Apologies if this has been discussed before, I have been researching this for a few days now and have tried every single method that has been advised but was unable to replace the hosts file from my Desire with a custom one. Seems the methods used for the Hero and other Android phones do not work on the Desire. Has anyone managed to replace the default 'hosts' file with a custom one?
My Desire IS rooted. I have tried the adb push method after deleting original file and remounting, I always get an error, something 'cannot allocate space' or similar. I have also tried using Root Explorer, again it says the file is too big. If I make the hosts file smaller by removing some data from it, it copies it, then the phone restarts itself and then when i check, the old hosts file is back (the original hosts file only has one entry for local host 127.0.0.1). I also tried editing the hosts file on the device using Root Explorer, I save, then the phone restarts and all the changes are lost. I seem to have tried all the possibilities and had no joy.
And before you ask, yes, I tried installing the AdFree app from the market, it doesn't seem to do anything, and sometimes it does restart my phone as well.
Any advice how to sort this out would be much appreciated.
are you doing all this in recovery mode?
Hello,
i have created a patched Adfree app for Desire
Adree now loads the hosts-file to
/sdcard/etc/hosts
i have removed /system/etc/hosts
and symlinked to /sdcard/etc/hosts
after the first start klick on "revert" and then on "Update & Install Hosts"
after that you can edit the Hosts file in /sdcard/etc/hosts and it will be used by android system
all files attached
(start in recovery using recovery script,
after that run the install script - STEP1 inside,
reboot into System
run install Script - STEP2)
please tell me if it wont work for you

But i have some bug: get java.io.EOFExecepion error when i try to update.
ect/hosts folder on sd, installed apk by rootexplorer
where is the problem? I have just pushed my custom hosts file to /system/etc in recovery and it works without any problems.
Just mount /system in the root recovery and push it...
my hosts is from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=664532

i had this error 2 times,
after pressing "revert" the error is gone
--edit--
seems to be a random error.
but after "revert" it works
@ aslocum
the problem is, that you cant update the file if the system is running. but if u symlink it, it is possible
How many times do you update the hosts file? The hosts from the thread I linked is really good and optimized. better the the adfree one.i do not need to update it till we get full write access...

you are right, it is not necessary to update the hosts-file all the time,
but i like it to add / replace the file even when im not near to a PC.
i thought it is a solution, and i want to share it with all the others.
No offense to you sometimes im also in the mood just to make something work and others wont understand why
Most times its also fun to make things work

Hey kingchris,
Thanks for your efforts in creating the patched version. I have installed your apk, put the hosts file on the sdcard in /etc folder. Ran the app, clicked revert, it said Success, then Download and install Hosts, it went ok, now it says 'No need to update, your system already has the latest version. I click ok, but it doesn't seem to block any ads. Not sure what to do. Does the app have to be running in the background to work?
Trying to run the install script I got the following:
C:\adfreepatched>install-adfree-windows-step1.bat
C:\adfreepatched>adb-windows.exe shell mount /system
- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -
C:\adfreepatched>adb-windows.exe shell mount /sdcard

C:\adfreepatched>install-adfree-windows-step2.bat
Sorry for being such an ignorant
i have created a new version of the fiel with a step1 and step2 batch
boot into recovery.
run recovery-windows.bat
run install-adfree-windows-step1.bat
reboot into your normal system
install-adfree-windows-step2.bat
then start adfree
if you get the Error Message try it again.
i think this is not an error created by the modification,
this is a problem on checking and downloading the hosts file
i made an error in the first script
in the script i wrote adb mount but it has to be adb shell mount
Uninstalled the program, deleted the /etc/hosts from my sdcard and started all over. If i boot into recovery mode and I get to the green recovery screen, I can no longer type any commands from the terminal window. If I reboot into Android, I run the two install commands and here are the results:
C:\adfreepatched2>install-adfree-windows-step1.bat
C:\adfreepatched2>adb-windows.exe shell mount /system
mount: can't read /etc/fstab: No such file or directory
C:\adfreepatched2>adb-windows.exe shell mount /sdcard
mount: can't read /etc/fstab: No such file or directory

C:\adfreepatched2>adb-windows.exe shell cp /system/etc/hosts /sdcard/etc/hosts
C:\adfreepatched2>adb-windows.exe shell rm -r /system/etc/hosts
rm: can't remove '/system/etc/hosts': Directory not empty
C:\adfreepatched2>adb-windows.exe shell ln -s /sdcard/etc/hosts /system/etc/host
s
ln: /system/etc/hosts: File exists
C:\adfreepatched2>install-adfree-windows-step2.bat
C:\adfreepatched2>adb-windows.exe install signed-Adfree_patched.apk
812 KB/s (39004 bytes in 0.046s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/signed-Adfree_patched.apk
Success
The program is installed on my phone, it says Update found, i press ok, then click on Revert, all it does is it restarts my phone. Here, I went and replaced the 1KB hosts file from /sdcard/etc/ with the one in your folder, then when I clicked Revert, it said Success! Your hosts file has been restored. I then clicked Download & install hosts, and it said Success! your Android device should now be AdFree, however you might need to reboot to clear your cache. I rebooted the device. Ran AdFree again and it says your good to go! No need to update, your system already has the latest version.
So I guess it should now be working?
I installed a few 'free' apps from the market to see if I get the adds, and sure they are there.
For some reason, I still think it is using the /system/etc/hosts version instead of the version on the sdcard.

you have to open a second Command,if you are in the green recovery console
and run the step1.bat there
if you type after you have done all the steps
cd system
cd etc
ls -al *host*
you should see something like
lrwxrwxrwx 1 0 0 17 May 13 04:43 hosts -> /sdcard/etc/hosts
then its rights
I got that, thanks, but please read the second part of my last message and tell me do you think that is ok? I have installed Adfree, it says it is up to date, but it is still not blocking ads, apparently.
sould be right now
That's what I thought, but is there another way to tes apart from running apps that use adds? I tried by putting a few sites taken from the hosts file into the browser, and it opens all of them I have a customised hosts file on my pc as well, and it works like a charm.
then use your customized one. idk if the files from adfree uptodate. but i can say it will work
Finally Adfree working

Thanks a lot man, seems to be working ok now, I have had so much trouble getting this to work, finally working.
I have successfully updated adfree with your file. Thanks so much.
Sorry to ask a silly question...
because when I boot into the recovery mode, I can see several options available but I cannot choose them.
I hold volume down & power on, then I select "recovery" & press "power" again that means I choose this option then it goes into recovery mode, right? In the recovery mode, I cannot choose anything because if I press any button it simply turns off the monitor! What should I do??
(I take out the battery to complete the reboot........... There must be some other ways?)

Not sure if you've resolved this or not. If not, what recovery are you using? Iv use Amon_Ra's on my HTC Magic, and Clockwork's on HTC Desire, both of which allow you to use the scrollball/pad to select the menu's
Ok here's the story..i've download several framework-res.apk file and wanted to push it to my phone, but i dont know how..anyone in the theme thread will said push it through ADB and i know nothin about ADB which make me think a better way (and get me a bootloop) . I paste the framework-res.apk into the root of my sd card. Then open root explorer, navigate to sd card, copy the framework-res.apk then go to /system/framework mount r/w then paste it..guess what? my phone reboot and i just yess!! it workss!!
and here you go, I got a present which is stuck at "Sony Ericsson" text and freeze there and starting to panic like hell
Ok, Here how i manage to repair it without losing anything:
1. Get SuperOneClick. Extract it anywhere. (i extract it at desktop)
2. In your computer, navigate to C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32 and find cmd.exe and
copy it. Then paste in in SuperOneClick folder.
3. Now connect your phone to your computer and press the power button to
start the phone. You will get the bootloop which is "Sony Ericsson" text and
freeze there.
4. Now in SuperOneClick folder, open SuperOneClick.exe which you used to
rooted you phone. When superoneclick box come out, press "SHELL ROOT"
and leave superoneclick process it. A box will come out said:
"Device has a temporary ADB root!"
"Reboot your device to remove it"
5. Thats the trick! At this point your phone will still stuck at Sony Ericsson text.
6. Get original framework-res.apk. in superoneclick folder ealier make new folder
inside name it framework.
7. Now remember the cmd you paste earlier in superoneclick folder? click it.
At this point make sure ur X8 still connected to ur computer and already
do the step no 4.
8. cmd box will come out (black box). type in "adb remount" without quote.
you will see "remount succeeded" after you type command above.
9. Remount succeeded above mean, you already have full privilege whether to
copy and paste file in /system. At this time u still stuck at the
"Sony Ericsson" text.
10. Now remember the original framework-res.apk in framework folder earlier?
now we gonna push the original file into /system.
in the cmd box (black box) after u see the remount succeeded. type in
this command without quote:
"adb push framework /system/framework"
Explanation: "adb push" an order to adb to push the file.
"framework" folder [email protected] u made earlier in superoneclick
folder that contain orig framework-res.apk
"/system/framework" is the location of orig framework-res.apk
in ur phone.
11. After u type the command above..cmd will show the file been push and there
will be 1 push and 0 skipped. And if u successful doing all of the step above,
ur phone will reboot automatically and no more bootloop.
This is what happen to me and how i manage to repair my phone without losing anything and without pc companion. This tutor can be useless to the expert but very useful for beginner like me.
You can also push others file with this method too, like conversation.apk and bunch of others system file..you just have to know the exact location of original file in ur phone and change my command above to push the file onto /system according to the location.
*Every file needed for above process is included in my attachment.

no prob ..glad i can help you..most of beginner like us forgot to backup before messed with the file..
So to change the splash screen of your android phone 1st you need to Set up ADB if you already haven't..
Set up ADB from Here:
http://droidination.wordpress.com/2012/02/01/how-to-set-up-adb/
Now after setting up the ADB you need to Follow these instructionsto change your splash screen:
1.First you need to copy a cmd.exe file to Heimdall’s Folder like this
2.Now put your phone into download mode and open the file ZADIG in the drivers folder.
3.Install The drivers now
4.Now open Cmd and type the foll command:
heimdall flash –param /location/of/param.lfs
5.Now your phone will be rebooted and you will see the Download mode logo instead of your orignal logo
6.Now create your own logo using Photoshop or any other Photo Editor and make sure its in the ratio 480×800..
7.put the logo file in the platform tools folder in android sdk..
8.Paste and open the cmd in the platform tools folder..
9.Put your phone in download mode and Connect it to the computer..
10.Type in the following command in the CMD window:
adb push Logo.jpg /mnt/.lfs
adb reboot
11.You Will Now see your logo file Instead of the orignal one..
You Can Check out the orignal Post from here:
http://droidination.wordpress.com/2...e-splash-screen-of-your-galaxy-s-easiest-way/
Click the thanks button if i helped..
so...can I just make a logo.jpg and put into mnt/.lfs by root explorer?
(btw, and its funny to see i9003 and docomo logos in .lfs file)
Yes 1st u have to make a logo.jpg of resolution 480*800 only..
u can make it using Photoshop..
Then just open terminal emulator in your GTi9000.. if u dont have it download it from the android market..
Copy the logo.jpg file in the root of your SDCARD..
and type the following command:
"cp /mnt/sdcard/logo.jpg /mnt/.lfs" [Without Quotations]
Reboot your phone now..
now you will see your logo.jpg file as the boot image/splash screen..
It would not replace it by root explorer.."
Yes i was also shocked to see the i9003 and docomo logos..
click the thanks button if i helped..
I just made the splash screen by removing samsung logo from the original
(hey samsung you have made a big enough logo on our phones! no need to put one on boot!)
saved as /mnt/sdcard/logo.jpg 800×480 of course
opened terminal emulator, typed
Code:
cp /mnt/sdcard/logo.jpg /mnt/.lfs
and get the following code without logo.jpg replaced
Code:
cp: can't create '/mnt/.lfs/logo.jpg': File exists
also tried copying with root explorer, but it also turns out to be the original image
(even deleteing the original and put new logo.jpg to /mnt/.lfs)
(of course I have a backup of original image)
will this be something wrong with busybox?
EDIT:it seems everything that gets into /.lfs can't be deleted by RE or terminal emulator. weird...
First u have to type su to enable superuser access then type that command..
make sure u have busybox installed..!! if not just download the terminal IDE app from market then do the same thing this will work 4 sure..!!
To be clear, I have root, busybox 1.19.3 , superuser permitted terminal IDE,
typed su this time but still no luck.
(and when I tried to rm a accidentally copied jpg from /mnt/.lfs , terminal IDE even says 'operation not permitted' . WHAT? I have already "su"ed!)
Doubt that I must go through download mode in order to write in movinand.
Anyway thanks for providing all the info on splash screen replacement. Cheers.

I second that. I am root and mounted /system as rw, it does not allow me to rm or even mv the /mnt/.lfs/logo.jpg to anywhere. Even root explorer cannot rename the default logo.jpg. Operation not permitted is the error I get. I am using gingerbread 2.3.6 GINGERBREAD.JPKPE build. Dont know if they added some second layer of protection...
I already rooted my kindle fire, downloaded android market I loggedin using a google account. After that I was unable to change the google account. Browsed web and I saw the post of the video. I followed the instructions in the video.
steps followed: using root explorer, went to /system/framework and renamed framework-res.apk and and after I completed the renaming, the device crashed (or I clicked something; hence crashed?) and stuck in blank carrousel page.
So, I rebooted and all I get now if boot logo of 'Kindle fire'. It doesnt go any forward.
I connected to PC and I am able to see the device in ADB. But no root access in shell. So, any adb command I give I get back errors like: no permission; read-only folder, etc.
When I use the Kindle fire utility v0.9.3 and try to do temp root or root, I get
Error type 2 android.util.AndroidException: Can't connect to activity manager; is the system running?
adbd cannot run as root in production builds
PC detects the device as 'Android Composite ADB interface'. But cant do anything in adb. I can push files to /data/local/tmp folder. Thats about it.
adb shell mount is not allowed
when I do
adb shell mv /system/framework/framework-res.apk.bak /system/framework/framework-res.apk
I get:
failed on '/system/framework/framework-res.apk.bak' - Read-only file system
Can someone help rename this file back to original framework-res.apk?
Thank you very much;

You should be able to mount the system r/w with the proper command, hopefully someone will be here soon to give you the commands.
do you have fff & twrp available ?
if yes boot to twrp - there you have full adb availabe and you can copy your backup framework-res to the kf
same thing happened to me,but I made it worse and the computer wouldn't even detect the KF.I had to return it.
Sorry): I know how it feels

Try using 'adb remount' then try to rename it again.
if you get the 'Read-only file system' error again:
adb reboot
adb remount
try again
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
I got tired of having to jump between a bunch of threads when setting up my Glowlight 3. So I'm consolidating directions into one post in the hopes that it'll save others time and trouble. Credit for instructions should go to the people who actually wrote them: arnchav of mobileread; RyogoNA, Silent eInk, cazar and Renate NST here on xda; and everyone who figured out the root exploit, sideloading, the devs behind Relaunch, RelaunchX and F-Droid. Material lifted from their original posts (linked at the bottom).
Now, this is going to walk you through doing a few things:
A) Setting up a progam called ADB on your computer so that it can talk to your NG3
B) Adding a "Launcher" app to your nook so that you can access other apps you sideload later
C) Root theNook so that you can do more stuff with the settings, including the ability to...
D) Fix a bug that, after installing a launcher, causes the NG3 to get stuck on the loading screen after rebooting
Before you start, you need to set up ADB on your computer. Follow the instructions linked here. The rest of this post will assume you're using Windows, but won't be hugely different from other OSs.
Here we go:
To set up ADB on your nook:
1. On your Nook, go to Settings>About. You should see the serial number, app version, etc. At the top of that page, there is a nook icon. Tap that icon rapidly until the developer menu opens.
2. Tap "Android Development Settings" and check the box for "USB debugging".
3. At the Developer options screen you are on (where you checked the box), hit the back arrow at the top-left of the screen to go back. But do not exit the developer menu.
4. On your computer, open a command prompt and navigate to the folder where you put adb (in my case I typed in "cd adb/platform-tools")
5. Plug the USB in to the nook. When the nook prompts you to turn on USB mode, do so. At the adb command prompt, type adb devices. ADB should recognize the nook, but say that it is unauthorized.
6. From windows, eject the nook to disconnect nook's file sharing. Once the nook's USB file sharing screen goes away, you should be able to see the developer menu again. Tap "Allow Debugging" one time! There will be no confirmation, just do it one time.
6. Unplug the USB, plug it back in, turn on USB mode when prompted. Back in the command prompt, type adb devices again. This time it should see the device and simply say "device" where it used to say "unauthorized". Congratulations! You can now install a launcher.
To install a launcher, like RelaunchX
1. Download your launcher apk of choice. If you don't know what to pick, try RelaunchX, and download the latest version from plusz's thread here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=284418 (n.b. To make things easy, ignore his suggestion to get it through F-Droid as you'll need a new launcher to use F-Droid in the first place. Just download the apk).
2. In Command prompt, type adb install <filelocation>, where filelocation is the complete address of the apk. If you have file explorer open, you can just type adb install then a space, then drag the file in to the terminal and it will copy the location for you. (Make sure again that there is a space between "install" and the path or it won't work).
3. ADB should do it's thing and you will get a "success" message in Terminal.
4. Eject the nook from the PC. Shortly after the connection is cut, a window should open on the nook allowing you to select either the nook launcher or your new launcher. If you use RelaunchX, you may get a warning that it wasn't built with this device in mind. You can ignore it, it works great on this device.
This is all great, except there's a bug in how B&N set up the device that only shows up if you install a new launcher. If you reboot the device, you'll be stuck on the boot animation until you do weird things like hold down the power button for a long time to pull up the reboot/power off options (only seems to sometimes work). To fix that, we actually have to disable, remove, or replace the boot animation file itself.
To root:
1. Download the modified Glowlight Plus script attached here ("rootGL3.zip" - almost identical to cazar's rooGLP-3 script package, but with one line changing the model number from 510 to 520)
1. Enable USB debugging in Developer options
2. Connect USB cable and make sure your nook is showing up in 'adb devices'
3. Extract rootGLP.zip and run rootnook.cmd (or rootnook.sh on linux)
To fix (read: disable) the buggy boot animation:
1. Connect your nook to the computer again
2. (windows) open a command prompt and and navigate to the folder that adb is in.
3. Enter the following commands, in order:
Code:
adb shell
su
mount -o remount, rw /system
mv /system/bin/bootanimation /system/bin/bootanimation.bak
reboot
OPTIONAL: To restore a working boot animation (steps above will replace broken boot animation with a black screen that goes away after a few seconds)
1. Download the attached zip
2. If it's not still connected, connect the Nook to the computer again and tap the button on the nook to turn on USB mode when prompted,
3. On your computer, open up the Nook in Explorer(/Finder/your file manager of choice). Open up the NOOK Folder if you see one.
4. Copy the file inside the zip (bootanimation) to that folder on the Nook.
5. Eject the nook (as in, in windows, click the option to safely remove it as a device) but keep it physically connected
6. Open a command prompt(/terminal/whatever you use for adb) and navigate to the folder that adb is in.
7. Enter the following commands:
Code:
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p5 /system
cp /storage/spsd/NOOK/bootanimation /system/bin/bootanimation
cd /system/bin
chmod 755 bootanimation
reboot
You now have a rooted Nook Glowlight 3 that'll boot into a launcher of your choice! You can now sideload apks of your choice using adb the same way you installed RelaunchX.
Have fun!

HELP! I DID THIS A LONG TIME AGO AND NOW MY NOOK GLOWLIGHT 3 IS STUCK ON THE LOADING SCREEN!
Don't worry, this is fixable. What's happened is that Barnes and Noble pushed out a system update that undid almost everything except that part that breaks the boot animation thing (specifically it overwrites the directory with everything that gives you root access and a working boot animation, but left your custom launcher in place).
All you have to do is re-do most of the steps above. Start from the "to root" step - even if the device is stuck on a boot animation, you should still be able to use adb. After redoing the steps, your GL3 should work normally again.
Unfortunately it looks like this is going to happen every time B&N pushes a system update, but that's not that often.
If someone knows a step-by-step way to replace the stock bootanimation with the 4.6 bootanimation file (zipped up and attached here, thanks to RyogoNA), let me know and I'll update the OP. I tried used adb shell to copy it to /system/bin/bootanimation, but I still just get a black screen on startup in its place.

Mmm, did the copy of bootanimation work?
Did you:
Code:
/system/bin # chmod 755 bootanimation
Tried that, but I got an error about a Read-only file system, even after using su. What's the basic thing I'm missing?

Got a private message pointing me to the command I was missing, apparently from a how-to page in Russian. For anyone else trying to do this, try:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p5 /system
cd /system/bin
chmod 755 bootanimation
Can't get adb devices to give autorhized access to ng3 w 4.9.2.24 os
First off thank you for doing this work, and I am excited to root my ng3!
In trying to follow your directions on rooting, I am hitting a snag. The os is not operating in the anticipated manner. When I do the usb unplug and replug and hit the usb debugging checkbox I can not get authorization.
Please help!
Thanks in advance!
Trouble with root
Hi,
Thanks for putting this all together. However, I'm having trouble with the root step.
You'll have to put the link together because as a new poster I can't post links.
Any help would be appreciated!

Hmm. Did you get authorization after following the directions under "To Set up ADB on your Nook"?

Ooh, that's exotic. I've never seen that before. Just going off the error text, you might need to find a newer version of adb somewhere online. Try that or try a different computer?
Adb is super stable for many years now, although it can fail to connect to your device properly for many reasons.
Can you reach developer menu navigating with nooks keys? I sometimes enable /disable /enable usb Debug, followed or preceded by revoking all PC's permissions. These are all standard options in android phones s system. menus. Rebooting nook may help too, and numerous times I've seen bad cables get in my way. Tip, just because a cable works with one device is not a guarantee it's working everywhere.
RE: STEP 6. "From windows, eject the nook to disconnect nook's file sharing."
Note:
1. The location of the eject menu is where you typically see "Safely remove hardware and eject media" in the windows taskbar.
2. After attempting to eject your Nook GLP, you may get a window that pops up that says "Windows can't stop [your device]" because a process is using it -- and you may not be able to track down which process is using it (for me, closing all windows and apps didn't help). If this is the case, hit "WINDOWS+X >> Shut down or Sign Out >> Sign out" -- then log back in. This *should* stop all processes and allow you to proceed to the next step (it did for me).
*My Nook GLP recently updated and I lost root. This also caused the startup animation to continue non-stop (but holding the power button and then selecting cancel from the options allowed me to select which launcher I wanted to use).
** Additionally, I had one other issue. My (windows) laptop wouldn't recognize my nook at all. Turns out it was the USB cable. So if you have that issue, try using a different USB cable -- preferably the one that came with your nook.
Missing epubs
So I followed the instructions, everything comes up great. I can sideload apps, I have a new launcher etc. But if I copy a file (epub or otherwise) into the NOOK folder on my PC and then browse to the NOOK folder using the file manager on the Nook reader, its empty. At first I thought it was an issue with the file manager, so I installed another one. Same thing.
When I load epubs into the NOOK folder and open the B&N launcher, it sees the books and adds them to my library. But for whatever reason I can not find where the epubs are using a file manager. I even tried using grep to search for the file I copied in adb shell but it doesn't come up with anything. Anyone know whats going on and how to fix it?
Never mind its under /storage/spsd/
mount: Operation not permitted
I get this error after typing in the mount -o ... command.
Any help apprecidated!
root file missing
Hey, @jptiger In the setup instructions the rootgl3.zip file is missing a link now... Does anyone have an active link to this file, or another working root process? I couldnt find one by searching online..
Misssing files
I rebooted my nook recently and it comes back up but when I got /storage/spsd/ its empty. When I attach my nook to my pc, I can see all my books. So I did the following:
Code:
adb shell
su
busybox find / -name "*.epub"
The only files that it shows are the sample epubs that come with the Nook. I am kind of stumped as to how the files show up when I browse the nook as a usb drive. But will not show up when browsing for them via the nook itself or adb. Any thoughts?

It looks like the flash memory on the Nook maybe going bad. There was a bunch of .chk files in the hidden LOST folder. Reformatting it and copying the books back to the nook seems to have fixed the problem for now. I may have to invest in the Kobo Clara HD in the future.

That's weird. I don't know why they took down the original attachment. I can't find it, but I've gotten the on from the NGP+ and modified it the way they did with the originals. It's attached to this post, give it a shot.
EDIT: I uploaded the version attached here to the OP, but with the original name. The two zips have the same contents.

adb can't access NOOK storage when it's still connected to PC. Eject the device under BNRV520 (should say "NOOK: (F" or similar), but do not disconnect. Then you can find files in both adb and later NOOK's file manager when you disconnect. (should be under /storage/spsd/)
Guide is great though. Thank you all so much! Fast and easy! (unlike making a B&N account)
btw, I had to run "adb shell su" instead of 'adb shell' -> 'su' to get su priviledge, so maybe try that.
what is the adb command to manually launch relaunchx? the launcher option stopped working, and i can't get it to run at all.
Happy to report that the excellent instructions work great on the new 7.8" Glowlight Plus that got released yesterday. Change the model number to BNRV700 in the rootnook.cmd file and you're good to go!
