It's running inside my old Debian chroot I've migrated from my old Mytouch 3G and Cliq.
It uses a VNC server with geometry 800x480, TWM window manager, and DOSBOX with a config file disabling scancodes, scaler=none, and all audio disabled.
Runs quite well. I haven't tried anything particularly demanding yet, but Moraff's Revenge, some old SSI gold box games, and various Ultima games play just fine.
The Swype keyboard is a GODSEND for emulation on this device. the cursor key input mode is PERFECT for MS-DOS games.
That's awesome. Haven't touched linux in Android since I played around with it back on my G1. Any tutorials you'd recommend?
If any X-Com or UFO games run nicely, I will never get anything done ever again. Officially.
Can you post the source for this?
i doubt it would run and if it did, probably not very well but i saw dosbox and suddenly thought about m.u.g.e.n. it ran on dos back in the day, i remember wasting countless hour setting up mugen with various characters and such
Sorry everyone, forgot about this thread.
An update: The mouse is seriously messed up; any game that relies on mouse input is basically unusable. Not sure if there's a work around for it. It's also fairly slow, but that's not all that surprising considering this is a cellphone.
I'll try to type up a decent how-to this afternoon.
Games I've run:
Dungeon Master
Ultima Underworld
Ultima 0 - 5
Legacy of the Ancients
Just about all of the SSI gold box games
Telengard
Hi, great job, but please post the how-to...thankyou!

Yes Please! I have an old DOS calculator that's critical for my job, I'd love to be able to run it on my Vibrant and Tab. Then I could finally get rid of the old XP laptop I have to hang on to JUST for this 1 program. (Can't get it to run on my Win7 machines).
Wich keys do you use for ctrl and alt?

I just tried it.. it is awesome....
to bad it's not free any more
This program will be much easier to use, if the PDA's screen is large..
using this program on a small screen like the magician's will be useless IMHO
Should be fairly easy to re write. Will try to investigate later!

PPC Tablet
You might want to try this, it's a commercial product, and as such it serves the purpose well.
http://www.aacompserv.com/AACompweb/PPCTablet/WhatIsIt.aspx
It has several predifined layout :a drawing tablet, touchpad, numeric pad, presentation controller, windows media controller. You can even create your own layout or modify existing one.

Yep, you should give it a try if you're bored one day or another. The trial works OK... I like the idea of using the XDA as a universal remote for the laptopo via the design mode but as a pure Graphical tablet the thing sucks. And aside from this I have trouble getting decent connections. Direct connections over ActiveSync (USB or Bluetooth) for some reason are the most dodgy. And if they work they are hopelessly sluggigh - i.e. a few pixels movement a second. If you get to work on this, lemme know. I might have the odd idea for a feature.
Found this on the net; cool application but eats a lot of memory. Anyways nice to show off... Enjoy!

It is the memory requirements for this application that has forced the company to discontinue any new versions/updates and provide the last one for free without any support.
They stated "at this point in time WM devices can't handle the next level we want to take our software. So instead of producing an application that does not meet our standards we have decided to pull it from the market"
Perhaps more of an excuse for the software developers not being able to work within the constraints of current PDA limits- who knows.
Right you are... eats up about 6mb of memory. But still I enjoy showing it off to my buddies. I'm not sure if this can be installed and run from a storage card. Will do tomorrow.
Hey, if you want your PDA to look like Windows, use Windows

Have you tried to create a webpage from the screen of the PDA??
I would actually make use of your TSC program had I a suitable device- unfortunately still stuck with JAM- no point of term. services via bluetooth!
Wouldn't mind having one of those up and coming mini-tablet style devices that are due to run the full blown version of XP though.
I'd like to have an OQO or something Unfortunately even the Universal's screen becomes too much work on the eyes after a while. Such a dilema: want a big (VGA) screen, want a small phone. Not gonna happen.
I don't think I'd like an OQO day to day, but nice in bed. But yes, VJFullscreenTSC could be used to write webpages from the Uni.
As I understand it, Experience is a flash app isn't it?

hi all
Recently got an M700 and am loving it. Since discovering this place I've been amazed at what customisations you can do, and with flashing to WM6 using AX3L's fantastic ROM, getting TomTom6 working, and a few choice other apps to allow FTP etc., i've now got a device that does pretty much everything I could ask of it anywhere! (Probably matter of time till I brick it though...).
What I am missing though, is a decent VNC client (although I've used the RDP client semi-successfully).
I've searched for 'VNC' but no joy - surely that can't be the case when there's so much other stuff available? or is the search function not liking the term...?
thanks for a great forum & resource
Did you see the posts re zoomVNC on PocketPC Thoughts? Looks nice!

i have now
thanks - looks excellent
i guess there's others out there i couldn't search for too!
For me the best is PTPocketOffice.
It was recommended by Menneisyys:
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=1572&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
It consumes a lot less data than the others VNC.
It's fast.
It has fullscreen.
It can be used one handed.
The server side can resample the pictures to make it smaller (less data and better image than if it was done by client side).
The only minor thing I'd like to see improved is their proprietary softkeyboard. why not using the system keyboard? I don't want to use a new keyboard with each of my apps...
that's a great article
i hadn't thought to even try logmein until reading it there, i'd assumed that with their remote screens always being slightly fuzzy and smaller it mightn't be great - wow, was i wrong!
just tried logging onto a client's SBS server and the screen scaling and rotation together make it nearly as useable as a standard desktop! the screen scrolling at the side of the screen is a great interface! there'll be occasions where i need VNC, but for know i think I've got a favoured solution
Hi! just wondered if anybody here has tried running MI3 on the Diamond? Cant get it to work. The game starts, but after a short while it quits because of a "memory allocation error" even though there should be plenty of ram to run the game (the Diamond packs much more juice than the computer i had back in the days when MI3 was new) The game also runs flavlesly on the Device emulator even when i set the memory to a fraction of what the Diamond has If anyone has got it to work please help, this is the best game ever

works fine here...
how long can you play until you get the error?
It varies. Sometimes it quits just after the first cutscene, and sometimes when i try to enter the first town (Puerto Polto?), just after Elaine turns into a gold statue. Always wih the same error. What ROM are you using? I currently have the rom the phone was shipped with.
Used to work fine on my Trinity (with 128Mb RAM), now fails on Touch HD (with 256Mb RAM), so it shouldn't be a RAM problem, unless...
Unless, ScummVM memory requirements grow exponentially depending on screen resolution. One thing to try is to use an older version of ScummVM.
It seems like ScummVM is confused by the amount of ram in modern phones. They have adressed the problem on the scumvm forum to, but its little activity on that forum It could maybe be a problem with memory leaks?
Use Scummvm 0.8.2
Thx Il give it a try.
The old GUI looks horrible though
It actually works! have almost played through the first island with no errors 0.8.2 is a littlebit more buggy than 0.12.0 though, exept the memory error off course Now i have both versions on my phone. 0.8.2 for playing MI3 and The Dig, and 0.12.0 to play everything else
I attached the 0.8.2 binary if anyone else wants to give it a try. You will need additional files to play. Just download the latest version from www.scummvm.org, and replace the binary

problem with the scummv
hi guys! i have an htc hd and i am trying to play scummv. the latest version (0,12). i put it in full screen but i can not control the cursor! i click in my screen and the cursor appear a little further at the left. it i very annoying because i cannot play any game. Anyone does have the same problem?any solution?
The Secret of MI and LeChucks revenge were briliant. Is the third one with the same or newer (supposedly better) looking graphics?
I found this while faffing around finding tools for themes...

download droid explorer from http://de.codeplex.com/ it gives full root access to your streak like using root explorer. Seems to only be for windows 32 & 64bit but they may have other versions. It also has options to reboot, flash recovery, backup, install (with icons etc..), desktop sms, logcat console, screencast (live screenshot view, im watching myself type on streak from desktop! Which has options for call, home, infact everything.... it fully emulates my streak allowing full control via desktop..very cool), has a colour coded console shell, package signer, sqlite explorer.... list is enless and i havent even looked through tools yet! Has anyone else tried using it?
I saw this on the other post and downloaded it. It rocks. The screencast isn't remarkably fast, but it is the best around.
Thanks
You do have to be rooted, but that isn't a big deal.
Nice find tina thanks will have a play with this
Yeah you need to be rooted but most of the functions are only useful for rooted phones so its fair enough, i enitially posted it in response to a thread where someone needed to flash without fastboot, he was struggling so when I stumbled on this I thought it was a perfect solution... then I realised how cool it is and started a thread to share with everyone
hmmm cud prove useful....nice..
Nice find tina!!!
Though I'd wish the guys that made the screencast app would continue working on it as I've been using the app for a while now and I've posted a few comments/issues about how the screen appears upside down and that all they need to do is allow the user to continue rotating the image around as is just visually upside down and not physically (as in the actual touch area). So for example even though the notification bar appears along the bottom of the screen, you still need to click and drag down from the top, so if the devs just allowed the user to cycle through all 4 orientations then this would be awesome. As well as making the ' and left key work.
As for the rest of the program, I love that I don't have to mount/unmount the SD card no more
Been using that with my hd2 for a while now. You can even sideload apps with it. I had to learn that when messing with my daughters captivate
