So theres a "Install system software update" on my phone and i chose to install now but everytime it restarts it comes back up when i lauch android, is there any way i could possibly manually install this update to my htc hd2?
No... this is a port of android, so the builds are taken from native devices and changes are made to make it compatible. The update thing is left over from whatever device the build is taken from, so the update is actually trying to update a desire or nexus or whatever device your build is from. Plus we're running from SD card. The only way to update a port is to manually do it.

RE:
OK i understand thanks for clearing that up for me
EDIT: is manually doing it hard??
no real difference between putting a brand new build on. Just depends on whether you want to keep your old data (sms etc) in which case there are dozens of other threads to read about it.

Hello xda'ers Havent been on this forum for awhile. last time I was active was when I was messing with windows mobile 5! then I happen to switch to Symbian o.s, now android.
anyway some noob questions, sorry I am new to android platform =\
1. I have a 16gb sandisk microsdhc card, can I use that to put the "rooting" files in there? I heard you need to make a "gold card" using a smaller OEM card? or should I use a backup 2 gb I have? btw would I be able to use the backup 2gb later on for file backup purposes?
2. I have a 32b mytouch. running android "donut" latest build I believe. But I do not have a 3g plan with tmobile, so I had activated my phone using my sister's simcard and popped mine in xD. after downgrading to "cupcake" would I have to do this process again? what about when I load a custom rom?
3. Right now MMS, and long text messages refuse to work because of tmobile's dumb network. I used to have a n95 european unlocked, mms worked like a charm... even after changing the mms server settings on the htc , mms does not work. would it work if I load a custom rom?
4. right now my phone is fairly slow. would a custom rom be able to overclock the cpu?
5. is it possible to load apps on my memorycard (16gb sdhc) after rooting?
6. after rooting "hopefully" =| would i be able to use multitouch? and which rom is the best? cyanogen or the official android 2.1 nexus rom with live wallpapers or hero?
thanks brothers.
1) Depends on what phone you are using. Are you using the old mytouch, i.e. without the 3.5mm headset jack? If you are, you don't need the goldcard method probably. Yes you may put the files there for rooting, like the recovery image file.
2) Not sure since I don't need to activate my phone.. do you mean signing into google accounts? I do that over wifi, but if it's like actual activating your phone, I guess you don't need to since I haven't done that.
3) Depends on custom ROMs but yes you can.
4) Yes
5) Yes, but I recommend not to unless you need tons of space since having apps installed on mytouch's internal memory is faster and mytouch has a fair amount of internal space unlike G1
6) I recommend superD or cyanogen. Probably two of the most stable ROMs out there mixed with speed.
how did you do that over wifi? did you use a hack or something? because in order to activate a mytouch or g1, or any smartphone from tmobile, 3g plan is required. When I bought mine it was already activated so all I did was a sim swap.
most roms will let you skip the google log in option. I would stick with cyanogen or super d also.
It would help if you put the phone you have thought.
lol I did. but I have a mytouch 32b obviously a non 3.5 mm

i recieved a text message this morning from t-mobile saying that a new software update for my HD2 was available for me to download i was wondering if anyone had downloaded it if so what does it do or change or what? is it worth the download and upgrade would like some feed back thanks.
I would say so unless your using a custom rom?
Most custom roms are based on 2.13, that TMobile USA use.
But please note it i will delete everything off the phone unless you have backed up to your memory card.
one thing it changes is disables the internet sharing app and adds a myaccount app.
I got a text message from TMobile today saying there is new software and new feature improvements for my HD2. I clicked on the website they gave me and here is what the pop up window says,:
" A software upgrade is available for HTC HD2 customers at www.t-mobile.com/wmupgrade. Please be aware that after you upgrade the phone It is normal for the device to run slowly and the battery to drain at a higher rate for a short period of time. This is caused by applications that might be performing an initial sync, such as, Outlook or a personal e-mail account, or the device updating applications like weather and location. It may take up to four hours to complete all syncing.Important: Please read the steps on How do I perform a device software upgrade before moving forward. The software update is only designed to update the software version from 2.10.531.1 and 2.13.531.1 to 3.14.531.1.
The upgrade process is easy!
Download the new software to your PC. You will be instructed to enter the 15-digit IMEI number for your device to access the download.
Ensure ActiveSync 4.5 for computers using Windows XP or earlier or use Windows Mobile Device Center for computers using Vista and Windows 7 is installed on your PC. If you have not installed ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center, you can install it from your Getting Started CD or download it from the Microsoft website.
Connect your HTC HD2 MR to your computer using the USB Sync Cable that came with the phone.
Establish a connection. You will know this is complete when the ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center icon in your PC taskbar is lit green and the status is "Connected".
Ensure that your T-Mobile HTC HD2 MR has a battery charge that is greater than 50% (two bars).
Remove your MicroSD card from the device if you have one inserted. Do not reinsert the SD card until after the software installation process is complete and the phone is ready to use.
Run the software update program you downloaded to your PC and follow the on-screen commands.
Below is the list of available downloads. Please select the download of your choice.

I'm not sure if the chefs plan on upgrading our roms or what but it's nice to know the HD2 got some love with WP7 on the extremely near horizon.
Just found the other thread. Wow - some people got the text on the 19th and I just got mine. Crazy sucky! Please lock this thread.

So i haven't gotten any text from tmob yet so deciced to check and download it. well if anybody is wondering if the one released by tmob is different than the one released two weeks ago are different? the answer is yes. the radio versions are different, as is a few minor things. going to give it a few days to compare the two. the one released two weeks ago was the first time i ever stuck with a stock that long, and now going to give this a try.

Download For: T-Mobile HD2 MR
Download: T-Mobile HD2 MR Software (Version 3.14.531.1 )
Date Updated: 9/23/10
Size: 209 MB
Still think its new?
Yeah, I did it but I don't know what's wrong: when I looked for the Software information, and checked the OS version, it's now like this: OS version: 5.2.21913 (21913.5.0.94). Is it Windows Mobile current version? Did ROM upgrade downgrade Windows version?
I know it might seem stupid, but I am really concerned...
Thanks in advance for help!
No, 21913 is one of the latest we've seen of COM2 line. If you had cooked one before then you had some bigger number probably, due to different branch...
What about Abroad Tmob devices ??
Guyys .., I'm Using a Tmob HD2 in Srilanka. Got it unlocked and using it. I've got one of those 17 digit IMEI's and ROM version of 2.13.

If it is TMOUS HD2 then yes. TMOUS is TMobile USA. The one with 1GB ROM and 576MB RAM in stock.
Yeah, it's a Tmobile version of HD2 and yes it has a 1GB rom.

The file is too large to post here. Check the development Forums for links to the stock ROMs. But it is really easiest and safest to go to HTC, enter your IMEI, and get the right ROM from them.
Hi,
I have a locked HTC Bell Legend, which as some of you might know is now upgradeable to 2.2 via an OTA update as of last week.
The problem I'm having though is that my phone isn't seeing any updates (gives the "your phone is up to date" popup when I check). I have tried rebooting, going through wifi, using *#*#checkin#*#*.
Does anyone have any ideas or know of a place I can manually install the update?
Thanks for any help.
You can either root your Legend and install a custom FroYo ROM or go to the following website and install the Bell 2.2 rom.
http://www.shipped-roms.com/shipped/Legend/
Thanks!
I've never installed a ROM this way before, can someone point me to a helpful guide? I searched around a bit and didn't find much.
EDIT: to clarify, the links above are to the official Bell 2.2 ROMs, but doesn't have the RUU. I can't find any resources on how to install an official ROM release without RUU on a locked phone.
make a gold card, download the htc 2.2 world wide english edition update, with the gold card in your phone runt the update, it worked for me i installed 2.2 a month ago without rooting my phone. I have also sim unlocked my phone.
when its done put in the apn data for your carrier and your good.
addition to first post:
im also with Bell.
email me and i will send you the link for the one step gold card.
I *do* get the update, but it fails because I removed some of the stock apps.
I've been trying to find the APKs for these (yes, I know, I should have made a backup).
Does anyone have, or can point me in the right direction for getting these apps back ? In particular the stock (DCSSTOCK.apk) and twitter apps.
Thanks,
Rob.
You can switch the rom.zip inside the ruu with any other official rom I think. If you don't want to make a gold card.

how could i update it to 2.2 and where i can find the update i try from the phone and it says that is allready updated
thanks
What carrier was your phone purchased on? Most worldwide have rolled out 2.2 for our Legends.
Or you could always root your phone and flash a custom ROM, you'll potentially (if you choose) have the latest and greatest version of android.
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
the carrier was Cellcom israel but its a open sim phone the android os is 2.1
i dont know how to root it or to ffalsh a custome Rom could you help me in this ???
Open sim? You mean unbranded? HTC should've rolled out the update for you in that case.
As for rooting and flashing, look through the Dev forum AND ONLY ASK QUESTIONS IN Q&A.

um o mean its unlocked phone the company is cellcom Israel but i dont know who to get the updates and also i need to do and update for the Radio coz i have 2 diffrent phones with 2 sim card in same carrier but the htc the service of the radio is lower than the other phone .... could u help in this our should i send email to Htc team asking about that ??
If your phone is unbranded as I think your suggested..... connect via wifi to the internet with a full charge and on main power. Go to settings, about phone, system software updates, 'check now'. It should find 2.2 is available and prompt you to download and install.
Have you tried this ?
hey i have tried it but is says that there is no available to your phone ??
what do you mean exactly ..
can u explain to me more about this if u please ?
thanks for your replay
If you can't find the update online it sounds like your phone is probably branded by the network operator (regardless of sim used).
You can find official roms in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747890
If your network operator isn't supplying the update to 2.2 you may have to do the update yourself. This could invalid your warranty with the network operator though.
