Ok, seriously. I have just spent about 2 hours searching (googleing, and binging) the world wide webernet looking for a legal way to download movies to my wm6.5 phone. I must be retarded, i can find about a million file converters and then the special software that you have to install on your phone, and even a few places to download converted movies from other users, but GOOD GRAVY!!!!! I have been a windows mobile user since my first htc "star trek" flip phone, then the 8520 then the tilt , the tilt 2 and the pure, and for the life of my i couldnot figure out why so many people bought into the whole iphone thing. I mean, as back assward as that company is run there is one thing that they can do right, give people the big things that they want! We've been gloating about our copy and paste for the last three years, why the apple people have been downloading music and movies and surfing the net with out having to do a soft reset every 4 hours. I am really frustrated tonight, and that has been made worse by my fruitless search for somewhere to download a movie that i can watch while on the road tomorrow.
Does anyone out there have any solutions, ideas, or and iphone i can borrow??? I dont mind to download to the computer and then sync to the phone, i just cant find anything?!?!?
If u use Coreplayer u can download .avi files to play on the phone without any converting
Rock player or yxplayer is also good.
YxPlayer can play any video format including .mkv without converting.

Thats the point, i dont want to have to download another player, I mean thats not the end of the world i guess, but where do the movies come from???? Why dont we have an "itunes" or some sort of website where we can go to rent or buy movies that will play on our devices? Windows mobile has been around for a long time now and maybe im the only one who is willing to pay for a service like that, its just occuring to me why the ipod/iphone is so popular inspite of the way apple does business. Thanks for the replys though.
You can download the movies via Usenet or Torrents
or stream Hulu and the likes through Opera or PIE.
I would prefer to legally own the movies, and Hulu was a great solution, but they shut down all mobile units a year ago. Although i heard that there is, or is soon to be an iphone app to watch hulu movies for a 10$ monthly fee. Which wouldnt be to bad, but again, im gonna need the damn iphone!
you can use hulu if you use skyfire web browser, plus skyfire is the best browser for flash.
The wife got 2 Free Kin TWOm's from verizon today I didnt even know she had placed an order for them. We both had upgrades available & she wanted a Solid Feature phone without having to spend money on a data plan.
Looking at the phone I really like it. Great Camera, Video & I really enjoy the Zune built it. I do have a couple of cons about the phone which is there are no hacks for it, Cant expand the memory & doesnt play games but for now I can look past that.
I cant share photo's at all till i reach 8 posts both phones have switchable OS's

Why does everyone complain about no expandable memory? What the hell does the average person need more than 8 gigs for? Alas you can play javascript games view the thread in kin two software development.
I have alot of music that I wanted to put on the phone.
Congrats on your new Kin!
What did you mean when you said they have switchable OS's?
i meant both are switchable between the TWO kin OS's. Original & the M version. Not switchable as in a different OS installed. I wish there was a way but at the moment there isnt.
I really do love the phone but the lack of being able to install a second OS & play games really hurts this for me.

Well, how many feature phones do you know that can install a second OS? Much less have the power to run any other OS like WP7 or Android? There's only one other I know of and that's the HTC feature phone from AT&T. As for music, an average song is only 3-5 MB. 8GB of storage gives you.. lets see about 2,000 songs. That's quite a lot of music for one person to listen to.
well the good thing is, is that the phone does support AAC format so that does help cut down the MB of the song.
File Formats Supported, Audio: Windows Media Audio (.wma), MP3 (.mp3), Advanced audio coding (AAC) files such as .mp4, .m4a, .m4b, and .movfiles.
Hello all, just joined today as I ordered a KIN TWOm yesterday. It might be here on Friday. I like many of you have wanted a feature/smartphone but did not want to shell out the $$ for a data plan. I am almost always near a wifi and that will be fine for me.
Regards
Sean
I actually sold both Kins & me and the wife moved to Smartphones with data plans. I hope you enjoy the phone I just couldnt find what I was looking for with the Kin TWOm

I would do it also, if i get paid for it (no one locally would buy it, rofl). Then buying a chinese android to code code code for it .
My daughter has an ipad, grandparent gift. A big gift for a 9 year old if you ask me. Well, she is struggling reading an assigned book for the summer so I agreed to buy the audio version of the book if she would read along with it. The CDs arrive and I spend an evening ripping them. Then I have to add them to itunes. Oh but wait, there is an itunes update, and then an update to the ipad software, but before you do that, make sure to back up the ipad so you don't lose your apps. Then you have to figure out how to get the audiobook to the ipad using this unintuitive mess called itunes. What a mess. Does apple even have a clue how easy it is on the other side?
On my tab, it would have been 1. rip 2. copy.

What do you use for ripping? I spent ages the other week editing some TV recordings I'd copied from my Sky+ box onto a DVD recorder, couldn't copy direct from the DVD recorders' USB port, so ended up burning a DVD. Any apps I found for ripping the DVD were £40+... any better options?

I agree with this. VLC is a must for the iPad.
Two of the many reasons I believe Android is superior to iPad:
1. Apple has way too much control over the Apple Store.
The operating model of the Android Market is the way it should be done to encourage developers to build on the platform
2. The ability to customise Android, whether it's end-user customisation with things like launchers, widgets, etc or developer customisation in the form of custom ROMs and the like

I agree, but majority of people who buy i-devices are semi-retarded and dont understand how to customize a device, but when a i-user see's a tricked out android device they are all like
If you take a deep breath and actually look at it, it's fairly easy. More difficult than on android? Yes, but no where near as complicated as you make it out to be.
totally agree with that...
i experienced that and changed to use Tab...

I used Handbrake, and liked it well enough, but I'm having trouble getting the settings right to convert a movie and keep it under 2GB. Suggestions?
My 2¢
Recently my little brother started home school, so we got DVD's, 60 of them, but how can we put them on the phone? or on any other computer, seeing how netbooks dont have dvd players,
my steps:
1. RIP the DVD (U may use Handbreak, I use DVD FAB) with regular settings, it will create Audio and Video_TS folders,
2. Get VOBMerge (Link to their website) , what this program does, combines the VOB's in one big one,
3. Get Auto Gordian Knot 2.53b, you then select Combined VOB from step 2 and convert it to whatever size you want, i choose the option to make 2 CD's / 700mb each. This is the program people use to put DVDRips on torrents and other places, im sure u wondered how can they get such high quality video?
Alas, in a little while you'll have a FULL DVD (Movie, Music or whatever) in SUPER HIGH QUALITY in 700MB,
Feel free to ask me any questions,
To complicated, you can use only AutoGordianKnot to rip DVD, or make ISO with DVD Shrink where you can remove some useless think from DVD.

Probably if you are doing a movie, that is ONE file,
or is separated in 1.1; 1.2; 1.3...1.x VOB then yes, you technically could you just this program alone however,
in my case, i have 12 separate chapter, between 4-5 VOB in each chapter, when i select AutoGK it does only 15-20 min of the DVD, hence i am forced to use this 'work around', I have yet to find a simpler solution, that would take ALL the video footage from DVD and just convert it into one .AVI, .MPEG, .WHATEVER

To be fair, maybe you're the one who doesn't know how to do stuff?!! My 11 year old cousin does this in his sleep. Geez...
What you just described is so elementary, you should be ashamed to even complain as to the reason you hate the iPad. Wow..
iTunes doesn't force you to update, neither are you forced to update your iPad. It as simple as choosing not to. Put CD in, rip, drag and drop onto iPad. How "hard" is that?!!

You never have to update iTunes and your iPad software you can simply decline the option.
Backing up is an option as well. You have to do the same for Android when updating or risk losing everything.
I use both Apple and Android and love them both, it just sounds like it was bad timing and for some reason you thought you had to do the updates then.
Some retarded polling company advertised today that most Android users would rather use their ipads.
What a bunch of crap !!
I have an iPad from work, with 3G, it is good for RDP to the servers, and a few other theings, the email app on ipad is so juvenile.
Nothing compares to Android, and the super stuff that XDA devs make available for our pleasure.

Hi everyone
I haven't posted / lurked the firums here since back when I baught my original nexus one phone.
Shortly after that the iPhone 4 and eventually the 4s came out and I have found it hard to go back to android ( I liked the simplicity of iOS)
Lately i am getting over the struggle between Apple and the hackers that allow customers do do what they want with their device. ( I always have my iPhone hacked just so I can run the tweaks apple don't provide)
The apple tv pairs quite nicely with my iPhone and I have also hacked that to run plex so I can stream from my pc.
Development for plex on apple tv is slow and usually buggy due to apples restrictions and every update means developers need to wait for a jailbreak before they can continue development..
Which brings me to the point of this post. The nexus q just might be what I need to come back to android.
These are what would convince me to come back
1. Streaming from pc not just from google play ( I believe it's already being worked on / almost done )
2. Plex / other apps like airtight working ( I believe they should eventually)
3. This would be the icing on the cake. Being able to start a movie / tv show that is on my pc over 3G. Eg. Tge girlfriend is at home and wants to watch a movie but is not too tech savvy so I load plex or a similar app on my phone while I'm at work and select a movie from my library that is on my pc at home and it starts playing on the nexus q!
Should these become a reality I would buy a galaxy s3 and a nexus q right away.
What other things would MAKE you buy a nexus q?
Well only two reasons prevent me from buying one.
Nexus Q is not available in Europe
No Music/Movie/TV Shows in the german Play store
So without the ability to stream whatever I want without the Play Store, it is quite useless at the moment. As soon as stable Custom Roms allow me to stream over WiFi and/or run XBMC I'll import one.
I like the Design, the basic Idea and well, Android. I just don't get why Google kind of messed this up by leaving it up to the Community to make this Ball of any use.
I am hoping the awesome devs have this thing cracked wide open with opportunity soon.
As for the leaving it to the community i kind of like the idea. Its like Google saying we trust the community and don't want to influence them one way or another so they gave them pretty much an empty slate to work with.
You can do music. vpn into music.google then it activates.
I just wish this thing wasn't $299.

I have activated music, however I can't order anything since checkout does not let me buy stuff with my credit card. Besides that I'd have to use a proxy 24/7 which slows down everything. That is not the kind of "experience" google wants to deliver and I don't want to have it either.
It is time that Google goes global with those things, can't be that hard...

I say a realistic price would spur my purchase. $99.
Frankly, with my PC connected to my TVs and audio receiver already, and my phone, tablets, etc already able to connect to my PC and/or TV, I just don't see an advantage to this device.
I'm sure the new nexus q will have some awesome features, I'm not sure about the ones you need but the wonderful thing about android is I'm sure one of our great developers will make that all possible. I have the q and I like it, I'm definitely going to need some more features to really love it but what I have now is great... Especially because it's free.
The new one will most likely be cheaper and have more features I think that it will be better than the Apple tv.

Of course. The thing that I did immediately was get SqueezePlayer running on it. This allows the Q to play local music over the network in just about any format (e.g. mp3, 24-bit flac, etc.). Control is handled by an app on your phone/tablet like Orange Squeeze, Squeeze Commander, Logitech Squeezebox Controller, or by pointing your browser to the Logitech Media Server's web interface. Oh, by the way, this also works with Squeezebox apps (e.g. Spotify, Pandora, Rhapsody, Slacker, MOG, etc.). Checkout the list here: http://www.mysqueezebox.com/appgallery
The Q has a ton of potential right out of the box and is easily worth what it is going for on eBay these days - if the user is savvy enough to exploit its potential.
I think the Q was the perfect device for a place like a bedroom where you'd otherwise just have a simple shelf unit (or I do at least). It's more convenient and a bit cleaner than always connecting your phone to the aux input. Plus, it's nice to be able to control it remotely.
The only thing is that it's too expensive. It's priced as a high-end device, but in most of us already have a "high-end" solution for this sort of thing (ie: a PC or similar) which can do a lot more. A device like the Q needs to be [just a bit] cheaper so that it can compete with a shelf unit. Though I realize I'm not the first one to say this.
Hello Folks,
first of all i wanna introduce myself. I am an 19 year old student from the Netherlands.
My hobby's are football, networking, tweaking with computers and smartphones/tablets and playing on the PS3 xD.
Right now im an iPhone user for almost 3 years and i am beginning to get really tired of it... THe OS is so incredibly boring and there are no tweaking opportunities available. Even if you have jailbroken it, it gets really unstable and there are actually, besides a few cool tweaks, no cool things to do in the OS....
Therefore i decided to order the new HTC One. I was thinking about buying the S4 from Samsung but i stick with my pre-order of the HTC One.
I really like too know from you people what the pro's and con's are if you compare the iOS vs the Android.
Things i like on the iPhone:
- iCloud
- Protube (jailbreak), directly convert and download youtube videos to an audio extension and import it directly to your library.
- Apps for streaming movies/series
Well, thats all...
The protube tweak was really nice, so i wanna know if there is something similar to install on the android os too?
Besides that, i really like to watch series on my iPhone with some apps from cydia (jailbreak)It lets me watch anime shows and tv shows directly on my phone, and my question is:
Are there apps on the android available to watch tvshows (also non-anime shows) and movies? (STREAM-BASED) for free?
Last question:
I read alot about flashing your ROM etc. But i am completely new to android (and i mean completely). If i start reading a tutorial about "how to flash the rom", i definitely lose track about whats going on.......
SO if someone could help me out with my questions, you help me alot!!
So thanks in advance, and have a nice day folks!!

Sorry
Well instead of icloud theres google drive or dropbox
And Im pretty sure theres an app that lets you download youtube videos also check out the android market website.

well for streaming there are a few like:
cool streaming :https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.coolstreaming.android&hl=en
jetflick : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jt.w32watch&hl=en
mivo tv: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mivo.tv&hl=en
as for ur question for flashing is concerned i will just give u a quickie:
first is the rooting (similar as to jailbreak) to gain superuser (admin) access
second is mods which u can flash by using custom recoveries like sound mod, graphics mod etc and by custom recovery i mear using twrp http://teamw.in/project/twrp or cwm http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager since the stock recovery on android does't allow to do much stuff like flashing zip files from sd card or flashing custom kernels
Third by rom we mean here custom os u can say it as modified stock android os of ur phone like for htc one here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191462
this above link will answer all ur questions in detail and if u have any doubts or questions well shoot that;s what forums are for ain't it
