Hello !
I tried to upgrade i5700 Spica from 1.5 to 2.1 at an early stage, but I remember the Samsung software failed to recognize my Spica phone connected over USB port on Windows XP.
Maybe someone can point me to a topic, where the latest upgrade is explained, I will try to run the update from Windows Vista if it will work this time.
Another question is, do applications from 1.5 get rewritten when upgrading to 2.1 ?
So all changes are being lost ?
Regards,
Jan
First of all- use Odin, not KIES or NPCS.
When you flash 2.1 over 1.5 all data will be lost, although paid apps are connected with your google account and not phone.
Here is very good tutorial how to upgrade from 1.5 to 2.1

Hello,
I have a Samsung GT-I7500 working with Android 1.5.
I have problems with a poor working usb connection and blue tooth (transmitting pictures)
I am looking for an upgrade to Andoid 2.1 or 2.2
Is this possible?? On the internet there are offered GT-I7500 devices working with Android 2.2 in Holland.
After searching for a few weeks i could not find a link on Internet for upgrading my poor working Android 1.5
Thank you in advance
with kind regards

Thought about customs ROMs?
Custom Rom
Thanks for your reply
I don't know what you mean.
Please explain
Idoz
You can root your phone and put custom system software or custom ROMs. Those roms usually contain more recent versions of android. Visit your device section on xda.
Xda app
As far as I know there is no device section for the Samsung GT-I7500 on XDA.
All I could find was an update from Android 1.5 tot 1.6.
And that was not yet working 100%.
And Samsung is not planning an update for the GT-I7500.
I send them an email but they did not respond.
So I wonder why there are offered Samsung GT-I7500 devices in Holland with Android 2.2.
Could anyone give me a link to where I can find more information about this?
Thank you in advance
Kind regards from Holland

Check out this blog post.
hxxp://w w w.gadgetsdna.com/eclair-2-1-gaosp-on-samsung-galaxy-i7500-android-phone-goes-public-beta/1705/
I believe the current beta is Android 2.2 Froyo, instead of downloading the suggested mod (instruction #1 on blog) Visit the gaosp website hxxp://code.google.com/p/gaosp/downloads/list and download GAOSP-2-PUBLIC-BETA-3.zip
There are mods for the i7500 at http:// forum.samdroid.net/f11/
(remove the space)
This is probably not THE site for that particular phone, but it's a start
There is BETA 3 of Froyo 2.2.1 on i7500. It is a port of CyanogenMod 6.
Go here: code.google.com/p/gaosp and www.drakaz.com (check the first page and then go to forum)
Thanks for all the information.
I have downloaded the beta 3 file. Now I am looking for a guide to upgrade the phone. (any suggestions?)
I have upgraded several windows phones with roms from the xda forum (htc s-740, 730 ,710 etc.) but this is new for me.
I hope that I will find it.
And I also hope that the upgrade will be an improvement.
I understood that the phone will be slower (older hardware)and that there are still some bugs to be solved.
What do you recommend?
All suggestions are welcome.
Sorry for my bad english

I am from India and bought a galaxy spica in early 2010. Now I am trying to update it to froyo but Kies Mini gives me an Error saying Firmware not registered. Can anyone help me Please. Alos if I want to insert a new ROM in the phone, how can I do It?.
Help and Advice really appreciated.
spica has not official update for froyo. You have to make unofficial update for froyo..

Spica is a very peculiar device due to its hardware. There is a full developers site for it, have a look to forum[dot]samdroid[dot]net (sorry, I'm new and not allow to post external links)
Currently I'm on Gingerbread 2.3.7 (based on Cyanogenmod 7), but still has some TODO's, like finishing Camera (it works but without a custom preview) or Bluetooth audio (for car hands free, for example), but it is a very smoth version, and under continuos development. I really recommend it.
Also you will find many flavours of Froyo, with all drivers working.
Regards.
Hello ! I was wondering it is possible to make a 2.3 ROM for our phone (i8000)? I do not believe is it very difficult, basing my opinion that we have several phones with almost the same hardware as our phone, running android 2.3.
And there is already a project on samdroid about the i5700 spica, able to run even android 4.0. But the most important is that on the same project they have managed to make some 2.3 ROMS for i5700 able to operate everything on the phone. So i was wondering that since they managed to make a fully working 2.3 ROM for a phone only having 2.1 official Samsung ROM, why we can not get this 2.3 ROM, modify it and finally run android 2.3 on out phone?
I tried copy many files of a 2.3 ROM for i5700 and replace the original ones of a CM beta 2 ROM for i8000, but booting fails. i tried to make my own pack under ubuntu and ext4.tar.gz rom file seems to be ok, but phone doesn't want to boot. The problem is i know few about the android system structure, maybe i am replacing the wrong files. And yes i admit i5700 and i8000 same similar hardware but not 100% the same, plus our phone has windows mobile and boot android using haret.
So what you think of android 2.3 on i8000 ? Anyone can help ? According to over 1 million peopIe are interested about this project, so i think it worth. do not know many things about programming, but i can try help this new project on any other way.
wish it is

Hi
Today I finally got WP7.8 (7.10.8862.144) for my unbranded Samsung Omnia 7, but still did not get wifi tethering. I am in the Nordic countries (Denmark to be specific)
- I have downloaded these files http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32658310&postcount=102
Will this get me tethering?
1. I8700_Downloader.zip
2. I8700_Samsung_Mobile_USB_Driver_V5.2__V1.2.1050.0 (1).zip
3. I8700XXJK1_JK2_JK3_ALL_PROVIDERS.exe
Bonus questions:
- If I load the JK1_JK2_JK3 rom will that reset the phone back to WP 7.5> or will I still have WP7.8?
- Also is there a tool to backup current ROM in case the process goes wrong?
Any help is appreciated (sorry for the n0b question, been a while since I have flashed any phone).
Hi,
Most people that runs stock rom does not have tethering. If you're running stock rom and you have tethering, you're in luck.
For tethering Spent custom rom, such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2197846
Yes of course, if you load the rom JK1, JK2, JK3 you more aurrez 7.8 but not 7.5. Rom the date as at least aproximately November 2010, it has the OS version very below (be it the Nodo I think).
Backup Tools :
[TOOL] WP7 Easy Backup Tool (BETA)
[PC] WPBackup v1.0 - save your data and migrate to another ROM
I never tested these tools, and even less with a stock rom. I do not know if it works with the stock rom.

Hi - thanks for replying. I am not sure I get your last part (I do not speak french) - what do you mean by "if you load the rom JK1, JK2, JK3 you more aurrez 7.8 but not 7.5" - aurrez?
Sorry,
I meant with JK1, etc ... you do not tighten nor in 7.8 nor in 7.5. You will be in Nodo I think.
OK I see - thanks for the help
