The wait for Android 2.3 could be over quite soon.
"Prepare your Nexus One (developer version) for Android over-the-air update 2.3 (Gingerbread) for the next few days," according to a translation of a tweet in Spanish sent yesterday by Alvaro Fuentes Vasquez.
It can't be immediately confirmed that Vasquez or his prediction is for real. However, Vasquez states on his LinkedIn page that he's been a member of the "leadership team and usability" for the Open Handset Alliance for the past two years. His blog seems to back up his credentials as a developer. And no one has cried foul yet on the original blog post regarding Vasquez's tweet or in an Android forum.
Neither Vasquez nor Google immediately responded to request for comment.
The comments made by Vasquez follow recent rumors suggesting Android 2.3 would be released on November 11. Those rumors say the version known as Gingerbread will feature an improved design, rather than deliver a slew of new features for the mobile OS. However, Gingerbread is expected to deliver WebM support and better copy-and-paste.
Until we see Gingerbread launch or hear from Google, though, consider this a rumor.

And the wildfire doesn't even (officially) have 2.2 froyo yet.

Nope, it's technically a 'rumour' at the moment but it just shows HTC has their priorities elsewhere.

My uneducated guess is that we'll see froyo on the legend by mid july at the latest.
Also not sure if anyone thought of this, but bell (and indirectly virgin mobile canada) are not stupid companies. They are introducing a new android phone and thus throwing massive amounts of ad $ and marketing into it, from both bell/virgin AND htc itself. Remember this is virgins FIRST android set and bells 4th or 5th, they would most likely have talked to htc to make sure the device is upgradeable to the newest android. They just started selling it, they aren't going to allow it to be out dated within the month its released! If the did it would be a waste on advertising and a waste of introducing a new phone.
That's just my 2 cents, but it seems very logical to me, how about you?

Adobe didn't state HTC Legend on their supported devices list...could this mean no 2.2 for Legend? or Is HTC dumbing down 2.2 for Legend as they did with 2.1?
If 2.2 is dumbed down for Legend, it better have WiFi hotspot as a stock 2.2 rom would have, or I am going to be one pissed off long legged puerto rican!

Nexus One will be getting Gingerbread over the next few days - What about DHD?
I know it typically takes HTC a good few month to adapt new version of andriod, but for a sparkling new flagship device to have an obsolete OS before its publicly available in large quantity, its a bit silly.
It should be, and there should be no reason why it shouldn't
HTC is usually the one that updates most of their phones early compared to Sony Ericsson or Samsung
At a wild guess it will be Q1 next year.
At any rate there is nothing wrong with the DHD shipping os. If gingerbread will bring some new features then all good but since I don't have those features now I don't miss them
I have not noticed any bugs, instability, or lag in the DHD either.
I guess what I'm saying is that I'm happy to wait. After using sense ui I find AOSP android to be a little too bland for my tastes, so I certainly won't be switching back to my Nexus One as my daily phone just because of Gingerbread.
Just read in a couple of places that Htc people have confirmed that the Desire HD is going to be updated with gingerbread. Just mailed them asking for an exact date though i think they will provide me with a very vague answer.....just hoping the update comes sooner than i think it is going to...

Good news coming from Google for Ice Cream Sandwich.
Android Ice cream sandwich will be Google’s attempt of one OS to rule them all – it should combine the best of Honeycomb and Gingerbread and it should be able to run on everything – from smartphones through tablets to Google TV.
New Android Update policy
Google understands that updates are an important part of Android and because of that they announced the forming of a founding team, which will adopt guidelines for how quickly devices are updated after an Android update and also for how long they will continue to be updated.
The partners in question are Verizon, HTC, Sprint, LG, T-Mobile, Vodafone, Motorola, AT&T, Sony Ericsson and Samsung. Google invites every manufacturer and carrier to join this team. So, as a result, new devices from all the members of this alliance will receive the latest Android updates for 18 months after the device has been released, if the hardware allows it.
Htc Desire HD was released October 2010 it means that we will get the update

HTC Desire Gingerbread update 'in testing' (from Androidcentral.com)
As promised, HTC has offered Desire owners some news on the status of the phone's Android 2.3 Gingerbread update, saying they've begun testing on it this week. In a post on its official Facebook page, the manufacturer said --

There's still no word on which apps have been cut to allow HTC to cram Gingerbread and Sense onto the Desire's 512MB of internal storage, nor any official comment on reports that Aussie carrier Telstra plans to ditch Sense entirely to get Gingerbread on its Desire handsets. For its part, Telstra is now echoing today's statement from HTC, saying the software is "in testing", and listing an August release window.
hopefully the testing will be done soon and the kernels on htc's website..i'm so excited and im not even a DEV!

Well, this isn't very much Wildfire related as official support from CyanogenMod ended at Gingerbread, and this will be, by the looks of it, just for tablets and notebooks.
Official support will return with ics the unofficial port of cm 9 is very stable already

That's a strong statement to say about the unofficial port of cm9 as not all features work yet. eg camera etc.. I wouldn't class it stable yet! but with people working at it, it may in time.
Oh I don't think it will become official, sorry to say, time to move on folks
... But if it does, congrats.
I do miss my wildfire though. But i got my SGS on a cheap contract $30 a month so couldn't pass it up.

But then the camera doesn't work on many ICS roms.
Even if we don't get official support we got ErwinP

It was smooth enough when i OC'ed to 652Mhz.
