[Q] Desire Z root kernel module source - G2 and Desire Z General

Edit: "Rom Development" is only meant for very advanced technical discussion directly related to ROM development activity and the delivery of actual ROMs and ROM components ONLY. Nothing else goes in here. Moved thread to "General." Please refer to "[REF] STOP! Read before posting!" ~TheRomMistress
Does anyone have a link to the source code for the kernel module being used to root the Desire Z?
I did read the big long root thread but didnt see it there, just mentions of "IRC" and links to download the binary .ko file.

Sent from my HTC Desire Z

That's the binary he mentioned, he's asking for the source.
OP: To my knowledge, it hasn't been posted publicly.

evil D posted a Desire Z-based rooted kernel with OC and some tricks already incorporated (wake by trackpad, deodexed, zipaligned...)

how do you think about it?
Please reference the sticky thread in the development section for this device. There is an unreleased method.

[ALL MUST READ] XDA-Developers and the GPL

Dear kernel and ROM developers.
According to GPL v2 license, under which kernels are released, kernels must be released with source code provided.
To be fully compliant, the thread must contain.
@ kernel devs
Successfully build and produce a valid output file, which is the same format as provided in the binary
Contain all source code, interface definition files, scripts used to control compilation and installation of the executable (it is not required to include the actual compiler/toolchain, but sufficient information should be made available to obtain the SAME configuration, including compiler flags, as used to build the binary version as released
Example.
Kick-ass kernel
Built with android-toolchain 4.8 4.8-2013.05 (linking isn't a bad idea)
Branch used to compile (can be a direct link to git)
Name of the defconfig used in build
A short instruction about how to build it (not necessary, but useful)

@ ROM devs
if ROM uses custom boot.img, the source must be provided. If it uses kernel by someone else, the kernel thread must be linked in the OP
if the ROM contains stock kernel, source must be linked (official site can be used)
Using a non GPL compliant kernel makes your ROM non compliant and subject to removal
Violation of GPL is in fact a breaking of the law, so I don't have to explain what could be a final of this.
More information can be found in the news written by pulser_g2.
Thank you for your attention.

I'm leaving this thread open. To all developers, you have 7 days to comply with GPL rules. After this time ALL non GPL threads will be closed and links removed.
If you have some concerns or questions, feel free to chime in into this thread.

This user was warned about it before and didn't comply. Hence the removal. All the rest have 7 days to provide kernel sources in their threads.

Yes. All ROMs with kernels must have its source provided. No matter how old they are.

If you are not sure, remove a kernel from your zip

You can check the screenshots in the particular ROM thread and then find out from the screenshot about which kernel you used in the ROM and can provide a link to the kernels being used in your ROM.
Make it an announcement would be nice.
Much devs simply wont have read this thread like me too so my thread got locked.
Atm waiting for reopening.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree. One week is long enough to do such simple thing as adding a link. Every member need to read the rules while joining the XDA and the rule says:
9. Don't get us in trouble.
Don't post copyrighted materials or do other things that will obviously lead to legal trouble. If you wouldn't do it on your own homepage, you probably don't want to do it here either. This does not mean we agree with everything the software piracy lobby try to impose on us, it simply means you cannot break any laws here, since we'll end up dealing with legal hassle caused by you. Please use common sense: respect the forum, its users, and those that write great code.

GPL is a part of the legal system, so should be followed on every forum.

Guys check this out ! Not my work; just sharing...
Seems like bugs are temporarily scotch taped
I still couldn't download. The responses seems positive from other flashers. If anyone can download can you please upload it somewhere for others?
Oh...and don't forget to post your opinions ....
thread posted in the wrongsection, its not your rom ,so you cant post it in under the android development thread.
its someone else work so this tread will be closed, as you cant post any link of a rom without proper kernel sources

Buddy no offence its just that in android development, one post ones own built up roms, you don't post links of others rom.

Refer to this post here by XDA Moderator @zelendel Since there is no Kernel Source which are required by XDA Rules and GPL Law No Rom Should be Shared here and Since The Link of your Rom Directs to Others Work without their permission and absence of kernel sources you cannot link it here That is the reason Development Forum is Closed
Thread closed. Do not post links to roms that are 1. Not your work. 2. Break our rules. 3. Links like this have no place in Development.

Compile kernel ?

I wonder if anyone was able to compile or, just provide hints how to do it,
kernel from published sources https://github.com/MotorolaMobilityLLC/kernel-msm/tree/MMI-LPH23.116-18.1
I am able to compile with config
arch/arm64/configs/msm8994-perf_defconfig
but final boot.img does not boot, no matter what I do.

If I were you I would post in dev thread under original android development. They would be best to solve your issue.

Well, "Forum rules" in original android development clearly states that all questions must be posted in "Q&A" Forums

General [ROM]Nothing OS ROM Dump

Device: Nothing Phone 1
Source: https://dumps.tadiphone.dev/dumps/nothing/spacewar
Reserve 1
Initial Opinion:
The Dump has TWRP sourcecode. So phone might come with TWRP recovery. Also the Recorder app works in any Android phone. Camera too works in other phones but only Video.

The dump is generated with dumpyara, which runs twrpdtgen on the dumped original boot/recovery image; the resulting tree isn't part of the original, and isn't complete / immediately ready to use either.
@Vishal P
I've changed this thread from [Development] to [General]. As per the stickied guide at the top of each forum section, called "[Info] Guide to Nothing Device Forums (Please Read before Posting)":
[Development]
What's prefixed this way:
Publications and releases of your own development (ROMs, kernels, recoveries, etc.; for exact rules for creating such threads, please refer to Post #2 and Post #3 below)
Click to collapse
Post #3 of that thread:
Threads Prefixed by [Development]
This prefix is exclusively reserved for ROMS, Kernels, Recoveries etc. provided they are your own development.
Try to keep the development threads clean. No off-topic posting and no question prefixed with [Development].
Use the report button in the lower left corner of an offending post to let us mods know we need to take action. Don't take matters into your own hands.
Sources need to be posted for all kernels. They're also needed for all ROMs where license demands it. Please refer to Post #2 above for more on this.
You need to use tags in the thread title, like [ROM], [KERNEL], etc. throughout XDA. Please refer to Post #4 below for more on this.
Any disputes between developers should be handled by PM; always try to solve the issue amicably first via PM. No public posting in a development thread regarding these matters.
ROM issues should be discussed within their respective threads.
Thread titles should always coincide with ROMS already available for download. No advance notification of incoming ROM through thread titles/placeholder threads is allowed. A changelog for the yet unreleased ROM can be included in the OP or in another post clearly marked as expected changelog.
All threads prefixed with [Development] that are NOT about one's own development may be closed or deleted. Posters that will choose to disregard these guidelines will be infracted.
