[Q] Contact Ringtones being over-ridden by Custom Default Ringtone! - G2 and Desire Z General

Hi Guys,
I am new to android and new to smartphones in general, although i am familiar with computers and how operating systems work etc.
My question is this: Why, when i set an MP3 file as a default ringtone for all contacts, and then try to set a different MP3 file as a Contacts Ringtone, e.g. my Dad, the default ringtone plays when he phones me, not the contact specific ringtone i have set for him?
This is really annoying me and i would appreciate it if anyone can shed any light on this,
Thanks in advance,
Craig Williams

i see the date on your question...no answer still...
I have the same problem. I have an mp3 in my phone, i trimmed it and set is as my default ringtone. Put my phone to charge, unplugged it and someone called me a few time after, the ringtone was "quietly brilliant" and no longer my trimmed song. What happened, how can we stop this ringtone switch?

Just Normal Ringtones

Hi everybody, does anyone know where i can download normal ringtones for my XDAII.
Not a fan of mp3 ringtones/music or the top 40 etc etc, just normal phone sounds that you would find on your normal mobile phones for either ringtone or sms tones.
Your replies are very very welcome
an mp3 or wav or wma can be anything a recording of a "normal" ring tone a guy yelling for you to pick up the phone
you can use any thing you like
midi is prob the media which comes closest to polyphonic ring tones
but there is no type which is used for the "normal" ringtones
Basic normal ringtone

Sound Settings software bug in WM5?

Hi guys...
i've been experiencing a few software problems on the phone. can you check this out for me...
I have all my sounds set to different ring tones.. ie. phone ring is dog bark. reminder is alarm 3. new message is something else..etc.
Everything remains fine... until a reminder goes off for an appointment
Whenever i make an appointmentwith a reminder and it then goes off, it plays the pre-installed default sound instead of the one i've chosen. What it also does...is it then resets ALL of my sound settings including my phone ring, my new SMS sent, my wake up alarms to the original default sounds. WTF?
After 7 hours of trying different things..I've narrowed it down to the reminders. so.. no reminders = i keep my sound settings...and i can't stand the preset bank of sounds the TYTN came with. grr.
Can you verify that for me please? is it a software bug? I'm in montreal this week getting married (YAY) and so i'm going to be away from my machine and cant afford to do a hard reset and lose all my contacts).
Thanks In Advance
Cheers.
SINC
PS.
Also, anyway to set all sounds to go to the storage/my documents/my music folder instead of the internal windows "ring" folder? i'd love to know how to edit this in the registry (i'm sure it can be done), and use this folder for all my reminder/alarm/msg/ring sounds...Its just I have no experience in hacking the registry or know where to begin looking.
thanks

Ring tone Dilema

Hi All,
The ring tone on my M700 seems to cut out after 2 seconds..... The vibrate will still continue but the sound stops.
I have tried different ring tomes including the default wavs and it happens to those too.
I'm not using MP3's as ring tones and the RingTone0 script is correctly set "avpw0r" in the registry.
Anyone seen this before ?
It did work fine untill i flashed WM5 back after trying Mun's WM6.

sorry nogs - i assume that the tone you are using is longer (eg., when played with windows media player), than what you are hearing when it rings...?
also, sorry to be slightly O.T, but how did you set your ring tone to use an MP3? can you do the same with notification tones such as for a new text message?
Hi,
Yea the tone is about 30 seconds long and plays fine if you go through the phone option in system.
The above post says i'm using wavs for ring tones, not MP3's. You cant assign MP3's to SMS notifications. I may be wrong there as there may be 3rd party apps that allow you to do this pocket phone ZEN may be one of them.
Anyways i think it may have something to do with MS Voice Commander trying to announce the callers name but failing.

All notification sounds randomly resetting?

After the last official update something weird started happening to my phone. After random periods of time (1 - 5 days) all my ringtones and notifications sounds for all the applications seem to change by themselves.
Gmail will have no sound selected, Gtalk will pick one random MP3 file from my music folder, alarms will get the "Beep" sound, SMS/reminders will get a different (default?) sound, contacts that had custom ringtones will get the default ringtone, and the default ringtone for all contacts is changed too.
It's a little annoying, I can set everything back the way it was quite fast, but something else happens: for a few contacts only (random each time) I cannot change the ringtone anymore. The default one is set, I choose another one, but the new ringtone isn't applied. The only way to change the ringtone is to erase the contact and create it again (or sync from outlook to have it back).
Anyone else got this problem? I guess a hard reset will solve it, but I'm too lazy to install everything again etc.
I still have this problem. From time to time, all my notification shouds (alarm, message, ringtone, custom ringtones, everything) will change to random mp3s from my alarm/notification/ringtone or music folder.
It's not related to USB cable / SD mass storage mounting, I rarely use that. It usually happens in the background while I'm not even using the phone. Suddenly, it will e.g. start playing a whole mp3 track from may music folder when I receive an email.
Anyone else getting this stupid issue? I found a lot of people complaining in other threads and other forums, but no solution. I hate having to set my custom tones again and again...
HTC Desire HD too
My HTC Desire HD is also playing random mp3s with notifications. Not mail, that remains the same. But calendar and SMS all play mp3s. I can't seem to fix it. The notification settings still say it's meant to be playing a standard ringtone, but nope, mp3 it is.
Anyone figured out a fix?
I don't know if it helps, but I renamed my "Music" folder (that's where I had all .mp3 files that would randomly become ringtones) to something else and also removed the HTC Music widget from homescreen. Sometimes the ringtones will revert to HTC default and stay that way after I connect to USB mass storage / disconnect, but a phone reset will solve that.

[Q] Phone won't save "None" Ringtone - reverts to Default

I have a stock Nexus 4, currently with Android 4.2.2. I haven't yet installed the new update.
One of my Contacts is "Block," to which I add incoming calls that I want to block, such as telemarketers. When I set it up, I changed the ringtone for that contact to "None," so that it would not ring, or rather, that I would not hear the ring.
Today I learned that the device will not save "None" as a ringtone choice. I change the ringtone to None and click OK, but when I check the ringtone again, it has reverted to the default.
When I tested the function by changing the ringtone to the next option on the list, "Andromeda," it retained that setting. The problem appears to be isolated only to the ringtone "None."
I would appreciate any suggestions how to get it to save that ringtone, or alternately, how else to banish unwanted callers. Many thanks.
Maybe create a custom ringtone with nothing but silence, copy it your phone, and use that as a default for the blocked calls?

Thanks. I was thinking of a version of that - creating a silent custom ringtone and renaming it to one of the ringtones that functions (like Andromeda or whatever), which I don't use anyway. I think I'll try your way first.
There's always the coward's way out - if I get too frustrated I'm just going to reset everything to factory default and start adding apps again slowly.
Thanks! Season's greetings :good:

HI,
Can you just send that person or entry straight to voicemail instead of worring about the ringtone? Usually telemarketers wont leave voicemail.
