Hear reports that the new its update giveaway the 100% CPU usage problem back even with debugging on. Is this true?

Seems to do the trick for me! (so far anyways!)
had the same 100% cpu after OTA problem, tried almost everything im aware of (ending some tasks, reboots, unistalling apps) but nothing helped me,ended up with factory reseting twice and i got it solved for now.
been monitoring using system pannel and now its more stable.
No such issue for me with the update once everything completed syncing.

Got this same problem now after update... constant 100% cpu usage, from watchtower it looks like its app called settings storage thats eating cpu time....
yeah for me it's com.android.providers.setings which is killing my battery.

Guess i'm lucky, killed my battery in 6 and half hours
I just went into stock application manager, force stopped everything i wasnt interested in (sense, friendstream, facebook, stocks, etc). My cpu useage dropped from 100% to more typical 3 to 20% and has been fine since.
As i stopped so many applications i dont know which was the culprit.

Sorry for basic question but how do you get CPU use %?

ImmediateModeService
I have killed the "ImmediateModeService" and now the CPU time is normal.
Which app is this? Someone has a solution for this error? Because always when i restart my DHD the same error comes back.

Me too! just went to settings - accounts and sync - htc sense - remove account.
CPU was back down to under 20%. Added htc sense again and still got nice low CPU usage.... sense still doesnt work to make the phone ring or find its location but happy that the phone works properly again.
Glad I got that sorted, thanks for the tip!!
It worked for me too. Thanks a lot gays.

I can confirm the 100% cpu problem has not returned for me. I suspect that the update did not take into account the current sync status variables. If your phone was in a certain sync state when the ota applied it got stuck in a loop. Force stopping clears all temporary variables so returns the phone to the environment in which htc tested the update. So...the problem should not teturn if u force stop the right app. Similarly a hard reset should do the trick.

I have a luncher pro installed. I selected as my default home screen app, it was working fine. Recently every time i press home button i get a window asking me to select default home screen application. It does that at random, even though i checked the box before selecting launcher pro.
You could try clearing the defaults, then set it again. Under Settings - Applications - Manage Applications, find all the launchers and use the Clear data option for each.
Does this happen mainly after a reset? Do you have a app killer? Something that auto clears your caches?

ATK's are BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD DO NOT USE THEM. 2.2 has them built them into the OS. this has been discussed numerous times.
That is most likely your problem, and you'll notice your battery life will go up as well.
cleaning the cache as nothing to do with. for it to ask you to use the phone is sutting down lancher pro, and removing the default settings, then it's starting back up on your own and since the phone doesn't know what launcher you want to use by default it's going to ask you.
I do have ATK, plus Process Manager. I will get rid of ATK see if it will fix the issue.

android phones are built off the linux shell.
Linux in nature are multitasking MONSTERS. when you are not using them they are setting dormant not using the processor and not using any resources. Applications in Linux will not run unless you tell them to. From reading the android market it looks like that app isn't running 24/7. But the ATK are constantly running looking for applications to kill, thus killing your battery in the process... On older 1.5 and 1.6 android and lower end units rocking 2.1 ATKs were acceptable, but not recommended, but on newer 2.2 and 2.3 units ATKs are not good.
Well I got rid of ATK, now left with Process Manager and SetCpu. Are you saying that I should get rid of those two as well?

no, i'm not saying that in the least a-lot of people use set CPU, that just manages your CPU.
And Processor manager looks like it doesn't run 24/7. You can keep it, i just wouldn't use it unless you have to.
Thanks. We'll see how it goes with just those two running.

Is there an official list of what has changed, been fixed and improved?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
- added an "auto enhance" feature to the camera. not sure what it does yet, looks like it boosts the contrast and saturation a tiny bit.
- added a quick settings menu to the drop down bar.
- added a "tell HTC" error reporting feature. looks much like windows error reporting. can be disabled in the settings>about phone menu.
- changed the way the app menu scrolls. now scrolls a page at a time instead of smooth. RSI inducing when you scroll fast, but easier to find stuff.
- screen looks better to me, not sure why though.
- camera quicker to focus in low light.
- gallery is faster
Im seeing a difference in camera quality for the worse.
Auto enhance seems like its a fith wheel as you can acheive the same or better quality through adjusting some of the settings.
Has the text message app been fixed?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Text message app seems to be working fine now.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
also added:
new power control widgets. they look awesome! go to widgets> all htc widgets and scroll to about 50 out of 77.
I have also noticed the sound quality has improved on the video camera.. i can now actually hear things when playing back a video.. before i just got an awful low muffed sound. Anyone else noticed the improvement?.
The new scolling is a bit of a pain if you have alot of apps installed but if you change the view to list mode you can scroll down the list as before without the stopping and starting.
The speaker also seems a bit louder.
My texting has been fixed (was stuck on the buggy 1.74 for months!!)
My wifi is fine (although alot of people are reporting theirs has either got worse or no wifi connection at all)
Weather app now has sound on it
The phone seems alot more smoother too.
I'm running my HD on the stock rom and radio (unbranded on vodafone) with official update (2.36.405.8)
Not tested the GPS yet.. been raining here so i'LL wait till it clears up before giving it a whirl.
Battery on mine seems slightly better.
Improved the application management menus, seems to stop the running apps alot quicker than before.
Personally i'm loving this phone again.
In previous stock ROMs, pressing the search button on the home screen brought up the HTC Search application. Now, Google Search is used.
Not sure if this change was introduced with GB, or it was made earlier and I didn't notice, but... Gmail app now has copy/paste
However, still not possible to save attachments
Sound effects on weather widget, also clock and Facebook widget.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I noticed all the above plus better battery stats graph, and better manage apps menu. Also as stated about the Facebook widget/app they finally fixed it from before when you would load the app, click on something, and then back out, it used to make the thumbnail pictures disappear to a white box, but now they stay.
Can now enter title and middle name in People app....
And can paste number into the dialer - this is a particularly helpful addition for me.

One other change that I'm NOT liking, is the unread count dissapears from the sms and HTC Mail widget once you have gone into the app, even if you don't read anything and come out anything. No longer displays any count.

Found also that with the HTC mail app, when I get Outlook meeting invites now I can see the proposed time and date etc before accepting. Sooooo needed was that as I had no idea if I could actually attend or not when clicking ok.
Can also see my Gmail IMAP account in the HTC mail app listed in accounts now whereas before the only way to get to its settings was through the mail app itself.
Don't use GMail itself due to the horrible interface. Never gotten on with it.
Found that if you want to move an icon too on a full screen you can - drag it over another icon and they swap places. Unsure if that's a new one but I remember on my Desire you had to remove an icon first to make room then re-add. Even Nokia had that one covered with crummy Symbian.
Compared to 1.72 also it doesn't crash, at all. The older version used to just reboot itself all the time, in my pocket, on the table - properly got on my t1ts. Made me regret going from 1.32 to that horrible ROM.
I've also found that videos I could not play before that I'd recorded now play. God knows what was going on there but the update seems to have sorted that.
App management is faster - gives you a list of what's installed almost straight away, icons and all whereas before it would sit there calculating for ages.
The volume is noticably louder too on ringtones and notifications. Again was much needed as it was so quiet before.
All in all I'm pleased - the only thing I've found is when the phone is fighting for signal it EATS the battery with dialer jumping right up in the usage stakes. I think it's a mobile data thing - turn that off or switch to GSM only and it's happy.
While recording the video you can zoom in or zoom out even during recording. Earlier this was not possible and you could only focus while recording.
Also after restarting the phone, the duration of being run on battery, in the Battery use does not reset, while earlier it used to reset with each phone switch off.
here are some highlights

Thats always been like that has it not? A little tip though, if you are search for an app then open the app drawer and then hit the search button so it specifically searches through your apps only.
So if you know whatever your looking for is only going to be in a certain area hit the search button after you get there. I don't know if that's new or not but i just found it and it is very helpful rather then searching the whole phone.
Hello guys. I've been playing around with Jelly bean official, deleting some apps, adding other apps, and together with members on this page we were able to find some bugs and some workarounds. Well, i have some suggestions so that you guys can improve on speed (at least seemed to have worked for me ).
1) Download from Play Store app: Android Tuner (link for freeversion, has less options), Titanium backup, Gemini app
2) At Android Tuner, Go to Main Menu then again on the option One-Click (with the blue android) and it'll appear 2 options. One wich says One-click reset (it'll put all the buttons blue with on), and the other ont wich says "on boot" . Click on both, Leave the last one unchecked (it is not necessary to constantly do this, you can do it manualy later.
3) On same page, at the top wich says "build" click on it. Below you'll find a option wich says Presets, click and then Apply all presets. (later search for debug.sf.nobootanimation (click on the red cross, to remove it in orther to keep )
4)SysCtl, click at Recommended, the app will calculate for your phone automaticaly then click on boot so that it'll boot always with same configuration. (we can test this later, other configurations suggested by the users)
5) on the tab, scroll to your left untill you find the option SD, select cache size :2048 then click "on boot)
6) Slide again to the option OOM, and basicacly is setting same configuration as we use on Maximum Overdrive to max usage of RAM :
Select light preset
Then click on boot.
7) Using this app or titanium backup freeze or remove:
Samsung Push notification app
Email.apk
ExchangeServer.apk
8) Using Germini app ,click Menu then expert mode search for the following apps: Maps.apk, talk.apk, select each of them, select configure autorun, then press menu, and Disable app. (The app will still work, but use less the CPU usage, leaving free for other apps).
9) Go back to Android Tuner and On the main menu running click on One-Click (with a toolbox) -> Manage and it'll appear 5 options , click 1 by 1 on each.
10) reeboot
Optional: 11) Remove all live wall papers or convert to user apps, and free till 130 MB memory, using titanium backup, press menu then integrate dalvikcache.
12)Convert database to WAL(faster database).
13)On Android Tuner run again Defrag registry
Now you should have a much smoother experience.
I've tested this with Wanamlite wich is free of bloatware.
I hope this helps to get a better experience.
Note: In touchwiz launcher, when you create a folder at the menu, and you insert there your apps, if after a reeboot for some reason the apps are not there it is because you have your apps instaled on your SD card, go to app manager, select the app and move to Internel SD Card, and it is solved.

For now no. I've made this guide more and less three days after testing. Never has issues. Seems to be working great and fast battery life, With wifi off and power save on. Had an estimated of 7 hours screen watching a movie. When I can test ill share the results. But if someone could test this would be great. Once I had 2 hours and 30 min of display use and still was 78%.

Hello!
Something I've noticed while using my old Nexus S while im waiting for Nexus 5
Go in Developer settings > Background process limit (all the way down)

It will speed up your phone more than you can think without affecting performance.

It re-loads cache whenever i open up an app i previously opened. Like in messaging app, all contact icons won't get preloaded.
doesn't seems to have any impact at all on my Nexus S.
Yeah I am waiting for my Nexus 5 also!
This setting can only help you if you use memory-intensive apps, with the cost that most apps will start slower than before and also the background processes started by the apps can be killed more easily which is not always a desirable thing. Reducing the number of concurrent processes from the default can lead to unwanted consequences. These preferences aren't in the developer options by mistake, I would not fiddle with them if I don't have a valid reason. And "try this stuff, maybe it sppeds up your phone, maybe not" is definitely not one.
Eh, as i use my nexus s as an mp3 player it definitely helps run a lot smoother

Yes you can, but it will cost you some CPU processing. I find my device more responsive in airplane mode where it does not need to handle the connections. If somebody does not use these functions it's worth a try before fiddling with some random setting from the bottom of the Development menu.
