[Q] Scared - Fascinate General

Alright, so i flashed CWM. and then when i had the voodoo kernel on my SD card. Now, i went into CWM, and choose install from SD card and hit the home button for ok, and then my phone went black with the soft keys lit up. I never got to navigate to the file or anything. What should i do? unplug it, take the battery out, wait? Please awnser. I am literally shaking right now.

In clockwork, home blanks the screen...click it again to bring the menu back. The select function is controlled by the power button on the side.

Thank you so much... scared me so bad. so, now all i have to do if i want to flash the voodoo kernel is select install zip from sdcard and point it to the voodoo_kernal zip file?

I strongly recommend you do alot of reading before installing voodoo...it can be a real pain to revert back to non-voodoo

[Q] need some help

my epic is rooted with one click but im trying to install roms but cant.when i get to the recovery screen and try to flash it says..E:failed to verify whole-file signature..E:signature verification failed..im useing rom manager im i missing something
Did you have clock work mod, installed, and when you reboot with rom manager are you making sure you are holding power, volume down, and the camera buttons down until clockwork appears. Samsung stock restore is blue in color. Clockwork is green in color, well mine is at least. You want to make sure you are in clockwork and click CHOOSE zip from sd card. NOT install zip from sd

Thanks ill give it a try..thax for the qwick response
No problem, I had the same problem my self. I thought recovery was clockwork no one tips me clockwork was green instead of blue so I thought I was already in clockwork

It took me a while to realize that I had to find the downloaded rom in the download folder on the sd card when I first started.
Posted via XDA app on Epic Experience 1.2.03 ROM with Phoenix 1.45 kernel
it worked nicely..ya thought i was missing a step, got it now.....thanx again...
Yeah that's the step most people don't really point out. They just say reboot into clockwork

Questions/IRC

What is the IRC that everyone talks about chatting on? I looked at #samsung-fasinate but noone was in that.
I am looking for some help as I messed up my phone, thought I fixed it but now am running into some problems along the way.
I do not know how to boot into CWM, I have read hold up on volume while booting, but this doesn't work for me.
This is my problem and the solution:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804457
But I am stuck on step 3.
What is the easiest way for someone to walk me through this? I read just to use the automatic voodoo uninstaller, but I can not do that if I can not boot into CWM.
Thanks guys
Hold up and down volume buttons while powering on. This should boot you into recovery. Depending on which version of recovery you have, i.e if you boot into stock recovery, you may have to apply update.zip. Once in recovery, install zip from sd card and find the voodoo uninstaller and flash it. This should solve your problems
Oh yeah, and this, of course, assumes you flashed CWM in the first place. If not, that should be your next step.

Holding up and down simultaneous while powering on did not do anything for me. The Phone just booted normally...
Is it possible I do not have CWM installed? I did it in ODIN two times, as suggested.
Make sure you release when you see Samsung. If that doesn't work, then you probably need to try to flash cwm again. If none of this works, try to odin to stock and start over. Btw: make sure you follow the guide to flash CWM step for step.

Help nook noob please

I rooted my nook, downloaded rom manager, flashed cwm and did a nandroid back up. Now I'm stuck on the cwm revovery and cant reboot, volume rockers wont do anything, home button wont do anything or power button. Its just stuck on the black and orange recovery and wont reboot or anything. On my evo 4g I would do a battery pull and go back in to revovery but I can't do that with the nook. Any suggestions? Please!!! My wife will hang me alive. Thanks in advance.
Dave
Well I got it to power down...... now I can't get it to power back up?????
OK now everytime I hit rebbot system it goes right back to recovery. Can I just download a rom and flash it? That makes most sense to me.... and I want to go cm7 but dont understand this whole dual boot feature on the nook
check this out, it may help.

Thanks dude. Im in a pickle. I can't get out of recovery with my sd in. Quite a bit different from my evo 4g. I have some reading up to do.

yeah, the nice thing about the nook is that it's (knock on wood) pretty much unbrickable... just flash an image onto your sdcard and boot it from there (it tries to read the sdcard first from my understanding) to fix issues...
Ohhh. That's awesome news because I have a brick right now. I've gotten into some sticky situations with my evo but always pulled out smelling like roses. I just don't know the Nook at all right now. Ill have cm7 on it by tonight. Im pretty stubborn. Lol

Need to delete media hub and voice talk but how?

Ok, I believe these items are bogging down my phone badly. All this garbage that sprint puts on is killing my phone. I am having an issue with it as it freezes and pops up the bottom menu and keeps making quick little vibrations and freezes quickly, and then let's me get back into it. I think it's this software that is doing it, because it seems that there items keep restarting themselves. I want them gone. What do I have to do to let me take over my phone. I hear it may need to be rooted, but if it does, how does a novice do it on this 4g epic? Thanks in advance guys.
Mike
Well without rooting you can go to manage applications, then aall, then find the needed applications and choose clear data. It wont remove them but it will fix the restarting issues.

I tried that, they restart within a few minutes.

Well currently rooting is sort of hard...
First get drivers for the epic:
32 bit: http://firon.net/xda/Samsung_Mobile_Driver_V1.3.800_For_SPH-d700_Epic_4G.zip
64 bit: http://firon.net/xda/usb_drivers_GalaxyS_x64.zip
After you install these you need to get a program called Odin.
Odin: http://www.multiupload.com/S65EJFWRHE
Extract Odin to a folder called something like root for example. (Make sure you extract all of the files)
Next you need to download CWM 5 and put it in the same folder as Odin.
CWM5: http://drockstar.devphone.org/EpicTools/cwm-5.0.2.7-epic4g.tar.md5
Now get this kernel and put it in the same folder as Odin.
Mkasick kernel: http://www.club.cc.cmu.edu/~mkasick/android/kernel-GB-3a.tar.md5
After downloading those and putting them in the same folder as Odin, run Odin as administrator.
Now you have to put that kernel tar in the PDA slot in Odin.
Now you need to pull the battery from your phone then put it back in.
Now turn hold one on your phone's keyboard while holding the power button until you get an android Guy with a shovel.
Now plug your Epic in to the computer and make sure only auto reboot is checked in Odin. Click start.
Once your phone turns back on, repeat the Odin process with the cwm tar.
This time after your phone boots, you need to put a file on the SD card.
Root zip: http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Now turn your phone off off. Then hold volume down, camera and post until you see cwm recovery. In this menu use the volume buttons to navigate and the camera button to select.
Choose choose zip from SD card, now choose select zip, then choose the su zip you downloaded and choose yes. When this is done, you can reboot your phone.
Now you are rooted and can use an all like titanium from the market to remove stock apps.
Hope this helped

Yes. I prefer just Odining CWM 5.027 recovery and flashing a custom ROM immediately. Way quicker and easier.

Yup, just a little pin prick for marcusant, but yes, my head exploded too! I think it was easier than this when I rooted froyo, but it has been a long time ago. Glad my phone works so well that I am done tweaking it.
Now all I need is a super easy one step rooted stock like GB with all the fix's done with everything working as it should! Yup am too lazy to experiment with GB at it's current stages!

I recently rooted my S3 i747 and then installed cyanogenmod 10. Keep in mind I am not a wiz at doing these things, however it did work. Here in lies my problems. 1. I hate this OS with a passion. Its just not what i thought it would be so I would love nothing more than to figure out how to remove it and return to stock firmware or another custom rom. 2. If i stay with this rom (for not being able to figure out how to remove it and install another) I am running out of storage internally. Its a great possibility I could have done something wrong. so with that being said, can anyone help me? I have tried more websites than I care to. thanks so much!

Well what I did was follow along a youtube video... Which in turn may not have been the best idea. I remember doing some sort of back up on clockwork or something like that. I tried to go to recovery mode and restore but that didnt help. Im not sure what all I did to be honest. :/

edit... Pull the battery on your phone and put it back in. Hold up vol, home button and Power till you see the little words in the top left corner. It should say booting recovery really small. at that point take your finger off of the power button only and it will boot into Recovery.
If you have CWM recovery or TWRP you are golden...
Or else... see below
Find your phone in it's section you should be able to find a method using Odin to flash it back to stock and then you can read up and find the way to do everything you want.
Just do your research and look through the forum for your phone type/carrier and you should be able to find all of the information that you are looking for.
Search and you shall succeed!

why do you guys make things so complicated? the guy wants his phone back to stock.
The only thing you have to do is to go to www.sammobile.com/firmwares. Then put your phone number i9100 in the search box and choose any of the roms below. They are all stock, 2.3/4.x.x etc. The rom is in a zip file, however, you have to extract the tar file inside it.
Power off your phone then, while holding vol down, press and hold power.
Open odin in your pc then connect the phone to pc while being in download mode. press the pda button in odin and insert the .tar rom whoch you have just extracted. press start and you are done.

Well returning to stock is just as easy as finding a stock ROM in his phones thread and flashing it, it'll be better in the long run that way as well because maybe he'll learn something.
