Anyone working on a ROM? What else is needed to begin? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since we have perma root, security off and a recovery..what else is needed to begin ROM development?
I know were still missing the kernel source so I'm thinking that may be it?
I've never done any real development but have always been interested and have seen some good newb guides. If no one else is working on this, and if I had a rom image, I'm more than willing to attempt something on here..no bloat, remap the genius, and try to get rid of the favs would make this thing would be prefect.

Oops probably should have put this in the q&a thread but Im just using the xda app and didn't check the stickies, sorry guys, please move if necessary

Currently Kmobs of the Teamdouche develoment team that develop Cyanogenmod roms for android devices is working on CM6 for the MT4G and last I heard all he had to finish up was getting the camera and Bluetooth working.

That's correct and about 2 hours ago he post this on his Twitter account:
First picture from mytouch4g cm6! Preview is still slow though...
The progress is excellent.... Thanks Kmobs...

I would be working on a ROM....IF I could actually root my MT4G. Having a pre-OTA device blows.

Agreed, this sucks

I have a mostly deodexed stock rom but I can't get two files to deodex and I can't get boot to flash via clock work. If anyone knows how this was fixed let me know and I will post a flashable rooted deodexed rom tonight!

Pure Panache repack

I'm having trouble finding - is there a "pure as possible", pre-rooted only, repack of the Panache ROM for custom recovery? Over at HoFo there are some Mobilicity users who bought an MT4G because it's cheaper, and they want the same experience as the Panache. I figured the best way for them is to get Radio S-OFF on the MT4G first, and then flash the Panache ROM from custom recovery.

Seems like that one has still been tinkered with, and includes apps not very useful to CDNs like Netflix, T-Mo Wifi calling. Is there just a pure repack with as close as possible to NO mods at all except pre-root?
So your looking for unbranded sense? RoyalPanache is as close as you'll get. If your that picky you can just go in and delete the apks from the system/app or data/app directory. Not trying to be a douche or anything just don't really feel like elaborating haha

I'm looking for a repacked version that is 100% the same as the Panache RUU, except it's an update.zip instead of a RUU. I don't see any technical reason why that should be impossible, but it could be that nobody has thought to make it yet.

I found that but that one is not rooted from what I understand. It is the original ROM to revert to factory state. I basically need exactly that but a rooted and recovery flashable version.

Maybe I'm looking for the wrong thing but I can't see it. Do you have link? Make it is as I stated above, rooted and post-OTA flashable ROM.
EDIT: I see some in the dev section but I need specifically as is, untouched, nothing removed or added, just rooted is the only change.

so i have updated to the **rooted version** of android 2.3.4 on mytouch4g with S=OFF
for some reason i am unable to reinstall google+
has anyone had this issue, or know a fix?
If you want help, you are going to have to be more specific.
1. What rom?
2. By what method? from the market? what error do you get, or what happens?
3. "reinstall"?
Maybe something wrong with your phone, I have Google+ on android 2.3.4 (meXdroid rom) & it works fine

While it may have worked on your phone, thid was not the case with my situation. It was not even in the market, I tried sendinh it thru text from google+ Website and was not able to because my device was not supported.
I posted this to see if anyone else had the same issue, not to be told that what I saw with my own eyes didnt happen.

[Q] rooting mytouch4g 2.3.4 gingerbread

is there any way to root mytouch 4g 2.3.4
would i have to downgrade to 2.2.1?
yes, downgrade to 2.2.1, root, flash the rom of your choice
you have to downgrade at the moment. If you to to the development section for our phone, then look for resource Bible. In the guide section, there's 2 threads on how to downgrade your phone to 2.2.1 . Once that is done you can either root with gfree or root.sh.
From my fist to your face, enjoy.
You can do the above mentioned.. or just wait. There are ppl working on a straight method.

If you have s=off already all you need to do is flash a recovery image, then backup/wipe/flash the ROM of your choice.

I used gfree AFTER I HAD DOWNGRADED 2.3.4 to 2.2.1. It took forever, but it gave me TRUE S-OFF and PERMAROOT! It looks complicated, but its not that complicated. The gfree part is easy, just for downgrading, ADB setup was difficult was for me at first. PM me with questions or hit thanks button ^.^
