Hello all my first post here
I wanted to buy HTC TOUCH HD to replace my N95 8GB since i like WM phones but i have some questions before doing this:
1_How is the overall build quality of this phone ?
2_How is the audio quality in both headset and loudspeaker ? for example compared to devices like my N95 ?
3_How is the screen sensitivity?
4_Is it upgradeable to windows mobile 6.5?
i've many reviews but i wanted to ask the people who own this phone
Thanks
build quality is outstandind
touchscreen is wonderful, can even be tuned with a 3rd party program (hdtweak).
I have myself been running a custom made wm6.5 for about 3-4 months already, but it's everyone's choice if you want to use custom made or stick to stock.
can't really say or know if htc is going to release a stock 6.5 for touch hd or not.... those who know are not allowed to say - those who don't know have grown bored to continually to ask that
abe
thanks and how is the sound quality ?
Amiri,
The phone's build quality is sturdy. The only point is that it creeks once in a while when it is at a certain angle in the central part of the back cover due to the empty hollow space between the back cover and the battery. Slipping a piece of folded paper will be able to fix this issue easily if it bothers you that much.
The screen sensitivity is fine. However, due to the nature of resistive screens, the corner of the screens are not as sensitive as the center portion of the screens. In reality, we're talking about a 20 ~ 30 % difference in pressure required. Will you notice this? Yes. Will it bug you? Unlikely.
And no, the TouchHD will not be getting the -official- 6.5 upgrade. However, I'm sure rom cookers will get theirs in. If you want the stock upgrades, go with TouchPro2 or TouchDiamond.
Cheers.
thanks well i like TOUCH HD more than Pro2/Diamond2 because of bigger screen also i like its design more,
but u guys didn't talk about the audio quality, how is it ?

TC,
I'm sorry but I don't know much about the headjack quality as I don't use it much. However, the speaker is pretty hollow and low on the bass. Nothing to yell about. My w800i has a much better speaker.
I'm sure the headjack output will be good if you used quality earphones.
Cheers.
the sound quality through the headphone jack is outstanding !
i have the nokia N95 as well and i can tell you that it is much better and much louder (the n95 was not that loud, at least compared to the HD).
i don't know about the speaker quality though. it's good for calls but no clue about music...
by the way, the stock earphones are good enough (at least for me, but i'm not a music whore)

hey mate, congratulations on making your mind for the move!
I too had changed from nokia n95, first time going for a windows mobile, and here are my thoughts..
about the build, it seems solid, compact and no squeezes what so ever.
touch screen sensitivity is alright i guess, i find it to be sluggish a bit when trying to browse through programs, its a bit glitchy. But then again, this is my first windows mobile, so am not sure how it performs compared to other similar devices.
About sound quality, having had a nokia n95, it is utterly disappointing, you have to say bye to the beautiful stereo sound of the n95. when you set a ringtone and receive a call, it sounds like an old radio ( the one with one speaker and a big knob to tune). headphone quality isnt a whole lot better either, definitely inferior to n95. You will have to sacrifice sound quality for functionality...and i must say, its worth it so far i am loving this phone, apart from the continuous paranoia of scratching the screen, and the constant wiping of fingerprints of the screen, this phone is truly brilliant!
One more thing...you will be a little disappointed with battery life, its 2-3 days max if you use it ONLY as a phone lol.
Good luck

Just to add to alien79's comments:
One thing the HD (and other windows mobile devices) has over the N95 is the ability to add additional software, tweaks, new OS, etc etc. If you search and read threads in this forum along with the wiki you'll notice that you can completely flash a new rom with tweaks for speed, smoothness and stability as well as fixes for sound quality, stuttering etc. All you need to do is search, read, ask questions and you'll find that almost everything you seek is awaiting you!!
Yes the most reason that i'm getting a winmo phone is because of its customizations but i really need a phone that has a good audio quality,i'm getting mixed results here one say its better than N95 the other guy says its worse my only concern is the phoens audio quality now,and i am getting mixed answers

You remind me when i decided to buy this phone and had sleepless nights thinking if it was a right decision , dont worry though, its a forum, getting different responses is anticipated, as people have different opinions, and different music taste. Ofcourse having a good headphones is going to improve the sound quality, and as Fallen star mentioned (not that i have tried yet, as am still a noob) maybe different roms and tweaks can improve sound quality. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about the phone`s speaker...you will have live with it, and having such a great phone in my opinion, makes it easy to ignore this minor slip....
lay back, relax and think microsoft
So loudspeaker is bad? strange because gsmarena.com gave "Excellent" to TOUCH HD's loud speaker:

that is a decible scale, solely to measure the "loundness" of the sound, nothing to do with quality. Bear in mind that an airoplane as around 120 db sound scale, that aint pretty sound eh
So if the phones audio quality isn't good i guess i have to wait for a better model from HTC
Hello.
Ive just ordered a HD2.
But i would like to know what the sound quality is like when using the loudspeaker in the phone.
I currently got a hd1.. and that phone sounds... not too good.
Anyone could maby make a video of it or something?
THanks
The loudspeaker is unusable unless you're in a loud environment, it is like a megaphone even on the lowest volume setting.
Hi Hargibi,
The loudspeaker on my phone is loud and the quality and sound outputs are acceptable.
Does exactly what it says on the tin ie LOUD.......SPEAKER for environments where you need to use it.
Obviously in circumstances where you don't need the loudspeaker you would switch it off?

I have always used my speakerphone function on previous handsets to allay fears over radiation at the ear etc....I would hold the phone in my hand at breast height and conduct my calls like that, not whilst out and about of course. The HD2 has unfeasibly loud volume though (even at the lowest setting) and I just can't use it in a quiet environment - precisely the environment I would have used the feature previously. Stop defending it mate when it's obviously a problem. No other phone has anywhere approaching this volume, so are they all 'broken' and the HD2 is perfect?
Sunking,
Not defending it mate, just telling it as it is, from my perspective

Other than for using sat nav in the noisiest open-top Landrover, when would you ever need a LOUD speakerphone function though? I don't have a problem with the speakerphone being able to go loud, turn it up, that's fine! I just wish the volume control went (much) lower. I find the settings bizarre.
I use mine in large conference rooms where there's a load of us listening in. I'm afraid I don't have an open top Landrover.
As I said to you in another thread somewhere on here, you and this phone don't get on, which is a shame. However one size does not fit all so your decision to sell and move on is a good one, I think.
Don't want to take this thread off topic as its not fair on the OP, but what do you intend to buy now?
To the OP, there is a poll on here somewhere that gives an indication of how many people think the loudspeaker is good versus bad. Try and find it if you can, it makes interesting reading....

Compared to N95 8GB and HD how is it? I just ordered mine from Amazon, was confused between HD2 and N900

What do you want to know, how loud does the speakerphone go, how good is it with music, does it crackle and distort etc? I'll tell you now though, the N95 has wayyyy better speakers than the HD2. What the HD2 specialises in is LOUDNESS.

So basically it's amazingly loud but the sound gets distorted ?
I wanna know specifically about playing music on the loudspeaker
Hi there, I dont know if this will be no news to most people out there, but ppl, I just realised if you get the iphone ear phones with the mic, You can use it on the Hero for the following
- Receive Calls
- As Expected Listen to Music
- But You can actually squeeze the mic once to pause the song,
- Squeeze it 2 quick times and it will change the track
If you know of any other ways to use the earphone pls drop me a line but right now Illd go back to enjoying this two lil piece of hardware I have that make my life far much better.

As much as I hate apple, thanks for this! I'll be putting this tip to good use
I wonder what other brands are similarly compatible
I've been using my old iPhone earphones since I switched to the Pre last summer
Love them... great quality on the audio, too.
I think the factory iPod/iPhone head phones are garbage. The sound quality is horrible. I guess thats why they can afford to give them away at the moron bar.
My guess is though, if you have a set of good sony's that are iPhone compatible they would be Hero compatible as well.
actually if you double click it makes a call

Is this while playing a song, cos the whole discovery happened in less than 40 mins ago, so i didnt get to dig into how guarranteed it works.
Well I run a ic3rom 2.1 Rom(That just got release last night and is super sweet.)and mine is the Sprint Version so idk if you are on the same boat.
Maybe I'm just a music snob, but does anyone else think the Hero sounds like crap? If you don't you probably have never tried to listen to it over amplified speakers (like in the aux jack in a car). Total crappola Damn shame too, there was great potential for awesomeness.
Yeah I noticed that it doesn't sound all that great as well. espically with car speakers

I hook mine to the deck over USB. Deck handles all the decoding. Phone is just a hard drive to it.
Sounds awesome all the time.
This is great. i own the apple headphones w/ mic. Who knew?
What!?
I sold my iPhone 3Gs to get the money to buy this phone, and thought "I'll just sell the headphones because that button is useless."
Dammit...
yeah my hero sounds like sh*t in the car.
i have a pair of samsung earphones that work as playback and mic during calls, the mute button even works.
is it wierd my g1 soubded better over my car speakers, and that i had to get the usb to headphone jack adapter. ha!
I know the ones that come with the pre and the moment work as well. And yes the Hero seems to be eq'd very strange. Way to much mids and bass in the car makes things a tad muddy.

@everyonelse..thats true, sadly the quality does tend to deteriorate once you connect it to heavier sound systems,

make sure you do not have the volume on the hero all the way up try turning it way down and adjusting mainly through the car stereo this should help and sound fine......
hope it helps
My wife connects hers through a cassette adapter to the car stereo and sound is great!
I have a 1000 watt amp and I'm blasting my hero as I ride. Sounds great to me.
Hero sounds great over blue tooth

are you streaming music to a HU with a DAC, or playing on some BT headphones? Seems like if you stick to the smaller speakers it sounds acceptable. That may explain the weird EQ settings, trying to overcome the poor quality earbuds most people like to use.
Hi!
I just got my HTC Desire HD and I have moved from Galaxy S and one of the thing I really like is the music controller on headphones.
But I don't seem to like the stock headphones, since I have my own ones that haves this super-bass feature, then I would like to use my old ones.
Is there a headphone jack for HTC Desire HD that comes with this music controller?
I could cut off the stock headphones and do a bit soldering, but not just yet...
I have ordered from ebay a A2DP bluetooth headphone jack, but I think the battery drain is too big.
Also is there a way to disable the call function on this controller? It's kinda annoys me, because if you press really fast the "Play" button then I start calling the last person I have called.
I bought these after days of reading reviews. User reviews are very positive, so is my experience.
It just has a pick up/ hang up option or pauze/play. That will do for me.
http://www.nuforce.com/hp/products/ne7m/index.php
Looks really good, but I'm looking for this thing:
http://helmetaudio.com/khxc/media/ccp0/prodxl/CPA10-500x500.jpg
just with the music controller also.
I do have one that comes from iPhone, but it is really low quality - reduces bass.
And it is bit hard for me to control music with just one button.
i use a sony ericsson bluetooth headphone jack, with my own headphones and battery drain is nothing really only problem is the htc music player wont let you use the dolby or srs

Hi fellow dutchman, can I ask where you orderd them and at what price I see the price is MSRP $49 but can only find them at much higher prices here in holland
I'm using the Phillips SHH3580, it's pretty simple with just an answer button, but the ear phone is pretty nice, price is good as well.

Hy fellow dutchmen...
I ordered them for €45,- at Hifi to go in Maarsen. But they jacked up the price. Maybe look for the new version of this headset, the NE-700M. A bit more expensive, but according to the reviews better as well.

thx mate, will check this out
@ regdude:
If you go to Bluetooth settings, and select on the screen the device you need to setup (press for 2 seconds), choose options on the new popup window, and un-check the "telephone" option, you will not have that problem again!
I actually do the opposite with my SE BT headset!
Hi All
I just picked up a pay as you go LG Quantum for 80$ new, on some sale @ WalMart....my other device is an HTC Surround.
I was wondering does LG have any type of decent sound enhancer for this phone, because maybe I have been spoiled by the HTC Surround....but wow the sound is just terrible on this thing even with good headphones.
Other then that the device is great and I love that I can really unlock this thing even with mango installed and not just do the chevron thing. But wow the sound is terrible any suggestions would be great thanks.
Sorry I am new to the Quantum myself, so I can't help you. I mainly listen to podcast on my phone so sound is not too important, but I am interested in knowing how you resolve this issue. Please post the app or solution when you have it, thanks.

I've had a Quantum for about a year now, and the sound thru the headphones is about the same as all the other phones I've used. Maybe your experience is different. It's kind of funny, I got a Surround when they first came out, and I didn't find the sound from the 'extra speakers' that much better. C'est la vie.
Anyway, I'm not aware of any 'Sound enhancer' software for the Quantum -- at least not from LG.

Oh I agree the speaker thing was a gimick but the sound through the headphone jack was much better with the SRS Enhancement enable under sound enhancer on the surround, there is literally no comparison. I notice it the most when I connect the LG to my car stereo
But whatever, I guess I will live it small price to pay to have a permanently unlocked phone. I think I will just use the surround as a media device in the car until some clever person finds a way to unlock it with mango without having to jump through a million hoops lol.
Thanks guys
