Has anyone figured out how to make it so that on a long press of the volume button the media track will change? I have a feeling it is similar to how to go about remapping the genius button to the search function. But I can't seem to figure it out! Any help is greatly appreciated!
Edit: I've searched around the glacier-keylayout.kl found in /system/usr/keylayout/ but I can't seem to figure out how the volume keys are mapped to change tracks. I've been using a dream/sapphire CM6.1 build (from my old phone) as a reference. All the keys seem to be mapped out almost exactly the same. The volume keys are exactly the same. I am so confused! :/ Someone please help!
So, has any one figured out how to accomplish this? I'm still using my old MT3G as a music player for work because of this. I would really like to not have to carry around a second phone just so I can change tracks more conveniently. Any help at all is appreciated.
Needs a kernel and Rom to support it. Cm does it.

Patience....it can take some time to get an answer, and you will win no friends by posting things like this. Also, there are MANY threads similar to this already.
I do not think it is possible to have the volume keys do one thing (track change) when the screen is off and another (volume) when the screen is on, but cannot say for sure.
That being said, something like what you are asking is possible. You can use a button mapping program like AE Buttons Plus (free, google it) to map a long press of your volume buttons to up/down arrows, and this will change tracks when screen is off. You can map single press of these buttons to volume up/down. Or you could do the reverse (single press change track, long press volume). Either way, the keys will always control volume in call.
I recommend messing around with various combinations until you get what you want. Also, try a search and see what others have done.
sry for that, wasnt meant to offend anyone!!! =/
and Thanks for that tip!
//EDIT
i just tried it now and it does work!
Hi
I am not entirely sure, but if you use S2U2 to lock your HD the volume keys will automaticely work as you wanted them to be as soon as you start your TF3D player and let the focus on it in TF3D. So in other words just start the player and lock the screen. Ready to go .
Hope you understand what I tried to explain. Best is, if you try it for yourself. Just search in the forum for the program S2U2.

No problem Just thought I'd let you know since you appear to be new. Good luck!
I have this function. I have slide to lock and AEBplue installed.
AEBplus I have set single click as arrow down and up and double click as volumn.
When it is on the music screen, one click of the volumn lets me scroll up or down when the screen is off...
Hi All,
Hopefully a quick one for some clever person out there...
Is there any way to change the amount the volume changes when you press the hardware volume keys? The default step change is quite large when you press the buttons but you can more minutely change it if you use your fingers on the on-screen slider...
Thanks.
would like to know it too, I think I found the topic about it some time ago but can't find it now
edit: found that thread I've seen http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328993
Hi,
I've searched everywhere I could hoping to find an answer to this question which I believe is very basic.
Is it possible to remap the hardware buttons on my Vogue running Android (Myn Donut). I would particularly like the "back" button to be the big button in D-pad (like the iphone).
Thanks a lot folks!
Ray
download Atools that has an option to change the button mapping to whatever you please
Thanks, I downloaded atools and the concept looks great
But i was hoping I wouldn't have to reflash everthing and reinstall everything just to swap 2 buttons... am I wrong? Is there no program that can customize a config file somewhere?
Thanks in advance!

nope, when you flash a new kernel you don't have to reinstall your system, but their isnt a program that can customize it
Use atools and apply update created by the keychanger.
aight, I'll definitely try that then!
any reason why the DPAD middle button (and DPAD up/down for that matter) are not available for customization in Atools?
Thanks!
i can add dpad in next release for which device?
I have a HTC Touch CDMA (vogue), do you need any other info?
I dont know why, but customization seems possible for every button on the Touch right now except for:
-DPAD-middle (big button)
-dpad-up
-dpad-down
-volume up
-volume down
if it's not too complex, maybe add support for "long press" for all buttons too?
Thanks a lot man, much appreciated!
Ray
Long press isn't supported if it is not present in kernel. I'm sorry i will add other button soon.
awesome!
Looking forward to it!
Greets all,
I wanted to know if this could be done and if so would someone be willing. I use the Desire HD Sense rom, and I'm sure most iof not all roms are this way so thats why I posted it here and not specific to the rom I am using, but as we all know that when you are in a call there is only two buttons on the screen, Mute (Microphone) and Speaker (Speaker Icon), is there a way that we could at least get a thrid icon and have the Hold/UnHold button on that screen too? I would think that seems to be a important function that should be on the main screen and not have to push the Windows key to get to it. Obviously the Mute and speak can be accessed from both, but not the hold button.
Thanks for anyone who can help, and does anyone else feel the same way or am I the only shmuck?
Hows about a bump.
Cyanogenmod has an on-screen hold button, unfortunately you can't just use that phone.apk so you'll have to look at the source code and do some modifications yourself.
Does anyone know of a way to map orientation lock to a hardware key? My idea is to have the volume down key mapped to orientation and the volume up key to volume, making all the volume changes I need on the screen with the sliders. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Well, it is certainly possible to write a program to do such a thing, but it might be easier for you to try Tasker instead. Where it locks orientation on a per app basis.

Yes there are ways to do it. There have been apps made in the past to make it easy, but they may rely on manufacturer/models.
Adding this in the power prompt seems like the best way to go about it. Root required.
