[Q] ERROR 170 - USB Connection Error on T-Mobile RUU - Wildfire General

I'm having a problem when I'm trying to return to the stock firmware and unroot. It will stick on 'Verifying information on your Android phone. Please wait...' then go to 'ERROR [170]: USB Connection Error'.
The weird thing is it only does this on my stock RUU - RUU_Buzz_TMO_UK_1.14.110.1_Radio_13.45.55.24_3.35.15.19_release_130442_signed.exe
and it works fine on all the other RUUs.
Is there an other way to install the stock firmware and unroot?
Thanks.

Have you put your phone into recovery the connected via USB that way

Yeah, I do everything the same as the HTC RUUs (tried putting it in recovery - same thing). It's just the T-Mobile UK one that's being stupid.

Is there anyone who knows how to flash the stock T-Mobile UK without the RUU?

Reverting back to original ROM from T-Mobile's website?

I'm not new to flashing custom ROMs from this website, but I've never gone back to stock before on the HD2. Are there any steps I need to take to reflash the ROM from T-Mobile's website (the RUU .exe file), or can I just flash it as if it were any other ROM, through Windows Mobile Device Center?
Right just do a normal flash, once you download the update connect your phone n flash..that's it..and if you want to return the phone for warranty remember to also flash spl.. to make it stock

Excellent, thanks for the response. This is what I did with my Dash 3G and it worked fine, so I just wanted to make sure everything worked the same on this phone.

[Solved][Q] Help needed for Nandroid Restore...

Hi,
Posting a new thread since I could not find any thread that could address my issue. If there is one, pls point me to it.
I have a GSM Hero. I flashed Froydvillain 1.7.2 ROM on it. However, for some reasons, I want to go back to stock 2.1 HTC ROM.
After rooting the phone, I had created a backup with Nandroid. However, when I try to restore it using Nandroid, I get following msg -
.android_secure.img not found Skipping restore of applications on external storage', and then also something about skipping restore of /sd-ext
After this, it says restore complete.
When I reboot, I am stuck on the Airtel screen (HTC India). Can not go past it.
Can anybody tell a way to load stock 2.1 ROM?
Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure, but it could be a missing file leading to a corrupted backup. If that is the case you can either get a stock 2.1 rom in zip form
(like this one for exemple http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714075) or you could un-root by running a RUU (rom update utility) and remove the patched recovery image, in effect restoring your phone to factory condition.
There's a decent guide on how to do that here.
Hi,
Thanks for reply.
I actually prefer theunloackr.com method of unrooting. However, the problem is that since I am having a Froydvillain ROM, I can't use HTC Sync with it. So, can not use the RUU.
I think first installing the zipped generic OTA you mentioned and then using theunlockr.com method will do the thing for me. Isn't it?
Are there any other zipped RUU?
Thanks again
Just boot your phone into bootloader, plug it into your computer, and make sure it is on hboot-mode (it shows HBOOT on the screen) then go into Device Manager on Windows and look for "Android USB Devices" - if the device under there is named "My HTC" then everything is fine and you can start the RUU.exe, but if it's not you will have to update the driver with the one installed with HTC Sync (probably located in C:\Program Files\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\(Your OS here)\ ) then it should be named "My HTC" and you should be able to go on

I hope you can imagine the feeling of relief...
The Android USB device listed is indeed 'My Hero' so I hope it is completely safe to go ahead with RUU....
I have downloaded India RUU from some site...however can you tell me where can find authentic RUU?
Thanks again...
There has to be a thread with all the roms for the hero... including the official ruu. Also, you could try the xda wiki.

Is it Generic HTC or is it branded in any way? If it's branded you will find it at your carriers homepage (hopefully). If it's generic you will find it on htc.com

I usually go here: http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Hero
They are all authentic and if one isn't compatible with your phone it should just say so (though the latest one with asia in the name should probably work).
Thanks
Hello all,
The issue is solved now.
I am back to the stock ROM.
I found that the method suggested by mljjlm worked perfectly for me.
The issue I faced was: Going back to stock HTC Hero 2.1 ROM from a rooted, Froydvillain 1.7.2 ROM
1. I had already downloaded appropriate RUU from following link -
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Hero
2. I followed confirmatory steps suggested by mljjlm in the post above
3. Just plugged in Hero to PC via USB cable, and ran the RUU. This pdf from HTC website tells more about running RUU (for a different device, but same procedure) http://www.htc.com/uploadedFiles/Co.../Touch_Detailed_RUU_Instructions_07152008.pdf
That's it.
Thanks all for help.

Help please

Hi,
I downgraded my htc desire hd and attempted to root through visionary+ tool…i did the following
Downgraded to official firmware PD98IMG.zip
All was working fine
I installed visionary+ and temp rooted
i then attempted to perm rooted, my phone restarted and then got stuck at the htc logo screen….
I have tried reflasing the official firmware but it keeps getting stuck on the htc logo screen. Any help? Thanks
Can you boot directly to the bootloader? Vol down + Power.
Yep i can get there, however when i click recovery from there it goes straight to the htc logo screen..and if i place the rom on the sd card it flashes the phone but when it reboots it gets stuck once again
In that case download the 1.32.~ RUU.exe and run that.
Hi, I am new to rooting and have only got as far as downgrading my firmware...what do you mean by download the 1.32 ruu.exe? Sorry
If you click the link in my sig and head to RUU's, you'll find 1.32.405.6 download that and run the exe. It will reflash your phone for you, just follow the prompts.
What state does my phone need to be in before running the exe? Also currently my laptop running windows 7 does not recognise my phone, i have htc sync 3.0 installed but it still doesnt recognise it....
Switched on is enough for the exe. You need to have the correct drivers for it to work.
Is your windows 7 machine 64bit?
No i am not using windows 7 64bit...i was able to connect to my desire hd via htc sync before all these issues however
Ok, I'm running out of idea's. I don't think the .exe will work until you handset is on.
Do you have the Android SDK installed on your machine?
Hi yes i have it installed...i think it is looking for android 1.0 driver but it cant find it and i cant find it on there internet...
Mine also does that whilst in the bootloader, once I'm in fastboot I'm ok.
Do you still have ENG S-OFF?
I got it to connect....i am now running the ruu....will update when it is done. Thank you so much for your help so far...
I just ran the ruu...i think it is stuck at the htc logo screen once again..its been there for about 10mins???
That's not good. I'm guessing that the PD98IMG.zip nuked your S-OFF?
Accoring to the bootloader menu it says s-on...
Ok, not sure how to progress here. Your DHD has a fault somewhere, as the PD98IMG.zip should work without any problems. Kinda like a fail-safe.
Other than contacting your network/HTC for a repair which should happen (S-ON etc...) you could try the latest Gingerbread RUU. You just have to extract the ROM.zip first (that's very easy).
Just to make sure...
i downloaded the ruu from you sig...
connected my desire hd
ran the ruu
it finished and my phone was flashed
is that right?
Is the latst gingerbread ruu for the desire hd on your site?
Yeah its on there. I'd recommend getting a repair over flashing it though.
I don't meet your problem, but I just did it yesterday with a golden card, so if you don't know what to do maybe you can try that.

Is my Hero bricked? What should I do?

Hello everyone!
First off I'd like to start by telling you I'm new here and I don't know much about rooting so I'm reffering to you for help... Here is what happened... I have a G2 Hero, running android 2.1. So one day I decided to root it and install a custom rom. I downloaded Universal Androot-1.6.2-beta5 and ran it on my mobile.
Afterwards I formatted my sd card then restarted the device and downloaded rom manager from the market and flashed Clockwork. After this I put CyanogenMod-6.1.0-RC1 in the root dir of my sd card, tried to install it from [HOME] + [PWR] buttons menu and an error saying [status 7] showed up... Now im stuck in an endless bootloop... I cannot sync the device with my computer, cannot hard reset.. I can access Hboot menu but there isnt anything I can do...
What should I do to restore it to stock and then try the whole thing again but with a new rom? Thanks in advance!
Anyone?
Have you tried running an official HTC RUU? They can be found in a thread on the development page
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
you have to search for "RUU for htc hero gsm". There's an official website for that. Download RUU (about 80-90mbytes as i remember) and start it. As i remember you should power your phone in HBOOT mode (VOL DOWN + POWER), connct to PC and run RUU and follow the wizard.
It will flash stock 1.5 android.
After reeboot it should inform you that there's an update, but if you want to flash different recovery, you shouldn't update your phone.
Then you should follow "How To - Root Your HTC Hero in One Click" (can't post links yet).
Ok first of all thank you guys for the help! So I downloaded RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.66_WWE_test_signed_NoDri ver.exe from the main thread. At first I had some connection problems but then I switched the front panel USB to one of the rear which are 2.0 and continued. Now I'm stuck at a later step. Tried to update it but an error message saying "ERROR[131]: CUSTOMER ID ERROR Please get the correct ROM UPDATE UTILITY and try again" displays. Which RUU would you recommend?
I used official RUU from htc.com site. It just worked for me.
This one is in Polish, but i believe, you will find one in your language or in English
http://www.htc.com/pl/supportdownload.aspx?p_id=283&cat=2&dl_id=671
//edit
You must provide a valid serial number from sticker behind the battery and select a corresponding file. It will be only one i think
//edit2
There's something more about this error 131:
http://androidforums.com/707610-post16.html
Apparently you just used wrong RUU... Try one from prev link.
Ok, soI downloaded RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver from the official HTC website and go past last error but afterwards I encounter another one. This time it is "ERROR[140] BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR, Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again"
Any suggestions this time?

You could try the carrier one if you got it from Orange flash the ruu which is for Orange uk
Nope, my phone is from Europe but I dont think I got my cd... I'll sure search for it. Any other suggestions?
Maybe you can find a workaround there:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=684504
I am currently trying with this one:RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.38_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver. But it seems to be stuck on "Sending.....Updating the ROM image on your Android phone" The progress bar on the phone's display is almost complete but wont move anymore. I have waited for 20 minutes now...
EDIT: I finally fixed it! I didn't realise I had to have the same RUU version like my software version. Thought I had to downgrade. Nevermind it's all OK now and it's time to try the whole rooting and custom ROM process again
I want to thank all of you guys that helped me!
Good for you man
Just out of pure couriosity, what rom will U use afrer your phone get rooted?
You have to use your carrier related stock rom/exe. What is your carrier?

[Q] problems with unrooting

Dear xda forum users,
I've been trying to unroot my desire z with cyanogen mod 7.1.0, because it has a faulty touch screen and I need to send it in to be repaired. I followed the unrooting instructions on the wiki http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision
This seems to have worked, unfortunately I did not consider that this would leave me with the stock google android that the Desire Z is shipped with in the US. I got my phone in Switzerland so I need to revert to stock Sense.
I tried using the RUUs on http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Vision
versions
RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.34.405.5_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155556_signed.exe
and
RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.2_Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_release_160660_signed.exe
but I always just get the error the HTC programme can't connect to the phone via USB. I can mount the phone and all that, so the USB connection can't really be the problem.
I also tried rerooting and manually installing sense roms, but now when ever I install a new rom, the install seems to work but the phone won't boot anymore. The only way of rescuing the phone from that state (that I found at least) was reinstalling the stock anroid rom I was trying to get away from.
Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong?
