No Longer Available On XDA

jellette said:
So, I found that the build.prop trick from the Captivate forum, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819721 , will work on my Vibrant and gives me access to:
Asphalt 5
Vlingo
Robert Parker
Krazy Kart Racing
And This Day In History, which I already had access to
My question is, does anyone know if there are more apps that I didn't get access to? I heard mention of a newer task manager but didn't see it in the list.

I actually wonder about this...I mean do you need to be rooted? And if you changed the Vibrant build to the original i9000 Galaxy S build wouldn't that make the apps that are made to work with the Vibrant stop working(or something like that)?

Well, I downloaded them then switched back to my original build.prop and everything works, new apps from samsung, and my old apps.

[Q] Korean Galaxy Tab has no games in market!

I've had my Tab for 3 days now and the market place just comes up blank in the games section. No listing for any games at all. SlideMarket has some games, and all the games I have came from there, but even those seem to be limited.
Has anyone heard anything about a limitation on the games?
Thanks!
Get market enabler and switch over to another country.

Yes.
http://phandroid.com/2010/04/06/all-games-to-be-removed-from-south-korean-android-market/
Root your phone, install MarketEnabler or MarketAccess, set it to another country, enjoy.
This is what i do to access paid apps (they are not available in my country).
Check out this thread. Allows you to change your CSC region and enable Samsung Apps.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868711
No offense Beerkan, but he talks about Android Market, not Samsung apps, and considering Samsung apps has next to nothing in it, it's not even worth the work.
none taken. Mate.
Thanks!
Thanks to all of you!!
Only problem now is that I don't think I have an IMEI !
I looked on the back of the unit, and there is a serial number, on the box and the serial number, dialed the numbers for the IMEI and get a not valid number. Also checked the phone info and etc. Nothing.
The phone system here is different, so maybe there is no such thing as an IMEI here?
I had heard somewhere earlier this summer that the games for the iPhone were being restricted some because of the rating issue, but I thought that the Tab would at least have some since the Galaxy S has been out so long. Oh well! I'll just have to wait some.
Thanks again to all for your help!
Android has same restrictions, it's a legal problem. All you need to do is root (use z4root), then install MarketAccess, use MarketAccess to fake your "location" (in other words, it will say to Market that you are for example using a USA or German SIM card), so it will show you a market for another country. And other countries have the games.
Well, I kinda solved this problem, lol!
My friend gave me a 16gb micro sd card with 4 gig of apps he downloaded from somewhere. some of them work, and some don't.
So I'm a happy camper now!!
but still no Angry Birds

[Q] trick the market

is there a way to trick the market to make it think my phone is a better phone? what i mean is, can i make the market think im running say, a droid x, or an incredible, since thats htc, so i can download apps i wouldnt normally be able to? i remember back when i couldnt see angry birds and it was the worst, it would be nice to be able to see every app, and try out the higher end ones that the developers leave us out of.
i seem to remember something with a build.prop file being changed but i can't find anything about it
Android app devs exclude lower end android phones because, they can't run their app at full potential and that would take away from the experience of using that app.
but with a rooted and oc'd phone i would think theres a way to do it, and run them fine
Sent from my FroShedYo V10-ERIS using XDA App
if you google [app name].apk you can find many apps.
It's not always about CPU speed or rooting, many of the limitations of this phone app-wise seem to come from the version of ARM processor it uses.
You can only push the poor eris to do so much.
As the above poster stated though, google the apps you're looking for. You'll find downloads pretty easy (aside from paid ones), but just because you find them doesn't mean the install will be successful or that it'll run properly/at all.
I would like to see if many of the apps would work though, there are some paid apps that I really could use.

Download Eris Market Fix in the Market and run the patch. After rebooting you should be able to search for any app.

that was the first thing i tried, and it has been working for most apps, but theres still a few paid apps i can't see ie:splashtop remote desktop, some of the paid keyboards, etc
any other ideas? i really dont want to pirate an app someone worked hard on
You need to also keep in mind that the X, Incred, Fascinate, ect. have a higher resolution. The Eris wont be able to run apps designed for them downloaded from the market simply because the resolution is different. You would have to upload the apk's to your computer and actually port them to the Eris.
as for the build.prop... you'd want to find the following line: "ro.build.fingerprint="
i've provided two (2) examples below... first being from an HTC Incredible running a 2.2 ROM... second being from a stock Eris (2.1 ROM).
ro.build.fingerprint=verizon_wwe/inc/inc/inc:2.2/FRF91/231334:user/release-keys (Incredible)
ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/htc_desirec/desirec/desirec:2.1/ERD79/185970:user/release-keys (Eris)

UPDATE: Root for [Sprint, CDMA] Tab w/ Gingerbread 2.3.4 + Extras

Update:
Looks like they've got root running over here:

GTALK with Video! See this post! Super easy install!:

If anybody knows of a way to get the crt animation going that they seemed to have removed for the tab, please post or pm! Thanks!

Don't see a post for this, maybe this is dumb, but good to have this information east at hand for others. Please inform me if I'm wrong of if any progress is made (hopefully soon!)
There is currently no exploit out to root the Sprint Tab on 2.3.4
Super One Click Root will not work, even with GingerBreak, nor will z4root
Looking forward to some sweet progress tho!
If only I were a dev...
The phone call function is even more important for me, but seems no replacement of original phone*.apk from other devices is available now.

Because the topic has been moved
The only thing I was using root for was to remove the annoying startup and shutdown videos. There aren't any great ROMs for the Sprint Tab, and the OEM build is pretty solid, so I don't think root access is a big deal for many users at the moment.

I wish people would stop passing their own opinions as that of "many users".
Titanium backup, Google Talk with video, AdFree Android, Chainfire3D, drocap2... Shall I go on listing awesome and invaluable apps that require root access?
Has anyone else seen this.
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-tab-on-android-2-3-3-gingerbread/
I have not tried it just came accross it. I only got Gingerbread running a few minutes ago.\
Edit: This is for Android 2.3.3 and NOT the current Sprint update of 2.3.4.
I'm hoping for a custom kernel with root and CWM soon, and I'd help expedite the process if someone needs a tester. Or even someone to do all the work (as long as there's some direction, i know i could manage to piece things together and compile it, i just suck with actual pure coding)
missing my Ti Backup and others as Chahk mentioned.
Next time use search before you post a question.
It was on the front page of general:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1157064
I think it doesn't help that sprint's tab isn't very popular and doesn't have the developers like the GSM does. I know nothing about it but I would guess that even though people are developing roms, that finding a root exploit is a completely different animal. I'm guessing since 2.3.4 isn't on a lot of phones yet doesn't help.

Sorry...I didn't mean to bother you. I've been reading some of the GB threads over the past couple days and it seemed to me that most people weren't that bummed about losing root for the time being, myself included. I could definitely be wrong, which is why I said "I don't think". Again, sorry if I bothered you with the post.
The biggest thing I miss is tethering from the phone.

If youre on Gingerbread, root access isnt that important to you.
Sent from my SPH-P100 using XDA App
I'm going back to 2.2 until root is achieved for 2.3.4. I mainly got the tab so I could tether on the go. Having to find wifi while out and about when you want to get online is difficult sometimes. If you're lucky to find open and free, many times they have ports blocked. You can only 80 or 8080. I've got wd live and roku and boxee for Netflix and crap.
im definately frustrated i dont have root. i want to put some apks in system/app and cant through crippled file explorers. also, i want to start pushing out some themes. the SGT has gotten little love and that needs to change. i was holding out on FROYO cause i knew it wouldnt be long till everyone was on GB. ive been talking with DRockstar about getting a cwm put together specifically for the SGT and that should get things rolling.
please give me your feedback.

Not at all. Those are great tools and I will be running them again on my Tab once an exploit is discovered. But for the time being, not having those tools doesn't really affect my day to day use of the device much. That includes listening to Slacker, using Facebook, email, browsing, Qik video chat, Netflix, etc. There are a lot of people like me who like the power that comes with root, but not having it for a few weeks or even months isn't going to kill them.

One of the first things I did with root was adjust the pixel density in the build.prop file so the icons didn't look so cartoonish. If the GB update breaks that and I can't fix it, then it might kills me. With the larger icons, the Zeam launcher doesn't even look right at all.

If your device is rooted, you won't have access to the Movies section.
Nice, Google, nice.

Working on rooted defy. Movie section is there. But not willing to 3.99 to test it. Someday. Running good though. Looks nice. Kinda reminds me of wm7

Working great on my N1... thanks for posting
I noticed that some apps vanish from My Apps in the new Market. I had about 4 apps to update in the old Market, two manual because of changed permissions. I left it as-is and installed the new Market. In the new Market, only the two apps without changed permissions appeared as updates in My Apps. The other two apps had vanished completely from the My Apps list. If I search for them manually they will still show up and I can update them though.
You may want to try clearing the data of the market app
Install the new market using the apk from android central.
I like a nice little improvement to the notification: it says "updating" instead of "installing" now
Yet, it is not performing fast enough... I feel laggy when using it. And the new UI looks like WP7 (though I personally like this new design )
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
so it's not just me thinking that it's really laggy ... maybe it's not the final version?
or maybe we now need a Dual-Core Phone to use the new Market
It runs fine for me on the N1 most of the time. The only lag I've noticed is when it's fetching the icons for the apps on the Staff Picks screen or similar. When the icons have been downloaded it runs smoothly. I like the Honeycomb/ICS-like design.
Downloaded Market from http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/07/12/download-the-new-android-market-v3-0-26-with-support-for-movies-and-books/ I am not sure when it will go live in my country so Downloaded from there..I love it but Kinda fell Lag.I think it is new so might take few days/weeks to fix it over it is SO COOL on SGS2 but I have a Problem I can't see Movies Option I think Movies option is not Available in my country yet
Yeah, movie section doesnt appear on my market using MIUI Rom.
Anybody else having issues with Facebook since switching markets? Logic says it can't effect of but since I updated the market, Facebook won't load. Happened immediately after installing the market.
don't be so quick to yell at google for blocking movies if you're rooted
it's pretty clear the movie studios wouldn't give them the licenses for the movies unless they blocked rooted devices
i mean, i'm not agreeing with the studios. cuz are they REALLY worried people are gonna ****ing steal ****ty low res videos off their cellphone? there's SO MANY other(better) ways to pirate these movies. but whatever

i couldn't figure out how to play using the sixaxis app but what controllers are compatible?
the link is working, but I can't download because it is saying that none of my devices are compatible with the game. The A500 is in the list of compatibles devices.
Does anybody known how to resolve this?
I was using the Thor rom and couldn't get the game because it kept saying my device was incompatible. I switched over to the Honeylicious rom, the game downloaded fine and it runs without a problem.

Not sure why you wouldnt be able to get it on stock 3.2... Im on a rooted 3.2 and it dled without any issue...
I'm still running stock 3.2 and it downloaded with no problems for me.
me too, market says my acer iconia is incompatible when I checked just now. I remember that it was still compatible a couple of days ago when it was released. I should have downloaded it then.
Any reason for rockstar to remove a500 in the compatible list?
It happenned to me also. I was on Lightspeed 1.7 , I switched to Honeylicious and same problem.
It works very well on the Acer tab a500. Don't know why it's not available on the Market.
Hopefully, the apk is available elsewhere...

Same here, no GTA III : 10th AE for me. A501 from frys.com. 3.0.1 on board. It shows in Tegra Zone, but after redirecting to Market it says it cannot be found or sth like that.
Brutalpanda,
As everybody knows, they're other places than the Android Market to get apps for android devices on internet...
This was a very poor decision by RS Games. I bought the game on December 15 much like many other people on here probably did. I still have the game installed and everything runs well, but I would now be forced to backup the apk in order to make sure I can reinstall it later if I were to switch roms or whatever. Hopefully they bring support back soon, would be nice being able to download future updates.
I a company makes it harder (and really in this case impossible) for me to purchase something from, how could I feel guilty for obtaining it surreptitiously?
p.s. pirate bay is wholly unnecessary

I believe I went with the third link, but first looks the same
Ok enough with the BS.
I got it, it runs fine on my Iconia.
I don't know what incompatibilty there is, but I've been trying for three days to get it from the android market. three days!
I flashed several different roms on my device including asus and motorola based ones! I even unsuccessfully tried to change my build.prop.
Nobody can say I didn't try.
I got it from a famous link site, I should have started there, i would have played the game the whole week-end instead of flashing roms.
Nicely done Rockstar.

Which is exactly why I changed my rating from a five to a two.
"I currently have the game installed in my Acer Iconia Tab A500 and everything works perfectly. It seems that Rockstar Games has decided to remove support for my device at least for the interim and I don't really appreciate that. It works very well for my particular device and Rockstar Games is now shooting itself in the foot since some people with unofficially supported yet capable devices will be unable to obtain the game legitimately which means their only option will be piracy."
