A quick backup, wipe, reflash, restore apps worked for me...just saying.
battery is at 50% now, after 12 hours of moderate use. Whereas before it would be beyond dead.
Wonder what could have caused this? I've flashed RC2-4 with the same battery drain problem (no wipe). Any insight?
Just have to make sure you wipe cache and dalvik before upgrading to new cm. Its the proper way to upgrade as far as the kernel goes. That should be your steps as far as flashing any kernels. Battery life on stable version seems a lot better to me. I can go well over 24 hours of use with good usuage.

ah, yes. forgot to include that
wipe dalvik, cache, and battery stats.
I'm using cyanogens kernel. With all my profiles set to the ondemand governor. You'll see a big difference in battery life. Pershoots kernel is amazing as well. I've used both. I get great battery life with either.

Backup from Within Rom Manager or in the Recovery?
There's 1 thing that confuses me. In recovery, it has the Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition and in the advanced menu, it has the wipe davlik cache. Do i wipe the data AND cache partition with the davlik cache? Just keep seeing people mention 2 wipes, but there's option of 3 from recovery to choose from.

If your upgrading to a new version of CM OR flashing a new kernel you ONLY wipe cache (NOT DATA/CACHE aka Factory Wipe) and you wipe Dalvik cache under advanced menu.

Thanks for clarifying that for me.
Hey guys just a quick question about installing nightly builds on the nook. When Rom Manager asks whether to wipe data/cache and what not, if I select it, will it wipe the internal memory completely? leaving no user files behind? or will it only wipe the system files?
It will wipe everything and it will be a fresh install.

If you update, just wipe cache
It wipes the /data partition but doesn't wipe /sdcard /sd-ext or /met/emmc.

Note: wipe cache and wipe Dalvik cache are 2 different things.
+ wipe cache is a quick way to clean the current running ROM
+ wipe Dalvik is a completely clean.
After wipe Dalvik, next time it boots, it will take a lot longer time due to the device has to re-compile the whole thing before ROM start running and booting.
I think I need to drop a few lines about wipe cache/Dalvik.
As I posted above, I said it wiped clean.
Apparently, I am NOT 100% correct.
I just updated to nb198, wiped cache (formatting /cache) then wipe Dalvik cache.
After done updating ROM, booting up, I expected everything clean, completely fresh.
It's not the case, I went to Market and all old search history were still shown. Not only with Market but other apps too.
So
a. either wipe cache/Dalvik is NOT completely clean wipe or
b. it was completely clean but somehow, those old cache info, which stored somewhere I don't know, get automatically restored back.
Okay, I did a quick read of the FAQ for CWR, and came across these:
Wipe cache partition
Wipes the cache partition of the device to clear all the data accumulated there over use. This is often used before installing a new ROM, app, kernel or any similar mod via recovery.
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Allows you to wipe the cache for the Dalvik virtual machine (the custom-built Java virtual machine for Android). This is required before most ROM installations and at other occasions too, for fixing some problems.
So, I'm taking this guide on board and will wiping Cache AND Davlik. So that's two steps prior to installing a new CM7 nightly build.

You didn't happen to store them in uSD card? Or perhaps app data/cache are separate from system data/cache...
Will look into it further...
Hi, I own a Nexus 4, just a quick nooby question..
Will flashing a custom kernel (thinking of Faux or Franco) and wiping cache and dalvik wipe data? The main reason I want to flash a custom kernel is to underclock to save battery life, and do these have profiles so I can leave it on low clock over night and normal clock during the day?

Same answer, you don't need to wipe anything in recovery if you're flashing a kernel. And wiping cache and dalvik will not wipe your data
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
you never ever have to wipe anything when flashing kernels. never. wiping dalvik/cache before flashing a kernel is the same as wiping your butt to fill your car up with gas. its just not needed. and for all those that write it in their op, they just dont know better.
I am about to flash CloudyG3 1.3 on my G2. When wiping, do I wipe system too, or just data, cache and dalvik?

Which is essentially factory restore or the 1st screen in twrp when you click wipe.
Hi,
I've recently done a succesful flash of Blisspop after a full wipe.
Now I want to update, but I don't want to do a full wipe. Simply installing the zip on-top gives a permanent booting screen. Can you update without starting from scratch?
Did you wipe cache & dalvik after flashing updated zip?
I did not. Is that the only required extra step? And will I lose data if I do so?

No, you only lose data when you wipe the data partition
In recovery, you'll see different named partitions, cache, dalvik cache, system, data, etc etc
If you wipe System, you wipe the ROM
If you wipe Data, you wipe your user data
Caches are just temp partitions, safe to wipe any time, only side effect is a longer first boot as Android needs to re-cache everything
But yes, you do need to wipe the caches when updating to a newer version of the same ROM/Droid version, and no you won't lose your data
Here's how I do it:
Wipe System
Wipe Caches
Flash new ROM
Flash new Gapps
Flash SuperSU if needed
Wipe Caches again
Reboot
Result = New ROM with no loss of data
That's a clean flash, a dirty flash is how you did it without wiping System
If you are moving to a newer version of android, or a different ROM, wiping data becomes more necessary, especially if the move is to an older version of droid
Thanks. I'll try it out.
