Stumbled on how to not Use Sense Ui on 2.1

Turns out that the release has no native launcher. I installed an app called Launcher Pro Beta and now when you hit the home the option to use either is there..

You could do that. Or...
If you don't use Launch pro beta, you can do this:
*On the phone
1. Menu
2. Settings
3. Applications
4. Manage Applications
5. Find HTC Sense
6. Clear Defaults and Force Stop
7. Click "OK" to confirm
8. Then hit the Home button; you'll get an option for Home (Vanilla launcher) or HTC Sense (Roise/Espresso) and which one you want to make your default.
Enjoy.

Ya I tried that, But Sense kept restarting. For some reason there is no native launcher to switch to on 2.1. Maybe i'm missing something Thanx

you are correct, there is no "vanilla" android launcher on the 2.1 for hero

By "Vanilla", I meant this -- Notice the grey launcher:

In 2.1 -- you'll get the "Nexus" Launcher; which looks like a cube. Both of these are considered: "Vanilla" -- that is, they are natively part of Android and not altered by a the phone's manufacturer. (e.g. HTC Sense)

apparently htc decided to be douchey and not include it, is there anyway this can be ripped off something else and loaded as an apk

Grab Aloysius's ROM and pull the launcher.apk and use it as the alternate for HTC Sense; a.k.a Roise.

[Off-and-on lurker, first post. Hi all, and thanks for all the great information!]
I ran into this as well, and ended up trying both Helix and LauncherPro. However, I ended up having to get rid of them and going back to SenseUI because they were absolutely sapping my battery life. Anyone else have this issue, or any idea what the problem might be? I made sure to force close Sense and anything else that I knew I wouldn't be running under the alternate launcher first, but the problem persisted.

0.4.4 is out. market has a problem so grab the apk from www.launcherpro.com

I think that this is the best launcher replacement by far. Very smooth and light.

I love this launcher as well.
I have a stupid question however. They talk about "drawers" a lot...what is this feature?

I prefer Launcher Pro to the other apps I have tried like Helix, ADW - loving the amount of customisation you can do with it and how snappy it is as well.
As for a 'drawer' well thats the part you pull up where all your apps are found

Is that all? Why do they make it sound like such a huge feature? I have been looking for a widget or setting and found nothing.

Can someone tell me how to change the icons on the dock. I know if you hold on them you get a very specific list of things you can put on their but gmail and the calendar arent even ones you can pick. I like those on my dock. is that possible??

Just pick "Applications" from the menu that comes up when you long press an icon and it'll bring up a second menu with a list of your installed apps

it is beautiful widgets and the widget is beautiful home

I've tryed many launchers, but Launcher Pro is the fastest one. Helix1 is a little slower.

WEATHER WIDGET DONATE. i think that skin was black swirls or swirly, something like that.
I prefer to to beautiful widgets.

fancy widget is really nice too.

Froyo Bugs
Has anyone else encountered the problem of not being able to install custom icons? It fc's
Also, LauncherPro on Froyo has an app2sd problem that sd apps do not load until LauncherPro is restarted.
I was thinking about using the Script Scheduler I found on this site to kill then restart LauncherPro at every boot, but my bash skills are woefully inadequate. Anyone think they can give me a hand?

Go to appilcations. It takes a while to load, but you can place any app there.

best Launcher! fast and lots of customization. even though i've been experiencing a few FC's now and then. :|

Launcher 2 is the default android homescreen that debuted with 2.0.
This launcher 2 has 7 homescreens instead of froyos 5.

this is because this rom is stock froyo based rom , not sense rom if any one can extract the stock froyo dialer , it will fix this issue

You cant just add the stock froyo dialer to a sense build because its embedded in sense frameworks

How is the voice mail volume with this google voice version? The current market version is horrible on my samsung captivate.

working great on my Nexus One with MCR r21.

Will this work on non froyo roms ? tried to install on my captivate but it didnt show up in the widgets.

I would also like to know if these widgets work in non froyo roms

Formatting on the inbox widget is a little off on my LauncherPro Cyanogen 6 myTouch. Other than that, it works great! Thanks!

I installed the new google voice and widgets on my stock Droid X(2.1) and they are both working fine.

Just downloaded it and sideloaded it on my Captivate, and it works good. Got the widgets and all. I wonder why they aren't showing up on yours.

I figured it out, you have to uninstall the original google voice before installing the new one.

[Q] Some stuff from 2.1 in CM7?

Well I recently rooted my wildfire to CM7 and was disappointed to find a few things missing:
Firstly the agenda and and calender widgets (the one that has the full agenda on a screen, and the other showed a whole month on the screen) these have been invaluable to my productivity, and I have scoured the market place and can't find anything close to them, does anybody know how to get them back?
And finally, is it possible to get the old camera app back? the new one has this stupid frame around it (feel like I'm using my S310 again...) I can't find any apps that adequately replace the camera either

You are talking about Sense apps, which are impossible to have in CM7 because it is AOSP based (without Sense). There is no way to have what you ask.

A great full screen calendar widget is the one included in Launcher Pro, paid version.
As for a great camera replacement app, I recomend searching the apps area of this forum for the MIUI camera app. Ignore the MIUI gallery, it`s crap. Get QUickPic instead.

Great! I was looking for an alternative camera after installing the 7.0.2 cyanogenmod. I hate the borders around that camera app.

go for android widgets. they will work both on SENSE and AOSP based roms.
sense widgets (htc) work only on sense roms.

Definitely! QuickPic even over Sense gallery, (which I have too but QuickPic is MUCH faster!

Is there a way to modify the UI of the new Gmail app for tablets? I liked it before when I had my labels and inbox shown at the same time. Instead of looking like:

Just download the new apk of gmail 4.5 and it will look way better.

This is 4.5. It's since this update it looks rubbish.

You're not using the tablet interface for some reason, that's the phone interface with the slide out drawer. I would guess it's a problem with your ROM.

I'm running the latest PA ROM and the gmail app never had any problem before the 4.5 update.

I had this on the latest Paranoid Android rom as well. I fixed it by going to gmail hybrid properties and clicking reset in the top right hand corner, maybe give that a try?

Already tried that. Sadly no luck...

I had this ussue with the Play Store on another hybrid engine ROM but it fixed itself and I've no clue how

This definitely seems to be a ROM issue; newest Gmail has that out for my by default on my Nexus 10 (CarbonROM).
