[Q] Can i write android application for install other .apk file - Android Software Development

Anyone help me please,
I want to write android application for install specify .apk file for sdcard.
Can i implement like this? Please help or advice me.
Thank you very much.

Why don't you use Titanium Backup, a simple file explorer or just browse the market for such an app?
Why do you want to write an app yourself if you have no clue about it? Can you code in Java at all, more than just outputting 'Hello world'?

Apps installed where...?

Pardon me but I have been searching and searching for this small bit of info.
But where exactly are Market apps installed to on the G1? What directory are they in. I have an official R30 phone so I am locked out of browsing my folder structure.

You can browse your locked RC30/RC8 phone with the stellar app "astro" from the marketplace, it has many features that you might come to appreciate. Using it you will see a directory with lots of numbers, those are the apps. (sorry not looking at it right now to give specific directions but it is easy to find.)

hey demon,
you think astro is better than android file manager? before android manager was the best but now is astro better? any comparisons to pit one against the other. (P.S. I've been using android file manager)

I like astro much more, the backup function in particular. Basically, astro covers all the parts I need and the interface/customizations are really well done.

Apps are installed into /data/app and their data is stored in /data/data. The name of the apk is its Java package name. So for example, the name of the telephony application is com.android.phone, so the full path to the apk would be /data/app/com.android.phone.apk and the data would be stored in /data/data/com.android.phone/
i like astro much more, it used to be called 'bender' and at that time Android File Manager, now called Linda file manager or something(i think google's coming out with an 'android file manager' so they made them change the name) was much better
theres lot of improvements in Astro Particularly the App back up functionality, used to have to us terminal emulator. also, it has a shortcut utility that lets you make a shortcut to any file and put it on the desktop.
I was trying to use Astro to find locations of caches to redirect them to the SD card since reading through lists in the terminal emulator is a pain. However, when I open the /data folder, using Astro, it shows as empty. Are the contents of this folder somehow hidden? If so, is there any way I can unhide them to Astro? I can pull of a list in the terminal emulator, so I know they are here. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

Data directories have permision for her own app, so you must launch astro with root privileges or you wouldn't see nothing. (try in the terminal without root and you will see what happen if you are not root)

Doesn't need to be in a special place on the card, but Its helps to keep all your apk's in a folder for easy finding. Once you've copied the file to your card, you can use any file manager from the market to locate and install the apk. Don't know how much you know but .apk files are to Android what .cab files are to Windows mobile and .ipa files are to Iphone OS. Cheers.
Sounds simple enough thanks guys appreciate it!

What if you want to install it to /system/app? If you simply use a file manager to open the apk file won't it install to /cache?
To install to system do I simply adb push it or adb install it?
You can grab the keyboard you want out of/system/app from your old build and then put it into the androidapps folder of your new build and then reboot. Should work, please let me know though

[Q] love the XT9 input, can someone help extract?

Really love the XT9 input on Acer a500, can someone help extract the apk? Want to use it on other android. Thanks for help.
If this iis just an APK then all you is copy it to your sd/usb card other by command line or with a third party app like root explorer. Then install it on whatever device you want.
This should have also been placed in the Questions section for this device no development/R&D is needed to do this.
Welcome to XDA.

I know you wanted to help but if you took a look at this forum, there is no Questions section yet...
As for the OP's question, make a Titanium Backup of both apps and system data and check if it appears there.
Oh my bad .....

Get .apk file of installed apps

Guys is it possible to get the .apk files of apps downloaded from google play.....
As i need such thing damn seriously....
So frnds plz rep as soon as possible....
Download "App Backup & Restore App" From Google Play And Backup All Apps To Your Sdcard And Check The Backup Folder ..All Installed Apk Files Will Be Seen..Or
Check /data/app For Apps Installed In Internal Memory And
check /mnt/asec For Apps That Are Installed In SD Card..
Easy Way To Check These Folders Is To Download "Root Explorer" From Google Play..

So did i need to root my device to have such thing?????
To Use Root Explorer You Need To Root Your Device..But Rooting Is Not Required For "App Backup & Restore" App...Hit Thanx
ok ok....
Thanks a lot lot lot dude....
try this Save Master
no root required!
You can also use apk extractor. It's in the play store. No need to root.
