OTA Manual update problems - G2 and Desire Z General

No luck with the manual update. Tried it twice. Down loaded the file, moved it to /sdcard and renamed it update.zip and also tried just "update" with no extension. When I rebooting using the instructions, I saw a message in the top box that said "preparing SD card" but then nothing happened after that.
Any ideas?

after loading the zip on the phone power off /
hold vol down + power/ hit power on bootloader then hit power on recovery/
at the screen with the red triangle hold vol up + power/
then do install update.zip/
wait like 5 mins and dont do anything , the phone will power itself off and like a couple of times
boom your done doesn't wipe but you might need to resetup widgets

Tried that too and still no luck. I know the file's in the right place, but whenever I power up, it's not goiing into the mode where I can choose recovery. It's basically booting up normally after it says "preparing SD card". Strange. I guess I'm stuck waiting on the OTA update from tmob.

Yes, can't get to fast boot. Saw instructions for holding up-volume + trackpad then powering on. Also saw instructions holding down volume than power on.
Neither gets me there.

happened to me also a couple times. take the battery out then put it in, hold down trackpad and press or hold power button while holding trackpad down and then choose bootloader and then recovery

ok. It was my mis-understanding of the directions. I wasn't holding the keys until fastboot menu came up. Got it now. Thanks

Do i unzip the file or leave it how i download the file and just rename it update
(Never Mind Figured it out my self)

You leave it zipped. It doesn't download to the /sdcard root, so you have to move it then rename it to update.zip. Initially, I left off the file extension, but it was expecting it so it failed. After I added back the .zip, it worked flawlessly.
My one mistate was not holding down the keys to get into Fastboot. I was just pressing them simultaneously, not holding. After figuring that out, it was all cool.

Stuck at splash screen
multiple battery pulls
flashed sbf
redownloaded sbf reflashed incase it was currupted
flashed just system sbf
cant get into recovery with holding home and powering up, even with holding home and inserting battery.
Im at a complete losss dont know what else to try
When you removed the battery, did you leave it out a couple minutes?
Are you continuing to hold the home button after turning it on?
What version bootloader do you have?
What's the file name of the sbf's you're using?
battery pulls from a few seconds to 5-10-15 minutes and just now overnight.
Held the home button fro upto a minute still nothing
30.03
VRZ_MB810_2.3.15_1FF_01, and just the system flash i tried SHADO_X6_2.3.13_SYSTEM-ONLY
just got it into recovery holding the home and menu button, when i hit search no recovery menu comes up just the exclaimation with the android
ok scratch that, holding the menu key with the search key brings up the menu... This phone is messed up lol. volume rocker wont select anything though.... the factory reset is soooo close
E:cant mount cache:recovery/command
E:cant mount cache:recovery/log
thats what i get
OK i think its an hardware issue
only can get into recovery with home and search pressed.
only can pull up recovery menu with volume down and search
have to hold menu+volume up then volume down to scroll menu. was able to do a factory reset, still stuck at the m logo.
Downloaded the ota update.zip formatted sd card and put it on
apply update.zip results in error in sd card/update.zip (status 2)
I get stuck at the splash screen about 1 out of 3 times I restart. What usually works for me (but not always) is waiting a few minutes afer pull before restarting.
I actually called Verizon to get a replacement for this issue and the rep said this is a well known issue with the 2.2 update phones and they are actively working on a fix. Sucks
yea they wouldnt help me since the warantee isnt transferrable
Hey,
I have had a similiar issue and this is how I did it. I *successfully* flashed the .sbf and I was still stuck at the motorola boot logo. I then booted the phone into recovery and deleted the cache and data and everything. After I did this it booted up fine!
I hope that this helped, let me know :-D
^^^same like above. got stuck after flashing a million times. wiped data/cache and booted normally.
Are you able to go into the Bootloader?
yea, i was able to do that aswell, still nothing. ended up trading for a working droid 1

yes, bootloader was fine, and could get into recovery, but had to hold volume up with volume down to scroll... i concluded the phone was just a fluke.
I wouldn't doubt it got wet. That sort of stuff happens...

Clockwork Recovery from reboot

Hey guys,
So i am trying to put into recovery mode off reboot because i had a rom install that didnt run properly. When i do the volume down method, it goes to the HBoot screen, and immediately starts calculating some stuff on the screen, it doesnt let me scroll up and down to any other options. Am i missing something?
calculating stuff? when you get into hboot you should be able to push the volup or voldown to scroll to recovery and then press power to select. otherwise pull your batt. and put it back in then just plug the phone into a wall outlet or usb. if your on CM it will boot CM up automatically. (sort of a glitch, but in your case it might save you instead haha)
the calculating is just the bootloader looking for an update.zip. a few seconds after it finishes you should be able scroll down to recovery.
Problem Solved
When i let the update.zip load. It said to let it update, or press power to reboot.
It kept fast booting.. I think thats what the problem was.
Solved the problem by starting without the SD card mounted. Then once it loaded I was able to arrow up and down. Popped SD back in and was able to properly recover.
Thanks

[Solved-Q] Must be a moron, but I just can't get vol+/power-button to CWM-R to work

This is a painful message to write, but I am desparate. This should be so simple!
Have a U8800 standard (at least it says only "U8800" in settings/about phone.
What have I done:
- Upgraded some time ago to 2.3.5 Rev B522 from Huawei.
- Then rooted it with SuperOneClick.
- Installed ClockWorkMod from Play Store.
- Downloaded CWM Recovery 5.5.0.4 stable from xda and placed the file into the /.cust-backup/image folder via Remount.
- Turned off Fast boot under settings/applications
:: What worked/happened.
- Rooting went fine, ES file explorer and others get root-permissions ok.
- But got into CWMRecovery only via CWM program (Choosing "Reboot into recovery"). Never with the holding buttons vol+ and power-button during power-on.
Figured it was that locked bootloader on B522 that was the problem.
What I did:
- Followed the instructions in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457490 (Get your pink screen back).
- In CWM Recovery flashed "update-B518-bootloader.zip".
- Got "ok installed or something to that effect" from CWM Recovery.
:: What worked/happened.
- Still could not get into CWMRecovery via button-holding. Tried reflashing the B518 bootloader a few times, but just no difference.
Read somewhere that each Huawei firmware-release comes with it's own bootloader, so lets try to install Huawei B518.
- Only place I could find the image was here http://huaweiideosx5.blogspot.no/2012/03/u8800-b518-23-software.html
- U8800V100R001C00B518G001.zip
- Had to take out the external SD-card to get the /sdcard/dload directory on the internal SD-card.
-Seems to be important to have dload on the internal SD-card and not the external.
- Booting the phone with vol+, vol-, power did not start the downgrade, but was able to trigger it via settings/storage/software upgrade.
After downgrade to B518 (Checked version in settings/about phone):
- Deleted /sdcard/dload directory.
- Rooted with SuperOneClick
- Installed ClockWorkMod from play store again.
- Put CWM Recovery 5.5.0.4 into ./cust_backup/image again (think this was unecessary. I think it was already there but did it anyways)
- Turned off Fast boot under settings/applications.
:: What worked/happened.
- The phone is now in B518 software, but still can not get into CWM Recovery via keypressing at boot.
I hold the vol+ and power-buttons all the way to "desktop" so to say, but can not for the life of me get into CWM Recovery that way. Getting into CWM recovery 5.5.0.4 via instructing CWM application to boot into recovery works fine, though.
I am drooling at the thought of ICS Aurora, but I don't dare before I can reliably get into CWM Recovery via keypress.
Sorry if this is very stupid post, but I have tried so much.
Maybe the volume buttons are faulty? Turn off the phone and try this: hold down volume up; while holding press power button as long as the logo comes up. Release power button but continue holding volume up. If it did not work, try doing same with volume down.
Yeah, do what Blefish advised you but do it while the phone is off and charging. I have a kinda broken power key and with this 'trick' it boots faster and more reliable. Keep holding the 3 buttons until you see the recovery.
Sent from my U8800
Thank you both for trying to help me here!
Unfortunately I have had no luck with your suggestions.
Re: Broken keys.
Power and volume-buttons seems to work well when the phone is on. Also when I boot into recovery through the CWM program, navigate to advanced/key-test, the vol+, vol- and power button seems to work well there too.
On pressing the power-button, CWM-R reports Key: 116
On pressing the vol+-button, CWM-R reports Key: 115
On pressing the vol--button, CWM-R reports Key: 114
So I think the keys must be ok, right?
Blefish: I did what you suggested, as I understood it.
When the phone boots, there are three stages of logos.
1. A static logo of Huawei's red "fan?".
2. A short "comet" animation.
3. An animated logo of Huawei's "fan", where some highlight flashes from left to right over the fan.
I hold the power-button in until I see the first static logo, then let go of the power-button and hold the volume-key(s).
Is this the same stage in the boot-process that you were thinking of?
I have tried vol+, vol- and both vol+ and vol-, together with releasing the power-button at that point.
Have not had any success with that, and ended on the "desktop" each time.
AceDroidX: I tried your suggestion as well.
I did this:
1. Shut down the telephone
2. Plugged in the power.
3. A "fan"-logo appears which is replaced by an animated battery.
4. Upon seeing the animated battery, I tried the various key-hold variants.
- vol+ and power : Ended up at desktop.
- vol- and power : Ended up at desktop.
- vol+ and vol- and power : Ended up at desktop.
So not much success either.
I am out of ideas... Can it be that B522 bootloader that still lingers in there, not replaced by installing the B518 software?
Well, idk what else to suggest.. Maybe your problem is here?

I remember that when i mount my phone in linux, there was a partition with just the image folder. Some files like boot.img and recovery.img where there. Try to put the recovery image in there and see if it makes any difference.
I'd like see your versioninfo, can you upload a screenshot?
You can check mine from B528
AceDroidX: When I use Remount, I am able to mount that partition as read/write so that I can copy CWM's Recovery image in there. I think it is identical as mounting it up remotely, as you do. I am after all able to boot into CWM-Recovery, just not by key-pressing? I suppose I could boot into Linux and try to mount up the partitions as you do.
Hi kilroystyx: I can not figure out where to find a similar-looking page as the one you have in your picture.
I have the settings/about phone, if that is an older version of what you have there?

Based on the screenshots your installation is fine.
Just one last shoot based on what AceDroidX says, with phone off press Vol+ and hold then connect USB cable to PC or charger and stay holding Vol+ then wait...wait and what you see?
hi all,
i'm using some ics roms and it seems ics supports natively vol++power button to take screenshots but it doesnt work for me... do you know if there are some custom ics rom where it will work?
thank you
Wow.. It is hard to believe.. but I have actually ... eventually found a way to get into that CWM-Recovery every time.
It is a combination of your suggestions.
I have been doing variations, trying to figure something out and eventually there is a method.
What I must do, on this phone, in order to get into CWM-R is this:
1. If the charging cable is in, then unplug first.
2. Turn the phone off.
3. Take out the battery and put it back in.
- This makes a difference on my phone, at least. I am not able to get into CWM-R wihtout taking the battery out first.
4. Press and hold Vol+
5. With Vol+ being pressed continously, insert the charging-cable.
6. Wait for the Fan-animation to finish and the "battery-charging" animation to start.
7. When the battery-charging animation is running and the screen eventually goes black, keep holding the Vol+ button for some time.
- Sometimes it works to keep holding the Vol+ button for only a second or two. Sometimes I must hold it up to 30 seconds.
7. Press and hold the power-button in addition to the Vol+
8. Wait for CWM-Recovery to start.
Thank you very much for your help.
Now I think I can try for ICS!

TWRP problems

I read through just about every post. I can't get TWRP to stick. I just received this phone two days ago and I'm starting not to like it. I have system images and everything from Motorola. I want to start everything from scratch. It seems like nothing is working. This is really annoying. I'm coming from using Galaxy phones so this is a bit different. I wanted to ditch touchwiz.
Flash twrp, unplug, then power the phone off.
Turn on by holding power + vol down, scroll down to select recovery to boot into it. Should stick.

Ok I'll try this once I get back to my laptop. I did end up flashing the stock files I found on this site instead of the ones Motorola sent me. I got the notification to receive the update so I guess that's a good thing.

Recovery Is Not Seandroid Enforcing

I tried to root my phone S7 Edge 6.1.1 just a moment ago using ODIN and CF Auto Root. I got the PASSES! sign in ODIN but upon phone rebooting I am stuck on the Samsung S7 Edge logo screen with text in red 'Recovery Is Not Seandroid Enforcing" up the top.
At this time I am unable to turn my phone off, when I do it just turns back on and goes to the same screen. I can't get into download or recovery mode either.
Any help on how to fix would by greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Also thought I should add, my phone doesn't get registered when I connect it to my PC either, it wont show up in ODIN so I am unable to flash a stock recovery at this time.
It's trying to boot into recovery.
When you say you rooted with CF Auto Root, what did you do precisely? And did you follow Chainfire's specific instructions regarding the lack of screen output during the process?

Thanks for the reply.
I used CF-Auto-Root-zerolte-zeroltexx-smg925f.tar to root.
The steps I used was to simply put my phone into download mode and use ODIN to flash the file mentioned above. That is as far as I got unfortunately. I did this once before, a few month back when I first got the phone with no issues. I remember having to install TWRP but I couldn't remember if I did that pre-root or post-root. But I think that is where I went wrong.
Now I am unable to do anything with my phone. I can't turn it off, get into download or recovery mode. When I hold down VOL UP+POWER+HOME it just resets the phone back to the samsung logo screen.
Any ideas on what I could do?
You used the CF Auto Root file for an S6 Edge.

OH GOD. You're right. I just realized that. I was supposed to have them saved into their own folders but I guess I saved that one too the wrong folder.
So what does that mean for the life of my phone then? Is it toast or is it recoverable somehow?
What is your model? Is it the SM-G935F? If so, first things first, download the correct CF Auto Root file for your device (here) and try again. Press VOL DOWN+POWER+HOME and it should reboot into Download Mode. Then try to flash the correct file in Odin again.
These phones are very difficult to hard brick, especially with something like CF Auto Root so you should be ok.

Yes, it is a SM-G935F. Unfortunately I am unable to reboot the phone into Download Mode. When pressing VOL DOWN+POWER+HOME it just takes me straight back to the Samsung logo where it says "Recovery Is Not Seandroid Enforcing". I'm hoping that once the battery drains completely I will be able to boot into Download Mode again.
Try simply resetting it instead. Press volume down and the power key (don't press home) for around 7-10 seconds. Once it starts to reset, remove your fingers from the buttons very briefly then press volume down, home and power to enter download mode.

That hasn't worked either unfortunately.
I just found this thread from a guy having a similar problem. He just had to wait for his phone's battery to drain completely and then he was able to enter download mode again.
You shouldn't have to though. If you can get the phone to reset at all (even if it's to make another attempt to go into recovery) then providing you time it right, you should be able to get into download mode. Did keeping your fingers on just the volume down and power buttons do anything? Keep them on continuously for up to 20 seconds and see what happens. Did you say pressing vol up & home & power made it reset and try to again get into recovery? What happens if, as soon as the screen indicated it's resetting, you remove your fingers and quickly press vol down & home & power instead?
Anyway, even if you have to wait until the phone dies, getting into download will be possible eventually. Then worst case scenario would be you having to reflash stock back. Or, as would be my preference, flash TWRP then flash a custom rom zip like Superman.
Just to confirm, I take it you selected OEM Unlock in dev options?

I have never had any trouble getting into recovery or download before so I know the method. But just the properly clarify for you I will explain some of the combination I have tried without success. Bare in mind the phone is constantly turned on and idles on the Samsung logo.
I have tried:
Hold VOL DOWN+POWER+HOME, the phone resets and goes back to the logo.
Hold VOL DOWN+POWER, same as above.
Hold VOL UP+POWER+HOME, nothing happens at all.
Hold VOL UP+POWER, same as above.
Hold VOL DOWN+POWER+HOME, release and repress all on black screen, just goes back to logo.
Hold VOL DOWN+POWER, release and hold VOL DOWN+POWER+HOME on black screen, just goes back to logo.
and numerous other things like random combination to try and enter Download or Recovery mode, which have all failed.
Right now it's just stuck on the Samsung logo and staying there, taking forever to drain battery. I work in the morning so hopefully it is dead by then and I can get into Download mode.
Have already started download stock firmware in hopes that I will be able to flash it after.
Thanks a bunch for your help. If you think of anything else I might be able to try let me know!
Oh wow. 100+ attempts and I followed your last post about holding for up to 20 seconds. I was waiting ~5 seconds and releasing thinking that it hadn't worked.
Finally go into Download mode and will flash stock firmware and let you know how I go.
Thanks again! I owe you a cold one.
EDIT: Was no need to flash stock firmware. Just flashed the proper version of CF Auto Root and it worked. Again, thank you so much!
Fantastic. Hope you get it sorted.
On a side note, you have probably already tripped knox and you will have lost you OS data and possibly even what you have stored on internal storage. If so, I suggest you install TWRP, format data (you will lose everything with this but it removed encryption) and install a custom rom like Superman 1.9 from your external SD. It's better than plain stock and comes pre-rooted with plenty of other mods.

hello,
my S7 Edge was rooted with cf-auto-root and worked fine but after 2 monthe I've installed LBE_Security_Rel_6.1.1928_A1_DE_v5_signed and reconized the message device is not tooted.
I was not very clever and cofirmed the question "fix the root problem" I don't remember exactly the words. After that root was gone.
I've flashed the stock Fw G935FXXU1APD1_G935FDRE1APC3_DRE but I still have the message "recovery is not seandroid enforcing" after trying to root with CF auto root.

Is there any way to get root again
Any help on how to fix would by greatly appreciated.

Simply hold down Home + Power + Volume Down for 10-15 seconds - don't release when the phone initially reboots and gives the same error, keep them held down and download mode will appear. I have to hold for 11 seconds, a strangely unrounded number.
Hello Guys I have this Same issue Yesterday....... This happens when you flash outdated CF Autoroot. CF Autoroot Updated on 25/08/2016... Download it...
Fix for Stuck in Logo Screen
Just Click and Hold ...... Vol Down + Menu + Power Keys ...... DO NOT RELEASE. IT Will Restart. DONT release. It will restart again and you will be download mode.
i found this during the rooting process. its a bit different to older samsungs on the s7 / s7edge. YOU HAVE TO KEEP HOLD OF VOL DOWN + HOME + POWER until it enters download mode, which can be 20-25 seconds
