He's telling the truth, 2.1 is also on my new x10i from Orange.
I can tell you all that MT is not working on the new version 2.1 from SE. Hard lucks people, guess we have to wait for bootloader crack which IMO will never happen for x10 devices.

Froyo November 11, 2011?! WTF

Ok, so read this and tell me what you think. It has to be some kind of conversion from another language cause parts of it dont make sense at all in the english language. Also, look at the picture, and tell me what is wrong in it (or right?). Either way, some of this pisses me off.

I think it'd be even less likely for Samsung to put out such a date over a year in advance, despite everything they've been saying about a prompt release.
Whether or not it will be the 11th (I hope so), it will not be 11-11-11. I mean come on, three 11s. Obviously a mistake.

Even the rollout DID begin on the 11th, we wont see it on the Epic for a while after that most likely.
I hope I am wrong.

Especially since GalaxySSupport Twitter has already stated Froyo will be on all Galaxy devices by the end of the year.

Can we make a new rule that anyone that starts a Froyo speculation thread gets banned? Kthxbai.

Galaxy twitter has been complete wrong several times, specifically they have promised dates that were in fact early.

I agree to permit questions regarding 2.2 but I think that we should all take a chill pill and let it be.
By past experience we will get he upgrade and then wish we never had it because of the bugs it will have at the start, so let's just save our time with the speculations.

There's 20+ post about froyo. They all end up being the same conversation. Other peoples threads get disrupted cause of people asking about froyo. The conversation is all the same.

I have a rooted Evo running 2.3, and I know a lot of you won't want to take time to help a fellow OP out, but. When will Sprint release an OTA 2.3 update for the HTC Evo 4G? Any ideas? Facts?

Probably never...it's been suggested that manufacturers will be skipping 2.3 and just move to 2.4.
And Sprint won't be releasing anything anyway, this is all on HTC.
Manufacturers make the updates, send to carriers, carriers approve and and bloatware apps and release.

My guess would be within the next 45 days.
We know the Evo is getting Gingerbread [2.3/2.4] so it will come.
It makes sense that it would come before Spring.

Ohh he meant sprint doesn't release updates and that its up to htc, no I know that I just meant sprint actually getting ahold of the final product and sending it out to us. I thought he was saying regardless of htc having a 2.3/2.4 update sprint will just be all natzi about it and not give it to us after they have ruined it via, bloatware and other disgusting apps. Lol sry my bad, so hopefully in 45 days cause this has taken way too long.

unless you know some super, uber secret that we don't, it's was NEVER confirmed that the evo would get any update past froyo.

They're considered maintenance upgrades so unless sprint's flagship phone is already considered eol while it is still selling out I'm sure we'll keep getting updates

it's gonna be awhile for them to implement the new sense into ginger. then sprint would have to test before releasing it. if anything at best we might see it by late spring. ive never seen any documentation that even stated htc was working on it for the evo. just like the evo2 is nothing but a myth at this point.

It's already been a while...
Also, Froyo was released to the Evo about four months after Froyo was released by Google.

not for the evo and to my knowledge not with sense. the evo would only get a sense version of it, not aosp. im done going back & forth, you get the point.

Google released Gingerbread about four months ago...
Google released Froyo about four months prior to the Evo getting it...
You said it's "gonna be awhile"
And I'm saying it's already been a while.

OP here, Well I'm sure that we will but since its like dead and nobody talks or knows for sure you start to think if its gonna happen at all...I don't see the echo as sprints new flagship phone and as far as I know the evo sells more than the epic and shift so if they abandon all ships on 2.3 I think yours truly is gonna have to switch over to Deutsche Telecom.

I have a friend who works in the Sprint retail store and he told me that developers at Samsung are currently working on a Gingerbread for our Epic4g. He said the latest build was ZM>9000 and that they let him test it and it was pretty awesome.

It will feel horrible because it will be a buggy mess. Let them get Froyo sorted out before they begin to use this as a buggy base of their Gingerbread build. I do believe Samsung will deliver Gingerbread, but dont even think it will be before Summer 2011. I have nothing against Samsung really. They could do better with software support though. And you will find ridiculous skepticism among people at XDA for anything positive that is "supposed" to be coming from Samsung in the future.

I personally do NOT think we will ever see another update past froyo...
We might get a froyo update to fix bugs and what not but as far as 2.3 ect, they will leave the epic by the wayside and focus on the galaxy S2 series and other newer phones. The epic was just a complete failure and they know it, thats why they are come out with galaxy S2.

well idk, its a tough call...
took a long time for froyo...
but then you can look at it like "well samsung sees how the US folk are all pissed off so they might start trying to release more updates bla bla"
if the epic does get gingerbread, dont expect any update past that..because past that Samsung will expect us to do our part and buy another Samsung device.

I think personally Gingerbread will come just to rebuild some goodwill with the people of this country. Then maybe with that, we would buy the next uber Samsung phone. At least by getting Froyo, my Evo owning friend can now shut up how his Evo is soooooo much better than my Epic because it hbas Froyo (even after showing him my pics and videos look better, screen looks nicer, can play more vido formats natively) because that was the only thing he could point at. Now we're even.

If Gingerbread comes, it's not going to be for a while; otherwise, why would they have bothered releasing FroYo?

Don't confuse Samsung, LEAVE EB13 as it stands!!
Finish GB so we don't have to wait until 2.4 or 2.5 drops before we get 2.3!

G2 Android 2.3 Confirmed For Q2

i didnt know if anyone has seen htc confirm we are getting android 2.3 officially in q2 so i emailed them and this is what i got in response.
I understand how important it is to have the most current software available for your device and I am happy to inform you that the G2 is scheduled to receive the 2.3 update later in the second quarter of this year.

Desire HD apparently getting theirs OTA now. Surely ours should not be far behind.....Surely?
What it means when ours is released is hopefully rmk40 will release an official virtuous 2.0 rom. It might also move us closer to the point where they release the kernel source and we can start seeing overclocking kernels for Gingerbread sense roms. (and trackpad wake etc)

So more or less two months later. No matter, maybe they will make even more fixes and changes for us. (Maybe a version of Sense 3.0 for our "weaker" phones - but I doubt that)

The only reason they are saying end of June, is because HTC said it would happen by end of Q2. So it can happen anytime between now and the end of June.

This sums up pretty much every expectation in my life lol.

Given the track record with everyone involved regarding prompt releases (Google, T-Mobile), it'll be at least November before it's actually available. How many months were us old Dream users waiting on Cupcake? Donut? Eclair (which turned out to be vaporware for the Dream)?

there is no way it will be november since we already have a leaked version for the stock gingerbread rom and it seems to work perfect... i dont see a reason for it taken to long to be released.

Lol yea. Well as a remember the motorola cliq toke like 8 month to get updated to 2.1 which really made me mad since that phone is so hard to root.

Not yet, but i saw that Desire HD and Incredible S had already be update by OTA, so maybe release for G2 in Q2 recently?

Wow, a lot of G2 owners here that came from the Cliq. I gave my Cliq to my dad after I got the G2. I remember Motorola's definition of "coming soon" for the Eclair update. Lol
Luckily we had developers like J_r0dd and HandlerExploit working on the Cliq back then.
