Can only access mobile versions on many major sites... regardless if you use browsers that have desktop settings!
WTF SAMSUNG..... WHY DO YOU THINK WE OPTED FOR A BIGGER SCREEN???? THIS IS ONE MAJOR REASON. HELLO?
Man.. unreal.
Wondering if rooting in some way could enable circumventing this problem.
Actually might take it back for this.
Odd. using Dolphin HD i am able to change the user agent of the browser and browse either mobile or full version of the site.
Sometime after you change the user agent you need to clear your cookies and restart the browser. Have you tried this?
Have U tried nytimes, cnn, msnbc, nfl(. Com) engadget,....

I just got it working like the post said above I clear cache, data, history in both stock browser and dolphin. Then opened dolphin and hit menu>settings>under dolphin setting select User Agent and select desktop. After doing that I was able to go to ESPN and CNN and it was finally not in mobile view.

So I fixed my battery issue, but now web is just closing on its own. Damn I suck, sorry guys gigantic noob. I don't want to download another browser cause I honestly don't mind the standard browser. I've rooted and done the GPS thing.
Please, help out a struggling peon???

Closing as soon as it opens or after some use? If the former, is your home page set to Google.com with location access enabled?
It's an Android software problem imho. I was just entering a reply in a different xda forum USING OPERA and before I could finish the f'n browser just f'n closed on me. Didn't save where I was browsing or anything.
Has happened to me several times and I don't think it's only the stock browser.
Yeah, google is set as home page and location finder is on.

o noticed that with the lag fix i applied, the browser freezes up or just wont load all the way. I removed the lag fix and everything works fine. I don't even know if there is a way to delete the cache on the ext2 partition. cache cleaner doesn't fix it so it just builds up and builds up

I bet that's your problem. To fix it, try to get into settings before the page finishes loading. Clear location access, and until Samsung releases a fix, don't allow Google.com to have location access.
If you really like the local search feature, try "places directory" from the market in the mean time.
this happened to me everytime i tried to go to flash intesive websites. it wasn't too often though, i ended switching to xscope is the best browser i have used on a mobile device(personal opinion).
give it a try.
stock, dolphin and skyfire all crash on me if i go to some web pages with flash. Turning off use plugins in the settings fixes it.
So I'm new to the Samsung Vibrant... and I notice that there is no option in the Web Browser to select mobile websites or Desktop.... is there any way to force the browser to load the Desktop webpage instead of the WAP or mobile...
thanks
no body?
You can try downloading skyfire browser. I believe that has the ability to toggle desktop/mobile.
yea but in other 2.1 devices the option is there in the stock browser.... anyway to add that option...? I do not like third party browsers
I am also curious about this. Is there a way maybe to replace the browser with the one from CM-5.0.8?

It is not in our stock browser, so the only solution would be to add a 3rd party browser. You could always pull a browser from CM5 and push it to your phone.
I bealive there's an addon on dolfin browser

and how to do it? I tried and did not work
any other way... I do not like skyfire or dolphin... it should be a way
I am running the dexter rom 1.42 (which is the bomb diggity..Thanks Dexter) and i cant figure out how to force the stock browser to go to the non-mobile version of sites. i tried the About:debug thing but that doesnt work for the stock browser. i tried loading dolphin or Skyfire off the market and for some reason they wont show up when I do a search. can some one tell me how to set it up for non-mobile sites and tell me why i cant download dolphin or skyfire?...
Once you enter: about:debug, you must push the menu button(while still in stock browser), then select settings, and stroll to the bottom where the UAstring option we be to change to desktop.
For other browsers like dolphin go to android section in xda, and search through the android app and game sub-section
Hope that helped

Hi.
Only enter in browser setting and uncheck box mobile view mode.
How do I get my defy to always display websites in desktop format? I want desktop to be my default settings so that all sites load this way and never realize that I am surfing the web from a mobile phone. I am using the default browser and do not want to (and should not have to) download a new browser.
What I did: I went into my browser, went to about:debug, went to UA string, and changed my option to desktop. However, most pages still load the mobile sites.
Does anyone know how to fix this? My phone is rooted.
Also, I have a tmobile bookmark and it is displaying as locked. How would I unlock and delete this bookmark?

Here's what I tried. Open browser, go to settings > advanced > user agent and selected Desktop. I then opened a website which has an android app but it opened up the website instead of redirecting me to get the app. I then changed the setting back to Android, restarted the browser and tried the site again and this time it took me to the app page. I'm using quarx CM9 on red lens defy.

I do not have an option in settings for "advanced". Are you using a default browser?
Here's a quick guide how to set the browser to show desktop versions of websites. Images are from Honeycomb 3.2.
I am having issues in which the browser won't follow a link, or when it does it loses and login or other info (like where I am, preferences).
I often cannot do thing is different frames, like check boxes on a filter for a list, and what is displayed seems to be generic to all visitors.
If I "Open in a new tab" then I can open a link with the same info as in that browser page, but just clicking the links fails.
I am having this issue across browsers. I am using the stock ROM, with TWRP recovery, unlocked and rooted.
Any ideas?

Using stock 4.3, tried different browsers (Chrome, Dolphin, stock browser).
It *seems* like my browsing was good for a while last night with stock browser, then started the same symptoms. Not sure if my struggle with desktop vs mobile sites had anything to do with it.
Do the browsers not keep information page to page if you request desktop site?

Do you have any ad blocker apps that you are using? Yes, the browsers should keep the information. Look under your browser settings under Privacy, Content Settings, etc and look that the options selected.
Another thought: you do have "Accept cookies" and "Enable JavaScript" checked?

I do because I am not as concerned about privacy issues on my tablet. There are less instances of viruses, malware, etc on Android. In addition, if I was to get malware, virus, etc., I can simply wipe the N10 and start over. For me personally, I look for the best overall user experience that provide me with the best performance and options.
