Just got my A7 today. Had I known that an android device could not automatically acces android market I would not have bothered.
Trying to download Dexters mod. I think i'm following directions but am completely lost. I down load the link and get 5 files listed
1. meta inf
2. bootloader
3. boot
4. recovery
5. system
I save them to microsd card, rename the file to Update.zip, follow the rest of the instructions. DOES NOT WORK!!
I've tried Update.zip, update.zip, ive compressed the files then saved them to the card, ive reformatted, i've checked the download amount=100.... etc.
Please help- no links just directions step by step please.
Do not unzip the files.
Rename the compressed files to "Update.zip"
Copy to sd card.
Then, follow directions as stated on page one of ROM thread.
tried A7 still says no

Try downloading it again. You might get the whole download, but a portion of it might be corrupt. Happens all the time.
redownloaded. saved as a zip renamed Update.zip but now the A7 doesn't read the card. its in but A7 says no update preformed...insert micro sd card with update.zip file....... WHICH IS ALREADY IN IT!!!!!????

If you are using a windows computer you just need to rename the file to Update. Not Update.zip. The .zip is already there, you just don't see it. If you rename it to Update.zip it actually makes it Update.zip.zip.
What method are you using to update? I suggest booting into recovery and then updating. Here is a link to a video on how to boot into recovery: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZypl3lYUdQ

Another user had similar problems. Read thru the following thread. I posted some step by step instructions there.

You also might need to format the SD card to FAT32.

Seems like you will not be happy with this device. Why not return it and get a device that has access to the market built in?

you are a genius. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, google translate
I want to make some queries if anyone can help me. I tell my problem:
1 - I tried to install a rom in my A500 with 3.1 acer, and I am root and add the acer recovery. The first problem I had is that by placing a microsd not riding. Install the USB mount and format the microsd (fat32) from windows, when placed on the tablet already recognized. Then install the ClockworkMod troor (can not remember how to spell) from the acer recovery, restart the tablet, enter recovery mode, enter the menu to explore microsd to get my rom and I get a message can not mount microsd.
Is there any place where you can find out a solution??
2 - As I am root and I have the original rom ClockworkMod in my 3.1, I can get and install the 3.2 OTA??
3 - possible to install a rom from another device or from a USB memory??
Friends on the forum thank you very much

not 100% sure what your problem is, but it may be a bad SD card. Try a different one if you have it. Format fat32 and place the rom you want on the sdcard.
once you have the rom on the sd card, boot into clockworkmod recovery. Scroll down to install zip from sdcard and select it. Then go to choose zip from sdcard and select it. If your sdcard is good then you should see the rom you want to flash there.
If you can see the rom you want to flash, i would then back out to the first menu in CWM and wipe the device before you flash the rom.
Hope it helps
I will try a new microsd, this was using a htc hd2 and it works (also works on Windows and Ubuntu) but each unit is a world apart. thanks

Find a stock 3.1 ROM ( so you can root) here, and flash it using power/volume.

When I say there are no files I literally mean that there in nothing on the internal drive. lol
When I click "install zip from sdcard" it tells me there are no files found. nothing in the "/" (root dir) :'(
I'm assuming there needs to be at least a folder like "/mnt/external_sd" for the Recovery Mod to access the external sd card?!
The above link requires me to access the official acer recov, don't know how to do that seeing as CWM is there.
I don't understand why they would put options in the Clockwork Recovery that could format the internal drive completely...there's no "/mnt" or "/system" or anything...
Kinda sh**ting myself as my tab is now less than a doorstop
PS. it also says "can't mount /sdcard"
HAHA.....ok, jokes on me....I just noticed that the reason for the device not picking any files up from the "sdcard" was because the damn thing formatted my EXTERNAL CARD.
So, kids...what have we learned today, beside that I'm (in the great words of Red Foreman) a dumb-ass, it's that CWM read from your EXTERNAL sdcard and NOT, i repeat, NOT your internal.
Sorry, and thanks anyway
Ummm yeah, I assumed you had no files, even before you apparently knew it. That's why I provided the link for you to d/l the stock ROM of your choice via PC, copy the files to SD card and flash using stock recovery

This is pretty common knowledge...
Never had the problem before, so I forgot, you ever forget, well, I forgot.
Thanks anywho
We all do stuff like that from time to time as we are only human. I seen people not unmount the sd card and it make the card unreadable and you can't get the files off of it then. You have that grayed out sd card, when you try to use it.
Hi , I have a problem, after installing , through Acer Recovery , Cwm , I can't find a way to install a rom mod , like Thor one, Cmw can't see the update zip in external memory card saying E: can't mount , but card is there and I can see it in Astro file manager and I can't even choose another path, error is the same. Anyone can help?
Thanks Ramp
Common problem, LOTS of posts in here about the same thing over the last few months.
You'll need to reformat your SD in another device, preferably a proper PC, or try a different card (maybe a smaller one).
Hi,
I am a complete newb to HTC and know hardly anything about installing a NAND rom on my HTC HD2.
I bought the phone recently on Ebay, it was running windows 6.5 but I wanted to change it to the latest Android rom. I just want it to be Android, run smooth and fast, be able to access android store and get latest apps, have wifi, 3GS and all the features that the phone can handle.
Basically I am stuck on the MAGDLR V1.12 main screen after following mskip's guide on flashing a HD2. I installed HARDSPL 2.08 and flashed MAGDLR 1.13.
I then followed 'langthang's' guide on installing his latest rom updated on 31 Jan by 'flashing Recovery with edit' then done a partition recovery v1.13 150MB ( this is where I think I may have chosen to little). This is where I am stuck at and do not know what to do next on installing a rom.
I know this may seem very 'newb' to many of you but I would be grateful for your guidance on just installing a good rom.
Thanks
When I go to AD Recovery it says in red ERROR: Invalid boot image header. And on startup something about kernel open failed.
i am completely confused and need help!!
install cwm recovery (latest is 5.0.x.x) again with correct partition size required by the rom. you need to edit flash.cfg and enter the correct size e.g.150 or 200 etc..
I have installed CWM 5.0.2.6 with a 200 partition size and can go to the AD recovery menu now. How do I edit the flash.cfg and actually go about putting the rom on the sd card using MAGDLR, I amconfused on that aswell do I extract the rom to my desktop or just put the rom zip file straight on the SD??
Thanks
Put rom zip without tampering with it if don't know wat to do...then get into cwm recovery ... install froM SD card n choose the zip...
Flash.cfg can be opened in notepad
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App

Ok.
I do not get the Flash.cfg part at all, what do I edit and copy? I am using the HDToolkit4 2.01 to partition it now.
Also do I have to put the rom on the SD card to extract it from cwm recovery, not by going into USB mass storage mode??

I would suggest installing notepad++, you open the CWM folder you download and right click the flash.cfg file. Then you can edit the recovery size there.
I would suggest that you do not use MAGLDR to transfer a rom to your sdcard as there is a good chance it will corrupt, file transfer is still unstable. Just flash the correct recovery size, then boot into recovery from MAGLDR and transfer the rom to your sdcard there.
Do not extract the rom zip by the way, just place the whole zip on your sd and flash that.
What do I exactly edit?? Where is the CWM folder?? I still do not get this part at all, can someone guide me through it..
I flashed the recovery size through the HDToolKit...
Also, when putting the ROM on the SD Card, Do I have to take out the SD and put the ROM on that way with a adapter on my PC, OR can I just boot into recovery from MAGLDR and then connect my phone via USB with the SD inside and transfer it that way??
*****bump

If you look at the flash.cfg in Langthang's thread, yours should look exactly like that when opened (make sure to open flash.cfg, not flash.cfg.txt) in notepad++ or whatever notepad type thing (not MS Word) and just change yours to look the same as the example one then save it. You should only have to change the numbers. Flash the new recovery then copy the ROM as a zipped folder onto your sd card using a card reader if possible. Boot into recovery then select install zip from SD card, select your file and there you go, one working HD2 with Android

Ok I attached the recovery that I use with Team Blue Droid (credits to Dansta for porting it for us)
Open that .7z file and extract the folder to somewhere on your computer. Open the folder and inside you will see a bunch of files (one of which is the flash.cfg).
Now right click that and edit it with either notepad or notepad++ and adjust the recovery size as need for the rom of your choice. Save it and then while booting into MAGLDR connect your phohne to your PC.
Select the Daf.exe file and let it run, once completed you will have successfully flashed your recovery. Just boot into recovery from MAGLDR and then select mount usb (I believe that is the option). Then you can mount your sdcard and copy the rom that way. Once done just flash the rom with the install zip from sdcard option.
Post if you have more questions
HI,
First I've written a guide to magldr and clk, so if you want a little extra info it may help.
Second, I would recommend the program called "HD2 Toolkit" Their is a link to it also in my guide.
You need to consider updating to magldr 1.13 if you are going to use magldr, things will just work better with the latest version. Also unless you have a very good idea of what you're doing, the new clk1.5 rc1 is probably your best bet, it makes everything so much simpler.
But back to your magldr problem and the hd2 toolkit program, this program is an automatic flasher for the hd2, magldr clk and cwm.
OK thanks. What Roms do u reckon I download?? I want all the general features and Appstore..

You know it really depends on your preference as there is a wide range. There are Sense roms (2.1-3.5) AOSP roms, CM7 roms, MIUI roms, and CM9/ICS roms. The choice is really up to you
OK thanks alot for the help guys, learnt alot. Managed to sort it all out and installed this Rom on it, everything looks to be working fine.
Thank You!
