[Q] HTC Locations on other Android phones? - Desire HD General

I really like the no connection required philosophy of HTC Locations but I'm an Epic 4G owner. What exactly would have to be done to get HTC Locations running on a non-HTC phone like my Epic?
MOD Edit: MOVED TO GENERAL

Can this be in the evo section?
Well, this is a general section.
Lots of us don't leave this sub forum.
and lots of us are moving to the EVO.
It's already in the EVO section.
Notice the 60 hits on it and you are the first to say anyhting.
He never said anything. You must be going blind in your old age.
What's with all the wrong section Nazism. It's starting to make me prefer when everything was just in the cdma hero section. I don't dig through every portal for news that may be relevant to me in some way. I think it's safe to say that people with cdma heros are probably pretty interested in the EVO, it's the only other htc android phone coming to sprint as of late.

No, this concerns a lot of us and we feel like talking about it here. Thanks.
That's gratifying, the "#" and screen shots.
Good find.
Now where are the directions?
Hmmmm! wonder if the 2.1 hero and evo kernels are similar? Naw!

Froyo+Sense?

So are any of the chefs out there working on porting somthing like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=720682 or making somthing like that?
Wow that would be awesome on the slide!
I think if we were to get a froyo and sense rom it would more than likely be the espresso version vs the traditional sense just simply because the traditional sense would have issues with landscape and such.

They need to make a full working hero/legend/froyo-sense rom :] w/og hero icons im using the hero to slide right now i love it but the problem is the rosie/htc sense is transparent which through me off a bit if i had more experiance in rom building i would try lol but sadly im not ;[
Awesome
this would totally rock I wonder who would step in and build ROMS now that Eugene would most likely be busy with his family and everything. Hopefully this happens and we get FROYO+SENSE that would be awesome .. I cant live without SENSE lol;/..
I'm sure chiefz.reloaded will work on the if we get enough up's for this thread

****ING.
****.
Are you an idiot, or do you enjoy spamming the DEVELOPMENT section with your bull**** posts? THERE IS A SECTION FOR THIS ****, http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=685, it's called QUESTIONS and answers for a reason
Read the rules before you create a new thread again.
Calm your ass down. Asking about whether or not something is being developed/ported in the development section seems logical to me.

Stoney, understand where R0man is coming from. It has been mentioned before that Sense UI is proprietary, so including it in any Froyo rom would be dubious at best.
Not only that, what you're asking for is *EXACTLY* what will be offered by T-Mobile in August. The OTA update tentatively scheduled for next month will bring Froyo with Sense to your Slide so there is really no reason to inquire about this.
These questions would best be directed via private message or tweet to a rom developer rather than posted in its own thread on XDA.
What I mean is froyo with NORMAL sense not Espresso Sense

No, it logically belongs in the Question and Answers section. Read your own post, specifically "Asking about..."
What does that imply?
A, wait for it, QUESTION! You know where questions go? Q&A!

That doesn't change anything, really. Froyo is barely functional on Slide, porting 2.2 from Desire would be extremely difficult and time consuming. If YOU want to do the work and have something to show us, THEN make a thread about it. Don't make a thread asking for a ROM just to suit your needs because no one is going to spend 15+ hours getting every little thing working for 1 or 2 people.
Please, I'm begging you, read the rules before you create a thread again.

[Q] What is the Best Rom to Get?

Hi,
I've been lurking around for sometime and I finally decided to root and flash my hero. The question is this:
I think I want a Froyo rom but I don't know which one to get. I'm pretty sure I'd like to have APPS2SD and Sprint Nav on it right away(I don't want to install them myself). Or should I get an 2.1 Rom (since some people have been saying that Froyo is slow [still need APPS2SD and Sprint Nav])? any recommendations on which one to get?
Thanks
yea..u hav been around since 2008..SO YOU SHOULD KNOW THE RULES! the fact that when you made this thread you checked the box saying "yes this is a question" knowing this was a question. yet you stil posted this in the wrong section and didnt read the rules apparently. Im sorry for being rude but you have been on the forums for a LONG time and by then you should have atleast seen the sticky in this development section.
Froyo is the way to go...cm6
No problems, I saw the sticky but there are tons of choices and I didn't see any recommendations. Secondly, the post on stickys doesn't say "no question threads". It just said that questions should go in there place. I thought since this is question related to roms it should go here (I apologies of I missunderstood the post). Thirdly, I only had the hero for a few weeks. While the account is old I really have only been here for about a month.
Anyways, I do appreciate that you gave a recommendation.
Thanks

Froyo has native A2SD, but if you want Sprint Navigation, stick with Nfinite's stock ROM.
I'd recommend any of jaybob's builds of cm6. Apps2sd is native to FroYo (no patition needed), flashing gapps will get you a navigator quick (and better than sprint's imo). Get GPS Status from market to maintain gps. If you like sprint's visual voicemail, there's a thread in the apps and themes section I think. Get Dialer One from market if you're used to Sense dialer, or even if you're not, it beats the stock dialer. And always remember, Nandroid is your friend, good luck!
check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=775841
and vvm + sprint nav is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=774172
jaybob's builds are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731659
Aosp v7 for ROM. Firerats partition mod. Deced3nce has great kernels. I have over 50 apps installed and have almost 250MB left internal memory. I have Sprint Navigation and Sprint Visual Voice Mail as well as Sprint Football all running with no problems.
I am getting quadrant scores of 460+ and its the most stable setup I've had since I started flashing.
All can be found on here.

I would do CM6.0.0 stable with my theme... but then again I'm biased
@LiquidSolstice - Thanks
@Ezintn -
Thank you as well, I somehow missed CM6 sprint nav post so you get my applause [APPLAUSE]. And also thanks for the app recommendations, I'll look into them. As far as visual voice mail I got myself google voice. I think I'll take your advice and install CM6 and then add the rest...it sounds like the best option.

Well, I'll be damned. I did not know that CM6 could handle Sprint Navigation. Learn something new each day, I guess. End of the day, it really comes down to NFinite's ROMs or aospMOD/CM6.

root the phone, install a custom recovery. Try out the HTC Sense ROM in the G1 section.
Good Day
Wrong section.
Try searching and reading.
Thank you, I will have to check that out. I guess my real question was is it possible to install a .apk of htc sense on top of say, CM 6.1?

Most Sense UI rom system apps you cannot.
They would have to be modified for the Google framework.
It can be done but in most cases it's too much work.
It was done with the HTC Music app but I think that was about it.

No. Wrong. Unless you are developing or planning on developing then everything pretty much goes in General. 90% of questions posts that have a [Q] in the title belong in General (Q&A).
It works like this:
People with unrooted phones and just want information should go to General.
People with rooted phones but have ideas or suggesions should post in that particular rom thread for the developer... NEVER a new thread in Development! Otherwise, General.
Questions, comments or submitting of or about customizations (themes, wallpapers, etc) should go in Themes
Questions, comments or submitting (as long as it's not warez) of or about individual apps from Market should go in Apps.
Questions, comments about sdcards, cases, shields, batteries, etc should go in Accessories.
Safe rule of thumb is if you don't know... post in General.
If you don't know how to compile a rom then you should think twice before posting in Development (since it's specifically towards those that are developing or at least the members that are contributing useful information, walkthroughs, guides, etc).
Pretty simple really.
But if you DO know how to create roms and apps then use apktool to decompile the htc framework and try porting it over. However HTC doens't like to release a lot of their sources so if apktool doesn't work then it'll probably be easier for a developer to start by making his/her own as an imitation. Just don't blame XDA if you get sued.

Ok thank you for clearing that up, I will see if I can figure it out and let you know if I sucessfully port it over. BTW I love the community hero mix, I don't think I really even need to try to find a way to make sense work now that I have it, but I am still intrigued Thank you for making it, it is awesome

Nope. Actually, flashing a ROM using recovery should never brick a phone. Worse case scenario, it'll throw you into a boot loop, but then you just boot back into recovery and flash another ROM.
And most G1 ROM's will work for myTouch 32B owners, since a 32B myTouch is basically a G1 without the physical keyboard.

[Q] Froyo with HTC Sense ID ?

I'm expecting my epic any day now
studying the site for the last few days and came across this :
youtube.com/watch?v=GPrcdbIuWaU
does anyone know which ROM this actuallly is?
thanks!
Hey thanks for joining XDA.
Unfortunately I don't know what ROM that is, but I'm sure someone here will come up with the answer.
And just a heads up (not to pick on but to inform) please post future question threads like these in the General forum. The Development forum is for specifically discussing development. I know there are a lot of bad examples already but the more we can prevent the quicker that will change.
Judging by the title, you're asking because it appears to be HTC Sense UI. It unfortunately is not. It's just a "theme". You can tell by the lockscreen and the system info screen he calls up. It's Froyo build DJ29 (which is one of the Froyo build leaks on this forum). You can however achieve this look even on a stock Epic. The weather clock and some of the toggle widgets (vibrate, wifi, etc) are Beautiful Widgets from the market. The dock and calendar widget are part of LauncherPro, also from the market. Both apps have themes you can download that emulate that HTC Sense UI look. The live wallpaper is Nexus Revamped (you guessed it, from the market). Have fun with your new Epic!

Yes. You can install the launcher pro app and the beautiful widgets app and theme them. They do not require root to install/customize.
