Activesync problem - only connects as HDD - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

My Touch Diamond 2 has stopped synchronising with my Windows XP SP2 PC. When I connect the cable the phone is always recognised as an external disk drive, even though I select "Activesync" as the option on the phone. It's been working fine up to now.
I've tried rebooting both phone and PC and it didn't resolve it.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Try removing the SD card.

check device manager > can you see this devide here?
maybe with yellow exclamation?
try to update driver for that device > point it to C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\Drivers

S.O.S. Card Export II!

Hi guys!
I'm using Card Export II on my Jam and it seems to wors fine but... what is the righ sequence to use Card Export?
I enabled card Export... I connecto via USB my Jam... I write some info on storage Card... I disable the USB drive from WinXp as it is a normal pen drive and when I put back my Jam in the PC, I can read the file but I can delete or write on it!
I have to make soft reset to restore the normal r/w method... :-(
Seems it goes in read only way but I can't understand why. :-(
Ho ho!
Tested it out here.
It doesn't matter whether you just unplug the device, or remove it properly, if you have "Protect MBR" checked in the options, then the second time you connect the device it will be in read only until you soft reset (or restart the software with a task manager).
If you uncheck "Protect MBR", then it works. Given that any protection sounds important, if you untick "Protect MBR", click ok, then retick it again, the next connection will be okay regardless.
Bug? *shrug* It's still pretty good.
I just tryed to uncheck the MBR flag but it doesn't works too!
I found the problem but I can't solve it! :-(
The problem is that when I unplug the USB the N of the Storage Card in the settings of the Card Export II goes from 1 to 7...
If I plug the USB with 7 storege card it doesn't works, if I make soft reset or just set 1 storege card in the settings it works fine!
booh! :-(

So that's why I'm getting 7 removeable devices when I plug it in! I just thought it was a bug, haha!
Have you installed the proggie externally? This was my prob. After installing internally, everything worked OK

installing movies??

I have a HERM 100 and need help installing movies or music in the phone. I have the activesync program and when I connect the usb it says i have to download the program. I already tried deleting and reinstalling the program but my phone still won't read it.
Is there any other options to install movies or music in my phone? Please help! Thanks!
if you are using a microSD card then all you have to do is use the adapter that came with the card and copy the movies/music onto the card from your PC then insert the card into your phone.
and if that doesnt work then make sure you have the "allow USB connections" box ticked in the connection settings on activesync. you may have to restart both your phone and your computer for the changes to take affect.

Storage Card folder gone after ActiveSync connects

This morning I started to have strange problem ...
When I connects my HD to PC using USB cable, ActiveSync starts (in ActiveSync, not "Storage Card" mode) but ... in Resco Explorer my SD card folder is GONE
If I disconnect HD from PC and soft-reset, I'm able to see "\Storage Card" folder on HD. Connected through ActiveSync - it is gone again.
I did soft-reset, rebooted my PC - same thing.
Please, please, please help me.
depends how you connect to your PC - if you use the Activesync connection popup when you connect the usb then it should be there - if you use the Disk Drive popup it probably will not show.
untick the unnecessary folder file to sync
I'm using ActiveSync mode, not DiskDrive mode.
I'm only syncing Contacts and Calendar - as usual.
Any other ideas ?

Thanks for that thread. Currently I fixed the issue by inserting microSD into card reader, copy files to PC, formatting microSD it in my PC and copying files back. So far it works, but ... that is not good

Usb problem

Hello! (first post , have been reading for a while though)
I can't connect the phone to my PC (win7 64bit), not as a mass storage device or with Kies (it worked fine before with my home PC and an XP machine at work).
It stopped working after the PC said "Device drivers installed properly" (or something like that) when I connected it, after that I have'nt been able to make it work as mass storage device on any computer..
Very strange and very annoying!
I'm thinking I might factory reset the phone (would very anti-nice though to loose all apps and stuff), so I thought I'd ask here first if there are any possible solutions..
Thx!
if you open device manager in Win7 x64 do you see it listed as GT-I9000 in Portable Devices ?
that's what it shows in mine, and i'm on x64 Win7
it automatically opens in Mass Storage also works in Kies
WEE!! Got it to work just now!!
Rebooted the phone (as I do every day) and connected it to charge over night, and windows popped up with the "installing device driver blabla dialogue" and suddenly it works!?!
This after not working for at least a week on any computer...
I have no idea what might have caused it, but I'm just happy it works again
Still, very strange...
It shows up in the device manager now, it did'nt before.. Thx for the reply!
On Win XP
is there a certain driver i have to download before using USB Mass Storage option.
all i get are two removable drives icon. but they can't be opened
you should only have 1 removeable device icon, 2 if you have a micro SD card inserted.
if you configure the phone to ask you what to do with the usb during connection, then you can select Kies or Mass Storage
regardless both works fine
i do have two removable drives because of the addition of the sd card
its set on Mass Storage. but it still won't open. im not sure if Windows installed it properly though
the driver details:
driver files- system32\drivers\USBSTOR.sys
does it shows in device manager, as mentioned above ?

After connecting the phone via USB, did tell the phone to Mount the drives?
anyone else encountered this issue?
Is anyone else having trouble connecting their Galaxy to a PC? I don't know whether mine is faulty or not. Downloaded the Samsung Kies software but when I plug in the Galaxy Windows is unable to find a MTP USB device driver and the phone refuses to connect. This happens Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Also the Galaxy has a complete fit and keeps flashing between the home screen and MTP application screen while it's connected (wxw.youtube.com/watch?v=R9hdpJPCP-k). And I don't get the usual Android option to mount for file transfer. Am I missing something?

PC Does Not Recognize My Device

Hi,
I have a strange problem when I try to connect my device to the PC.
After I installed Kies for the first time, the PC recognized my device one time. After I had removed the USB connection, when I try to reconnect the device, the PC did not recognize it.
I tried to reinstall Kies, install drivers without the Kies, I rebooted my PC everytime - nothing worked, it still did not recognized.
The only thing that work is a System Restore which I did on my PC (for before I installed Kies for the first time), but then I got the same problem - for the first time I connected my device after the Kies installation, the PC recognized my device, but after I unplugged and reconncted the USB cabel, the PC did not recognize my device, again.
Meanwhile, my System Checkpoints on my PC where deleted (I guess because of the System Restore), so now I can not go back to square one again.
I tried to find identical problem in the forum, but I did not find one.
My operating system on my PC is Windows XP, 32bit (I do not have access to another operating system, surely not on a daily basis. If it is necessary, I will try to find a computer with another operating system).
The Kies version which I installed is 1.5.3, the most updated as of 31/10/2010, downloaded from the official Samsung website.
I do NOT use LauncherPro, or any other launchers for that matter (I only installed a few popular games, from the market, on my device).
Thank you!
Yuval.
Try removing any media which might be there on your internal sd card. If that doesn't work then try and format the internal sd card. Certain apps like winamp too prevent the phone from connecting to the pc. It sure did work for me. Hope it does for you too.

I did transfer some .mp3 and .wma files from my PC to my "media" folder in my device through Kies in my first (and successful) connection.
However, deleting them (+ reinstallation of Kies + rebooting of both my PC and my device) did not help, and my PC still does not recognize my phone.
How do I format my internal SD card?
Thanks!
if you have any other devices like printers, external hdds, etc connected, remove them and connect your phone.
Go to settings, sd card and phone storage, internal sd card. Unmount internal sd card and then format.

The only devices that are connected to my PC are the screen, mouse and keyboard. Should I remove and reconnect them?
Do you get the usb connection sounds when you connect and disconnect your phone to/from the pc?
It is all OK now .
The problem was two bad USB ports. It took my some time to cosider the posibility that both of them do not work well. Using a third USB port fixed the problem.
For all of you - if the phone uploads the "Kies" screen (the blue one) when connencted, it is probably the USB port or the USB cabel to blame.
