I would really appreciate it if you can PM me as well, since I'm also looking for a way to remove the Exchange policy (using stay unlock on my HD2 and it is working flawlessly)

Maybe someone can make a mail.apk for Tab users (that have the latest JM6 installed)?
Sorry, been very busy. I started working on the galaxy tab apps, but left it alone and am waiting for Rom Manager before modding the tab. I have, however, been using the European Tab email, which bypasses exchange security. It requires Root Explorer to do it.
*Do the below at your own risk. I am not responsible for your Galaxy Tab should the following do something to your device.*
1. Download the email.apk from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=810454
2. Rename the email.apk and email.odex files to email.bak and emailx.bak and save a copy on your internal card, then delete.
3. Copy the email.apk you downloaded and paste it in systems/app folder.
4. restart.
5. Sign into exchange and you should be good to go. The email does, from time to time, give a connection error, but I have been using it for about a month or so and it is fine.
Today I went back to the original email.apk from my backups (done just as I detailed above) by deleting the email.apk, renaming the email.apk and email.odex properly and placing them in the system/app folder. It worked without a hitch.
Does This change the One month limit One corporate exchange account. One notice that the tmobile version only allows up Forum One month synced But vzw has an option Forum all.
any other threads regarding this?
Thanks!
do you know if this version of email.apk actually displayed exchange emails in full HTML?
I love the app I just can't stand seeing stuff in plain text.
Touchdown is great and its tablet mode is perfect but I would like to just use one email app instead of 2.
Please let me know if there's something i'm missing.
(btw, my work currently uses Active Sync and not 2003, or 2007 so i know its not that)
Cheers

Ever since upgrading to DL30 my corporate email (and only the corporate email that comes stock) gives me an "unable to load message. Message too long" message at the bottom of the screen. I have tried removing the account and adding it back, but nothing seems to help. Any help with fixing that would be greatly appreciated. My gmail works fine, but every time I try to check a message with the stock email app it gives me that message. I would like to avoid using an app from the market.
I had the same issue, and while I could get emails I was not able to send. I installed the Galaxy Tab Email app using CWM, and both issues are now corrected.
This is the only thing keeping me from trying out the leak, i gotta have exchange working perfectly. And email apps can do whatever they want with your messages and their content.

The stock samsung email app in DL30 appears to be buggy. I ended up downloading K-9. If you want to avoid using and app from the market, you might be able to find the stock android email and flash that.

I also used the galaxy tab email and it works great and is way more functional than the stock fascinate email. The is a post on this website. Email app starts than just crash (lock up phone).
After reboot my phone the app does not load. I cannot find the app in the app drawer

download the galaxy tab email.apk, which is available if you search the site. use root explorer, move or copy it into system/app, delete email.apk, be sure to copy the email.apk to another place if you want to use it later before you delete it. reboot your phone. i did the same today after i was getting the "message to long" notice. Now my yahoo address email works great.

Hey so these directions work great and I wanted to change my email because the new email on DL30 asked me for too much security clearance to get into my email when i upgraded. Well the galaxy tab email worked great when i was running the Superclean ROM.
I wanted to check out the Rubiks ROM and I'm lovin it...
but i set up my email the same way and it set up the same way and everything looked good. I got a notification of new emails so i went to my inbox to check them and my inbox is completely blank... i deleted the email.apk and did the process over again and same thing. So i'm beginning to wonder if it's the ROM. Anyone have any thoughts?
EDIT: Sorry guys... stupid me, i went in and cleared data and cache, reinstalled and now it's working
The Galaxy Tab email looks great on the Fascinate, much better than stock. Thanks for the post.
Has anyone tried any of the other Galaxy Tab apps, like the Calendar?

Solution is not successful (29 Dec2011) - "IRM not Supported" bug with Exchange Email
Issue:
My firmware is 2.3.5 KK1.
I get the error "IRM not supported" after a day to sometimes 4 days of use. My inbox will stop syncing and with manual sync, that message will appear. Anyone face this problem and have any solution?
Note: Solution is not successful and disclaimer:
I believe the workaround for this problem to prevent the Exchange security policies from being pushed down by Exchange server during Exchange account setup on the Samsung Note. The purpose for me to release this is because of a bug with Samsung Note that they can't resolve. I took it upon myself to do the research and create the modded email.apk to share with other Note users who are also suffering from this problem. If you don't have this problem, don't use this.

Cautionary Note:
Use this at your own risk, I don't guarantee that it will work for you. If something goes wrong with your Note, but blame me!
Solution 1:
Using rustamabd's method
Solution 2:
Using gauner1986's method
Steps to apply the solutions:
1. You need to Root your Note.
2. Delete all your email accounts.
3. Use Root Explorer or Root Browser to delete email.apk and email.odex from /system/app
4. Soft reset your Note
5. Use Root Explorer or Root Browser to copy email.apk to /system/app and exit
6. You should be able to see the Email icon. If not, soft reset your Note
7. Create your accounts
8. Personally, solution 1 works for me. Please try and give me feedbacks on whether which solution works or both don't work at all.
Solutions using 2.3.5 KL1 source:
Yep. I deleted and setup the account on my phone again and it worked for a couple weeks. Im having another issue tonight though, and it may or may not be the same issue.

i'm quite puzzled by this one actually. Been using my Note for almost 1 month and snyc my email with no problem. just so suddenly got this IRM and now email does not snyc anymore. did not do anything to email account, so what causes it? anyone care to explain. thanks
Yesterday, it hit me. This morning and then again, during the evening. Within 2 days, 3 times, and I had to delete the account and recreate.
Complained to Samsung Singapore, was asked to go down service centre, and was told by the supervisor that he don't know what is wrong, and he went checking in forums, and confirmed that it is a problem. Really pissed me off big time, wasting my time to travel there to be told he uses forum to diagnose and confirm on problem. He told me that he will feedback to his engineer and also will contact me if there is a new firmware. Not promising at all, since 2.3.6 is what we can expect and that still have problem.
I'm rather uncomfortable to apply the apk mentioned above. :-(

ok guys, this is what I did and it seems to solve the problem....but I just tried it so Im not too sure if the problem is going to resurface.
I went to account settings checked the client certificate. After the security policy push down again, it seems to have solved the problem. But, when I check again, the client certificate setting wasnt checked but the irm issue went away. Better then deleting and recreating the account because my security policies include encrypting the storage, so its a pain to delete and recreate the account.

My son got my first HD2. What I did not know when I installed it the first time before he got it, was the fixation of the phone to the gmail-account I used at that time and only for that purpose. Intuition has its flip side too.
My son has his own gmail account, which I was not aware of, and obviously he wants to have his HD2 running his affairs on his own account (communicate with friends etc.)
Now, he has used the HD2 extensively, installed lots of apps, also some paid ones. Purging my old (installation-) account will reset the whole device to its initial state, all accounts and licences will be lost, if he understands that warning correctly.
Is there a way to change the 'ownership' with as little damage to the contents as possible, like save all contents as a backup, start with a new account identity, and restore all contents? Or will that also inevitably overwrite the new account with the old one too?
One could call the task also a migration of an android installation to a different account. BTW, it's equipped with a 16 GB card which has lots of free space left right now (looking at the backup space needs).
I am sure this has been discussed here before, but I seem to not find the right search words. Any hints, links, advice?
Would a total backup using Titanium be advisable? Or will that restore the present status including the unwanted account again?
Thanks for your help in advance. It doesn't make things simpler that my son and his HD2 are some 1.000 miles from here, studying there. but we have skype and other paths on PCs...
Cheers,
the longkeeler.
You can always use Titanium Backup to back up the apps (the paid ones, too), make a factory reset and let him set his own account and then restore the backup.
But you can never transfer the ownership of app(s) from one account to another. (For example, by using TB backup, he can use the paid apps, but he won't be able to update them, he'd need to buy them from his own account)
I'm sorry, but that is the way Android works. (which is lame)
follow-up
Clearing the primary gmail-account and thus resetting the device did not remove just that account, which kind of surprises me. Well, I don't have the HD2 in my hands, and I just hope that my son will have made the backup I advised hin to make and store it where he can reconstruct from.
Cheers,
the longkeeler.
But at least, he would have back what was there before. The nature of the paid apps is static, there are no backups to be expected. And it was not an amount of money that would kill anyone - just throwing it away should be avoided. Now, as posted a few minutes before, he was not successful to remove the undesired account. Are there any protections built in, that follow the great old MS tradition , it's not a bug, it's a feature, if not even industry standard?
it is however possible - to some extent - to "merge" google accounts.
if you do not use your gmail acc (as i understood from your first post) you can transfer quite a bit of contacts/features and stuff to your sons account and the other way round. this way he might be able to keep the paid apps (and updates) and also communicate with his friend on the dame account.
if thats any help...
Is the phone running froyo or gingerbread? If it is on Ginger then try deleting the account from sync and accounts... that's all for froyo u will need root explorer to delete a file located in the data folder.

Just use your sons email and then go to accounts and sync.turn sync off. That's basically your only hope.

First: Thanks to all for your replies!
Afaik, it's the gingerbread flavor.
I have the same type of HD2 here for myself but don't want to mess that up too much - I just saw under acc and synch that my account appears there once under mail and then under google.
If I remove either of those - does it only purge the link from my device to gmail resp. all other google-accounts, or does it remove the account as a whole from google's servers? (if so, probably only from the visible surface, but that's a different story...)
I am not sure if my son sees the same image and what he did there.
So again: Does "removing" the account on the smartphone just "divorce" it from google, or does it kill it?
Thanks again for your help!
Cheers,
The Longkeeler
Nieve, thank you so much. I am not sure yet if it will work but it sounds plausible. surprising how close to the surface such an essential database is located - like the rock that merged with the Costa Concordia... So, everybody just can hope that it will become easier in future to change the primary account rights.
A different side-question: What tool did you use to add the hints to the screen shots?
Extended thought, not necessarily useful for my son's problem, but: Would it be possible to cultivate different versions of the accounts.db, renaming them according to the desired application spectrum (like, say, change the "personality" of the phone from business to leisure)?
Reset device completely
With a clean device when the touch android screen comes up...
he signs in with his account. Establishes his acct as primary
then logs in with your acct secondly or later on in order to get access to the paid apps on your account
Only way to xhange primary is a wipe of data. The primary is simply the very first acccount entered after a device reset.

Nieve, thanks. After getting root explorer 2.15 I can see into the innards now too - on my phone here, there is the accounts.db of course, and two more entries, one called accounts.db-wal and the other accounts.db-shm. Look more like folders. What about those?

Always try to do my best, and I'll ask my wife for her opinion on this . Well, I'm just only the dad...
But your proposal sounds very reasonable and based on practice. If nieve's and your advice can be combined (purging the data base, tnen installing accs from scratch), it would be great.

(\data\system\accounts.db) deleted - et voilà, after rebooting, no more accounts. So, step one done successfully. So, again, thanks for that!
Now came the next one, re-installing his own gmail account as a primary one. He could open the dialogue - but his entry was refused, 'sorry, username and pw don't match.' Bummer. He tried it several times, took care that the account was not opened anywhere else - no avail so far. The error message could well be misleading.
There must be a missing resp. hidden link.
Update: re-installing the prior "false" primary account worked immediately. So, the error message IS misleading. I guess there will be no other way than to completely re-initiate the whole system and then start with the other identiy. Unfortunately, the HD2 has to travel 2.000 miles for that, but it is the safest way then. My son has neither the experience nor the tools to do that himself there.
If somebody has yet another idea - please don't hesitate to let us know!
The application is call picsin, you can find it in the android market...about his account ask him to make sure his email and password are correct. I have change my accounts many times doing that process. He can maybe try login to his account thru the browser, just to make sure the email and password are right.

Some times, the solution comes as a surprise. Just before my son had started his trial to rearrange the accounts yesterday, he had applied for a new login scheme with google - some double-password story. This, he had not mentioned until today, an hour ago, when he received a mail from google, giving him directions on how to handle logins in a transitional phase.
You guess it: All is well now, he has his own account as the primary one, and sounds much more relaxed than before.
Oh well...
But nevertheless: Your help was absolutely substantial in achieving this, and I hope that the bitdust will settle soon... So thanks again, I can recommend you
Cheers, and a happy rest of this weekend!

That's good to hear! And a pleasure to help.

Rats.
Google is your friend. Search for the app with a version number that (according to the Wiki) should run on 2.1
Of course, that's what I did, but you might have more luck. Or (hopefully) someone who is using it will see this thread. There are a number of old threads with app packages attached. A copy might be in one of them. I remember people touting it long ago.
Edit: a search of the forum turned up no old copies of the app for me, but I did run across a post complaining about the wake-lock in K9 and Gmail. If you're not wedded to K9, I use a very simple email app which does not skulk in the background waiting for a connection. That means you have to manually check mail. You might want to take a look at it.
