciate the thanks. I know the basic script will work just fine. It is very straight forward. The second one is kind of tricky because it uses an updater/binary. I just recently started working with them and had a few issues to begin with. The more feedback you all give me on this the better. Hope they help.

You can do it either way. I always used to wipe and then flash.
The reason I am wiping after flashing the nightly is because of the other code in the second script. The second script deletes all of those system apps that I don't use and copies my edited build.prop back into /system. If I flashed the script before the nightly, then those system apps would be reinstalled and I would lose my edited build.prop.

Hey,
I made a custom boot animation for my p500 and decided to share it with you guys. It's very lightweight (only 28 images) and sober, I can't stand those 'l33t' flashy boot animations... maybe I'm getting too old.
Took the 'Android' text from a wallpaper and the circle progress bar from another boot animation (found in UOT Kitchen).
Installation:
1. Save bootanimation.zip in c:\bootanim\ (or anywhere else, but then you will have to change the path in adb push command)
2. Turn on USB Debugging and connect you phone to your PC via USB cable.
3. open command prompt in android-sdk\platform-tools and run the folowing commands*:
adb devices
adb shell mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
adb push c:\bootanim\bootanimation.zip /system/media
adb shell mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
adb reboot
Click to collapse
And that's it. Your phone will restart and you will be able to see the animation in action. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
If anyone wants to create a flashable ZIP I'll put a link to it here. I'm just too lazy to create it myself.
*you must have the Android SDK installed in order to use the adb tool.

Thanks man always like getting new boot animations

Glad you liked!
Sure it's easier with Root Explorer but it's a paid application so not everyone does have it.

Very nice! Tnx!
Excellent bootanimation and I always prefer the adb commands to change the bootanimations.

Check out 'File Expert' by Geek Technology in the market [as i do not have permission to post links yet.. ]
It does all of the stuff that root explorer does...!!
One of those few good looking root explorers..
P.S.: I know everyone knows still... You need root permissions for full access to the root system..!!
I don't think file expert can mount /system in read/write mode. If it does, please let me know how.
