My Galaxy TAB is running P1000XXJID
I tried to do an upgrade using Odin but it failed. I guess I must be missing something.
Can someone point me to a step by step guide for dummies on how to upgrade the ROM?
Thanks in advance.
You will need to download a FULL firmware like JJ4 which has everything you need, including PIT file needed. Using Odin, select the PIT, CSC, Modem and Phone in there appropriate slots, select all areas, repartition, auto reboot, reset time and go. Then for non FULL firmwares, like JK1, you can just update the one area, without repartition.
This is how I did it anyway.....
Files
Which is which?
In the folder for JJ4 I have CSC, ALL, MODEM and pit.
is MODEM == Phone
and ALL == PDA?
What is the benefit of flashing the new rom?

flash first jm6 with pit, repartition checked
then flash jma without repartition, without pit
Got it running.
Pretty nice.
Had asia firmware, switched to jm6 and then to jma.
Also changed my csc from thailand to germany.
Now i have access to 7 apps in the samsung app. (including nfs shift and asphalt 5).

Hello everyone! Im new to android as the galaxy s2 is the first android phone I have.. Since i bought it and my wife saw it, she wanted an android phone also.
We bought her a used galaxy s (gt i9000) and to my knowledge it seems to have a unofficial rom (or something like that..) flashed. It has a program called "superuser" installed and the battery bar has % visible.. And also the lock screen seems to be a default android lock screen.. Anyway to flash an original samsung firmware to it? Ive used odin to flash the newest fw to my sg2 so maybe use that?
Hope you can help..

go to samfirmware.com , select a 2.3.3 or 2.2.1 firmware.
If the package is only a .tar file , use it in PDA and dont select .PIT and untick repartition box.
If the package has three files like PDA, CSC, PHONE, use .512 PIT and tick repartition.
hope this helps. also, there are a bunch of videos on youtube.com on how to flash galaxy I9000
this thread holds all the stock roms with some instructions for installation.
[REF] Stock Firmwares for Samsung Galaxy S I9000 series - Download Only
I would do a complete factory reset by entering these characters into the phone dialler
*2767*3855#
Then I would get a 3 file download of Android 2.2.1 and recommended PIT from Samfirmware and install using Odin and Re-Partition option.
When firmware is installed and phone has booted, do another factory reset.
This way the phone has a new firmware and is completely wiped.
Hi,
i Currently have Andriod 2.3.3 on My Phone with CF-Root on with Also Installed ClockWorkMod.
I Plan on Rolling back to 2.2.1 to test something
If I Spoofed the Device using spoofw and Choosed a Different device Code and re-flashed with Kies.
Would This Work without any issues?

If you want official Froyo 2.2.1 for UK then flash XXJPY.
Flash with no pit and no re-partition after disabling any lagfix if enabled...and you will be fine.

Can anyone Shade any Light on this ?
Hey guys,
So basically, i rooted using using a guide i found here on XDA, worked great, did it with CWM.zip and SU-Busybox-Installer.zip, Went real easy for a noob like me!
The problem ive got now, i dont seem to have a proper copy of CMW recovery installed, just the stock recovery.
This wouldnt be too much of a problem, however i read the follow :
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/insta...xy-note-on-xxlpy-ice-cream-sandwich-firmware/
This is worrying, it sounds to be more difficult to install a proper CMW recovery than it is too root on this build number : IML74K.XXLPY
Overall, all im aiming for this Kernel :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749863
And this ROM :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716088
(Performance, stock rom with a little OC basically, if you know easier/better combinations, please link them!)
If any of u clever folk know where i can find me some idiot friendly information/links/guides to pull what (I think) is a mammoth task, please feel free to point me in the right way.
Thanks in advance, Sorry for what might seem like daft questions

Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
What you should do is:
- Download a GB rom from SamMobile, Preferably a directly rootable one (i suggest KKA).
- Download ODIN
- Flash the GB Rom via Odin (open the rom in the PDA section), don't worry flashing an official rom wont raise your flash counter.
- Download the InitialCFRootFlasher.zip and this CF-Root Kernel.
- Extract the files (repeat for the zImage).
- Place the zImage file from the CF-Root kernel in the zImage folder from InitialRootFlasher.
- Start "not-rooted-yet.bat" and follow the instructions.
When finished you will have a rooted GB rom.
Next you would like to flash the ICS LPY Rom.
- Download the LPY ROM.
- Download the CF-Root Kernel.
- Extract the files (repeat for the zImage)
- Place both files on your SD card.
- Install MobileOdin.
- Install the Device Specific files.
- Press 'Open File' and select the LPY Rom.
- Press 'Kernel' and select the zImage.
- Enable EverRoot, SuperSU , Inject Mobile ODIN and Wipe Dalvic cache.
- Flash firmware.
When rebooted you will have a rooted LPY rom with CWM and busybox.
Dont mix the zImages up or else your screwed.
I do not take credit for this tutorial ,this is thanks to Chainfire and his hard work so if you like it, please donate to him.

These CF-Root kernels are stock kernels modified by Chainfire. He pre-rooted the kernel and added CWM, BusyBox and SuperSU. These kernels are considered safe if you stick to the tutorial by the letter!!.

Hey guys, followed by the book, cant even get past the initial setup screen, just crashes every application it tries to start as soon as i 'press the android', so im stuck at the moment, hopefully its not beyond rescue!
EDITED: So, i did a factory reset as i was already GB, works fine, flashed ICS LPY with mobile odin, got CWM and busybox, now its time to flash the custom ROM, which option in PC odin so i select for choosing the kernel zimage?
is it bootload/pda/phone or csc. according to the guide for the rom im interested in which is in my OP, i need to flash kernel FIRST
thanks so far guys, all the information has been correct and im almost done
One more thing though, the samsung keyboard is still typing null on key entry on this ICS also, is this something i should worry about? i prefer swiftkey either way!
Im now running a custom ROM and Kernel, scary stuff, but so much more comfortable with the process now, this is due to Lodi and Baz77, Many thanks to you both!

Where are you getting your stock rom files from
if it's from dokys thread you should have 3 files once unzipped
Pda csc & modem
Place Pda in pda
modem in phone
csc in csc
do not tick any boxes like repartition
if you have only 1 file you need to split it for use with odin (see dev section for the tool)
