Perhaps this is a silly question, but isn't Windows Phone 7 supposed to have an Android-style notifications bar appear at the top of the screen when new emails/texts/alerts arrive? That is what I understood from the Engadget review. However, my Focus does not alert me as to anything other than with a tone or vibrate if I am, for example, using IE, Twitter, or the phone dialer.
Also, my lock/unlock screen (what you see when you hit the power button when the phone is on standby) does not always indicate that I have a new email waiting, but when I actually unlock it and go to the home screen with the live tiles, I will see one of my accounts (typically Gmail) with an unread message or two.
mine gives me a notification bar at the top when I get a txt.. and my lock screen tells me when I have new messages.. but if I unlock and dont check messages.. the message count is still set to 0

I haven't seen the bar come up for emails, I don't think. My memory might be off. I'll go into settings and tell it to play a sound when emails come in, and see if that changes anything.
On lock screen I'm 100% sure on receiving notifications for:
1: Voice Mail
2: Text Messages
3: Email's
Not sure about missed calls without voice mail. I think I did for Xbox Live messages but not 100%. Don't have Face Book or Twitter accounts, so have no clue there.
*Edit* Notifications appear along the very bottom. I have all sound notifications active.
*Edit2* It shows a separate icon for each notification with a number in front; uses micro size versions of the symbols from the start screen. Xbox Live messages 100% shown on start screen as a number over the tile, still unsure about lock screen.

okay...so when you're in other programs, say maps...you get the blue toast notifcation when you get emails? i have never once received one. just vibration and sound
Missed called show phone, new voice mail shows phone with casset tape on it.
While in call, apps, maps, email, messaging, I get the alert tone I selected.
Xbox Live messages can take quite a while to post to the live tile on start screen, but they do post in form of a small black number top right of live tile.
I'm sorry, but i'm not familar with blue toast notifications. Please explain.

Ahhh.. OK, just didn't know what they were called. In maps, Zune, IE, and with screen lock or in calls you get the blue toast notifications for atleast calls, missed call/voice mail, text messages and emails. Not sure about Xbox Live messages, facebook, twitter stuff.
weird...i've yet to see a toast notification for anything other than text messages so far.

Hi All,
Managed to get the notification light working for when i have missed calls and text messages, however cannot get it to work with push emails received (using Seven).
I have set the notifications setting on "New Mail Message" to always flash but it still doesn't.
Any ideas?

When I receive email I hear sound and vibrating...but I dont want the device to vibrate, but there is only option for reminders which says: email notification - on/off...
So...I can only have both, sound and vibrating, or none?
have you tried to touch the left side "New e-mail message" ? Not right side "OFF/ON" switch..
How to setup mail do not internet blocke my pictures and download all the massage???
Please help me. I have been a long time nexus user and switched to note three since Verizon doesn't get along with Google. In the notification shade I would get the name of the person who the message was from and if two finger swiped I could have info in shade. Right now This phone is only showing "new message" is there something I need to activate. Thanks for your help.

Hi All,
I am trying to stop the lock screen notifications. The reason is that I am using NiLS and I want to use only NiLS for now.
The problem is that I cannot stop the missed calls and messages notification that came with the phone and so far I have both NiLS and Android (note 4) notifications on my lock screen.
I tried some options in "Notifications" Section in Messages app but with no luck. I was able to remove the text only but I still receive "New Message" notification on the lock screen.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Is there a way to hide message previews when screen is unlocked? For instance, say you're browsing the web and you receive a message... When you pull down on notification bar, you can read who sent it and what was said, as opposed to "new message" then having to click that to get into your messaging app . I know it sounds kinda redundant, but I got used to it that way on my old s8 and can't figure out how to turn off "preview messages". Maybe port the Samsung messages app over to this phone? Thanks.
You can try to turn off heads up notifications system wide using one of the numerous guides available on the net. Didn't try as I don't want to disable them.

Hmm. I still want to get the notification and I can disable the pop-up anyway. I'm looking to disable the actual "peek" method. For instance when my Gmail syncs and gives me a notification on my status bar, when I pull down it'll show me who the emails are from, instead of just saying "3 new emails", which is what I'd prefer.
