hotmail and sync deleted mail - Desire HD General

Hi all,
Has anyone managed to get their hotmail to sync so that when you delete mail on the DHD it deletes it from your hotmail inbox? I've checked the box in the settings but the mail stays in the inbox (on web hotmail, not the DHD).
i've only got a hotmail and gmail account - the gmail works fine, btw - but it would be interesting to see if this is just my DHD/hotmail account, or if its happened to others with hotmail or any other mail service.

anyone?

I've almost the same problem. If I delete mail on my phone then it will also be deleted on hotmail but if I mark mail as read on my phone, on hotmail it is still unread
Try this:
-go to mail,
-hit menu,
-tap more,
-then tap settings,
-then acc. settings,
-leave your email as it is (so tap on next)
Protocol: POP
Email: Your email
User name: Your email
Password: Your pass
POP-server: pop3.live.com
Security type (or something similar): SSL
Serverport: 995
Hit Next and check this:
User name: Your email
Password: Your password
SMTP-server: SMTP.live.com
Security type (or something similar): TLS
Serverport: 25
Hit next and check for any difference
Temp. solution..

its really quite frustrating to go through a few days of handling mail on my DHD only to have to repeat it all again in my inbox.

I tried it out just now and it works for me. Did you check both "Sync deleted items from server" and "Delete mail on server" boxes?

of course. this was the first thing i checked.

just download the original mail program. You can find the apk with google. HTC mail has a lot of exchange problems with hotmail(sadly, the standard mail program is a bit basic).

Same problem here too. I gave up trying to set up hotmail, so I just added it as an account in my gmail. Now my hotmail gets forwarded to my gmail, and I don't have to worry about checking two different apps. I'm actually glad I had the problem. Much easier now to keep track of emails.

no luck on Anoniem's solution,
hope something can help with this issue,
*sigh*

I'd go with that too. I have an account on university mail, another gmail and one company account, the most sensible thing to do is to get everything delivered to one place i.e gmail. A lot less effort that way

Change the days to sync to 1 day when using activesync and hotmail.

App: Improved Email solved the problem
Hi guys, I have been using one app from marketplace called "Improved Email" (free) and it does good job in syncing hotmail account.
Hotmail does not support imap, so if you use pop3, when any email is deleted or marked as read/unread on you mobile, the change won't be reflected to the hotmail account accessed through webpage.
However, hotmail provides a solution by using exchange/activesync instead of imap. I have tried several apps including android/htc default one, "Improved Email" works the best but unfortunately it only display text based email instead of HTML version (this may be the restriction on hotmail exchange server).
How-To:
Start "Improved Email" app, put in your email address and password, select "MANUAL Setup" -> "Exchange".
Domain\Username: email address
Server: m.hotmail.com
check "User secure connection(SSL)"
then "Next"
Then, you should see "Account options" page where the checking frequency and others could be set.
"Next"
Then, define colour for this account
Last, give a name to this account.
Done!!
Now you should be able to see all your account folders, to delete emails, to make it read/unread, while the webpage one keeps updating.

If you don't have yahoo plus you can set it up for the free version of yahoo mail with these:
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: smtp.mail.mobile.yahoo.com (use authentication)
Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com")
Email Address: Your Yahoo! Mail address (e.g., [email protected])
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password
Im guess that maybe the client sends information about itself and yahoo is somehow rejecting it. Currently those settings dont work. Also smtp.mail.mobile.yahoo.com doesnt resolve, but smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com does.
these arent workin for me
Has anyone figured out why this only works via network and not WiFi?
nevermind.....

I'm on Rogers, so my guess is it will work with any carrier.
It's giving me the "Username or password incorrect. ()" error on Incoming settings and "Username or password incorrect. (AUTH PLAIN failed (535 authentication failed (#5.7.0)))" error on Outgoing settings. I double-checked that my credentials are good by signing off and re-logging to Yahoo mail. Just to note that I don't have Yahoo Plus.
Edit: Nevermind, it works. Apparently this doesn't work over Wifi, only over the mobile network. I knew there was a reason I ditched Yahoo in favor of GMail all those years ago!
worked for me on my at&t htc tytn. wm6.1
I needed to set the port numbers.
smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com:25
Guys it keeps telling me username or password incorrect? i know they are correct?? i tried doing the manual setup and to no avail .. it used to work automatically before flashing to cm rom
EDIT seems that yahoo.com is down for me .. WTF owell will try tomorrow

Try these settings:
Server Settings
Incoming Mail Server (POP3): pop.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL, port: 995
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication
Account Name/Username: [email protected]
Email address: [email protected]
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password
Note: if it doesn't work, then log onto ur yahoo account, then change the regional settings to Yahoo! Asia
It works great for me on wifi
the same thing kept happening to me after i put the cm rom on my mytouch. heres what i did and it finally worked
input the sign in info and select manual setup
choose the imap account
username:[email protected]
password:******
imap server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
port:143
smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
port:25
This did it for me
I did not choose ssl but added ":465" to the smtp server
so to recap
plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com - incoming
plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com:465 - outgoing
no ssl just authentication

Yahoo Mail on ADP build?

If you have a T-Mobile build, even modified on a rooted phone whether it's hero, hyk or jf, signing up to yahoo mail in the email app is cake. Takes seconds and you are done and set up. Push yahoo mail!!
It says, during set up, "Yahoo mail is free with T-Mobile....blah blah"
Change to an ADP build, STILL T-Mobile, and yahoo mail DOES NOT work??
Any idea on how to get Yahoo mail to work with an ADP build?
Here are the steps you need.
1. open up email
2. tap next
3. enter email address and password
4. hit manual setup
5. tap ok when the free yahoo! mail accounts only work over t-mobile wireless networks. yahoo! mail plus users should configure POP settings manually. message appears.
6. tap IMAP account.
7. from incoming server settings, set the following.
8. IMAP Server Field: imap.mail.yahoo.com
9. port: 143 (by default)
10. security type: TLS (if available)
11. scroll down and select next.
12. The device searches for incoming server info

14. SMTP server field: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
15. port: 25
16. security type: TLS (if available)
17. scroll down and select next
18. the device searches for outgoing server info
19. note that account options display and allow you to select how foten to check for email, set notifications, and check default setting account.
20. enter the account a name
21. hit done
easy
Thx!! That is working, at least partially. It let me set it up using the email app, but still has login issues, lots of username/password incorrect issues. BUT... it is working well enough to say that the solution you posted is at least one solution.
I've also set a bookmark using the browser for mobile yahoo mail that works too, just doesn't notify of new emails.
Thx!!

Yahoo email account setting

Yahoo POP3 transfer needs one to have a premium account (paid account) which many of us don't have. I couldn't find much information on the forum so I decided to post the setting in case someone else is looking for similar details. Sorry if this has been previously discussed.
1) From Application menu click on Email
2) Click on left button(settings) and click Add account
3) After you are done putting you information for username and password in, click on Manual Setup
4) Click on IMAP
5) For IMAP server: imap.mail.yahoo.com - Port: 143 leave the rest alone
6) For SMTP server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com - Port 587 leave the rest as they are.
7) Follow the steps per your preferences and you are done!
I hope I could help a bit.
Yahoo.com does that, Yahoo.(other country) will have pop3 access automatically.

Hi, I managed to sort out my yahoo mail. It is however for *@yahoo.co.uk
Note that I'm on the regular Yahoo mail, not Plus or anything paid. However I am on the new yahoo interface as opposed to classic.
1. Log into your yahoo mail and click on "options" on the far right area of your screen
2. Select "More Options..."
3. Click on "Pop and Forwarding" on the left menu
4. Ensure "Allow your Yahoo Mail to be POPed" is selected.
Ok now onto your phone settings (change yahoo.co.uk to *.com where applicable).
Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk (use authentication, optionally use port 587)
Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com")
Email Address: Your Yahoo! Mail address (e.g. [email protected])
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password

can someone help me?i want to have email on my hd2.im running android cyanoged mod7.are there any settings for that?thanks in advance
You should have an app called Gmail, in which you can set up your GMail account to send and recieve your Google mail to and from your phone. If you use Yahoo or some other mail provider, you have to ues the app called email.
I use the email app (not the gmail app) for all 3 of my email accounts. I have GMail, Yahoo, and Buckeye-Express mail all set up on mine.
Just go into the email app and press the menu button and choose 'add account', and then fill in the info for your particular account.
If you need help with account-specific settings and details, reply back and I'll help you out (Yahoo can be a real pain to set up on a mobile device)
i have the gmail app but still i cant have emails.if you can just tell me the settings....
for the gmail app, as long as you're setting it up with a gmail account, all you have to do is press the menu button in the app, choose 'add account', enter your gmail username ([email protected]) and password, and choose automatic setup. The app will communicate with the google servers for a few minutes, and when it's finished, you will ahve all your google emails on your phone.
but just in case:
incoming settings:
server type is imap
imap server: imap.gmail.com
port: 993
security type: SSL
outgoing settings:
smtp server: smtp.gmail.com
port: 465
security type: SSL -check the box that says require log in
thanks.you are my hero.

Set up outlook in the android default email app?

Has anyone had success trying to set up their outlook account with the stock email app ? How did you do it

By outlook do you mean exchange account? If so you need to open outlook and edit accounts. Copy settings into the mail account setup fields on N4. Its pretty straight forward.

By outlook i mean the "new" service microsoft rolled out as the sucessor of hotmail, I dont know if outlook its exchange, it should be since microsoft made it right? or maybe imap?
In the email app, enter your username/password, select exchange, and then on your comp log into your outlook account, then on the top right corner select options, then select 'see all options.'
Once you're there select 'Settings for POP, IMAP, and SMTP access' a little window should pop up.
Back on the phone. What you do is enter your email again where it says username and password.
On the server blank field copy the server under 'pop setting' in the little window.
Then hit next and follow the directions after.
Shouldn't even need to do that. Once you type in your email address it should auto populate just like if you do an @live.com or @Hotmail.com. That's the autodiscover service on an Exchange server which is usually at https://autodiscover.outlook.com (or.live.com or whatever).
I fill out with my outlook address , then select exchange, and on the next screen it auto populates but when i press next it says username or password incorrect, and i'm sure its the right password :/

Don't manually click manual setup, just click next and the email client will run off to the autodiscovery server and get the proper settings.
I haven't tested it with Outlook.com emails but with Live.com it works just fine.
if you do manual it should be:
\[email protected]
password
the server can be a few different ones but generally m.hotmail.com
SSL should be enabled.
I put my username / password then exchange server, then it goes:
domain/user
server
(here I added at the beginning "mail.")

hmm that is weird. I just found this page: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/outlook-to-go#1TC=t1 and under android it has either.. get the hotmail app or visit the website. that doesn't seem to suggest there are some settings does it? weird. Thanks, this worked for me also.
Update: It worked on my Motorola razr xt910, running Android 4.0.4, but the setup isn't working on my Cube U9GT2 tablet running Android 4.1.1. I tried most everything else suggested here on the Cube, and nothing has worked so far. I don't know how significant the ICS vs JB is, but the problem also could be related to the obscure Renegade rom I am running on the Cube tablet.
These also work fine with an outlook.com address...

Why has no one answered the question directly yet? As from what I've played with, I can't figure how to make it the default mail app on your phone. It would be nice to be able to use one, easy mail service for ALL your emails rather than the stock email service, gmail, ymail app, and be limited in those apps. I know what you're saying, but it doesn't sound like anyone else in the comment thread does.
