Reverse permaroot for warranty? - G2 and Desire Z General

I am guessing that the G2 will not be accepted for warranty if it's got the ENG HBOOT and S-OFF. Is there a way to revert it to the stock bootloader and S-ON?
I would guess that perhaps the PC10IMG method would restore HBOOT to stock, but would it remain S-OFF?

I would assume you'd just be able to flash the original rom and restore a stock hboot. Now, this isn't something I can say 100% because I haven't (and will not) tried it.

I can confirm that by following this thread you will be back to stock and S-ON.
Don't ask me why I just tested that but you're welcome

Awesome! I'm waiting for a replacement to arrive, and I'm too giddy about the root to wait.

Brilliant, thanks.
My sister-in-law will be getting a Bell Desire Z soon. I realize that the permaroot guide will probably use variations on the same files and they're not interchangeable, but I figure if you guys can restore S-ON then so can she.

I just did this and it worked perfectly! Just be sure you follow the instructions thoroughly! Using copy & paste in ADB will make life much easier for you.

[Q] Kernel Issues and HBOOT

Hey all. I've been unable to flash any kernels except for the stock one and Baconbits. All others but my phone in a perpetual bootloop. I'm using compatible kernels, but it seems any that write a boot.img makes this happen (though I may be wrong on that). Does this have anything to do with the fact I have HBOOT Version .82? I've noticed in most people's screenshots that after they did S-Off, they have .76. Could this be the issue and if so, ho can I downgrade it? Thanks!
Anyone? I've looked around but haven't heard anything with this specific problem.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
0.76 is the engineering hboot for the G2, with S-OFF. I recommend though that you look at the new "gfree" method of getting S-OFF, which also gives you SIM unlock, SuperCID etc. It's much safer than the eng hboot, though the eng hboot does have some extra functionality.
I don't need the SIM unlock, so I didn't think the gfree method was needed. With that though, I'm on HBOOT .82, and have S-OFF. How can I get it to .76 and S-OFF?
You've got a G2, not a DZ, right ? I'm not sure how you can have the .82 HBOOT and have S-OFF unless you've run gfree ? I might be missing something though.
The gfree method is a much safer way of getting S-OFF, even if you don't need to SIM unlock.

Yes I have a G2, and I used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833965 to get S-OFF. Am I supposed to have .82? The reason I doubted myself in the first place is that all the screenshots I've seen people have .76 and S-OFF.

I can only assume there's another engineering hboot version, at 0.82 with S-OFF for the G2 ? Sorry, having a DZ myself I'm not so familiar with the exact HBOOT levels on the G2 (since that's one difference from the DZ), but I'm sure someone else can help you with that shortly.
I recommend using gfree though, because with a proper radio S-OFF (not a kind of "fake" S-OFF via HBOOT) it will be a lot easier to recover your phone if somehow you semi-brick it.

If you use the gfree program its all automated for you. However you CAN do it manually by following the directions in the wiki. You would really need to understand what you are doing before you try to skip steps to only turn s off. Is there some reason you really dont want sim unlocked?

So did you install the engineering hboot to get S-OFF ? Because if not, I highly recommend gfree. It's safe and it'll put your phone into a better state if anything bad does happen to it in the future (e.g. semi-brick), even if you don't want the SIM unlock. It gives you a proper radio S-OFF, the engineering hboot is kind of a fake S-OFF (because it reports S-OFF even though the radio is actually still S-ON).

Flash a 1.32 RUU, then root and do s-off. Simple as that.
As Hawk said. You won't be able to actually preserve it, but have to root it again, as you will lose root by flashing stock.

what do you mean by "back to stock", if you wanna preserve "everything" it's not really stock!
but, i guess you could restore your nandroid backup... or do what guys above said so!
I assume he wants stock RUU ROM, no custom ROM or kernel, .... but with root intact.
He will lose the root by flashing stock RUU.
So just root again and not flash any custom kernels or custom ROM.
I don't know why, up to him, but he just asked the question, and we provided the answer.

EDIT: so i dont need to worry about upgrading the radio? or downgrading?
Follow part of this downgrade thread. You need to DL the PD98IMG.zip file.
As you already have root, skip the adb temp root part, and follow this copied directly from the above guide;
•Put PD98IMG.zip to your SD card. Do not put the file into a folder...... Do not extract
•Reboot while holding volume down, it will go to the bootloader
•Follow the instructions (start the update)
•Done. You can now proceed with old S-OFF methods, and remove the PD98IMG.zip from your SD. I recommend Radio S-OFF for new users.
Then,
Follow this guide for temp/permroot with visionary and S-off using
Easy Radio Tool DL Link at end of 2nd post
Then,
Follow this guide for ENG S-off using the
Easy S-off tool DL link at bottom of page
Hope this helps, just make sure you read every in full at least twice.

umm not sure if you understand where i am, im on a custom rom already mate, im going back to stock, i dont need to downgrade
Well when you follow Upintheair's instructions, you get a stock ROM, and it is not really a downgrade because you do not have to use the command line commands. You do not have to run the radio s-off tool, though. Just run ENG S-OFF tool.
The other way is to flash Raidroid Stockify series ROM, it is a rooted stock ROM that you can flash in clockworkmod.

Branded t-mobile desire hd

Helllo,
I have a desire hd on software version 1.84.110.3 on 2.2.1 branded on t-mobile. I basically want to debrand the phone and install the stock unbranded software to get rid of the t-mobile apps and flash screen, and get software updates quicker. If possible I would like to keep my phone in a stable state so if anything did happen to the phone in the future I can send it back for repair. Is this possible if so how would i go about it? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick reply, i have had a look at the guide but i dont see anything about a goldcard. I was understood it as if you have a branded phone you need to create a goldcard???? Please correct me if i am wrong
I think once you've SuperCID'd your phone you don't need a goldcard, as that just messed about with something to do with CIDs.

It's easy

I got my T-Mobile HD Desire yesterday...and today I have LeeDroid Gingerbread running on it. I used the gold card method found here: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-make-gold-card-for-htc-desire-hd/
It was simple. Just follow the steps exactly and you'll have no problems. I followed the links in that website to complete the process. My phone is rooted, radio s-off and eng s-off. There seemed to be so many different ways of doing it on this forum that I eventually gave up. That link, above, is on one of the "how to's" in here and references this site - I just found it clear, concise and easy to follow because it's aimed at noobs rather than tech-wizards. Good luck!
So i need to create a gold card and then perm root it with s-off? And i am fine doing all this with my software version?

You have no option but to downgrade. You can't root the phone until you've done that, and you can't stick a custom ROM on unless the phone is rooted.
Like I said, there seemed to be so much conflicting information on here that I went elsewhere. That link, and the ones that follow, are well written in plain English.
These are the steps I followed:
1 - Make goldcard: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-make-gold-card-for-htc-desire-hd/
2 - Permroot the phone: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-permanently-root-htc-desire-hd-complete-guide/
3 - Radio S-Off and Eng S-Off: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-gain-s-off-radio-and-engineering-on-htc-desire-hd/
4 - Flashed Optional FULL WIPE to EXT4 patch, then flashed radio 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2, and then flashed the ROM all from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056727
I followed Lee's instructions to the letter and had no problems.
Dips44,
I am thinking of doing the same. I'd be interested to hear about your experience and any recommendations.
Cheers,

I dont think i will be doing it just yet as there is just to many guides out there and confusion. I mean just on this thread somesay go for it others say downgrade, need a goldcard, goldcard not needed. Let me know if you do try
Just to clarify,
If your T-Mobile branded you WILL need a goldcard. If your software version is greater than 1.3x.xxx.x you WILL need to downgrade to root. The goldcard is needed to downgrade.
Where else are you confused? I am more than happy to help.
Ok so let me get this straight I will need to follow the follow steps
I will need to create a goldcard following this guide
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/...htc-desire-hd/
I then need to downgrade...
How do I do that?
Once I have downgraded I need to perm root following this guide
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/...omplete-guide/
I then need to s-off using this guide
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/...htc-desire-hd/
Do I need e-off? What is this? Also how do I then install an official unbranded gingerbread rom?
Thanks
Where to start. Follow this guide.
How to downgrade to 1.32.405.6 WWE
You want to follow Section's 1 & 2a
Also i have read about ruu...can i just flash my phone with a ruu?
Once you have followed that guide, simply follow this one.
One click ENG S-OFF
Then this one,
One click Radio S-OFF tool
Simply put this is the process you need to follow.
1). Create Goldcard
2). Downgrade to 1.32
3). Root using Visionary+
4). Remove device security & SIM unlock
5). Enjoy

Download ROM Manager from the Market, and flash ClockworkMod Recovery from there. Any 3.x.x.x recovery is sufficient.
Now donwload this ROM - seraphic_gb_rooted_0-1.zip
From this thread - HERE - 1st Post
This ROM is the exact HTC Gingerbread update but with root access added. Nothing else and nothing taken away.

[Q] Flashing non T-Mobile roms on MyTouch 4G

Greetings,
I have purchased a MyTouch 4G from The States that was on T-Mobile and I have intentions on using it here (Canada) with Mobilicity, which is also on HSPA 900/1700/2100. I intend to flash either a stock Panache rom (which is the Canadian version without the T-Mobile stuff), RoyalPanache or I might go with RoyalGinger or something of that nature. I came across this in the Ultimate Rooting Guide:
[...]It will set up Super CID on your device allowing you to flash any carriers rom (not just tmobile). Giving you more freedom with your choice of software. The software still needs to be device specific to the glacier for compatability reasons though. Like vodafone glacier roms etc.

in this Topic
I just wanted to check that I understood correctly. Am I correct in my understanding that I would need to do ultimate root in order to set Super CID so I can flash any of the (non T-mobile) roms I mentioned? Or to put it another way; is the ultimate root my only option? I only ask because I'm quite nervous about rooting and guides such as this seemed to be more friendly...
Thank you!
I am trying to find any information on flashing the Panache Canadian ROM to US HTC Glacier that has no recovery and is not rooted. I can't find an RUU.exe anywhere. I don't understand why nobody has responded to all the Mytouch 4G questions! ALiens abducted them. I've been looking for hours.
You need a goldcard to attempt it, and you can as well just try instead of waiting for answers - in the worst case, it'll fail and won't flash.

Way to speak for thousands of people. And what a nice response as well...douche.
If you already have S-OFF you can flash Panache-based custom ROMs just fine.
If you want to flash the completely stock Panache RUU or PD15IMG.zip, and you have S-OFF, then you may need SuperCID or a gold card.
The RUU files are here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216076
If you flash a RUU after rooting by root.sh, you'll revert to S-ON in the bootloader. This is not great with a Gingerbread RUU, because then you will have to go through a more complicated downgrade procedure if you ever want to re-root.
If you use the gfree "ultimate root" S-OFF method, then you will get to keep your S-OFF after flashing any RUU. If you have a ROM without root but you're still S-OFF, then you can use one of the files here to install ClockwordMod recovery and get a simpler route back to root:

Just like he said the best way is to downgrade through that method. And perm root either by the advanced way cyanogen wrote up. Or more user friendly ones that just require terminal emulator and not adb. u can find any of them through basic searches or through the development section.

1-click root like Z4root isn't available for any phone with Gingerbread 2.3.4 and up.
Judging by some posts on various boards, it won't ever be available, since developers aren't working on any such solution.
You can read some entertaining read:
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...otloaders-rooting-manufacturers-carriers.html
And remember some things:
1) Since that time, Samsung and HTC has officially declared they aren't going to lock their bootloaders. Actually, Samsung kept it open all the way, and HTC declared they're going to unlock them starting this summer.
2) There was no easy root app for Gingerbread 2.3.4 ever made, even though an exploit exists that allows temp-rooting. Which means - there are no devs interested in making rooting easier than it currently is, or they're prevented from making rooting easier.
About devs not willing to make it stupid easy to root anymore - you might read Cyanogen's post somewhere, also from several months ago.

To restate what Jack_R1 said. There is no root for gingerbread on this phone. It's simple enough to revert back to 2.2.1 and root once you are there.
[in my words]
If you afraid of ADB and the SKD, and you are to lazy to do some research, you shouldn't be rooting your phone anyway.

now i took the time to put all of the basic information that you'll need in the newcomers thread. Link in my signature. Take your time read though that and you can root your phone. Regardless of the version you are using. And there is a link, with video, for you setting up your ADB.

Wait how do I flash a ROM from hboot? And afterwards, how do I get out of hboot? Sorry, I just want to be extremely sure I don't brick my phone or f**k it up in any possible way.

well, once you have the PD151IMG.zip in the ROOT (not in any folders) of your sdcard, the bootloader/hboot should recognize it, and will ask you if you want to update. hit yes, and the rest will be done for you. DO NOT PULL THE BATTERY DURING THE UPDATE PROCESS, THIS WILL BRICK THE DEVICE. after that just reboot (first reboot should take longer than usual, it's normal)
if for some reason the bootloader/hboot isn't seeing your PD151IMG.zip, then redownload the zip again.
It did the no image thing... retry? My stats are:

EDIT: I connected it to my computer, and the zip file is named PD15IMG and a lot of other things. Do I delete all of that and rename it PD15IMG.zip?
